Dyson DC25 Ball All-Floors Upright Vacuum Cleaner

This vacuum cleaner worked great - twice. Really did a nice job cleaning the floor until what ever mechanism drives the carpet brush stopped working. I called customer service and they got me set up with a local repair service which turned the repair around in 3 days. But now I'm wondering what will break next and how long this fix will last. I suggest buying the extended warranty.

This was awesome right out of the box! We have had it a month and it works very well on both carpets and wood floors with ease. Love the long wand for stairs and easy empty dust container. Great price too!

So far this has been a terrific purchase. Our other vacuum cleaner died, and we needed a new one. We had always heard good things about Dyson. They are true, the vacuum cleaner picks up much more than our older one used to. This is important as we have a house full of allergy sufferers.
Some of the plastic construction makes me a little concerned that it will last many years. This is somewhat negated due to the fact that the parts appear as though they could be easily replaced.
There are a couple long hairs (women) in the house (no dogs). The rollers do (as many I'm sure do) rap long hair around them, but they are easy to clean.
I would recommend the Dyson DC15 to anyone thinking about buying it.

Suction is good - Review written on October 03, 2008

Suction is good. Some minor defects and inconveniences found. Rear wheels are weak and broke down; switch broke too. Handyman skills a most when own this vacuum.
Absence of bags a plus. Ball is good if you're figure skating, otherwise not much difference.
Again: suction is good.

I have owned a Kirby for 30 years but have heard and read so many positive things about the Dyson that I decided to give it a try. It does have great suction and the dirt canister is very easy to empty. The accessories are self contained and easy to switch to. The vacuum is a bit heavy to maneuver, but I think it does a great job of cleaning. I can tell by looking at the nap of my carpet that it is really pulling up the dirt. I would recommend it.

You really don't know how dirty your house might be until you've used this vacuum. And just for sh@ts and giggles, I used my old vaccum on my living room carpet before I used the Dyson. Can I tell you that the Dyson picked up more stuff off the carpet using it second, to the old vacuum going first. The only downfall to this vacuum is it's a little heavy. But the hose that comes with it is plenty long enough to reach your entire stair case. And the turning is really just flick of the rist. If I can use this vacuum with just having had back surgury, and still have carpal tunnel I'm contending with, believe me, it's worth the money.

This vacuum cleaner is really quite amazing. Mine arrived in brand new condtion although the hard floor attachment had a little dust on the brushes like it had been used before. Still everything else looked brand new.

It snapped together into shape very fast and this machine was fairly easy to quickly understand how to use with the exception of one thing for me. Every time I put my foot on the white foot pedal initially I could not get the vacuum to unlock from it's base so I could tilt it lower to start vacuuming. I would press and press with my feet and often times could not get it to release. I sometimes felt is was pushing way too hard with my foot to release the base from the wheel base, then I realized I didn't need to press hard at all on the foot pedal, but just needed to look about 4 inches above the white foot pedal when trying to release which is actually a silver bracket like portion of machine which extends upwards from wheels on back of vacuum. All you have to do while pressing on white pedal with foot is look upwards from pedal at silver bracket popping out enough to lean machine back to vacuum.

I also love the fact that this has a detachable handle to vacumm by hand with various attachments for stairs and other tight spots. I do find the hose can feel a little stiff at times when moving it different directions, but overall I think this is just a great machine with great suction. I have a cat and this has made my life much easier and I was previously using an upright Eureka which was about 20 years old and this just totally blows that one away.

The cosmetics of the machine remind me of something futuristic kind of like a martian kind of design as another reviewer mentioned I believe.

