Much better than sleeping on air mattress ! - Review written on April 18, 2008

When I first started camping I would use air mattress. The air would slowly leak out at night and by morning I was sleeping on hard ground. Also very difficult to get up and down. The Slumberjack big cot is no different than getting out of real bed because of height and very roomy and comfortable. You can put sleeping bag right on top if you like. Has large storage area underneath the cot. You won't be disappointed if you purchase. The only negative is the first time you set up it is difficult to pull fabric over bar. After first time when fabric is stretched it is much easier.

Amazing! I'm tall and big and this cot is very large! Easy to setup execpt for the amazing strenght that you need to get the end bars on... the fabric is tight and smooth.

I'm a little disappointed with the pouch under the cot... but I didn't really buy it for that.... The quality is better than I would have expected. Happy camping!

This cot seems to be better quality than most cots out there. It is large, sturdy and comfortable. It is a little heavy, so I'll only be taking it car camping. It is pretty big, so it only fits in larger tents. It does fold up to a reasonable size for storage. I read a review that says it has an odor but neither of mine do. It does require some muscle to put together, but only so it will be stretched tight when you lay on it.
Horrible Cover - Review written on March 18, 2008

The cover (the thing you sleep on - not the bag) is like a rubber membrane and not a canvas or woven cloth. It doesn't have any strength and won't take any abuse without ripping. It might be OK for a spare bed in the house, but don't even think of taking it camping because it can't stand up to real wear. Even hauling it around in the car will probably damage it beyond use. I called the company to complain, they said I could get a new cover if they had one, but they don't have them and haven't had them for a year. So don't expect any customer support from Slumberjack. My recommendation is get a cot that advertises a cover with ripstop nylon or canvas. Don't buy this cot if you plan on using it.
This baby is the way to go! - Review written on March 06, 2008

This is a great product. It is BIG and it holds me (I weigh 300lbs, 6'3") just fine with plenty of room. It's a cot, so if you want extra comfort, use a pad with it or a decent sleeping bag. I put it together no problem, the way the end bars lock down is solid. As advertised the bag under the cot is also very smart and useful. I bought a different brand from a local store that claimed it would hold 500 lbs, but it was not well made, swayed and squeaked. I took it back right away. This is a very sturdy cot. Note that if your using this in a tent, figure on some pads or a tarp under the legs so you don't tear the tent bottom.

I have taken this cot camping twice now and I will never go back to sleeping on air mattresses again. It is the perfect width and is easy to set up. Also the storage compartment underneath is great for storing personal items.
Perfect cot - Review written on February 09, 2008

A very solidly built cot, period. I'm 6ft, 200 lbs., and it feels like it could handle a much bigger (heavier) person. No squeaking at all. The storage underneath is a nice touch. I was a bit concerned about cots when I purchased this, but I've used it indoors and in a tent, and its perfect. I could have gotten a slightly smaller cot, but this one *seemed* to be the most well made of the ones I was looking at, and this was proved correct. I had no trouble setting this up, it has a nice carry bag, and worked out just fine on a camping trip. Might be a tight fit on a 4-man tent or smaller.

this cot is very strudy and well made. the ends are very hard to get on so if your taking it up and down every day then I wouldn't buy it.however its made very well.I've had cots before and they usually broke. I really doubt this one would.its actually a nice looking cot also,it came on time and packed well. I think i would recomend this highly if you don't have to take it up and down every morning.

The cot itself is fine and comfortable. I've only used it once so far so I can't attest to its durability.

My only comment is I wish I had realized that some set up is required each time you use the cot.

This is not a huge deal, but in hindsight I would have preferred to find a model that is all one piece - I know it exists because I borrowed one from a friend that folded out nicely with no assembly.

I bought one for my Dad for Christmas and he loves it. My wife and I don't go camping as much, but we might buy another just to set up as an extra bed when we have guests. It's way more comfortable than an aero-bed.

Easy set-up, reasonably comfortable (it is a cot, not a serta after all), and sleeps a big man well (a 6'5"-er and a 6'2"-er both have slept successfully on them). This is a heavy cot - you'd car-camp with it or use it as a spare bed for a guest, but don't expect to take it backpacking or anything. I researched lots of air mattresses and cots for use as occasional guest beds and think this is a good deal for the price.

