Pin remover - watch band - Review written on September 25, 2008

What can you say about a "tool"? If it does its job and seems well made, then the review is good. My only complaint is, is that there where were no illustrations and instructions included. It was trial and error with photos of other similar pin removers for reference. Would have had 5 stars with instructions!

I just bought a watch with a metal band yesterday (Casio PAW1300T-7V) and I had to take out four links to fit my arm. All that's needed is a paper clip and small pliers. You just push the end of the pin out with the tip of the paper clip (in the direction of the arrow) and pull it all the way out with pliers. It's easy. I don't see why you'd want to pay $10 + tax for a tool that does it for you.

Yes, it works! remember, the pin should be pushed out on the side where the arrow is and pushed back in through the hole next to the arrow as well. to pull out the pin, gently pull it out with needle nosed plyers after using the tool, taking care not to bend the pin. great, simple product. I really like the fact that the pin on the tool is long enough to push out the watch pin enough to pull it out with plyers. The other blue tool they sell on amazon only has a short pin.

The tool was received promptly and in good condition. I was able to remove several watch band pins that were necessary to remove links from the wristband. Once you have accurately position the pin remover over the desired pins, and you are pushing the pin outward on the correct side of the watch band, then turn the knob clockwise to push the pins out. The tool has a spring-loaded "bed" (it's hard to see it in the picture) that will accommodate the different thickness of several different watch bands This tool adequately did the job with a little careful planning. I would recommmend the purchase of this tool.

The product is definitely over-priced. I can't imagine it costing any more than $2 to manufacture in China. It did not come with the 3 additional pins advertised, but fortunately I didn't need them. I was able to successfully use the tool on 3 of my watches. BTW. It comes with no directions; it took me about 5 minutes to figure out how to use the tool, but then I'm a bit slow :-) If you need to adjust a few watches and can't find anything less expensive; buy it, otherwise buy something of better quality.

It does exactly what it's supposed to do. If you use it twice, it will have paid for itself.

Other reviewers talk about tricks and extra equipment, but I just pulled it out of the box and went to work, with no difficulties.

I purchased the watch band pin remover at the recommendation of the internet. I was only going to buy the watch and then I decided maybe the band pin remover would make it easier for me to shorten the band. The pin remover does not work with the watch band on Seiko SGG709. I didn't return the band pin remover for two reasons: (1) I switched watch bands from one of my old non working watches to the Seiko SGG709 and it works just fine. I didn't have to shorten the band at all. (2) The band pin remover did work on another watch that I had, therefore, I decided to keep it. If I had to do it all over again I would not have purchased the band pin remover. I guess the best thing I can tell you is if you see something you like BUY IT and ONLY IT and you should be ok.

I am not a watch repairer by trade, but reasonably intelligent. When I opened the box, I discovered that there was no directions. No flyer on how to contact the seller. In other words, a $6.95 piece of useless plastic.
Must Have for Watch Enthusiast - Review written on June 28, 2008

I bought this tool back in February and I have not used is a few times. It has worked flawlessly, and I have not broken a pin yet. As others have mentioned keep the watchband and tool-pin aligned. Some times the clasp might might make it more difficult to keep horizontal alignment, watch for this as well as vertical alignment. It has certainly paid for itself for me. If you get new watches from time to time with metal braclets then you need a tool like this.

I bought one of these and another type for comparison and found this unit works very well. You have to remember you are working with very tiny precise parts so take your time. I've used mine repeatedly without breaking either the watch or the tool. The advance of the tool is smooth as it pushes the pin out of the band and the pad the band sits on has a spring in it so you just let it float into alignment. To insert the pin you have to gently push in into the band in another manner but when its close you can use this tool, again take your time, and properly seat the pin in the band. This tool does what it is supposed to do.

Works well and is essential for metal bracelet bands - Review written on May 21, 2008

The pin remover works well once you get the drive pin aligned with the link pin you're removing. I used this on a Citizen watch with a titanium case and band and it did work well. The watch band is 20 mm wide and just fit in the tool. It would be useful if they noted that this tool will not work with metal bands wider than 22mm. The supplied 0.85mm drive pin fits this watch, but may not fit all others. A good tool for the price and for limited, non-professional use.

This product was really easy to use. It isn't the most heavy duty plastic, but unless you're a serious brute, it should last long enough to pay for itself. I was able to size my husband's new watch in just a few minutes. Very useful, unless you like waiting around hours or days for your watch to get sized!
Tip to prevent pin breakage - Review written on March 25, 2008

Rating: 5 out of 5

The area where you rest the watch band is spring-loaded, hard plastic and the band can easily slip when pushing pins. I put a 1" long piece of vinyl electrical tape on the plastic -- this is just slightly tacky and keeps the band from sliding when your trying to push it down to align the pin tool. If the band slides, you can break the pin in the tool.

