Challenging... in a good way. - Review written on November 06, 2007

When I first sniffed Black Orchid in a magazine sample before it was released, I was captivated by the dark roundness of the scent, and promised myself to try it once it got on the market. Thus was the beginning of my love/hate affair with Black Orchid.

I got a sample of it at the department store and LOVED it. This is truly a complex, daring, sensual and sophisticated scent that smells like none of the current musk/flower/fruit celebrity fragrances out there. It opens heady and strong, but settles into something dark and warm. Great staying power. There's something in this scent that smells like decadence on the verge of decay, but never quite gets there. This is what makes Black Orchid especially intriguing and sexual -- the hint of feralness underneath the sophistication. To me, the complexity of this scent makes it incredibly emotional. You're struggling with yourself when you smell it. Is it gorgeous? Is it disgusting? Is it gorgeous because it is disgusting? When you smell it, the memory of it WILL stay with you for a long time.

The only reason I docked off a star is because it MIGHT not work on all skins, all the time. When I first applied it to my skin several months ago, something in the perfume turned on my skin chemistry, and it dried down into a disgustingly sour stench. But today I decided to return to my vial (the same one!) to give it another go, and this time it didn't turn at all, and faded out gracefully. (Thank God! I can go back to adoring this perfume without it hating me!)

Black Orchid is a round, dark, smooth, luxurious, and sensual scent. And at the same time it's incredibly tempestuous and challenging. I really hope this scent sticks around and becomes a classic, for the very fact that it is what it is: not willing to just be another fluffy "general" smell that everybody will find "pretty." Black Orchid isn't pretty, but it is seductive and sultry and repulsive and beautiful all at the same time.

I absolutely love this perfume. I get so many compliments on it where ever I go. I used to wear Obsession as my favorite but this product far exceeds that cologne. I can't wait to try the hair perfume. I wish the price was a little more less, but overall I would pay the extra money.

It takes approximately 10 minutes for the fragance to settle and then it is just amazing. My husband loves it as well.

This fragrance is magical and beautiful and interesting - in the bottle. Once it left that bottle and landed on my skin - not so magical. No harm, no foul. Sadly, I took it back to Sephora. I don't fault the fragrance at all. I will go back to my faithful Clinique Simply. Sigh.

This fragrance takes at least 20 minutes to change on your skin. Trust me, when you first spray it you wont like it- But let it work it's magic!

Oh My Gosh I LOVE this scent! This scent will hit you with a bang and then soften up. I find it extremely arousing and provocative. I can see where it could be too heavy for some. But I like the earthy, woodsy top notes.

I've tried a lot of perfumes - who hasn't. One of my favorites is still Chanel No 5, but after a perfume sampling party, this is definitely my new favorite. I now keep a small bottle in my drawer for special occasions.I don't like floral or chemical smells or anything super strong. This, I want to bathe in. If luxury had a smell, this would be it!

We walked passed the perfume counter in an upscale department store and was asked if we'd like to try this new fragrance by Tom Ford, Black Orchid. After testing the fragance, within 10 minutes of walking around the store with this incredible sensuous scent on my wrist I headed back to the counter to buy both the lotion and perfume. Its has a very soft, warm, romatic sensuous smell with Ylang, notes of Patchouli, Incense and Vetiver Balsam and smooth Sandalwood with just a hint of vanilla. I only purchased my new perfume a few days ago and I am already shopping around to find more of the products. It is a little expensive but if you are a perfume lover as I am...you have to try this! Its wonderful!
