I have never had a portable speaker before so i dont know how it compares with other small speakers. But i have a 5.1 and a 7.1 system at home and this one is not bad compared to them!!!..the bass it gives out is pretty impressive for its size. I think this is a buy great for its size. Also the battery life looks good to. At full volume you wont believe that this speaker is this small but it doesnt sound good at very high volumes but it can be loud!. I got this as a gift so cannot comment on price. But i a like !
Excellent sound, but no AC adapter - Review written on March 26, 2008

For the small footprint of this system, it produce exceptionally good sound, beats most systems like that and a lot of bigger boomboxes as well. Only problem is lack of an AC adapter. Saitek charges 17 bucks (including s/h) to send me an AC adapter.
Great sound from a portable speaker - Review written on March 06, 2008

I like the sound and the portable size. They do sound a little tinney in a small room but actually sound better in a large room. I would buy these agan. I like how the design is not your standard square speaker. I run rechargable batteries and plan on buying a AC adapter.
Better than I expected - Review written on February 22, 2008

While I would not classify the sound out of this speaker as world-class, I am surprised that it can produce so much from so little.

Pros-

- Better low response than expected.
- Highs are relatively crisp and not metallic
- The unit is turned on/off by inserting a jack into the speaker.
- Nice carry pouch

Cons-

- Retail price may be a little higher than expected.
- While it aids in helping to produce big sounds (through larger magnets) the unit is a litte heavy when it comes to travelling.

Overall, two thumbs up - I have not hesitation in recommending!

powerful little speaker - Review written on February 17, 2008

What a great little speaker. Pretty good sound for a battery operated speaker. I bought this for my young daughter, I prefer she not listen to headphones at such a young age. I don't want her to have hearing damage.
The sound quality is better than what a laptop can produce but, it's not meant to replace your desktop speakers.
We picked it up for $15.00 on special. I wouldn't pay more than $20 though.
Unbelievable for the size. - Review written on February 16, 2008

I admit I was skeptical about this product, because I have never had a small set of speakers that worked well or lasted very long. I gave this one a try, because the price seemed to correlate with the quality. I received it, and I was blown away with the fullness of the sound. It did not have a hollow sound at all. I cannot wait to use this while I am on a bike ride.
COMPARE BEFORE YOU BUY - Review written on February 12, 2008

I purchased this for office use. The sound is adequate given the size of the unit, but distorts very rapidly if you raise the volume much at all. Plus, it uses 4 AAA batteries and does NOT ship with an AC adaptor. It is rated at 12 hours on battery power so I figured over the life of the product, I would be buying a lot of batteries or would have to go rechargeable. I ended up buying the AC adaptor for it from Saitek for $16 including shipping. Days after I received the speaker, I heard a friend's Logitech mm50 Portable Speaker System, which is also available from Amazon for around $100. The Logitech's sound simply shames the Saitek because it has four speakers with tremendous bass response and when you crank it up is much more like a mini-boombox than a portable speaker set. I was very impressed. It is made for Ipods (which dock quite nicely) but will accept input from any MP3 player. Had I heard the logitech first, I would have purchased it instead especially since it has built in rechargeable batteries. But, since it's sound abilities greatly surpass what I can use at work anyway I will keep the Saitek, but if you can benefit from a very small MP3 boombox with great sound, I would recommend spending the extra money and getting the Logitech. When you factor in the cost of an AC adaptor or rechargeable batteries or the cost of batteries period, it is likely more cost effective to get the logitech. Don't get me wrong, the sound of the Saitek is pretty nice and there is a decent bass response given it's size, but for the extra $50 dollars you get probably three times the speaker than what you get with the Saitek.
Great device - but watch out for the battery costs - Review written on February 08, 2008

The Saitek A-100 gives fantastic sound from a small and stylish package, but unless you have rechargable batteries or an AC adapter, feeding this thing's voracious appetite for power will cost you a bundle.
I average about 3.5 hours of play on 4 AAA batteries, not the 12 the write-up states. I am sure that has a lot to do with volume, but 12 hours at a whisper is not realistic. I play my music pretty loud - a medium volume might give longer play time.
I've tried (though not super hard) to find an adapter, but have been content using my rechargables for now. Best idea would have to have bundled these speakers with an adapter and saved the purchaser the trouble of seeking one out separately.
Almost Perfect - Review written on February 07, 2008

Rating: 4 out of 5

This is one dynamite little speaker. It's hard to believe you can get stereo sound from such a small device, but this really delivers. It is completely portable and uses 4 AAA batteries or can be plugged in using the *NOT included* AC adapter. If the adapter were included, this would be the perfect purchase. I had to buy the adapter from the Saitek company at a cost of $12 - about as much as I paid for the speaker. If you are looking for a portable speaker for your MP3 or other small electonic device, this is a great choice.

