Works well and light weight. It will throw snow 20 ft. or more straight ahead but only a few to either side. This aspect was noted in other reviews. It handles snow much deeper than specified if you go at it in multiple passes. Plastic impeller does not mar Trex decking.

I would love to review the item but it never arrived. I did not receive notification that it would not arrive, and when I contacted Amazon about it, all I got was a refund notification. I want the item, but am leary about using Ace via Amazon again. By the time it arrives (if at all), it will be in Spring when snow is not an issue. I only gave "one star" because "0 stars" was not an option.

i bought this snowthrower as a backup when both my gas driven
snowblowers were broken.
this machine is extremely light and can be easily carried around in any car-
It has alot of horsepower even though you have to push it
and it can rid of very deep snow very quickly
The disadvantages are that i keep tripping over the electric capable but
the again i can't complain when my gas snowblowers are in repair.

Fortunately, I have not had a great many chances to use my snow thrower. But the times I needed it, it performed beautifully. My plow guy leaves a big strip of snow around my car & the walk to my porch. I easily cleared it with no back breaking shoveling. Deeper snow needs 2 passes but that is fine. The adjustable vanes clear snow where you need it to go. It's lightweight and easily moved around on it's wheels. I would reccomend it to others.

I bought this to help me shovel a fairly small driveway. I used it a grand total of two times last year. The path of snow that this machine clears is very narrow, meaning that you have to go over the same area again and again. It also cannot handle much snow at one time and cannot throw the snow far at all. I really don't think it saved me any time or effort at all. It also broke down after just two uses (I think a belt broke). It's covered by warranty, but I'm not even going to bother getting it repaired. It was truly useless and a stupid purchase.

I concur with the generous reviews of most of my fellow consumers. This machine may take longer than a more powerful gas-powered machine, and sideways expulsion may not be optimal but having said that, I cleared 12" deep, crusty, week old snow from a 100' circular driveway and - unlike the monsters my neighbors use - this machine virtually squeegeed the surface clean. After sprinkling a little calcium chloride, I was the only house with visible blacktop in my Sturgeon Bay WI neighborhood. Cord management is a little irritating but when I consider that I don't have to buy gas, or change the oil, or sharpen blades, I can live with the hassle.

Bought this last year when my back went out after shoveling seven weeks of weekly storms. Woke up this morning with 7 inches of new heavy snow, first of the year. Dug the machine out of the garage, plugged it in, and went to work. After clearing two driveways, a long walk, my deck, and my neighbor's sidewalk, I can honestly say this thing is a fail-safe awesome machine. My only regrets is that I didn't buy it years ago.

I am a single, older female who has used Toro power shovels for many years. Due to health problems, I can no longer use the power shovel because of the lifting required. (It has no wheels). I ordered the Snow Fox because it rolls, it's lightweight, and small enough to tuck into the front hall.

We were just hit with a nice 6" snow, and I tried out my new toy. I LOVE IT! The wheels mean that I don't have to lift it, but it is light enough to lift into the house. It tilts easily to roll over obstacles. It has directional vanes to blow right, left or straight ahead. It has a cord retainer to keep the extension cord from disconnecting (a MAJOR annoyance with my old machine). And, the price was right!

When I first bought this last year, I got a chance to try it about three days later. Every thing good that every review has mentioned happened to me. It was quiet, powerful, easy to maneuver and sure beat a broom! Even one of the problems that some people let really bother them was easy to fix. I sure don't expect every person to be a "handy person", but getting the machine to throw snow to the side was not hard to fix. I made it throw about 45 degrees or a little less to either side and it works great. I liked the machine before I fixed that, but time on my hands... I've observed a couple of my neighbors using them before the winter was over. I would recommend it to anyone that likes a trouble free machine that makes some of the soreness go away!

I bought this to use on my deck, which tends to collect huge drifts in our major Maine winter storms. I didn't want a big, gas-powered snowthrower; I've owned one before, and decided I'd much rather pay a neighbor to plow the driveway. I just wanted something to save my back from having to move the same snow three times or more, in order to get it all the way from the part of the deck nearest the house's exterior wall onto the ground.

As I expected, having used a big snowthrower in the past, this little fellow will handle a drift only in increments. That's fine. I can either go out and clear it once for every four-inch installment of snowfall, or I can take off the whole drift by doing it in layers. If it clogs, I just hold it up (in one hand, it's so light!) and tap it against the deck. Out comes the clog, and I'm back in business.

