I bought this because I wanted to have a light that I could leave down in my basement for low light situations, like picking things out of storage under the stairs and looking in my little chest freezer, which doesn't have a light, without worrying about dampness or batteries fading over time. I received this and played with it for a while, because the customer reviews indicate that the quality doesn't seem to be consistent in their manufacture. However, I'm delighted with my flashlight. The real product specifications say that 1 minute of shaking will produce one hundred minutes of light, and I've only had to shake this thing a couple of times in a LOT of use. I'm sold on it - so much so that I'm buying one for the house, one for the car, and one for my emergency kit. I'm even thinking about giving them as gifts. If any of them don't work, I'll return it.
I really don't know what the gripe is when a product doesn't work. Especially in a case like this, return the product so the company can see what they're doing wrong and fix it. These people aren't dumb - they know that they have something new, and that the more reliable their products are the more money they'll get. I contacted iTouchless at 650-578-0578, and asked them what they do if the flashlight is defective. They said that they offer a mail exchange for the customer, if it's within 30 days of purchase. And they pay the mail charges. So I'm buying more.
Oh, by the way, I've heard that there are extremely cheap so-called "shake" flashlights out there that really have batteries in them. This is not one of those. I looked into this before I made my first purchase, because I knew that if this worked, I'd want more of them.
Not the brightest, but good for focused lighting - Review written on November 13, 2006

I tested this flashlight in my dark barn. Usually, I carry a larger flashlight with a wide, yellow beam so I won't step on any cats or chickens. As far as size, it is conveniently small. But after shaking back and forth according to the instructions, it still did not cast a very wide beam.
I felt like it worked best for focused lighting-- as in, reading maps or books. The light is pale and doesn't spread out, so if you're looking for a flashlight that will help you avoid tripping in the dark, this might not be the best one.
Still, not needing batteries or bulbs is convenient, and I haven't had any problems with the light fading or going out. As far as walking outside in the dark or going into my barn, though, I still prefer a brighter flashlight. Maybe it's only a matter of perfecting the new technology.
