I cam across this cd by accident. I am only 24 so I'm really not familiar with rush, but if Coheed is like them I will look into it. But yeah, I was talking to a friend about Linkin Park of all unrlated things, and a few other random bands, and he's all like you should hear these guys, and I immediately fell in love. The music is so well written, with such catchy hooks, the vocals are awesome. I don't have yet but really need their other two albums and am greatly anticipating the next two. And after fallign in love with the music I looked them up on wikipedia, and to my surprise found the coolest info ever, The Cd's are merely a back up for a graphic novel that Claudio has been writing, some bits and peices have been previously published nothing isd in print currently Claudio want to get it all published cronolocically and wants it done right. It is a very interesting Sci-Fi story, that i greatly anticipate reading. so In short this is what you get when Some SCi-Fi Anime nerds know how to play instruments.

This album is incredible. Hands down one of the best albums I own. Coheed and Cambria have once again created a lyrical and musical masterpiece. What I love most about this album is how all the songs are all so epic. Coheed's great lyrics and fantastic guitar work is unparalleled. Each song progresses to new heights and never falls. Claudio's voice is also amazing. This album would not be have as good without his voice. I can't tell you which tracks are the best because they are all incredible. If you are a fan of rock or just love great music, buy this album.

This album should be called "The Best of Coheed and Cambria". The opening track is a refined version of the opener from SSTB, and it just gets better from there. Title track gets the show going quickly, with the two radio singles sprinkled into the "storyline" that is C&C's trademark. Personal favorite is Camper Velorium III. Where else can you here the line "Die white girls, bye bye world."?

Coheed and Cambria... I've listened to quite a number of different bands in the last 2 years, but there are really only two that I still listen to routinely: Coheed and Cambria and Weezer.

I think I like Coheed better because of their prog tendencies. Especially The Light and The Glass and The Camper Velorium III (the latter isn't very prog, though).

This band's a really good transition from the pop-punk most people listen to to the prog that really blows the mind. They don't seem to do a lot of weird time signatures like Dream Theater or Genesis, but the ongoing story and extended tracks make them prog. Halfway.

Just, please, don't call them emo or punk. For my sanity.

It's a darn shame that the average rating for this item is four and a half stars, because anyone with respect for music would rate it one or at least two. Claudio has no talent with songwriting, singing, or with his appearance for that matter because he has a really stupid-looking beard. Whoever told Claudio has talent as a singer is a dolt. IT takes nothing more than ears and a cerebrum to tell that he sounds like a girl, and for that matter a girl who has no talent at singing. But of course the problem with this awful band extends beyond their singer, the music is also entirely worthless. No skill with guitars whatsoever. Also, whether you like it or not this is emo, and the majority of emo is awful. I have no idea why this band gets so much respect while sounding worse than every other emo band out there. This horrible band needs to quit know, they got lucky that people who like bad singers came their way. Lame-o

I stumbled upon "A Favor House Atlantic" on a friend's iPod about 6 months ago, and I've been listening to 3 Co&Ca CD's ever since. This one is, by far, my favorite.

One thing to note, this band had a backwards effect on me. I originally enjoyed the poppier songs, but after listening to the CD for quite some time - I find the most rounded and musically inspiring (I'm talking goose bumps, people) - are the darker songs that you will (more than likely) skip over when you first listen to the CD. Now I rarely listen to the poppy stuff, and go straight for the meat of album.

It is important to note that the album is the telling of a story about the sci-fi (comic) world created by the band's lead singer, Claudio Sanchez. Each song is told either through the eyes of one person in the comic, or through the eyes of 2-3 people. There are plenty of references online to help you understand what some of the cryptic lyrics are referring to. Trust me, none of them will dissapoint. As you develop an appreciation for the story, this will only amplify your appreciation for the music. It's amazing how gifted these musicians are.

The most mind-blowing (mind-blowingest?) tracks, IMHO:
The Crowing - a dark song depicting the struggle of Ambelina, a member of the Prize, that has been sent (forced by the Prize) to watch over the lead (who also happens to be named Claudio) in our comic story.
The Entire Camper Velourium Trilogy, but if i had to pick my favorite, it would be No. 2: Backend of Forever - This song is by far my favorite Co&Ca song. The story behind the song is quite interesting, as well. It will not dissapoint.
The Light & The Glass: Slow to heavy to slow, a Co&Ca classic.

The only caveat is that Claudio's Geddy Lee-pitch voice can be a deterent for many, but you will get used it very quickly and learn to appreciate the musical genius of this bad. It takes a little bit to get used to Claudio's voice, but believe me - this album will grow on you and ultimately be one of your favorites.

