Most people are quick to dismiss such groups as this with a wave and a whisper of "boy band" or "pop," but I couldn't disagree more. While that may be true in some cases, The Click Five is anything but a boy band. They show a hint of punk styling (heck, the album art was lifted straight from British punk-pop) and are really more akin to groups like American Hi-Fi; they may be classified as "pop/rock," but that label is a bit too universal. Their music shows honest creativity, which is notably absent from and sorely needed in that genre. Most of the songs on this album are quite catchy, but not in a "pop-ey" way. Overall, I highly recommend this disc to anyone who likes mainstream rock, punk, or pop.
The most underrated punk-pop band out there right now - Review written on July 19, 2006

These days it seems like when people talk about punk-pop, all sights turn to Fall Out Boy. While that foursome is a good band in their own right, what's unfortunate is that people are overlooking other great bands like the Click Five. They deliver their fair share of good stuff on their full-length debut, Greetings From Imrie House.
First, I'd like to respond to a reviewer that wondered why there are so many negative reviews for this album. It's because there are a lot of people that believe that punk-pop is not only not real punk; it's not even real music, thus you have a lot of one-star reviews that tell us to listen to Black Sabbath and the Sex Pistols instead (why else do you think the first post in the respective forums for this album, Fall Out Boy's album, and the All-American Rejects' album are exactly the same?). But if you can take the music for what it is, it's quite good.
One thing I've noticed over time is that when an artist releases a single that becomes a modest hit, as much as I like it, what I end up enjoying more is the following single that DOESN'T become a hit (with 3 Doors Down, I liked "When I'm Gone" but I LOVED "The Road I'm On"; with Foo Fighters, I like "Best of You" but I love "DOA"). In this case, while "Just the Girl" is a decent song, I cannot -- repeat, CANNOT -- get enough of "Catch Your Wave". But songs like "Say Goodnight" and "I'll Take My Chances" are also good.
Speaking of "I'll Take My Chances", that is one of the songs that some may consider would cause the band to lose a little credibility, because both that song and "Just the Girl" were written by Fountains of Wayne frontman Adam Schlesinger (but in the long run I guess it doesn't matter because more people bought this album than bought Welcome Interstate Managers). Also, the band's cover of Thompson Twins' "Lies" doesn't help or hurt the album.
Though the songwriting can get a little average at times, as evidenced by "Pop Princess" and "Resign", Greetings From Imrie House is an above-average album that you shouldn't mind having in your collection.

P.S. In response to another reviewer, there's no cover of Tiffany's "I Think We're Alone Now" on here.

my sister got this cd for christmas of '05, and i pray for the day that she stops playing it 24 hrs straight. I thought the music industry was starting to recover from the "boy band" era, until bands like, fall out boy, all american rejects, and the click five came out. Apparently life is ONLY about love to them, they NEVER sing about any other aspect of life. The click five is just another phase in the collapsing of the music industry. At this rate, originality in music, will be a time long lost.
I think most of these reviews are by over-eager people with opinions, that's all - Review written on June 03, 2006

I've been reading a lot of these reviews, and it occured to me that most of them are only based on opinions and thinking everyone will agree with that opinion. My opinion is: It's great, but I realize that some might not think so.
Here's what I think:
1. If you like the harmony from The Beatles and other bands, or any harmony at all, that's one for this CD.
2. If you like hard rock with a good melody and a reasonable message, that's two for this CD.
and 3. If you like catchy tunes that turn over and over in your head, and have good lyrics, that's three for this CD.
I'll let you judge it for yourself, but personally, I loved it. I'd suggest going to clickfive.com and maybe you can listen to some of their songs for samples.

I absolutely LOVE this CD. The Click 5 is unlike any other boy band out there. They write nearly all of their songs and play their own instruments. Here's how I would rate each song:
1. Good Day- 10/10, this song is so uplifting. Ethan Mentzer, the bass player, wrote this song about a friend. I personally love it!
2. Just the Girl- 10/10, SO CATCHY! This song is insanely addictive (in the best way possible). Joe Guese, lead guitarist, does an amazing job in this song!
3. Catch Your Wave- 10/10; fun song to listen to! this video is so creative :). Joey Zehr, the drummer, sounds awesome in this song.
4. I'll Take My Chances- 10/10, this is the song that got me liking The Click 5. The harmony in this song is perfect!
5. Friday Night- 10/10, this song is super catchy. It has awesome lyrics and a great beat.
6. Angel To You (Devil To Me)- 10/10, this song is also addicting. The melody is great, and this is a song you can dance to easily.
7. Resign- 10/10, Eric Dill, the lead vocalist, wrote this song. It has meaningful lyrics and the harmonies in this song are unbeatable.
8. Pop Princess- 10/10, Ben Romans, the keyboard player, wrote this song. It's fun and fresh. Great song!
9. Time Machine- 10/10, this song is very powerful and has a great message behind it. The vocals are outstanding in this song as well.
10. Lies- 9.5/10, this song is fun and quirky.
11. Say Goodnight- 10/10, this song is one of my favorites on the CD. It's more of a ballad, and the vocals are perfect!
I HIGHLY recommend this CD. Buy it. You won't regret it.

