WHAT A CLASSIC. ISN'T IT TOO BAD THEY DON'T MAKE MOVIES LIKE THIS ANYMORE. YOUNG PEOPLE TODAY WILL NEVER KNOW THE TRULY GREAT ACTORS THAT WE HAD. WHEN BING CROSBY SINGS YOU CAN UNDERSTAND ALL THE WORDS--THEY ARE NOT SCREAMED INTO A MICROPHONE. THEY SHOULD MAKE MUSICALS LIKE THIS AGAIN--MAYBE A LITTLE MORE UP TO DATE BUT DELIGHTFUL LIKE THIS. THIS IS PURE ENTERTAINMENT--IT NEVER GOES OUT OF STYLE.

WHILE I HAVE YOUR ATTENTION COULD I PLEASE ASK IF YOU HAVE EVER HEARD OF "JUST YOU AND ME KID"?
IT IS WITH GEORGE BURNS AND BROOKE SHIELDS. I KNOW IT WAS MADE BECAUSE I COPIED IT OFF THE TV BUT MY COPY IS SO POOR. THANK YOU FOR LISTENING TO ME. BETTY CONKLIN

I'd promised myself that this year I would not gush over the Holiday Season and remain as removed as possible from all the sentimentality associated with this time of the year.

Sadly, I failed and once again sat back and enjoyed an hour or so watching this seasonal favorite.

I do recommend this film for sentimentalists everywhere.

We've always enjoyed the movie and still do. However, we thought the DVD was a new colored version - like they did with the original Miracle on 34th Street. It's not, so don't be mislead by the packaging and the little color they added in the intro.

The acting and music are fantastic and heart-warming. Holiday Inn has been a family tradition for us for many years and we used to try to catch it on TV. Now we will have this on-hand in a great format with a high quality presentation. We absolutely love this video!

"Holiday Inn" is a song and dance routine and I confess I'm not a big fan of musicals. Even so, when you take the brilliance of composer/lyricist Irving Berlin, mix with one of the greatest singing voice in history, Bing Crosby and add the finest dancer ever; Fred Astair, all that's missing is a heart's desire. Stunningly beautiful actress Marjorie Reynolds provides the perfect additional heart beat, completing a delightfully well woven romantic comedy that works almost flawlessly. Released in 1942, this timeless love story is a monument to creative moviemaking at its best. Bing Crosby's Academy Award winning song "White Christmas," first appeared in "Holiday Inn" some 12 years before Bing Crosby's movie, "White Christmas." Couch Potato Review? 7 Potato, More. Notes: Sadly all the incredible talents mentioned are no longer with us but live on in beautiful works of art like, "Holliday Inn." Available on DVD.

I am in my forties and I grew up learning all the songs in this movie from my parents. I also remember this movie being on TV when I was a child in the sixties. It is a happy family movie and I love the Inn itself and always wanted the architectural plans.(I loved the design so much I wanted to build it one day)!

I love Bing and Fred and Marjorie Reynolds, however Virginia Dale does not seem to be a compatible dance partner for Fred Astaire--she does not appear to be as skilled a dancer. Marjorie Reynolds does a great job of dancing howeever, and she holds her own.

Yes, it is in black and white and I would love to see a color version and have been thinking that for years, however this DVD Special Edition has much more clarity than my old VHS tapes. Fabulous Movie!

This is a classic film and has many Great Old Christmas Songs...Great dancing, fine acting... It is pretty festive and everything but the cover makes it appear that it might be in color.. and it isn't and there are some pretty insensitive scenes with musical numbers in black face.

I know it is part of our history (stereotyping and racism as accepted popular entertainment), but it made me cringe nonetheless...

If i had it to do over, I would have bought White Christmas which is a bit more suited to my modern sensibilities.

I've lived long and seen more than my fair share of schmaltz and cornball, but the opening song and dance number in this film takes the cake. Crosby's lame jazz warblings and Astaire's embarrassingly dated footwork are enough to give you an undesired and unexpected second look at whatever meal you last ate. Absolutely dreadful. I find it impossible to imagine a crowd of intelligent people sitting in a theater and finding this film entertaining or enjoyable. Say what you will about the state of movie making today, but schlock like this makes you realize just how far the art form has evolved. If released today this abomination would rightly be hooted out of theaters.

Fred Astaire, the best dancer of the mid-20th century, and Bing Crosby, the best singer of the mid-20th century, together in a classic comedy musical. It's good, clean, old-fashioned fun, suitable for the whole family.

Very cute holiday movie since Bing Crosby and Fred Astaire are fun and entertining. The video was of good quality and the download was easy, but I was disappointed that it was difficult to create a back-up disc and I was unable to convert the file to a form that is able to be viewed on TV. It will unfortunately only be viewable on PC.