The ability to change the throw direction, using a chute just like on a big machine, makes this far superior to a so-called power shovel. I need the wheels. I cannot hold a power shovel up the requisite couple of inches; even though the unit may be light enough to carry, holding anything suspended that way absolutely kills my back.

The SnowFox is just what I needed. Using it is even (sort of) fun!

I wasn't sure what to expect with this, but I was very happy. It worked in a Wisconsin blizzard! It did go kind of slow with bigger snow piles, and it was a little clumsy with the extension cords, and it throws to the front much better than the sides, but much easier than shoveling. One of the most useful things I have bought in recent memory. This is a great product, and when you take into account its price, its excellent.

I bought this for my Husband who recieved it while I was at work. It was broken in 20 minutes. He reports a "burned belt". I'm sure he didn't read the directions on using it and I'm sure that 3 days after the record snowfall that the snow was heavier than fluffy..Noplace here sells a "belt"--so I just threw away $200.00 instead of snow. While I can't entirely blame your product since I wasn't here to witness it beening used correctly as my Husband claims--I can't say much about the durability of your product.

This product is good for only lighter snow (weight and depth). It can not throw snow to either side very far, or high enough to keep it from falling back into its own path. As mentioned in other reviews, the side dicharge adjustment is limited(45 degrees left or right). It can however, throw "light" snow a good distance(20FT approx.) straight ahead. The unit is light weight and the electric motor is quiet running. If I had to do it over again, I would have selected a more powerful snow thrower that could handle heavier snow.

The UPS man delivered this during a snowstorm. What a lifesaver. I have a large driveway and this cleared the entire thing, and saved my back in the process. When angled to either side, it has low throwing capacity. But when facing forward, it tossed the snow clear across the driveway and out of the way. It was ice and snow, and it still had no problem clearing the way.

I got a great bargain! I caught a sale and paid well below what this is going for now. I am on a limited budget, a single parent with a bad back.
Even if I could afford a heavier machine, moving it would likely prove too difficult for me.

Shoveling is just too much for me. While it is clear that during heavier snows I will have to go out every 6", that's ok with me. I usually do that with the shovel anyway because shoveling 30" at one time is so hard for me.

It took me couple of times using it to get the knack of dealing with the cord, but I have my system now, and it goes quick. Also, I learned to cover my face because unless it's really still, I'm pretty covered with snow by the time I'm done. I prefer to use it blowing straight out because it seems to have more power that way. This also requires some finess so that you aren't always blowing the snow where you've just cleared. It feels to me like it's faster than shoveling, but I honestly don't time it. I can tell you though, that I'm NOT exhausted when I'm done, and my back doesn't hurt. This is so light!! I would compare it to vacuming the house.

I was also able to clear some higher drifts (over 2') by picking it up using it to scoop out snow.

Don't mistake this for a heavy duty snow blower, you'll be disappointed. But keeping in mind that it is low cost, light weight, and rated to clear 6", I would say this is a great labor saving device.

I have used it twice this year.
I have, and I'm guessing based on how much extension cord I used, an 80 foot driveway partial gravel and partial cement. Two cement porches with 2 and 3 steps. It will work down to the ground. With the right angle I never throw any rocks from the gravel. On the cement it works to the ground.
Works on wet or dry snow if it is over 6" plan to go over twice. I dunno how much time it saves but it surely saves on the back ache I used to get after shoveling. Like 100 fold better it isn't even close. I am lazy and this is a lazy mans shovel.
It blows 20" or more forward and 3-6' to either left or right. The only improvement would be more angels to shoot then just the three. If I could shoot it just a little to either side instead of all the way right or left it would be even better than it is. That is my only complant if you even wanna call it that.
I don't even own a shovel. With this I never will either.

I'm in Denver, and we've had six weekends in a row with snow. I've used this blower on two of those snows, and it's done a great job!

It arrived without the box being mangled, as I've read other people having had happen. All I had to do was remove the packing bits and unfold the handle, and it was ready to go. And, as I've read on other reviews, the blower doesn't shoot far when the vanes are turned sideways, but I will do a mod to the mechanism to allow for less of a turn. It is very light and just the right width to clean my driveway, which is two narrow concrete strips instead of a full span.

It's also quiet! I can run it without waking the entire neighborhood.

Great buy!