I was absolutely amazed when I plugged this into my MP3 Player. The sound was amazing! Unlike other portable speakers, these speakers do not produce that high-pitched tinny sound that is characteristic of speakers of this size. Furthermore, the sound was loud and clear, outperforming my laptop and competing with my boombox. Even better, there's bass! Yes, folks, you heard correctly, there is bass in this unit! Obviously, it's not comparable to a regular subwoofer, but when you consider how small this is, bass levels are definitely much greater than expected, and enough to comfortably hear the bass in your music.

<>
This unit is nice and light, but not so light that it feels like a piece of junk. I's say it weighs about the weight of an apple and a half. It's about the length of a dollar, about 2 or 3 inches wide and an inch or so tall, so definitely VERY portable. I usually stick it in my backpack so I always have it on me. The suede pouch it comes with keeps it in great condition.

<>
The speakers are great for watching movies on laptops, listening to music with friends, or just that random moment where you need speakers and don't feel like plugging and unplugging your regular unit.

<< BATTERIES >>
Runs on 4 AAAs, which sucks, but I actually can't complain. One night, my friends and I watched a 2-hr movie and listened to about 2.5 hours of music before the batteries started to die. However, you can buy a power adapter to eliminate this problem, though that does decrease portability somewhat.

<>
- There is no volume control on the actual unity
- There is no on/off switch...it appears to just turn on when you plug the in and turn off when you plug it out.
- It has a cute little kickstand, which is handy.

Surprisingly good sound in a small, portable package. If you expect Bose Sounddock sound you will be disappointed but for an extremely portable device it sounds great. The price is an excellent deal.

Very good speakers for the price; they have good base and are a bargain. You can spend a lot more money and get better speakers, but for my mp3 player I find these are all I need.

I bought this on a Friday special for $20. What a great sound, bigger than I expected coming from something that sits in the palm of my hand. Not only is the sound very adequate, but I just love carrying my stereo from room to room as I do housework or projects that take me from one end of the house to the other.
It's also the pefect size and great sound for our 22' RV.

I love this little speaker. Compared to the little one my son bought at Radio Shack, it has unbelievable sound quality. However, I paid only $17 on a Gold Box deal, so I am taking that into consideration. I would never pay retail, altho' some of you might think it is worth it to get this kind of bass. It is completely portable which makes my ipod so much more useable both in the car & at home. The only thing I am unhappy with is that no A/C adaptor is included. However, my husband said A/C adaptors are easy to get, so once I have that, you won't hear one more complaint from me.

Great sound and unexpectedly great bass from such a small speaker...

When they say pocket-sized they mean it... It would fill most of your pocket honestly, but it's VERY portable...

Only disappointing thing is the lack of the AC power adapter, which I haven't been able to find anywhere... *sigh*

Tiny, cheap, no volume control...

3 things which would normally preface a bad review, but not in this case. I was contemplating buying this speaker as I've needed somewhat portable speakers for my iPod for some time now. I was pricing more expensive ones, then my wife went ahead & bought this. I was worried at first, until I recieved it, and found its absolutely amazing.

I've paid more for speakers in the past that sounded worse. I actually can't say anything bad about this product. If you're looking for low cost very portable speakers that sound reasonably well, you couldn't do any better than the My Spkr A-100...
Works with Tiny iPod Shuffle! - Review written on November 03, 2007

My stereo speaker just arrived today. I wasn't sure it would work with my tiny iPod clip - on Shuffle, but it works perfectly. The sound is impressive; I agree with the positive reviews previously descibed in detail by other reviewers. I haven't explored using the new speaker with my Chocolate phone, but am already convinced that this is a great bargain!

The symmetrical design may resemble a bicycle seat or miniature UFO, but this little overachiever puts out a remarkably full (and full frequencied) sound. I'll admit that I'm not a sub-woofer addict, but I can hear ample acoustic bass lines along with crisp hi-hat and ride cymbals coming from the Saitek A-100 even when it's at the other end of the bedroom. Moreover, the sound of tenor saxophone is alive and present.