When I first used this cot it seemed excellent. The frame is very sturdy and the cot was comfortable. If I had written a review at that point I would have given it 5 stars. But the second trip I took the cover burst like a balloon. Really, I could feel it give a little, and by the time I could get off it there was a 4 foot long rip. It was then I started looking closely at the material of the cover - it is some rubberized material with a few threads in it - not a real canvas. And it has zero rip-stop capability. I tried to sew it but it was like trying to sew a balloon - it just doesn't work. The Slumberjack people say they will give me a new cover, but they never seem to have one in stock to send (for 4 months?). Only get this cot if you plan on using it once! My previous cot lasted 8 years.

I bought this cot primarily to use in my tent while camping. I am very well pleased with it - in fact, so pleased that I have ordered the XL size to go along with it. I placed a twin-size air mattress on the cot and slept very well.

The cot is sturdy, well-made, and while some effort is required to get the cross arms affixed to the frame, it is not *that* hard to do. I'm not a muscle man, but had no trouble setting it up.

This is an excellent product.
Finally good nights sleep camping - Review written on November 03, 2007

The slumberjack big cot answered my prayers on camping trips. I get a great nights sleep on it. Set up is relatively easy, although you do have to muscle the ends in but it was not overally hard. The cot is definitely solid and does not move, and it packs up to a decent compact size.

It is heavy and it does take up a decent amount of room in a tent, so make sure it fits before purchase.

I think anyone who buys this will be very happy with it.
Canvas needs to be stretched tighter - Review written on October 11, 2007

Rating: 4 out of 5

I am 5ft 11-1/2in tall, 235 lbs, and this cot was not to comfortable for me even though i used a 2in thick upholstered firm foam pad to sleep on. The cot seems to be well made but the fabric was not stretched very tight after assembly and i would sink to much or to low in the center of the cot. I returned this Slumberjack and i purchased an LLBean large cot (made by Byer of Maine?) and it is much better. If you are an overweight person like myself you might like something bigger and stronger than this cot. I liked the pouch underneath the cot as it was very useful for storage of an extra blanket.
Very Roomy - Review written on October 02, 2007

Rating: 5 out of 5

I especially like the fact that this cot is actually big enough to sleep on, I'm not a big guy, but I'm used to a king sized bed and a typical cot is so small, I can't get comfortable. This cot is a lot better than the usual. It does work a lot better with a self inflating pad on top, not quite like a real bed, but not really roughing it either....

Purchased this for our 18 year old grandson who is living with us on a temporary basis. We didn't want to spend the money on a regular bed and mattress. This cot is perfect, gives him plenty of room to stretch out on and he says it's very comfortable. Very sturdy and well made.

I love this thing. I put on an air mattress and memory foam pad on top of that and this thing is better than most beds. The only drawback is it's a bit bulky and heavy when folded up. Definitely not a hiking cot. But if you can get it there, you'll sleep like a baby.
Burning Man Tough - Review written on September 14, 2007

Rating: 5 out of 5

What a great cot - takes me back to my days in the Army. I just returned from a week at Burning Man - solid comfort. As it was quite cool at night, I used two sleeping bags, one to sleep on and a second to sleep under - warm as toast. My son also used it during a recent visit - he endorses it as luxury compaired to sleeping on my tile floor. The first time that I set it up, it was a bit difficult to get the end rails in the proper position. After a couple of days use, the fabric stretched and the assembly was much easier. Definately worth the extra money if you are a big person.

I've only ever owned one cot before. It was a cheap folding cot that didn't weigh much, but also wasn't very sturdy and had a very small sleeping area. This Slumberjack cot is very sturdy, packs small, and has a surprisingly large sleeping area. It's very firm, so you'll need a mattress, inflatable pad, or thick sleeping bag to provide back support, but this is a fantastic cot when you need an extra place to sleep. It packs very small and can be carried on your back in the bag that is provided, however this cot is made of metal so it is rather heavy. I wouldn't recommend trying to hike with this on your back, but for a mobile home, camper, cabin, RV, or campsite, this thing is really wonderful! It can also be very handy if you have unexpected overnight guests (in-laws, for instance).