Given the limitations of a single stage snowblower coupled with an electric motor I feel that the Snow Fox performs as well as can be expected.
On the plus side, it is simple to set up, fairly light to handle, has some directional control, and is always ready as long as there is electrical power available. It is also largely plastic so that it is gentle on my deck surface.
On the down side, it is small, which means that a heavy snowfall or a large area to clear will take an extended work session. I have not had occasion to test it on wet snow yet and I am not confident that it will have the power to cope with that problem.
All in all I am satisfied that it will perform as expected and will fill my need for a device to clear my home's deck.

It's ashame cause it seemed like a good product the 1st use. Too bad. Very disappointing!!!!!

I purchased the MTD Snowfox for light amounts of snow. It works well handling several inches of snow. I have owned it for one season, and had to order parts from MTD Parts Direct - a new "scraper bar" $24, and new "auger" $46, and $15 for shipping.

Expect to order a replacement scraper bar rather soon as the soft plastic wears down easily on cement. The unit will begin to leave a thin layer of snow as it passes over the ground. If you let this go too long, you will wear down the auger as well, limiting effective snowthrowing and causing vibration. It will take about 1/2 hour and basic tools to replace both.

Purchased through Amazon several seasons ago. Pretty much meets the manufacturer's claims regarding performance. Gave it away when we left snow country. Our needs are different now that we're back in snow country, so I purchased a Toro 1800 Power Curve. Several observations on the Snow Fox:

-Throws snow a HUGE distance when blowing straight ahead. However, will barely move snow out of the way when discharging to left or right.
-Light and maneuverable, handles make it easy to pick-up to clear steps and such
-Like all throwers where the scraper is designed to always contact the ground, this model does not like uneven surfaces such as tilted concrete slabs or gravel. It will catch on the edges and stop moving forward or the impeller will strike the ground.
-Managed to crack the impeller by striking a stone or something and jamming it against the housing. Crack did not reduce performance and made machine look more menacing.
-Unit shipped fully assembled. Plusses and minuses here ... sure you don't have to put it together, but the carton is huge and light and poorly braced inside. My carton arrived crushed. Handles on thrower were bent, but straightened easily when I took 'em across my knee.
-Hangs on the pegboard nicely out of the way.
-Due to resistance losses you are limited to 150 feet of power cord length.

Finally, remember the old adage ... 'When all else fails, read the instructions'

Rare instance of a product that performs better than advertised. I used it in a 6 to 8 inch snowfall and it worked well. For the heaviest snow (beyond nominal capacity), it works best if you take a half-width cut or tilt it up so you are taking the top part of the snow first. It also works best in heavy snow when you blow the snow out straight-ahead -- it blows further and cuts best.

MTD purchased Troy-Bilt a few years back and has decided they have no interest in supporting the dealer network or customers who bought PRE-MTD Troy-Bilt equipment. Specifically the Troy-Bilt 42012 Snow Thrower. They make no recommended engine replacement, offer no spec for the engine refuse to even attempt to work with Tecumseh on a recommended replacement. In short, all dealers are unsupported as are the customers. What they are interested in is taking the Troy-Bilt name and that is it. A reputable company (the REAL Troy-Bilt) would have worked with the dealer (their dealer who originally sold the machine) to find a replacement then document it to their entire dealer network so it would become a non-issue. Troy-bilt chose not to do this. I would think twice if I am a consumer or dealer on how MTD, brands also Club Cadet, Yardman, Bolens, McColloch, and MTD treat their dealers and past customers. If you looking to purchase something the manufacture will stand behind, don't purchase this. To MTD it is disposable and so are their customers. Hope this helps.

I have used this machine just once. We had an early winter snow storm of about 3 inches. I have a small property so I was done in no time. No strain on my back, perfect! The plow trucks came around and plowed snow back into my driveway and the Snow Fox ate that up like a kid eats candy. No problem. This machine clears the snow right down to the concrete. I thought it might leave a thin layer of snow or ice on the ground. But it scrapes ALL of the snow up and throws it. The only problem I have with it is the cord outlet receptacle. The small circular cord receptacle would not allow the 50 foot Coleman cold weather extension cord fit so I had to use another extension cord. I don't think the other extension cord was the correct power rating but it worked anyway. So now I have to return the Coleman cord back to Amazon.com. That's the reason for the 4 stars, otherwise I would have given it 5 stars.