This is an average of 4 stars for WatchMaterial and no stars for Amazon.

I bought the tool along with the Casio MTG900DA-8V Watch because the Amazon product page said it was "better together". It is useless on that watch's band.

It is a quality tool. It was shipped promptly at a reasonable cost. When I complained that the tool would not work with the watchband, WatchMaterial made a prompt refund with no hassle. I would not hestitate to deal with them again. I would have given them 5 stars if the copy for the tool warned that there are a lot of watch bands that are not compatible with this tool.

I would not trust Amazon's pairings.

If you are considering this tool (or others), go to WatchMaterial dot com and look at their Education section on sizing watch bands. If you are not sure that the tool will work with your band, give them a call first.
Watch Band Pin Remover - Review written on January 20, 2008

A very handy item for anyone that likes to maintain his / her own watches. It takes a little getting used to the alignment of the pin when removing the watch band's pins. However, with a little patience and care it works quite nicely. Without patience and due care, it would certainly be very easy to break the replaceable pin.

With this tool..... I haven't run into any kind of problem resizing the band of my watch. This is real cool... it's just like a snap!!! Push the pins out, remove the excess/extra wrist band, re-attached the band together and "SNAP", you are ready to GO...

I've seen these at jewelry stores to which I've taken a watch to get the band resized. The jewelry stores at the mall tried to charge me $5.00 for this service. Buying this gadget is just what you need along with a little patience. Better to spend your $5.00 on the gadget.
Watch Band Pin Remover--It Works! - Review written on December 29, 2007

I bought this device on the off chance I would need to take out additional links from my metal watch band. I had used a tack as recommended in a review of the watch I had purchased, a Citizen's Eco-Drive Skyhawk AT, starting the pin with the tack (in the direction shown on the inside of the links with an arrow) and then pulling the pin the rest of the way with a pair of small pliers. Yesterday I noticed that I had missed one of the link arms when I replaced a pin so I went to my Watch Band Pin Remover. The first thing I noticed was that there were no directions. This might prove a fatal problem for the mechanical novice. The Remover works by twisting the knob on the end which moves the plunger into the hole in the watch band link. Two cautions--make sure the pin in the plunger is lined up exactly with the hole in the direction shown by the arrow on the link; then rotate the knob until the link pin is dislodged sufficiently enough to pull it clear. It took me two attempts to get the pin out and re-seat the link arm. I also discovered that the user can depress the spring-loaded plate at the bottom of the plunger channel to get better alignment with the pin to be removed.

The remover does the job. It just takes some patience getting the hang of it.

I recently purchased two brand new Tag Heuer watches (Steel and Gold!!!) and I knew I could make the band reduction without having to wait and pay extra money for the job at a local Tag Heuer dealer. This band pin remover is so easy to use that anybody can do it. However, take your time practicing w/ an old watch just so you can learn how to manage the device without breaking the needles or damaging your expensive watches. Remember -- like me you are an amateur! But there's no better satisfaction when you make the job right w/ the right tool -- and this is one that you should have handy!!!

This plastic gadget broke on me with the very first usage! It came with no instructions. I was obliged to spend yet more money to get a jeweler to remove a link on my watch. I did not bother, due to the hassle, to return this cheapo peace of $%&#. Think twice about buying this, a jeweler may be quicker and cheaper !!!

Rating: 3 out of 5

I bought this pin remover, based mainly on reviews here, and am a little disappointed. It appears to work fairly well, but the set screw for the pin on mine is nearly sheared off, due to someone probably tightening it too much when installing the pin that is installed upon arrival. I needed a smaller pin (included), so it was difficult to remove the original, and then tighten the new pin that I installed. It should work, but the set screw needs to be better quality.

Secondly, the thumb screw on mine turns with quite a bit of friction. I assume that adding oil somewhere will help this. I'd hate to have a $1K watch be ruined because I couldn't tell if it was just the friction of the thumbscrew, or if it was binding inside the watch band...

Guess you always get what you pay for. I just went by the most expensive "original" price I could find on Amazon, and didn't get what I expected.

The second time I used this contraption the plastic base broke, rendering it useless. Don't get it. Instead, use a tiny nail and a small hammer, tapping the pins out of the watch band(make sure you tap the right direction).

I found it easy to use, though some will find the lack of instructions difficult to operate the tool properly. Would be a much better item if the metal was of a much better quality.
