This cd is unbelievable and deserves all the kudos and awards it has received. Carrie Underwood's first cd was a powerhouse seller and also garnered her critical acclaim and tons of awards. But as with any artist it is the second release that showcases their creativity and true talent.

This cd far surpasses the first, which I loved, in song selection, vocal performance and interpretation and Carrie proves herself a true unique talent with her own special gifts.

I can put this cd in my player and let it run over and over for there is no filler here for me. But there are certainly some highlights. ALL AMERICAN GIRL allows Carrie to hit some notes never heard before. Her interpretation of I TOLD YOU SO is heartfelt and very much her own. But it is the standout I KNOW YOU WON'T a weepy ballad that Carrie turns into raw emotion that will stun you. She holds notes forever and puts all her range and capabilities into it. I find this song as much a classic as Linda Ronstadt doing DESPERADO. Of course the uptempo FLAT ON THE FLOOR and LAST NAME are awesome.

I am thrilled with how openly Carrie Underwood has been accapted into the country music community for she is what the genre stands for. A true country girl with talent, charm and unique gifts with a very honest, positive message. Her career is laid out for her. She is one of the rare finds of this decade.

Carrie Underwood rules.

An even better sophomore CD! - Review written on July 09, 2008

It's rare that a sophomore album outshines the first one, especially if the first was an award winning album. But Carrie Underwood's Carnival is even better than her first CD, Some Hearts. And that's not to say Some Hearts wasn't a fantastic CD. Carrie Underwood is managing to give some youth and life to the country music scene.

Carnival Ride is full of catchy, youthful, fun, well sung songs. Some of my favorites are: Flat on the Floor, All American Girl, So Small, Get out of this Town, Crazy Dreams, Last Name, Wheel of the World and The More Boys I Meet. And while many of these songs might be hits no matter who was singing them, Ms. Underwood is so gifted with her talented and amazing voice that no one could sing them as she can. This CD is reminiscent of Trisha Yearwoods earlier CDs.

If you're a young country fan, this is a must have CD. If you're a country fan at all, it's one to add to your collection! I know she's from American Idol, but give her a try, I doubt you'll be disappointed.

An incredible lady with the voice that will take you away. The only thing better would be having her sing to you in person (I can dream, Can't I?). Awesome! Bruce

I LOVE Carries singing voice, but this isn't her best album. Found some of the songs to be a little "shouty"...for lack of a better word. I think she's trying to please everyone....younger fans may love it.

I think Carrie Underwood is the victim of the country-gone-pop scene; she puts out these pop "hits" that do little to challenge her voice or display her vocal range. Ms. Underwood has a great voice and is an amazing singer; yet, this album ("Carnival Ride") is full of songs that are average at best. She displays incredibly poor song chocies on this album and there are only 2 or 3 songs that I enjoy. Her voice is far too superior to be wasted on the subpar pop tunes she put on this album.

I like "Some Hearts" much better.

I didn't buy Carnival Ride at first because I did listen to the music clips and didn't care for the songs. But I loved her first album Some Hearts sooo much that I finally broke down and bought this one.

I don't know whether I have a defective CD but the quality of her voice on my CD is so tinny. When I go back and listen to the MP3 that Amazon offers, it is very clear, not tinny or nasalize. Anyone else have that problem?

But other than that I have now grown to like the songs but the tone is just too annoying more me.

This is stronger than adequate, but not quite "good." Carrie declined a bit on this one from her very good debut, "Some Hearts." She sings with energy, to be sure. But the songs here are either less than energetic or rather pedestrian. The writing's not impressive. The song "Don't Even Know My Last Name" is pretty raucous, however, it does catch in the head. Nothing bad here, just doesn't connect with the listener like the debut did.

I LOVE this album! It's as great as her first! Carrie Underwood is the best American Idol. I have really been enjoying her songs and I really feel that she sings the stories of the songs so well. She uses so many aspects of her voice. It's truly an awesome album!

i love this album !! i love her voice-- i dont find her screaming or over singing or whatever the naysayers are saying-i pity them if they can hear this and be turned off by it--- her voice is full and rich and the emotions in it are swell !!!! very compelling ----she has to be the biggest talent to come from that idiotic tv show-- the lush arrangements of every song couldnt be better and there isnt a dud on this great effort from someone who can really sing feel a song and put it over like a seasoned pro ! beautiful !! an incredible and glorious album and i cant stop playing it ! thanks carrie underwood and you go gurrrrrl !!! a real winner !!

Wow, I never thought that Carrie can top her debut album. But she did - with flying colors.

I do not know why some people think she's over-rated. She's very talented. She has a great voice that somehow gives me goose-bumps whenever I listen to her. She's just awesome.

My fave tracks in the album are All-American Girl, Crazy Dreams, I Told You So (A cover of the Randy Travis original) and The More Boys I Meet. This album has much more country sounds than Some Hearts.

Even if they sell this CD for twice more the amount, it would still be very much worth it. This amazing CD makes the skip button on my CD player totally useless.