Dyson Sucks... it's a good thing! - Review written on September 24, 2008

Very Happy with our buy. We can tell it has a powerful suction because the carpet lifts up when we use the hand tool on the stairs. The good thing is that it will stay that way since it's a Dyson. Oh, but don't tell anyone we only spent $269 on the unit. My wife says the ball feature really makes it easy to turn the unit while vacuuming. I like the built-in reach tool. Before, I had to attach a longer hose to vacuum the stairs. Finally, when we vacuumed the bare wood floor we noticed it sucked things right up rather than shoot things half way across the floor. Hence our conclusion is that Dyson Sucks... in a good way! In such tough times it's good to know we can get a very good product at an amazing price. Thanks Amazon!

The vacuum arrived definitely looking used. There were many scuff marks on the bottom and the sticker on the handle was worn down until it wasn't readable.

I was impressed with the suction of the vacuum and the carpets looked great when I finished vacuuming, but I received many little shocks while vacuuming. The vacuum was also a little difficult to maneuver and put a lot of strain on my wrist to move it around.

Design matters. This is not the best vacuum on the market - but it is the best designed. It's a game-changer. But you don't buy this vacuum if design does not matter to you. You go to Sears. And you're probably perfectly happy with your purchase. Some have compared Dyson to Apple but I think Apple's products are far more solid and polished. Admittedly, this one feels a bit like a prototype. The reconditioned DC-15 that I received has a "loose" feel to the ball mechanism. Some of the moving parts /seem/ like they might break easily. When it's running, it's quieter than the 10-year old Hoover it's replacing... but there's a high-pitched tone. It's annoying (and for this reason alone I intend to contact Dyson: Is it supposed to make this noise?). Still, this is a remarkable machine and no regrets here. This is the way I like to vote with my dollars.

Thought I would take a chance on this factory-reconditioned Dyson DC15 because I didn't want to spend $500.00 on a new one. Man am I happy that I did! When it arrived it was in brand new condition! Not a mark on it. Works like new and at nearly %50 of the cost of a new one.. A++ to Amazon for offering this deal. Highly recommend! My in laws have the same vacuum, and they paid over $500.00 at Target for it, this one works just as well as theirs does. I did purchase the 3yr extended warranty offered with it though. Figured that for $30.00 might be worth it.

Came in GREAT condition. Very easy to use. Lots of great features. Stores VERY easily. If you have arthritus in your arms or wrists - this is not the vacuum for you. Take effort to turn around corners. Works great on Carpeted surfaces as well as Hard floors. My daughter and son love to use it - they are 9.

I had a baby 3 month ago, so I decided to get a better vacuum because my Hoover did such a poor job. I also have cats, and I had to go over the same spot several times because it did not pick the hair up. It was frustrating and time consuming. So today I got my new Dyson and - what a huge difference!!! The vacuum handled cat hair with total ease. Cat litter - not a problem!!! WOW!!! I just could not stop vacuuming :-))) It never lost suction like old Hoover did. And what a powerful suction it is!!! Also they made emptying the clean bin sooooo much easier (what a great design!); it was a very pleasant surprise. I am completely happy :-)))

Well, I've had my Dyson for a few years. Still love it. It's the best!
My daughter started a house-cleaning business and I told her this is the vacuum she had to have! The roller-ball is new to me. When it arrived, we put it together and used it right away. What a fantastic vacuum!!!
Will always highly recommend this vacuum.
* I forgot to add this: when she used it the first time on one of her jobs, they wanted her to use their Kirby. She did. Dumped out a bunch of dirt and dog hair. Then she used her Dyson. HAHAHA! She pulled up 3/4 full of more dirt and dog hair! What a testimony!

I am very pleased with my purchase of the Dyson DC15 with the ball. If you are the type of person who loves when vacuums leave their mark as you sweep than this one is for you. The suction is terrific. The ball feature really does make this a easy to maneuver around items. But one of the best features is the ease with which you can empty the bag less chamber. I always hated emptying the bags in vacuums, with this vacuum my hands never get near the mess. I will forever be a Dyson customer. A good investment.

