Good ST but... - Review written on September 26, 2007

As others mentioned the leaving out of the Stones could quirk some...but who does not already have it...and my take is it was a royalty/label issue.. generally the songs do fit well with the film..so good. But the repeatedly replaying of the dork band the Dropkick Murphey's REALY got on my nerves. Now dont get me wrong, I come from the late 70's punk scene and attend shows often and do play in some well known bands. Okay enough said about me..but dang that Dropkick song needed to be well - dropped and kicked...it was WAY too overbearing and sorry (even being a UK'r myself) I can't stand most "Celtic-punk"..call it what ya will but I call it ANNOYING. Give me Rudimentary Peni, The Undertones etc anyday over this..The Dropkickers can, well drop dead...ok rag is off.. The film rocked, and the majority of the S/T is good.

This CD has all the popular tunes from the movie, The Departed. The music is played in it's full recording not mixed or just half of a song. I was very impressed with the quality of the sound.

As soon as this film had finished I ordered the sound track and was telling all my friends about it. It has great music and it's my traveling music in the car. I just lent it to my daughter. I would recommend this sound track, it has a great variety of music on it.
Great music. Bad soundtrack for the film - Review written on August 18, 2007

The music on this CD is great. The "yawn" music in the film is boring and has been done over and over in other films. Oh listen a Rolling Stones song in a Scorsese film! Oh boy! The live version of Comfortably numb during a love scene is sooo awful. Only expecation would be Drop Kick Murpheys song in the film. All the rest are just a bunch of classic rock thrown on top of Scorsese's films.
Wonderfully captures the feel of the film - Review written on July 19, 2007

The Departed finally won Martin Scorsese the long overdue Oscar he has so very much deserved over the years. Like Goodfellas and Casino before it, The Departed utilized a soundtrack of previously available songs to set the mood and capture the feel of the film, and this soundtrack succeeds on just about all counts. The blistering live rendition of Pink Floyd's "Comfortably Numb" by Roger Waters, Van Morrison, and The Band starts the disc off, and is followed by classic tracks from the Beach Boys, the Rolling Stones, the Allman Brothers Band, and Patsy Cline. Sandwiched in between these older acts and the two score tracks contributed from composer Howard Shore, is the instantly catchy "I'm Shipping Up to Boston" from punk favorites the Dropkick Murphys, which you'll no doubt remember nodding your head to when watching the film. There may not be anything featured here that you haven't heard before or seen somewhere else, but the soundtrack for The Departed is a blast regardless and wonderfully captures the feel of the film. In those regards alone, the soundtrack, much like the film itself, is a pleasently wonderful treat.

The soundtrack for the movie was so wonderful I knew I wanted it for my collection. Although the CD does not contain all the songs in the film, there are enough to make this one of a kind collection worth having.

I loved the variety of music on the "Departed" soundtrack. From Roy Buchnanan to Patsy Cline's version of "Sweet Dreams", Pink Floyd, The Allman Brothers, and The Stones! As a musician, I can confidently state that this soundtrack is about good music.

"The Beach Boys' obscure 1972 song "Sail On, Sailor"...EXCUSE me??? - Review written on May 15, 2007

Note to Amazon Editorial Reviewer Elisabeth Vincentelli: "Sail On Sailor" is a lot of things, and "obscure" isn't one of them. It's widely regarded as the final burst of brilliance (within the Beach Boys framework) from Brian Wilson, the final "classic" song from the lineup including Carl and Dennis Wilson, Brian as a composer, Al Jardine and Mike Love. It was sung by Blondie Chaplin, who...along with Ricky Fataar...was with the band for three albums (Carl & The Passions So Tough, Holland, In Concert). Explain to me how a Beach Boys song that is not sung by Brian constitutes a "slight twist?"

Lots of low profile classics and a few big names as well. There's a leaning to some great and unique guitar work in much of it. Its the track to the movie so there's no comment about some of the selections but you wont be disappointed.

One of my favorite soundtracks recently - Review written on March 18, 2007

While watching the originally preview, I dug the Irish Dropkick Murphy's tune, and loved the version of Comfortably Numb. I was excited when I saw that the soundtrack contained these newer versions of the songs, which in my opinion were better than the original (although Roger Waters original Comfortably Numb is the best). The other songs are good, too, including the last track by Howard Shore.

This is the SCORE from the film, by Howard Shore. There is a SECOND album containing the SONGS from the film, and two cuts of the score. That album has the Stones, Beach Boys, Dropkick Murphys, Roger Waters, and several other bands.
Both albums are superb. However, we're hear to talk about the score.
It is a terrific score, unlike any previous work from Howard Shore. Wonderful tango, heartfelt music....one of the better scores from 06'. Just listen to the first track sample. If you don't like it, don't buy it.

Loved it. The songs are crisp and clear, and fun. Played it for people who had not seen the movie, and they loved it. Very, very pleased. Love the Irish music, so typical of Boston.

Missing some very important music. 1st, The Rolling Stones' Gimme Shelter. 2nd, John Lennon. Especially since Jack Nicholson directly quotes John Lennon in the film.

I was a bit disappointed with this soundtrack. The movie is much better than the music. However, it does have a few good songs by some classic artists so the purchase is worth considering.

The strongest song of the whole film, without a doubt, is the Rolling Stones' "Gimme Shelter". Of course, the soundtrack doesn't include it.
