A Great Product - Review written on October 02, 2008

This is the best hand cranked flashlight I've found. I've tried two other brands that were unreliable. The internal batteries seem to hold a charge for months at a time. Every time I pick it up, it will light without any need for cranking. I'm hoping to get many years out of it. Walmart should stock this product. I think that they did at one time, but do not stock it now.

This flashlight came with one led blown. The packaging states that the lifetime warranty does not include leds or batteries.
There is no information on where to purchase replacement leds.

Let's see, what would one need to know before investing a few $$ in a flashlight...

- good, ergonomic and nicely designed shape, fits well in my palm
- of course, no batteries to change or charge so there's one less worry
- the crank is easy to turn and, so far, the body is not cracking or falling apart because of the stress
- the LED's project nice, bright, bluish-white light
- you have 2 brightness modes: a 1-LED and a 3-LED mode
- durable

I bought 2 of these, some 4 months ago and they are still working well, as good as new.

The negatives? I can't think of any.
Hurricane Ike Tested and Approved - Review written on September 18, 2008

Interestingly enough, I ordered and received this flashlight only weeks before Hurricane Ike knocked out electric power in most of the Houston area.

What it is:
A very reliable source of light if you need it. It is adequate for finding your way around the house in pitch dark. Some reviews complain that the LEDs are not very bright. Well, they are not as bright as a Maglight, but if the batteries are dead in your Maglight... you will be glad you bought one of these. It is adequate and dependable. It is still functional after countless cycles of use, dim, crank, use, dim, crank.

What it isn't:
It is not a replacement for traditional (brighter) flashlights and other light sources. You will want something brighter to read by. But if you don't want to trip over the dog in the middle of a power blackout, THIS THING WORKS. No it does not last an hour on a crank cycle. Did you really believe that it would? My guess is about 30 minutes, but frankly I have not timed it.

P.S. I have now used more than two dozen D-cell batteries and many of my Maglights are dead. (Ya would have thought that would be enough backup batteries, huh?) I wish I had ordered a couple more of these crank flashlights.

Not a good quality item - Review written on September 18, 2008

If you are planning to buy this light you should know the real facts: It does work as indicated, however, the light beam is not that powerful (I've seen smaller LEDs perform a lot better) and the build quality is not that good (I've used mine only a couple of times and the crank shaft cover made of rubber is already falling off). It costs less than US$9 so you cannot expect Swiss made quality though.

For the money, it's not bad. However, I would spend a little more and buy a better light.

Seems to work ok.
I don't think it puts out as much light as other "LED" flashlights but for the price, it will work!
If you need a cheap flashlight that doesn't need batteries, this one will work ok for you

Garrity Power Lite 3 LED: When I first tried this product, I cranked it for 30 seconds and left it on for to see how long it lasted. With a 30 second crack it lasted over four hours using 3 LED. So for the price it's well worth it!!!

I live in San Diego where the power supplier is like in a Third World country, San Diego Gas & Electric. With frequent outages, I have several backup lights. I just purchased this Garrity because of the crank-up. I have several Garrity rechargeable lights and they have all been excellent. This little gem is brighter than I expected and I tested it as soon as I got it. I wound it for one minute, turned it on and it still had power at 30 mintues, then began to dim at 35. I wound it again and it recharged like a charm.

This lightweight flashlight is nearly all plastic, but compared to the others I've tried, it's much brighter and a great price. It also has a lifetime guarantee.

Light is great. The reviews here are very accurate. Very bright, easy to 'wind' up. However, be warned that many purchases I have made from Amazon direct (not their affiliates) has come with very little inner box padding or packing material. They shipped my flashlights (3 of them) bouncing around inside a big box with very little padding. This is the 3rd time. What is it going to take to insure that my purchases are packaged properly? I want the idiot(s) in shipping to get written up for this. Sorry, but what was supposed to be a very happy day getting my toys turned out to be another Amazon disappointment... I am going to cut/paste this into a review for every product I purchased that was improperly packaged.

The flashlight functions ok but it appears to made out of cheap materials and light is really weak. I was also using a cheap battery powered flashlight, that turned out to be far more powerful.

Firstly, I ordered two, and one came broken...one of the LED's won't 'illuminate' (...and at today's shipping costs, it isn't worth the price of sending it back for an exchange/refund). Secondly, I ordered this model because the photo showed it to be flat...which is what I needed...to easily fit in my car's narrow glove compartment. But I received an 'updated' model which is much bulkier, and won't fit in my glove compartment (along with all my other stuff.) As for the light output and duration, I read (from the 'Amazon reviews') that it's better than the Illuminator brand, but my Garrity dims quite a bit after 15 minutes. However, I also bought the simialr and larger Duracell '2-pack' crank light, and I would rate this less-expensive Garrity higher than the more expensive Duracell crank light.
Cool batteryless feature, but weak light output - Review written on July 10, 2008

I bought this flashlight for my husband. While he loves the wind up feature and never having to replace it's battery, I noticed that the light output is not strong. While at first, it is bright, the flashlight quickly dims and the light output is very weak. Unless you continuously wind it up (which is bad for the flashlight), there is no strong light.

I noticed this when we were renovating our bathroom. When you're looking in dark places (in between walls) at pipes, this flashlight was sort of useless because even with it on, one couldn't really see details like screws and such.

While this might be a great flashlight if you're just walking outside and you don't mind a dimmer light source, this flashlight dims in comparison to the normal standard flashlight in light output.

I am a little bit disappointed by this fact since I bought two of them. I rate this product 3 stars. Nice idea and design, but needs to improve in the light output category.
A best buy in wind-up flashlights! - Review written on June 26, 2008

Did a bit of research on wind-up flashlights before this Crank Light from Garrity was ordered, and have no regrets about this choice. Was simply looking for a reasonably priced crank or wind-up emergency flashlight without any frills, but one that was built well and might last a few years.