Some producer got every bit of vocal abilities recorded here. Purchase now and prepare to be blown away...

This one is miles better than her first album. Maybe it's because Carrie helped write 4 of the songs on this album. Whatever it is, this is the album to buy if you want to know what this American Idol is all about. Even people who aren't country music fans will like this album.

The standout songs include 'Twisted', 'Flat on The Floor' and 'Last Name'.

I would never say that Carrie can not sing but she is way overrated. I can't believe that "American Girl" is a #1 video. It is terrible. There are many and I do mean many singers as good and better than Carrie. It must be wonderful to be a pretty blonde. And what is with all the makeup? She has absolutely no stage presence. I think she is stiff as a board. Carrie just stick to the singing. If she is so great, why isn't she on tour by herself? My point exactly.

Carnival RideI love this CD. I listen to it in the car and when I am at home. The songs really grow on you the more you listen. I know the words to almost all them now and can sing along. I loved the first two singles, So Small and All American Girl. I really like the sass to the new single Last Name. Carrie's voice is amazing. She has grown so much and her vocals on this album prove it! There is something here for everyone so I would recommend buying it. I have given it to my friends as a gift and they have all been surprised at how much they enjoy it.

Carrie is probably the worst singer I have ever heard. It seems like all you have to do these days to get a recording contract is look moderately attractive and scratch your fingers on a chalkboard and radio will still play your music too. Faith Hill is proof of that. Good Luck to them both, who knows maybe one day we will have a "classic" duet from them too. Just further proves where country music is heading these days. If you want Excellent country music...Stick to Dolly Parton...now that's talent.

Carrie Underwood's Carnival Ride is even weaker than her debut, Some Hearts. Carrie's vocals are getting out of hand, instead of singing the songs, she insists on screaming and stretching her vocal chords, is she trying to ruin her voice on purpose? So Small and All-American Girl are throw-away hits, the songwriting is pretty bad, she needs to start writing her own songs or hire a better songwriter. This album has sold millions but this is not a timeless album by any means.

I look forward to her next one and the one after that and so on. If you are a Carrie Underwood fan (or even if you are not) you will love this CD.

Even though is album is a huge disappointment it will probably sell millions. Unlike "Some Hearts" her pleasant debut, "Carnival Ride" is a little more country with much weaker material to work with. Nothing here is as catchy as "Before He Cheats" though lots of songs here try to recreate that rocky twang, most fail miserably. Her personality is what is giving her so much success, its defintely not her music.

1. Flat on the floor - its not really catchy but it does grow on you. Her vocals are bad though, she screams and over sings to the point of embarassment. C+
2.All-American Girl - This song is in no way original, but it does have a very cute likeablity to it. Its charming. A-
3. So Small - Basically Jesus Take The Wheel part 2. Wouldnt have been out of place on SOme HEarts, which sort of makes its one of the strongest songs here. Great Vocals. A
4. Just A Dream - My favorite song on the album. Its haunting and beautiful and i really hope it becomes a single. A++
5. Get Out Of This Town - A very fun and cute song. She should stick to this sort of country music. B+
6. Crazy Dreams - i dont like this song. I find it cheesy and generic. D
7. I Know You Wont - The verses are kind of one note and dull but the chorus is so pretty it more than makes up for it. Nice vocals too becuase she doesnt try to hard. B+
8. Last Name - Tries to be the new Before he cheats but it isn't. Its probably the best she could do though. C+
9. You Wont Find This - its a merocre ballad. I think the lyrics really bother me for some reason. just very cliche. C-
10.i Told You So - its very old school country. But very bland. C-
11. The More Boys i meet - an irritating attempt at cuteness without actually being cute. D
12. Twisted - probably the only decent song in the second half of this album. Its nice and catchy. B-
13. Wheel Of the World - Very generic soft rock. D

This album made me change my mind about carrie underwood. I used to be a big fan btu now i just see that she is one of the most OVER rated artist of the day. Hopefully Shania Twain is coming back soon

I was a fan of Carrie Underwood since I heard that voice singing "I cant make you love me" on American Idol...I knew then she was a star. After the release of her first album, I immediately ran to get it, and she didn't dissapoint at all. Then as Carnival Ride was released, for some odd reason, I really took my time to get it. I loved "So Small" and was interested to hear the rest. Well I finally got off my butt and purchased this album. After hearing it, I had to write something. I have never done this review thing before, but this time I just had to say something. The songs "I know you won't" and "Just A Dream" are two of the best songs I have heard in a LONG time in ANY genre of music....hands down. I was in my car and I had chills and my mouth just hung open at these songs. Overall this CD is fun, great to listen to in the car. Carrie has shown immense growth as an artist and singer. Her voice is even better than ever (if thats possible). I really liked the whole CD but "I Know You Won't" and "Just A Dream" along with others "Last Name" (this cd's "Before He Cheats") and "Wheel of the World" are worth the CD alone. If you haven't bought it yet..GET IT! Country fans and pop music fans alike will love this CD. GO CARRIE! She definitely proved with this CD that she isn't going anywhere but up.