I agree with the majority of the reviewers that this is a great movie to watch around Christmas. The Abe Lincoln song is, by today's standard, at the very least condescending and demeaning. I wouldn't go as far as racist since the song is suportive of Lincoln;s anti -slavery efforts.

on a personal note this movie takes me back to my granparents house, a beautiful home in upsate new york. When I hear Bing sinf it's like my grandparetns arer back alive and with me. Obvioulsy anything that can evoke such memories is a classic.

Why on earth they did a good remaster job on this and NOT bother to restore it also .... I'll never know. This is my one of my all time favorite movies. But I do have a different release of this on DVD and I'd much rather watch it - then be reminded that Universal botched this one. There are obvious places in this edition that are SOOO annoying visually - that are not even in the other DVD's - makes me wonder why go to all the trouble to remaster a lesser quality print of the film. *sigh*

Great movie, I can't add much to the already positive reviews. although I wish a colorised version was available. I never would have said that 10 or more years ago. But Colorization has come a long way. For purists a dual black and white-color version would be awesome. See legend films if you think it can't or shouldn't be done.

Although I was not around during his peak of popularity, I am a huge fan of Bing Crosby. The first album I ever personally bought was a cassette of Bing Crosby's Christmas songs, and my respect for Bing carries over into this wonderful classic as he showcases both his acting and his singing.

This is one of those wholesome films that captures your heart right from the start. The characters are easy to relate to and the musical score that accompanies this is excellent. There is nothing vulgar about the film at all, making it a top pick for family viewing (or for any type of viewing, for that matter--who needs the awful junk that makes up 95% of Hollywood's output today?)

The film brings feelings of nostalgia to me despite the fact I am significantly younger than the film. It makes me feel as if I am a few years younger and makes me remember the Christmases of years past, all of which have their own special memories. They are vintage wine--the oldest ones get even better with age--and the movie is the glass to hold that metaphorical wine. I just watched it for the first time last Christmas but plan to make it a tradition. However, I should note that the movie is good at any time of the year--after all, there are other holidays featured in this film!

Long overdue for restoration, so glad I could see something close to the original. This was long one of my favorite musicals: the plot is aptly sentimental, Bing's crooning is right on the mark, and Astaire's dance numbers were spectacular, great showcases for his unequalled talent. What's unfortunate is the blatant racism in some of the plot and most especially in at least one of the holiday production numbers (Lincoln's Birthday.) Of course this film was made in a different and clearly unenlightened era, but even as a non-African American I find some of the scenes painful and embarrassing. I still have to admit to the guilty pleasure of enjoying most of it. This really was Astaire's showpiece.

This is a must see for anyone who enjoys music, dancing and comedy. As a classic oldie it definately stands the test of time and can hold it's own against any contempory offerings

Most people think that White Christmas, I's A Wonderful Life, and Miracle on 34th Street are the trio of holiday movies that one must have in their holiday collection in order to be complete. The holiday collection really ought to include this gem of a movie. Holiday Inn is everything great about that era of movies. It is a wonderful musical with great songs and dance routines and the story is charming. If you like older musicals then this needs to be a part of your holiday and anytime of the year collection!

Holiday Inn is a traditional Christmas holiday movie. For those who love musicals, this movie has lots of music and dance. Bing Crosby is at his best singing the great songs of the 40s. No one can beat the rhythmic steps of Fred Astair and his dancing partner. This DVD version has great quality: the "darkness" of the negative has been brightened; the sound has improved.

We use this movie to kick off our family holiday traditions that we have created.

Certainly fun to watch and hum along with the tunes too.

This is a very touching and moving film. Even my husband, the battle hardened Marine Corp pilot, thought it was a good movie. He was surprised that it did not come across as a "chick-flick". It has humor, tender moments, and some twists and surprises along the way. Great for family viewing. The acting was very good. This film addressed issues that many families and individuals face every day. It was also believable!

No film library should be without this film.In every aspect this is a classic. Not only is this this great for Christmas but for any time of the year. With the work of Crosby and Astaire this film stands above many other musicals and the extras included in this set are great.Everyone knows the song White Christmas is from the film of the same name but this is the film where it debuted and it is the better setting for it.It carries with it more emotion and feeling this time.

The music and dance in this show is more fluid than in most of Crosby and Astaire's shows. The plot is rather redundant of the time. If you are a fan of these two actors then you will like the movie. Astaire does an unusual dance routine; alot of which I would liken to more of a Gene Kelly movie. I liked most the song "Holiday Inn" which hence the name of the movie. I heard the music first on a CD and searched the internet for the movie because I could tell it had come from a movie score. Cheerio.

Despite being in black and white, this movie contains some of the best song and dance routines ever! The characters are believable, the plot very classic, and the music superb. But the dancing is what makes this most enjoyable. Even Der Bingle did a great job!

Holiday Inn is just one of those 'feel good' movies that you can watch all year round. My favorite time to watch it is around all those holidays that don't normally have songs to go with them (Washington's Birthday and Thanksgiving for example).

The Special Edition DVD is particularly wonderful because of the extras. I really love the interview with Fred Astaire's daughter highlighting his career up to the movie.
