So I love the Sims and The Sims 2 and own all of the expansions, but overall I believe that the Sims 2 Seasons and The Sims 2 Pets are two of the weakest.
Do not get me wrong, there are good points to this expansion, but they are not really worth the bad points.
I love the added aspect of having a pet, being able to own a pet store, getting your pet a job and all that, but really, it is almost the same as having a kid in the game, just one that is fuzzy and walks on all fours.
Also, this expansion, along with Seasons are two that really can slow your game a lot. The load time more than doubled for me when I added this expansion. I played it for awhile, then took it off of my system because it really did not add enough to the life of my Sims to bother with. Also, the added stray animals are really just annoying as all get out.
If you are a fan, it is worth checking out to see if you like it or not. My wife really like this expansion. I do not.

Creating pets is a nice addition to the game. Its also pretty fun being able to have a parrot or hamster (although you have to feed them a ridiculous amount of times during the day, or they keel over dead). This much, you probably know from reading the title.
The problem with the game, is this is really all there is too it. Yes, some new items are added, but really the only new game play features are the pets. So, its just alright. Yes, the pets are cute and fun, but they get old after a while, and without other new components, its not really that worthwhile unless you REALLY want the pets.
Also, just as a side note, the ability to have a puppy or kitten is pretty frustrating. You can't just buy a puppy or kitten from the store, nor can you create one yourself - you will either need to breed them, or adopt what few there are. there are only a few premade ones, that don't seem to be replenished. Choices are limited for adopting. For instance, there are only three kittens to adopt (which all look the same). The only way to add more kittens to the adoption pool is to raise two cats, have them have kittens, and give those up for adoption. In my book, thats kinda a chief flaw for a game that centers on the pets.
A great expansion pack! - Review written on February 07, 2008

This is a great expansion pack! with it you can pick a cat or dog from dozens of breeds, or create your own breed with the same detail that you create a sim! the personality is a bit simpler than a sim's, but that's to be expected, of course. You can't control them but you can make your sims teach them different commands like come here, sit up, roll over, eat, sleep... you can also tell them when something that they're doing is wrong so that they won't do it again, like tearing up the furniture or getting up on the counter and eating sim food (yes, cats do that!) Personally, I think that it's more realistic for you not to be able to control pets and your sims can only start to control them gradually. Ther's tons of new objects in this expansion pack, from pet houses, pet bowls, and pet toys, to new doors, carpets, windows and much more! There's two new building tools that are very convenient: The sledgehammer tool (that can erase anything no matter what it is) and the Flatten Lot tool, that makes the whole lot flatten itself to the level of the street.
On the whole, a very fun expansion pack! I recommend it.
Over-rated, but fun while it lasted. - Review written on October 29, 2007

I've waited months for this game to come out. I got it the first day and was SO excited. But, this game takes up SO much memory on my computer and i have to sit there and wait soo long for all the menus to load....loading a game, create a pet, create a family...it's just not so fun anymore due to extreme lag and constant loading. Obviously, its not JUST the pets game, if you have every other Expansion Pack before it then you would have problems. I don't know why EA keeps creating more and more expansion packs to fill up your WHOLE drive, its fun, but its getting more insane with the lag!
But other than that, it is a real let-down. This game was very over-rated. It is a ton of a lot better than Unleashed for regular Sims, but there is nothing to do once you have a pet. My experience was:
"Yay! I got a pet!"
"All right! I taught it some tricks!"
"Cool...it had ONE puppy/kitten"
"Ok, it has a job"
"Umm...NOW what?"
I don't even get any more pets because it makes the house SO hectic! Every pet gets in the way of the house AND the gameplay. I'd have to stop what I'm doing and go tell it NOT to rip up furniture? *sigh*

THis game rocks! If you haven't bought all of the other expantion packs like University or Night life ( like me ), you still get turn ons and turn offs, diagonal pools, diagonal, and octanganal walls, and custom hair. In this expantion packs you get PETS (of course), a way to make a wearewolf (I haven't done it yet, but one of my sims wants to be a wearewolf), plus other stuff. There is so much you can do with your pet train them, give them a job ( wich unlocks collars, and fur colors), and breed them. There are also smaller pets like birds hampsters and fish that you can't control at all, but you can watch and play with. You can't tell any of the pets not do something, but you can scold and prasie them so after a while they get the picture. also when you create a pet you can pick weather you want them to be crazy or calm, smart or dumb, and weather they like clean places, or messy places. If you have an already created family that doen't have a pet, you can buy an aleady created pet over the phone, or create your own at a pet store. Plus, if you have a family that doen't want random pets coming in their house, you can lock the gate, so pets can't come into your house. Over all this is a great expansion to get.
