Disappointing. - Review written on August 01, 2008

The only reason I bought a head set is because of the new law in California requiring that one be used while driving. I did not want to purchase a blue tooth set because I didn't want another device that I would have to worry about keeping charged. I have used other plantronics headsets before and they have been great. However, this one is rather disappointing. This is 99% due to the fact that the headset volume is very poor. I have turned up the headset volume on my phone to its max volume and I can still barely hear the caller on the other end. The set supposedly has a noise canceling mic so that wind and background noise is not picked up, however this feature is useless because I have to have the windows up and the radio off just to be able to hear the other person talking to me. Even then I'm constantly asking people to repeat themselves. I make several business calls while driving and this just makes me seem like I'm not paying attention and makes me look very unprofessional. The cell phone I'm using is a Samsun M500 from Sprint. The audio quality during regular calls is great and the volume is more than adequate on the phone itself. So I don't think its my phone. Otherwise, the way the headset clips to your ear is unique and actually fairly comfortable. The only issue is that when you're driving and multitasking it can be a little tricky to put it on and get it to stay where you want it. Over all, I would recommend this product if I could simply just hear the person Im talking to. Being that it fails in this most basic sense of its purpose, I'd say to buy something else.

Bought two of these, one for the wife. For the money you can't beat it. The fact that they connect at the bottom of your ear is a nice design feature. It's comfortable and people have no problem hearing you.
Not the best if you wear earrings - Review written on July 29, 2008

I have had this a few weeks and like it. I hear my callers just fine. I've asked and they hear me just fine as well. No "tunnel" sound or anything. The little devise to use for hands free calling works well. If only I could teach my phone English! Anyway, my only complaint is: the way this hooks on the ear is from underneath. I'm a girl and I wear earrings so this has been a problem for me. Hoops are a particularly tricky and sometimes painful adventure. It is otherwise comfortable to wear and stays on once it's in place. I would highly recommend this to anyone who does not wear earrings.

I've had a Plantronics Voyager Bluetooth headset for a couple of years now, but because the battery lasts so long, I tend forget to charge it when it does die and then go without. Plus, I carry both a work and a personal cell phone, so what, am I supposed to wear a headset in each ear? A new hands-free cell phone law just went into effect in Washington and I was hoping a wired headset would solve two problems: no battery to worry about and I could switch it between phones.

I decided to stick with Plantronics and ordered this, even though I was skeptical considering the low price. Unlike other headsets I've tried, this one didn't come with different sized earbuds for the part that fits in the ear. I usually use the smallest size and now realize that ability to switch is a must have feature. The size of the circular piece that goes in the ear is huge on this headset. It just didn't fit--I could not even wedge it in my ear. I tried on the drive home yesterday to wear it anyway, but it took forever to get it positioned so that it kind of worked (necessitating use of two hands, which in my opinion negates the purpose of the hands-free cell phone law). Plus, despite the fact that the clear rubber piece that goes behind the ear seems pretty flexible, my ear did not agree. After a few minutes, I felt like I had a clothes pin attached to my ear pinching and cutting off the circulation.

So overall, this headset was exceptionally uncomfortable and I'm returning it. Also, I didn't notice until I tried to plug this in that my work cell doesn't use a 2.5 mm plug, so it only worked on my personal cell anyway.
Should mention only for cell phones - Review written on June 23, 2008

I bought this to use with my landline phone, but it won't plug into it. The plug in is too small.

I may not be versed when it comes to electronics, but it seems that if they would just mention SOMEWHERE that it is for cell phones, for those of us that use landlines phones, it would be helpful. I am contacting the seller to see if there is an adapter that could be used.

If I get an adapter, I will revise this review to let people know what they will need.

I have been using Plantronics headsets for many years. They have all been *awesome* - the best sound quality and great durability. You must be sure to purchase the right product, however. [...] I wish other people who review products would be more careful. The Plantronics website quickly checks compatibility for you - a few extra seconds well spent. Also, if you are not satisfied with *any* product, most manufacturers appreciate the feedback and will help. They want satisfied customers. Amazon is also great at processing returns, if necessary. One final product comment - people tell me the sound quality of my cell phone is *better* with the Plantronics headset than without it! Plus, I can speak in a normal or quiet voice and still be heard clearly. The noise canceling mic really works!