Came very close to buying the Dynamo Illuminator Wind-up LED Flashlight, but checking with "friends in the business" found that it didn't seem to have the battery life of the Garrity. That was backed up by some of the reviews found here.

The product features from Garrity say "easy-to-wind crank-light provides up to 30 minutes of light with one minute of cranking." Further down the product description says: "With just one minute of cranking, this flashlight will provide up to one hour of bright light with its three super bright LED bulbs." My personal experience has been that 60 seconds of cranking (60 complete cycles), this Crank Light provides decent illumination for over an hour... and longer than that if you use it in the single bulb mode.

The only thing to watch out for, as has been noted by another reviewer, is to not crank the light with it turned on in the single bulb mode, as too much current could flow through the LED and burn it out.

Others you might want to consider are the more costly Duracell Crank Light 3 in 1, 3 LED Flashlight, Radio, Charger with its extra features, or the Wind 'N Go Flashlight.
Garrity Power Lite is a must for campers. - Review written on June 11, 2008

No more dead batteries. The crank for power is better than the shake for power types of flashlights. Strong, long lasting light and you'll never need to buy batteries again. The best part when you need it (when its dark) you won't be searching for good batteries. Just give it a few cranks and you're in business. I highly recommend this product.

Bright Idea, Not So Bright Light - Review written on May 07, 2008

I bought this because I was tired of replacing batteries in my flashlight. It works as advertised and I'm glad I have it, however, the light is not as strong as a traditional battery powered light (at least when the batteries are new). It's a good compromise, though. The LED lights cast a nice wide and even light. It is not a strong light, but more like a bright glow. It's works fine for me to see my way to my office out back. But what I noticed is you cannot see specific things that well. For example, if I want to see if the lock on my door handle is in the locked position, shining this light on it does not reveal such a small detail. It brightens up the whole area but you can't focus it on a small area. I wish I could focus all 3 LEDs to one spot, but you can't. I knew in advance this light wasn't going to be super bright by reading the packaging. It plays down the brightness of the light and sells the battery-less feature. I am satisfied with my purchase, but be aware of it's limitations.

I use this all the time now. It's really bright and it's just fun to crank up and charge anyway. It's better than most other crank up lights I've seen as this is actually sturdy and fairly ergonomic. The crank folds into the light and has a nice rubber end. I like that there's two settings: one spotlight, and one general light. No more batteries and dead flashlights!

Works well - I like that you can have either one or three of the light bulbs lit up, though the three don't seem to throw a wide beam. Rather large - I wouldn't recommend it for those with small hands. The light isn't super bright (as is to be expected), but is comparable to similar LED lighting items. Light dims quickly, but you can crank as you use. I wouldn't pay more than $10 for it.

I grew tired of never having a working flashlight in the house and decided to get something different that wuld work in an emergency. I was so happy after i received it that i purchased another one for my car. Since we don't use our flashlights often they were always out of batteries and we spent a fortune replacing them. Since we purchased this we haven't had one issue. i crank it just 5 times if i need something in the garage or dark space. If i crank it longer it works for a really long time. best of all it's always ready. perfect to have for emergency or in your car (where you rarely use it but it batteries are always worn out when you need it). highly recommended

I can't tell you how much I value this unit. We have lost power several times and this flashlight has been a life saver. I usually only have to crank charge it once a month and I have light on demand. In addition, cranking is easy. A minutes worth of cranking charges this unit. A tad noisy if charged when in the presence of sleeping toddlers but otherwise very nice unit. I will be buying 2 more for our cars.

I have used the Garrity Power Lite 3 LED Crank Light for over a year. I have also given a dozen of these lights to family and friends as gift. Several of these recipients have also purchased these llights to give to others as gifts. These lights give clear and bright light as advertised. I highly recommend these lights to any and all. You will gladly replace all other lights with these LED lights.

This flashlight is as advertised. Two levels of brightness are convenient and the high level is quite adequate. I purchased this because of a series of reviews that indicated that this item would retain brighness better over its lifetime. I'm hoping for that, but won't know for some months/years yet. Case is attractive, nice flat shape that doesn't roll of tables, etc. And the price was right. I'm pleased with it.

Good, reliable, crank flashlight -- I've tried several brands, this is the best! - Review written on January 07, 2008

Before I discovered the Garrity Crank Light I had tried the "shaker" flashlights and several other brands of crank-powered lights. The Garrity is by far the best of the products.

One great advantage of the Garrity design is that you can crank whether the light is on or off. With another brand, cranking while the light was on sharply decreased the ability of the battery to take a charge after that -- basically ruining the unit. The Garrity crank is also much "tighter" than the other brands I have tried; my new rule of thumb when examining these lights is if the crank has significant play before it starts to engage, stay away from it! The unit is large enough for a comfortable grip without hitting your knuckles while cranking, and the crank handle can be used to prop the light up at several different angles while changing a tire, etc.

I have one of these in each car, one in my hiking backpack, and one in the house, and I watch for sales because I want to give one to everyone I know. (I have a campaign to convince other people to switch to rechargeable batteries and not send more "disposable" batteries to the landfill. But also, I think this is a good tool which everyone could use and appreciate.) Based upon my experience with these lights, I am going to try the other Garrity products including the lantern.

Highly recommended.

I bought this for my 9 year old. Great light, no batteries needed, they just crank and go. One thing I don't like, cranking it is loud and the faster you crank the louder it gets, which is fine until you try to get some rest and see this light flashing and hear the crank cranking.

As wind-up flashlights go, this one is fine. It is harder to crank and not as bright as the Wind-n-Go, which I also have. Don't know about run time, but it works for small jobs.
