Had a little trouble at first getting the adapter to work. Seller was very helpful. Once I reversed the wire as he suggested, worked great.
Great when it works... and a possible fix for when it doesn't - Review written on July 05, 2008

I needed a new cassette adaptor to replace an old Belkin model that was making too much noise, so I got three of these-one for a Monsoon stereo in a Passat, one for a stereo in a 203 Caravan and one for a 13-year-old stereo in a boat. They worked great in the Caravan and boat, but the first one I tried only worked intermittently in the Passat the first day, and then stopped working altogether. I removed the tension wheel from inside the adaptor and it didn't fix the problem, but when I switched it with one of the other (non-modified) adaptors, the other one worked fine. I'm sure the problem is related to the auto-reverse feature of the Monsoon stereo, and am guessing that it's related to the amount of tension that the tension wheel is applying. There's a straight metal spring element that can be bent to adjust the amount of tension, for others who might find themselves in a similar situation.

After the CD player in my truck crapped out, I bought this product to connect up my Sansa Clip MP3 player. It works fine. It was a cheap and better alternative to the CD player.
Tape adapter works wonders ! - Review written on June 01, 2008

The Philips tape adapter I purchased is working great. I use it everyday to play music from my ipod through my suv's speakers. The sound quality is great, and I'm happy with the product. The only thing i've noticed that isn't perfect, is that if you turn the car speakers up close to all the way (I'm talking blow you out of the rig high) without any music playing, you can hear a slight "sssssss" sound. It only becomes present if you have the volume really high. If you play music with the ipod volume low, and the car volume high, you can hear a faint "ssssss" but it is very mild. If you turn the ipod up, and the car radio down, the "sssss" goes away. You can listen to your music way too loud, without hearing any extra sound with this product.
I love it.

I've used this with my iPod in my car a couple of times and it seems to work just fine. I had a similar adaptor and it kept ejecting from the tape deck which was a hassle. No such problem with this one. I don't have a great sound system in my car so I can't vouch the sound quality but I'm quite satisfied.

I'm on my fourth one of these in about 3 years, but I'm not complaining. I bought the first because the much more expensive Griffin FM transmitter I was using to listen to my iPod in the car stunk. This gives much better sound quality. Each of them has lasted for about 8-10 months. Two have developed shorts making one of the stereo channels inaudible, and the other's spindles just got too noisy to be tolerable. I'm a big fan of Amazon's prices in general, but I've found that this item has always been $3-4 cheaper at my local discount retailer that starts with W, even after sales tax and factoring in free super saver or Amazon Prime shipping.

Do the ones that cost twice as much sound twice as good, or last twice as long? I doubt it. This item is good value for money, for those of us who have a tape deck but no audio in port or iPod dock in our cars.

These cassette adapters usually won't last for more than a year. So buy a cheap one (this one is as good as any) and consider it the price you have to pay to enjoy your mp3 player in your car.

I received this as a present and use it to listen to my MP3 player in the car. It works wonderfully. Sounds great and plugs in easily to my player. I didn't have to move the wire, though, or I might not have rated it so high.

better than old tapes - Review written on February 08, 2008

It's a tape adapter, so in reality, it just did what I expected. However, the sound quality is excellent--better than an actual tape, which may be dependent on my stereo's cassette deck not the adapter--and FAR superior to any FM transmitter I have ever used. For a fraction of the price, save yourself the headache of moving your MP3 player and transmitter to every corner of the car for a signal and just buy a tape adapter.
Mine squeaks - Review written on January 24, 2008

Mine gives great sound but.....it squeaks in the deck unit. Sounds like Minnie Mouse is...well you know what I mean. I've taken it apart and lubed it but it still squeaks. It is not the deck...it does exactly the same in my van cassette player. I just ordered the Sony version...see if it works better.

I drive a 2001 Honda, and my CD player stopped working recently. I'm going to see if I can get it fixed, but in the meantime, I bought the cassette adapter to listen my portable CD player in the car. This one hasn't been affected by the auto-reverse function in my tape deck, and the sound quality is pretty clear. It works like magic compared to the other one I had. Before getting this one, I made the mistake of buying the EIS brand at Target. The construction was way cheap, the sound quality was scratchy, and it would only play for 30 seconds before the auto-reverse would switch on and spit the tape out.

