Grate is Great, but MISLABLED - Review written on August 24, 2006
Rating: 3 out of 5
The Coleman grate performs entirely as one would expect. However, the box is mislabled! It states the unit is STEEL when in fact it is CAST ALUMINUM! This is important because this grate I ordered from Amazon was a REPLACEMENT for one my son left on over high heat too long and it MELTED! The new one is identical to the original including the cast aluminum composition. Otherwise the grate is perfect, if a bit overpriced for what it is. Just be carful not to get it too hot!
Nonstick surface is great when cared for properly - Review written on June 10, 2006

These grill grates are very nice, but you have to treat them the same way you treat any piece of non-stick cookware. Rule #1: no metal implements. You have to use nylon or wood implements or you'll scratch the nonstick coating off. Rule #2: use plain sponges or abrasive pads that are non-stick safe only (usually the blue pads). SOS pads and other green pads can scour through metal and will definitely remove the non-stick coating.
After using my Road Trip for about a year, I'm beginning to see flaking of the non-stick coating. They still work great, but take a little more effort to completely clean. I'm probably going to try the cast iron grill grate next.

We have used these grates all year and love them. Easy clean-up -- can go right in the dishwasher (when we get back from camping!) The other reviewer needs to remember that the grates are non-stick, so SOS pads can be a little rough on them. Coleman does now make a cast iron grill grate for the Roadtrip grill. Maybe they need to get those instead.

The quality is a bit suspect, the powder coating on three of the 4 grates that I have can be removed while scrubbing with an SOS pad. I bought extra grates because these have a tendency to fail, in extreme heat, ie; if left on high with the lid closed for more than 8 minutes. Summary I wish the powder coating was of better quality, and also that the grates where more durable.