I speak approx. 5000 minutes a month on the cell phone. For one reason or another the bluetooths have not been conistent enough for me. They always seem to falter at critical times and I have tried at least a dozen of them.
After finally going with the wired ones and I have tried literally 25 to 30 of these wired headsets and the average cost of them was about $20 - $22. I use them mostly when I am driving, but they always seem wanting in one way or another. There never seems to be enough volume on them. Finally this one makes it. It works great and the volume level is more than adequate - Horray!
If you are looking for a reliable excellent headset and not want to burn your ear with just using the phone earpiece, this is the one to get. I am actually ordering another one today!

I talk on my land line for approximately 8 hours per day, as I work from home. This headset is my third. I like the design and the high quality materials used to produce this one, but I am very disappointed with the sound quality. It is possible that the poor quality is from my portable phone or the phone line itself, but my friend said there was a distinct "buzzing sound when I used it versus when I spoke without it. Sound quality for the heaqdset user is probably the loundest and the clearest of the headsets I have used. In all, I would think that someone out there would make a headset that actually had good audio for both the speaker and the listener. Strange that no one seems to have accomplished this.

I'm in field sales and on the road daily. Sick of the road noise which my (yes it's older) bluetooth headset was picking up, purchased the MX256-X1. The noise cancelling does work and now I'm using this for both my cell and home cordless phone.

I would have to guess that other complaints were not a result of the headset not being good, but maybe the phones it is used with. Great product, great price, great buy.

I read all the reviews from everyone about this item before deciding to purchase it. I agree with them, that it is a great headset. I'm an avid walker, and now happy to be able to chat with my friends with a great noise-canceling feature.

I haven't tried this headset with a cell phone, just a wireless home phone, and it was disappointing. Everyone that I spoke to while using the headset reported that I sounded very far away. If your searching for a headset, don't end your search with this one. :-(

I've owned this ear-piece for a couple of months now and I'm quite satisfied. I've bought cheap headsets in the past and had to replace them around the 6-month mark so I'm hoping this will hold out. Sound quality is better than the cheap ones and this just feels like more substantial hardware. Push button to talk while driving is a plus, but we all know you should get off your phones while driving. This is my favorite mic over the four others I have owned.

I use this for my new LG Rumor phone, which does not get clear calls on to begin with. Anyone that I've left a voicemail for using this handsfree piece complained about not being able to decipher what was said. I stopped using this after a day.

I work in the health care field and have to travel many miles every day to see my hospice patients. Communication via cell phone is critical and I carry more than one brand of phone. I am very pleased with the quality and comfort of this headset and recommend it.
HIGH Quality - Low Cost Alternative to Blue Tooth - Review written on November 15, 2007

I have a Plantronics Explorer 510 Blue Tooth headset, and I really like. (See my review). But I don't always remember to keep it charged, so I run out of battery before I run out of "talkery!"

I was chatting online with a Plantronics customer support specialist who suggested that rather than buying a car charger, why not buy a wired set as a backup? GREAT idea!

The Plantronics MX256-X1* is a SUPERB piece - EXCELLENT sound quality on both ends of the call, with ONE TOUCH Answer/End call if your phone is so-equipped (e.g. Sprint's Voice Command) It WEIGHS LESS than its wireless counterparts, and is VERY comfortable to wear for extended periods: This unit features a SOFT silicone "clip" that attaches to the backside of your ear, not over the top. This means that it won't interfere with your glasses like the vast majority of Blue Tooth devices!

* NOTE: It is the X1 designation on ALL Plantronics wired sets that denotes compatibility with one-touch-equipped/voice command-type phones. IF your phone has this capability, make sure you look for a Plantronics unit with the x1 designation.

I own this product and have used it for 1 month. Product finish and quality is good. I bought it to use with our home phone with 2.5mm plug jack. For the headset user the sound is very good. For the other person the headset user's voice is too far away - but still audible. (They always can tell when you are using it). No way to adjust mic or headset volume.

Excellent sound quality. Noise cancellation really works. The button on the headset string lets you automatically place a call and end the call. Very nice. Works much better and more reliably than ANY BlueTooth set I've tried - and I've tried almost all of them.