Not a fair comparison, but I played it side-by-side, A-B, with the two-hundred dollar, acclaimed and popular Tivoli iPal radio. The Saitek is 1/3 the size and weight of the mini-sized iPal but offers 3/4 of the audio quality. Moreover, I don't hear it distort at the loudest levels to the degree the iPal does. Admittedly, the bass isn't as full, and the sound is just a bit "canned" compared to the iPal--hardly worth mentioning for a product costing one-tenth as much as the vaunted Tivoli product.

The advantages:

1. I can easily see taking this on my walks, an iPod in my shirt pocket, the Saitek in my coat, front or back pants pocket (you'd look pretty silly carrying an iPal cube around the neighborhood).
2. This costs no more than the pillow speaker I ordered from Sharper Image but can barely hear through a heavily insulated pillow. The Saitek, on the other hand, has enough muscle to blow its way through any pillow (though size-wise it's admittedly a bit too thick not to be felt by the sleeper).
3. Thoughtful, resourceful design of the on/off-standby modes and useful lights.

Disadvantages:

1. No volume or tone controls (though they're really not needed).
2. Stereo separation. (Is there any? Does it matter?)
3. The only important issue: 4 AAA batteries are quite a few. (Why couldn't it have been 2 AA's or, like some recent Sony players, a single AA?) At least give Saitek credit for including a 6 Volt DC port to run it off electrical current.

The packaging, paperwork, details, and quality control are all first rate. Included are two cables to insure one fits your player, a fold-out stand, an insertable holder for attaching a Nano iPod, and a soft and sturdy cloth carrying bag. Even the packaging is commendable--not the laminated plastic of similar but more expensive products. Instructions, though unnecessary, are ample and clear. It seems odd for the manufacturer to refer to the device in the plural (Saitek "speakers"), but indeed there are two of them in that fist-sized enclosure. In short, it both performs and looks like a quality product, belying its current low price. Take two (they're small)--the other one will make a nice little gift, no apologies needed.

I bought this on a long shot when it hit a price under 20 and am absolutely thrilled. I wanted something I could hook into my ipod and set beside me when eating outside or on a picnic or anywhere I wanted quality sound but where volume was not important but size was.
For this little speaker, it's small enough to put in your back pocket. I'd say they've got the size issue covered. Not only that but the sound quality is amazing for the size of this. Nobody expects powerful sound from something powered by batteries. This doesn't have powerful sound. However - the sound that it does have, sounds excellent. I've never heard anything this small actually reproduce sound anywhere close to what I'd call high fidelity or even medium fidelity. Other little ipod speakers sound like a tin can and wire telephone compared to this.
I'll spare the extensive description, which was very well done in the prior review. I'll just say, if you want a really decent, really small speaker that you could use to: take with your ipod/mp3 player while staying in a hotel, play on low volume in your tent while camping, sitting at a corner cafe (not if other diners are in earshot of course), on the counter while taking a hot soak in the tub, on the table while you grill some chicken, or on the desk on saturday in the office, then this is the one to get.
There's an A-200 version of this that runs for about 50 bucks right now, but I'd say at $17 this one wins the "most bang for your buck" hands down.

Big Sound from a Small Package - Review written on October 26, 2007

The Saitek My Spkr A-100 is roughly the size of a paperback novel and presents a nice curvy compact design. The speaker has a bit of heft to it -- its not just a flimsy empty plastic shell like many cheap portable speakers. The A-100 takes 4 AAA batteries, has a jack for stereo audio in, optional DC power and a light indicating ON or STANDBY modes. There's no power switch or volume control. The power is turned on by inserting an audio cable into the speaker. Volume in meant to be controlled by the audio source or player. The speaker contains two tiny drivers concealed behind a sturdy metal grill and a small bass port which appears to be baffled internally with an aluminum duct.

I've heard plenty of tiny portable speakers and the vast majority of them share one thing in common -- tinny shrill sound with absolutely no lows. The cheaper versions tend to rattle and distort at moderate volume levels. Not only do tiny speakers generaly lack any bass but they're usually so close together that there's not really much of a stereo effect. Not so with the A-100. I was quite surprised when I plugged the A-100 into my Zune -- not only there was bass (no, not 12 inch woofer level bass but bass nontheless) but there was also obvious stereo with the drivers sitting only inches apart. Impressive! Through the magic of Digital Signal Processing, these tiny speakers actually sound better than many small computer speakers and boomboxes. The A-100 won't rattle your windows and probably won't annoy your neighbors but it'll give you quite decent sound at moderate volume levels for a small room with little distortion.

I'm glad to see the price of these has fallen to more reasonable levels. At $20, these are a steal.