This Philips brand miraculously avoids this altogether.
Decent sound but short wires - Review written on January 11, 2008

I use the adapter to boost sound on a DVD player in the rear of the car so I can play the sound through the car stereo. It has good (not great) sound quality, but the wire barely reaches from the back seat of the car to the tape deck. It would be fine for an MP3 player sitting in the passenger seat.
Easy and inexpensive solution MP3 Cassette Adapter - Review written on December 30, 2007

Wanting to use my MP3 in my car, I researched new radios with built in MP3 inputs and USB inputs, but found them too expensive for me. I then tried an FM transmitter, but it had poor sound and was prone to static. So I purchased the Phillips Adapter as a last resort and found it provided excellent sound qualities with no skipping or static--all for less than ten bucks. What a deal.

my only complaint is that changing the direction the cord comes out of the cassette is a pain cause u have to remove 2 screws. but for the cheap price i got i could not complain.

This adapter is totally worthless. I bought it to avoid replacing my factory head unit with a new deck (w/aux input), and I was very disappointed. I returned the adapter and replaced my head unit. Good decision.

I already have the Sony one, but I needed another for my husband's car, so I tried this one. This product sucks. In my Honda Pilot, it constantly switches from Side A to Side B every 2-3 minutes, so there are long pauses in between while I am listening to my ipod. I am going to buy another Sony one because that one works great.

I bought this 4 weeks ago to take on my vacation to go with my Garmin GPS. It worked great for this. I usually left the GPS connected to it. I liked this setup as I could easily adjust volume and also shutoff the audio directions when I didn't want to hear them. Bonus was that at night we played some DVDs on my laptop and I plugged the adapter into it's headphone jack. The RV' audio was much better than with the small laptop speakers.

Anyway, we were on the road for 3 weeks straight and It is working like a champ.

Good performance but poor durability - Review written on July 28, 2007

Rating: 3 out of 5

I bought this product about six months ago, and I have been generally satisfied with its performance; however, about a month ago it developed an audible squeak whenever it was operating, and recently it jammed completely so that when I tried to use it the cassette player would auto reverse a few times and finally spit it out. I took the cassette apart to clear the jam, but within a few minutes of use it had jammed again, and I finally gave up trying to repair it. I used the product practically every day in the time I owned it, so I can't really say I didn't get my $15 worth, but I'm still disappointed that it died so quickly.

This adapter works well with my Sanso MP3 player. Clear, if not flawless sound, and its easy to use. I leave it in my tape player so that I can just plug my Sanso into it when I get into my car and I'm off. I don't regret buying it.

Respek.

I have had no problems with this cassette adapter. I have read previous reviews that cited problems with background noise, but I found that if I turn the volume down on the radio and turn the volume up using the MP3 player that it reduces and/or eliminates the background noise. I much prefer this adapter over having to use an FM transmitter.

Do not buy this product! - Review written on December 21, 2006

Do not buy this product. I got this product as a cheap solution to play my Ipod in my car. I didn't want to spend $50-$80 on a Fm Transmitter, so I bought this instead. Worked fine for a few weeks. Ended up completely screwing up my cassette player. It would always click and pop out. Eventually my radio started not working as a result. This thing ended up shorting out my radio and nothing is functionable. Don't get this product for a cheap solution, you are much better off getting a docking FM transmitter that plugs through the cigarette lighter and charges your Ipod. Make sure you actually spend the money on a good FM Transmitter instead of going cheap and buying one of these things.

I ordered this item because it was the lowest priced of three remarkably similar devices (all had the same description and specs). It worked for about 2 weeks, and then quit. A friend with the same device suggested checking the wire connection inside the cassette, which had come loose. Since then it has come loose twice more, so I just don't use it anymore. When it worked, it worked fine, but it is at best an inexpensive and temporary solution.