So far so good, I've had this cot for an entire summer and it's held up to my 250lbs and my friends 280lbs. One of the most comfortable cots I've owned and the extra storage compartment on the bottom is great for cell phones, wallets, and glasses.

As a heavy guy, I wanted to get a cot that would fit into my tent, support my weight comfortably, and help keep my non-waterproof gear off the floor. This cot fills the bill very well. I found it quite comfortable using just a sleeping bag as a pad. The under-cot storage is roomy enough to hold a week's worth of clothes and towels. The only downside is that it takes some strength to stretch the top to slip the end-rails onto the pins at the top & bottom.

This is one great cot. Very sturdy and it doesn't squeak when you roll over. Get yourself a Wenger black self inflating mat which fits perfectly on the cot and a Slumberjack regular pillow and you are off to dream land. Lying flat on the cot with the Wenger mat and the Slumberjack pillow tucked under your neck is as if you are floating on a cloud.Gents, if you have a backyard work shop this is the perfect combination for a quick nap under a fan on a Saturday afternoon.

This cot is very sturdy and worked great! My only complaint, is that the first time I used it I did not bring a sleeping pad. It was very cold (Under 25 degrees) and all the cool air came up from the bottom of the cot. My second trip I used a pad and in the same temps found it worked great! I weigh about 230 and found the cot was very sturdy and supported me with ease.

I bought this cot to sleep on when I visited family this past holiday. (Tired of crashing on the floor). I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of this cot. I had it set up in a matter of a couple of minutes, tear down was just as quick. The storage compartment was extremely convenient too.

I slept on it for 8 nights straight and had no problems with comfort. A few days I had a pad, the rest I didn't. The fabric gives just enough to allow for comfort, and bounces back for the next night.

I don't understand the "smell" others experienced, there was none on mine. The only thing I did notice was the fabric was a little noisy from stretching if you move around, but I'm also a big guy.

I highly recommend buying this cot out of all the others on Amazon.

We bought two of these at a sporting goods store last summer. We have used them 3 times now and are very pleased with them. Two of the three uses were when we went visiting relatives and there was a bed shortage. No problem! We just tossed these in the back of the van before we left home and had a great place to sleep at the relatives. We were so pleased with these that we bought two more from Amazon before Christmas. They are quite sturdy. We noticed that the two we bought from Amazon were a little heavier than the ones from the sporting goods store. That made no difference to us but it was an observation we made. The straps were also a little shorter. That was a minor inconvenience and didn't affect the functionality whatsoever. We plan to get some velcro and make some longer straps.
One reviewer said they smelled bad. The four we have purchased have had no such odor. We highly recommend these cots.

We bought one of these cots for visitors, having had it recommended highly by friends. It is very sturdy and comfortable, especially if you add a sleeping pad. A big complaint though: it smells really bad. We unpacked it and put it out on the porch two days ago hoping that it will air out. So far it has not. We'll give it some more time; I find it hard to believe that anything that smells this bad could stay on the market so I am assuming that the smell will eventually go away (similar to what happens with memory foam products). The manufacturer should include information about this for their customers. If they had included a note explaining the smell (and if it does indeed go away), I would rate this cot 5 stars.

We have had our Slumberjack Big Cots for about 3 years now, and we love them. They are sturdy, comfortable, easy to transport and virtually indestructible. (Believe me, we have tried other brands, which self-destructed at the first try. Not the Slumberjacks! They are still going, and going, and going!)

These cots are excellent for short or long camping events. For short camping events, the cot, a sleeping bag and your pillow will ensure a good night sleep.

For lengthy ones (such as Pennsic) you can always add an inflatable mattress on top, along with a foam pad to avoid the cold air underneath, sheets, blankets and your pillow. It's like being at the Holiday Inn.

Plus having the extra storage space underneath is rather nice.

This cot is the king of all cots. I highly recommend it.