Well I have had this vacuum for a month and it seems to work great. The ball makes this a very maneuverable machine. The warranty is a bit short at 6-months since this is "factory-reconditioned", I would have expected at least 2yrs vs. a brand new one having 5yrs. It is a bit heavy for some people to lug up and down stairs. I really like that this is bagless and you can see when you need to empty it. I would recommend this product to anyone looking to upgrade the old vacuum.

I had this unit for a few months now. I am very happy with my reconditioned DC15.
Pros:
Cleans very well, Gets into corners and under furniture traditional vacs cant reach. Easy to maneuver.
Quiet- not half as loud as my old inexpensive Eureka.
Direct drive brush. No belts to wear and then replace.
Easy to clean canister.
Attachments are easy to use and store right on the main unit.

Cons:
Probably heavy to lift for women but not for men.

Best Vacuum - Review written on August 25, 2008

I loved this vacuum cleaner. It's the best vacuum I ever own. I was about to rip up the carpet in my house and replace it with wood floor but I changed my mind after I vacuumed the carpet with the DC15. My niece borrowed it to vacuum her apartment and almost didn't give it back. Now she put it on her Christmas wish-list. It just picks up everything. I have parrots in the house and the Dyson just sucks up all the feathers and seedlings they dropped on the carpet. It's the best product ever.

Before I begin my review let me tell you something about myself... I do not write reviews often. Not because I rarely purchase anything, but because I rarely find a product that is either so bad or so incredible that I feel it deserves my time. That being said, the Dyson DC15 is the best product I've purchased this year. It is absolutely amazing! I have had allergies and asthma since I was 8, so I need a clean living environment to be able to live comfortably. I've been borrowing friends' vacuums all year in an attempt to find one that could clean our floors to a level that kept my asthma and allergies at bay. Nothing... I mean NOTHING worked. So I started researching vacuums online. I read reviews and recommendations for every vacuum, from every manufacturer in the world. After one month of debating I decided to go with the factory-reconditioned DC15 here on Amazon. I ordered the vacuum on Tuesday of this week and it got here on Friday (today). I took it out of the box, snapped it together really quickly, and took it for a test run. After one quick run over the carpet in my bedroom I was astounded (and disgusted). This thing picked up so much junk that I couldn't believe it. I was on a rampage. I vacuumed the entire house and was amazed. This vacuum is the best! I know there is a lot of hype due to the Dyson name and the "never loses suction" claims. Well this thing deserves all the hype it gets. I could not ask for a better product. The attachments and hose are easy to use and extremely effective. The dirt bin couldn't be easier to empty. This product is awesome. I highly recommend this to anyone and everyone.

originally we thought this was a good deal, the first Dyson we got lasted 2 days when the wheel at the back fell off and got sent back, the second (replacement) lasted a week when the little motor that drives the brush head shorted out and failed - its on its way back now and we wait for a refund.

it might be a good vacuum - who knows?

A poor deal indeed.

I would give The Ball 5 stars except it is a heavy machine and not for the weak. It is an incredible cleaning machine. I have had an electrolux, bought new, for the past 10 years, I vacuumed my house with the electrolux prior to purchasing the Dyson. My first sweep with the dyson I didn't even get through 2 rooms before I had to empty the dirt container. I feel like I can breath better, too. So all around I am very pleased and would highly recommend the Dyson Ball.

I did my research because I wanted a good vacuum for a reasonable price. I have used a Kirby for the passed two years and I liked it but not very impressed. After giving it a try for the first time I was convinced. All the other reviews are right. Hands down, this vacuum rocks. After I used it the first time my son came strolling in from down the hall asking when I am going to vacuum. I told him that I just did! It is so quiet compared to other vacuums and it is extremely sucky. It made my carpets look clean as new. My favorite part is that after vacuuming the air smelled clean and fresh. I could tell that the HEPA filter works and makes a huge difference. Usually I have allergies for the next day after I vacuum but not now:)