As a single woman with a corner lot, I just used this machine today and was very pleased. Granted I only used it to clear about 2 inches of snow, but where it would normally take me well over an hour to clear the entire corner sidewalks, plus two car driveway, plus walk to the front door, etc. it took me about 25 minutes. It's kind of like an electric shovel, only you don't have to push really hard, or bother lifting all of the snow out of the way. I've always used a manual shovel, so this machine was really helpful to me.

I just used it for the first time on about 3 inches of snow and it works very well. I'm a single female and I appreciate that it's light weight and easy to maneuver. However the cord does get in the way, but it's a lot better then manually shoveling the snow. I have a 2 car driveway and it threw the snow far enough to the side that it landed on the grass. I do wish that it had a wider clearing path but it did the job and for the price it's well worth it.
I would definitely recommend the Snow Fox to those who want a light weight, easy to use snow thrower to clear smaller areas.

We use our Snow Fox here in Breckenridge, Colorado. We don't have a lot to shovel, but due to our average snowfall, it still gets tiresome. Now, I look forward to shovelling.

I looked at the Toro, but opted to spend a little more for the MTD Snow Fox. I wish it had a little more powerful motor. The handle should be adjustable for people taller than Danny DeVito. I have to stoop to use it. Also, the low angle of the handle makes getting into tight places a challenge. That's my main disappointment, but it isn't anything that would discourage me from recommending it.

The Fox comes with a three position chute for directing the thrown snow. Here's where a more powerful motor would really improve the machine. In either of the angled positions (straight ahead, 45 degrees to the right or left) the snow dribbles out of the machine. This is inspite of the fact that in the straight position the snow shoots out 20 feet.

I took the cover off of mine and used my Dremel to add an extra position for the chutes. Now, my blower is a 5 position model. All I need now is to swap in a 5 hp motor (c;

I have a short driveway and about 60 feet of sidewalk, so i couldn't justify spending $600 or more on a gas-driven beast of a snowblower. I got this machine after our first snow in late December. Since the east coast has been hogging all the snow this winter, I hadn't had a chance to use it here in South Dakota (usually the harsh winter capital of the nation) until mid-February. Now that I have, though, I'm very pleased.

As mentioned by others, throwing snow to the side only moves it about six feet. This worked fine for my sidewalks (the 12-inch cut let me get the whole sidewalk in three furrows, which took about five minutes).

A pointer for anyone clearing a small amount of snow: I worked out a decent system for the driveway where i start down the middle and throw snow a few feet to each side as I work my way to the edges. By the time I get to the edges, I'm throwing the accumulated pile off onto the grass. This clears the driveway rather well, though obviously it wouldn't be as useful in 20 to 30 inches of snow as some other people have seen this winter.

Power cord management is the only real downside to this device. I find myself spending a pretty good amount of time tossing the cord out of my way as i go and down the driveway. It's a minor annoyance that i still hope to find a solution for.

In all, i can now clear my drive and sidewalk in 20 minutes or so rather than the 45 to 60 minutes it took me by shovel. it also fits neatly in my crowded garage. A great little product.

We got over 30 inches of snow in Boston this week so I had Amazon Fed Ex me this machine and couldn't be happier. Living in the city I don't have the room or need for a "big" snow thrower and the Snow Fox was the perfect compromise. With the blades pointed straight forward the Snow Fox easily throws the snow over 20 feet and as others have written, when you set the blades to the left or right the range decreases to 4-6 feet. The Fox has a short handle in addition to the "push handle" which is really useful for very deep snow. You can hold the machine from the short handle because its so light and cut thru drifts pretty effectively. No assembly is required unless you consider tightening the handle to be "assembly." I''m a bit of a tool junkie and the Snow Fox is a great value for someone that doesn't aspire to become a full time landscaper/snow plower. One additional point, the company that makes the Snow Fox has a great story worth mentioning. I've attached the "History" from their website. take a chance on this machine, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised...

I bought this back in Aug 2004 and it patiently waited in my garage... today, in the northeast, we are getting 20" or so... I didn't wait - when 6" was on the ground I went out and used this machine for the first time. I figured out within 10 mins that if you want the machine to throw the snow anywhere the blades need to be aimed straight ahead, when you adjust it left or right it really cuts down on the distance... that being said, I decided to use this machine side to side on my driveway... because when I was in the middle using the left or right angle, it couldn't get the snow passed the driveway and onto the grass area. But, when it is aimed straight ahead - no problems! Works pretty well.
