Denali 300-Piece Drill Accessory Set with 3 Drawer Chest - Review written on February 08, 2008

I received this set and had some bits out of place in the box but it wasn't a big deal. It has what I need for home use. I used one of the long shank wood bits and noticed the tip was bent after making one hole. I bent it back but it finally broke. Tells me the quality is lacking but for the price and convenience it will do.

Overall I am not very impressed with this kit, but its worth the money. It comes with everything stated in the listing, I just didn't realize how many duplicate screwdriver bits there were until I had to manually put all 148 of them back into their spots when it arrived (not to mention fish a few out of the hollow innards of one of the drawers). I was baffled at how many of them were identical, its really more like 40 bits + many backups, not 148. Seems like 1/3 of the pieces of this set are useless. The drill bit selection is decent, the sizes skip around a little but there are enough there to augment what I already own to make a full compliment. For the home user this set will last a while, even with moderate use since there are so many redundant parts.
Probably a good deal for the money, but... - Review written on January 25, 2008

Over the years my drill bits have gotten scattered, damaged, and lost. This kit seemed like a good way to get a comprehensive set of bits that I could keep together and find when I needed them.

My kit arrived today. Like everyone else's many of the pieces were rattling around loose in the box when it arrived. After sorting everything back into place I was missing 2 bits. Not a big deal, and the kit had duplicates of the 2 missing pieces, but still disappointing.

The kit seems long on driver bits and shorter than I would like on specialty bits. I'll probably never use up one T40 bit and don't need 3 of them. On the other hand, I'd have liked a wider selection of paddle bits (it inexplicably skips from 7/8 to 1-1/4, omitting the 1" bit). Similarly, the hole saws jump from 1-3/4 to 2-1/8, skipping the 2" size.

My original intention was to replace the bits in this kit with good quality bits over time as I wore them out. Rather than 5 separate 1/16 bits, I'd have rather had 1 or 2 good ones.

The masonry bits look somewhat fragile and only go to 1/2 inch. In all fairness, I only got the kit today and haven't used any of the bits, but I'm not optimistic about their durability. I suspect they'll get me through a project, then I'll have to go out and replace the ones I used. As noted, that was my original intention anyway.

Fortunately there's some extra space in the top of the box. I'm going to need it for the 1 inch paddle bit, a 5/8 and maybe larger masonry bit, the more comprhensive set of hole saws (I'd like to go up to 3 inches or better), and the other items I probably won't realize I don't have until I need them.

I'll probably keep this set, but what I'd rather have is a more comprehensive set with fewer pieces (not so many duplicates) of higher quality. I'd happily pay 2 or 3 times the cost of this set for something like that if I could find it. If anyone knows of such an item please post a review and let me know. I'd swap this one out in a flash.

Spend the extra money on Dewalt or Bosch bits and blades. There is a reason the Denali and Black & Decker products are inexpensive. Better bits and blades cut faster and last much longer.

There were no surprises when I received this. Denali is not the top of the line but the price could not be beat. The quality is superior for the price, though not superior. If you're a professional, this is not for you. If you're a hobbiest like me, this is perfect. It's nice to have everything in one location so there's no digging in your shop. There could be a couple of improvements. One, loose the pink handle and front fasteners. Find another color a little more manly. Also, packing foam in the drawers would have eliminated all the time I spent putting the driver bits back in their proper location. They were everywhere.

I put this item on a wish list and received it this year for Christmas. While some reviewers said that pieces were everywhere, I didn't find that it took me more than a few minutes to put some the screw bits back in order that popped out (and that's with the people who gave it to me turning it over a few times). Those little drill bits you wouldn't want to snap in, or they'd be too hard to pop out. Where it does make sense to lodge the pieces in, Denali did that and there was no loss of contents.

Of course the biggest reason I really like this set is that I can be confident that almost everything I need in terms of drill bits is in one organized place. In fact, I wish I could get a second case like this one with different molds (i.e. security bits, full socket sets, etc.). I would like to get rid of my other little cases floating around and a case such as this would be useful for keeping them organized.

If I were to make some suggestions, it would be to have a back-stop on each tray, to prevent it from coming all the way out accidentally, and to find a better way to attach the handles to each tray. I may super glue the metal rims to prevent them from coming off.

I purchased an older version of this product. The packaging was good and it is handy to have all the drills you could possibly need in one box.

They are not professional quality, but excellent value for the average homeowner.

This is a big, beefy item: a reasonably nice chest and a very comprehensive assortment of drill accessories. Note that there are many duplicate items, especially those that you're likely to use and wear out the most.

The accessories tend to pop out of their trays in shipment, and it takes a few minutes to put them all back into place. A few of them mysteriously migrate INTO the trays themselves, and require some judicious shaking to get them out, but it's not a big deal.

Item arrrived as everyone elses, with the parts scattered all around. The plastic case does not hold the bits enough to turn it upside down, but I don't know why anoyone who would do it. The bits are descent, and what you would expect for under $40. This was a replacement for the GMC drill bit set that was stolen, which had a much slimmer case, and better designed case. All in all, I am happy with it.
Poor packaging for shipment - Review written on November 05, 2007

The selection of items is great and they seem to be of good quality. However, it was shipped with absolutely no packing materials. When it arrived, it took about 30 minutes to sort out all the bits that had come loose and put them in their proper place. The two bits that became lodged in the hollow base were quite a challenge to get out.

Mine was also not packed with a lot of protection but it arrived with no damage. 4 or 5 of the screw driving bits did come loose, not to big of a deal for me. The case is very sturdy and the 3 drawers slide in and out with no problems. Set includes almost everything a homeowner would ever need with the exception of a power tool. I am impressed with the overall quality of the contents, a perfect addition to my garage.

There was no protective styrofoam around the case. It was just put in a box. Case is dented and cracked. Denali should have taped cardboard over the top of each drawer to prevent the bits from falling out. A lot of the bits were either stuck INSIDE the drawers or loose inside the case!! I haven't used the tools yet.