I read all the reviews and did a great deal of research. I received the vacuum once deciding to purchase and I couldn't be happier. I am in love with my vacuum. My husband in Iraq does not seem to understand quite yet, but when he gets back I am sure he will fall in love as well. My little brother came over (he's 18). He loves to clean. He saw the vacuum in the guest bedroom and came out to the living room freaking out. He was so excited for a Dyson (obviousy weird that he knows so much about them). He had to use it and fell in love as well. I get so much up every vacuum session! I love the way it moves and cleans. The instructions are easy to read. One of the attachments I received does not fit the hose, I have been planning to call and see if anything can be done, but I am so in love I keep forgetting! GET IT! People waste so much money on so many things and it really adds up. I don't see the price an issue with this at all! It is so worth the cost! I am very happy with my purchase. Don't sit on the fence! Jump off and buy it! ; )
Is it better than my Fantom Thunder? - Review written on August 13, 2008

1 customer found this review helpful.

I have a Fantom Thunder vacuum, which I dearly love. Unfortunately, the company went out of business and I'm unable to find a new beater brush for it. So, I decided to buy the Dyson. I like the maneuverability better than the Fantom, the ball does make it easier to use. The design of the wand on the Dyson is a bit awkward while the Fantom is much easier. However, the more I use it, it does get better. I had some trouble getting the wheels to pop up, but again, the more I use it the easier it gets. The Dyson is much quieter than the Fantom and I like the extra long cord. The attachments are well placed and emptying the canister is very quick and easy. It wins points over the Fantom there.

As far as suction, the Fantom was the best sweeper I've ever had, until I used the Dyson. It has tremendous power and my rugs look like they have been cleaned. The nap stands up and they once again look new. The edge cleaning is amazing. I have a dog, but you wouldn't know it, as the Dyson gets all the dog hair.

I would suggest that anyone thinking of buying the Ball, try it first. It does take some getting used to and is a little heavy. If you feel comfortable with it, you won't regret your purchase. So, is it better than my Fantom, yes, and it looks good too!

I am a 60 year old grandmother and I sure don't have any problem using this vaccume. I was worried because of other reviews but I had no problem with it at all. I have been using a Rainbow vaccume since 1970 and also a Kirby since 1984. The Rainbow will stay in the closet since nothing can beat it for Grandkid spills but the Ball is much easier to move around, no mess with bags, and no water to empty. I really like it.

I love Dyson Vacuums- this is my second one I bought it for a second home. I like the regular style better- the ball is a nice idea but I found it heavier than the norm. I guess it just takes some getting use too. It would be nice if the cord retracted. Over all a great vacuum. great for pet hair and easy to empty.

After pulling the dyson out of the box, we heard a scraping on the wood floor - one of the springs was off from a lower elbow piece and the hanging spring was scratching the floor.

Vacuum DOES WORK VERY WELL, though. Easy to put together and the attachments are quite useful and simple. Easily attached to the vacuum itself.

Mind you...the foot pedal DOES take some getting used to as it takes a good solid "push" to release the yellow (release) pedal when you get ready to use it...

Dyson's Warranty call center was pretty helpful and they scheduled an appt with a local service/warranty location even though it was 20 miles away (and we live in Tacoma, which is not exactly the sticks - I was surprised there werent more vacuum service locales by which to get these serviced? - It just makes more sense to get it serviced than having to ship a whole unit back in its excessive packaging, etc.

You can feel safe purchasing a reconditioned Dyson dc15. Let's put it this way. I have 2 cats. There is (was) cat hair ground throughout the carpet. (old raggedy carpet at that!) The Dyson picked up ALL the hair, dirt and grime-you can actually see pounds of dirt accumulating in the canister. I did get a minor shock with my sweaty hands but my husband did NOT-so maybe its me. ALSO, it is NOT as loud as most say. In fact it was quieter than the Eureka bagged vacuum that we just threw in the garbage- it constanty spit OUT dust. I put it outside by the garbage cans and hope someone will steal it. Hurray for Dyson. A company that finally got it right!
