The 1990's really brought out the waves of pure feel-good party bands. For acts like The Offspring with Pretty Fly For A White Guy, and of course Sugar Ray featuring Mark McGrath and their upbeat track Fly, they have really been the staples of the feel good pop side of music. Smash Mouth is also no acception. During their glory days, mid-90's, and the early 2000's, the group has been really the leaders with making great party songs for everybody. They started right at the top, and still haven't lost their way. Yet, while there are some who have forgotten them, the songs definitely live on.

Smash Mouth's 2005 All Star Smash Hits, is a packaged collection of their biggest tracks from their era in the top 40. The collection actually delivers very well with remastering and compiling some of their best tracks including songs for movies like Clockstoppers, Mystery Men and Shrek. While some of those films died in vein, the music for those ill-fated flicks actually outlasted as great guilty pleasures 2 to 1. The collection includes great party songs like their first big hit, Walkin' On The Sun, their biggest hit All Star, the Neil Diamond cover of I'm A Believer, the quirky Then The Morning Comes, and Pacific Coast Party. While the album delivers well, it does overlook only one song, the tropical-styled You Are My Number One which was used in ads for Chrysler a couple of years ago.

Although it is just a shame many people don't seem to remember Smash Mouth as much anymore. Nevertheless, All Star Smash Hits is absolutely a must have for anybody who loves great guilty pleasure songs. They are still walkin' on the sun.

I am so stoked. Like, I heard these songs on infinite repeat in Walmart, but that wasn't enough. No. I have to hear these fantastic tunes more, whenever I want, on one CD. This is a dream come true. I only wish this CD has some really bad remixes of these songs I heard so often...only then would it be complete. My home can now sound like shopping at Walmart. Thank you Interscope.

The truth is, we need bands like Smash Mouth, we need bands that are fun, and we need good music in the summertime. There are a few bands around similar to Smash Mouth, but I'd honestly take these guys over Sugar Ray in a heartbeat. This is a generous 20 tracks, and includes about everything it should. We get the addictive big hits like "Walking On The Sun" and "All Star", we get the minor hits like "Then The Morning Comes" and "Pacific Coast Party", and we get a ton of soundtrack songs and covers. My favorites of those are "Why Can't We Be Friends", "Can't Get Enough Of You Baby", and "Getting Better". I like these guys enough to keep the albums I have, but if you're looking for your first or only Smash Mouth disc, this is obviously it.

The key to accepting and loving this disc is in the understanding that it is not great art (so it's not Houses of the Holy by Led Zeppelin, who cares?) What it is, is fun music.

Smash Mouth may be one of the most successful party bands in history. Listening to them you get the feeling that they do not take themselves seriously at all. But you always get the sense they do love music, love having fun and putting on good shows.

All Star Smash Hits pulls together 20 songs from their 5 released disc as well as soundtrack songs (Can't Hardly Wait and Shrek, Cat In The Hat. Me, Myself and Irene) and four covers tunes.

Infectious hooks and upbeat grooves is what drives the music. It is pop music at its finest with roots in Ska and Punk. The pacing of the music is good, starting with there biggest single and then going to earlier tracks before mixing in the soundtrack tunes.

Overall this CD is fun and lite, which is nice at time when there are a lot of heavy things in life going on right now everywhere. It's also good to have music I can listen with my kids while in the car.

Take this disc for what it is, fun party music for the car or a trip to the beach.

Don't go by the negative review by billaBong or whatever, he's probably some fan of hip hop Auntie Em or (M&M), whatever that stupid punk is called.
This is a good collection of fun music, something to actually listen to in today's world of junk.

Some critics deride Smash Mouth as a middle-of-the-road rock band with no real backbone to them, but as a fan I can say that rock bands don't always need to be the Biggest, Best, and Loudest to be great. Let's face it, Smash Mouth is a FUN band. This greatest hits collection is a perfect sampler of all their best stuff as well as songs from various soundtracks (Shrek, Can't Hardly Wait, etc.), all in one place.