If you look past the surface with these guys, you'll see that they're pretty good. Sure, they might dress up in suits and that might look like just a gimmick, but in reality these guys are good musicians who put on a great live show.
Sure the cd is very poppy but it's very pleasurable to listen to and has a lot of cool New Wave sounds (being the 80s child that I am this appeals to me), and is just darn catchy. I personally think that the lead vocals of Eric Dill and the supporting vocals of the rest of the band also add to the catchiness of the songs. And if you think that the songs are just catchy upbeat melodies about nothing whatsoever, think again...If you listen to "Time Machine", you'll realize that it has a deeper meaning. I think it's about being tired of life and sometimes just wanting to get away from it all. If you listen to "Good Day", granted it is very upbeat sounding, but it is about something we all go through at one time or another to varying degrees---the up's and down's of life. I especially love the lyrics "You're looking for something you can't find/If you give it up you'll lose your mind/There's always something in the way/What can you say? You're gonna have a good day." I think those are very uplifting and positive words.
Also I have to say that I have seen their live show, and it is nothing short of awesome. They really try hard to entertain the crowd and they are more edgy and rock sounding when they perform live. Not that I mind the pop in their music at all but I'm just noting the difference between how the cd sounds and how they sound live. I also had the chance to meet them after the show and they were very nice. They love and adore their fans.
So I guess what I'm trying to say is that there is more to this band than you think, and if you like pop/rock/New Wave at all it's definitely worth a try.
p.s. I also wanted to say that the song "Lies", which was a hit by the Thompson Twins back in the early 80s, is also redone by the band on this record. It is nothing short of amazing....
A Music Teacher's Opinion - Review written on January 05, 2006

I am a twenty-something music teacher and I think that the Click Five, and this CD, are GREAT! I am impressed with the clean, upbeat sound that they have reminiscent of one of their favorite bands, the Beatles. I can honestly say that each of the songs on this album are fun, energetic, and catchy. Great to listen to while driving, working, working out, or pretty much anything else you can think of!
I must say I resent the negative "opinions" that some reviewers have left by simply saying "they suck" without giving any reason for the comment or the lack of stars they have given. These people are obviously not educated, or at least not in the realm of music. I hope that you will not listen to these childish people's remarks and enjoy the CD for yourself! :-)

The whole power-pop scene has been lacking in recent years. I remember growing up in the late 70's/early 80's and people were dismissing all those new wave songs as fluff that will be forgotten in a couple years. Now many of those songs are considered classics (and some of the artists are getting the recognition they deserve -- albeit on VH1's Bands Reunited ). A good song is a good song. Half the stuff I hear being played these days has no melody, no killer guitar riffs, no harmonies, etc. Most of the stuff called "R&B" is hip-hop beats, samples, and a guest appearance by a rapper. To me, that's not R&B: James Brown, the O'Jays, the Spinners, etc. is R&B. I heard "Catch Your Wave" and could not get the song out of my head. I have since heard other songs from this album and they too are catchy and hooky (like any decent pop song should be). And when you think about it, what's wrong with a good pop song, regardless of who actually plays the instruments? The Monkees weren't musicians but people still buy their music. If you like power-pop like Big Star, the Raspberries, Cheap Trick, the Knack, Fountains of Wayne, and other "skinny-tie" bands, you'll like this. And you don't have to be under 18 to enjoy listening to it. And thumbs up to Eliot Easton of the Cars for adding his signature guitar licks to a few tracks!
I did dock them 1 star for blatantly stealing from Belinda Carlisle's "Heaven Is A Place on Earth" on "Catch My Wave". But hey, if there's only like 7 or 8 basic story plots, there's a limited number of melodies too.

After seeing the video for "Just the Girl" on Fuse this summer, I was immediately drawn to these boys. Yes, they are pretty and wear nice suits, and "Just the Girl" is a very catchy pop tune. I am in general a fan of rock and punk music, but do like the occasional pop band as well. After listening to some more of their songs however, I realized that this is a band which is not worth my time. The song "Pop Princess" is absolutely laughable. My first remark after hearing the song was that it easily could have been generated by a computer - it has all the key components which any pop hit must contain along with the sappy lyrics, but it doesn't come together to make compelling music at all. Angel to You (Devil to Me) is another song which made me and all of my friends laugh out loud. The outburts of "Suddenly!" which come from nowhere are very out of place and seem like they belong in a spoof of an ostentatious musical.
If you want an album which is overall easy on the ears, but absolutely lacking any content or credibility, go for the Click Five. Just don't expect too much.

The age of Boy Bands may have long passed, but these late bloomers are prepared to fill the vacuum left by their predecessors.
First single "Just The Girl" is a perky pop song tailor-made for radio play, and the rest of the album is pretty good too, albeit very light. Other good tracks are "Good Day", "I'll Take My Chances", "Friday Night" and the cover of "I Think We're Alone Now", best remembered by the `80s generation as Tiffany's song.
All nicely dressed in their matching suits, these boys from Boston are talented too, so it'll be interesting to see where they go from here. A good debut album from a promising young group.