Coheed & Cambria, made a giant leap from their first LP. One big difference is Claudio's vocals. They have grown deeper on this album (quite a blessing) and the songs are filled with wonderful guitar ballads (In Keeping the Secrets of Silent Earth: 3, Cuts Marked In the March of Men, The Crowing). Between the awesome guitar playing, the lyrics are definitly something to pay attention to (for ex. "I'll do anything for you...I'll cut the throats of babies...), yeah these songs can be violent and beautiful at the same time. The Light & The Glass, is also another beautiful song (which includes the line "Good Apollo, I'll be Burning Star IV", referencing the title of their next album). If you have never heard of this band, well try this cd. You will be hooked. Fans of the first cd, well you probably already have this.

Since when was it good music for a guy who sounds like a girl to blurt out expletives overtop of lame chord progressions? Never! This album seems to be the band's most respected work, though if you ask me they deserve no respect. The brains of all these five star reviewers have apparently been numbed musically, because surely no-one in an upright American society would be fooled into thinking this so-called "Music" is actually good for the ears. Wrong-o! This album, right here, is the worst CD I have ever heard. I promise you that is no spur of the moment exaggeration, it's just so awful. This band needs to lose its popularity NOW. They're just like New Found Glory and Rush; ruined by the singer. But in this case, the music wouldn't have been any good with another singer even; everything that could go wrong has.
If you want GOOD music, ya ain't gonna find it here! I highly recommend Muse, Fatboy Slim, Chemical Brothers, and Oasis, but that's just me. This CD is so horrible; I could go on forever about its inferiority in the music world but the music speaks for itself. Sheesh does it suck. 'Tis all 4 now.

In the realm of concept albums and stories told through music, Coheed and Cambria are Kings. They have crafted an awesome and original and inspiring storyline that is told through five albums. A pentology is what they call that. Parts two, three and the first part of four have been released. In keeping secrets of silent earth:3 is the third chapter in their great story of the coming appocalypse. And what a chapter this is! Rife with battles, love, loss and a crazy man in love with his sniper rifle! Musically, this album is top notch, providing heavy and soft passages and wonderful transitions between them. Musically, Coheed and Cambria deliver a solid, rockin album that is sure to infect your head for many moons to come. Lyrically, Coheed and Cambria entrance your soul and will have you humming and singing and deciphering the lyrics forever! The singers voice is high pitched and that turns many people off of Coheed and Cambria. But once you get passed that and accept that fact, you realize that the singer is an amazing and beautiful and talented singer.
In keeping secrets of silent earth:3 there are many gems, many memorable moments and awesome songs that will stain your brain. I'm not going to go into detail of the song names or anything like that, I would just recommend you pick this album up now

Okay... I have owned this cd for a minute sense the year it was released... but anyway i purchased this cd only knowing a little about co & ca hearing one song off their first cd called "time consumer" and i liked that and also hearing about a show they played localy and that they were good. But i had no idea what i was in for when i bought this cd on a whim after reading an interview with their bassist in one of my bass player mag's. And let me tell ya your not the same after coheed they pull you in and take you over. But at first listen you are not sure sounds pretty good... got a nice epic vibe. By the time you are at the end of what you think is the last track the weird outro thing here they come with what would become to me atleast the very imfomus 2113. and if you know that one song time consumer from second stage and you are familiar with the story you are stunned you dont know what just happend the last 45 mins or hour were a blur and then you feel compelled to put it back in. ITs all over after that my friends. Coheed is a band you cant put in a genre or even try to explain to anyone it inspires you drags you in and you feel awesome. Simply must give it a chance forget about what they say about the vocals or if there emo which they are a farcry from that, you will end up loving the vocals and the amazing beautiful music Coheed and cambria create. The most intreaging music i have ever listened to simply captivating. this album must be purchased

Coheed and Cambria is an amazingly unique and inspiring band. The only reason that they are not played on the radio constantly is because most of their songs are not repetative, and their music is not poppy and crowd pleasing to the standard attention deficit disorder audience. You may have to listen to each song a couple times to truly realize how incredible they all are. To those who make fun of the songs for their strange titles or lyrics, maybe do a little research. The concept albums have a great story to them. All three of their albums are fantastic, with this one being my favorite. Also, the Stardust DVD is one of the best live performances I have ever seen, period. You may not understand how talented Claudio is until you see him play an accoustic version of the song "The Light and The Glass" at the end of the DVD. I am not going to try and classify their music because there is no need. If you like good music, you will like Coheed and Cambria. Buy this album before the rest of the world realizes how good they are.

Even if the vocals isn`t better than 'Good Apollo' or 'SSTB',even if the guitars, drums, base isn`t better than 'good apollo', this is still the best album ever.I dont know what makes it this good, it just is! Sometimes I think these guys come from another planet.

I discovered Coheed and Cambria mostly by accident last spring. The first Coheed song I heard was "Three Evils", then "The Crowing" a few weeks later. Then I bought both this CD and "Second Stage Turbine Blade" (which I also love). I almost instantly became obsessed with it and just wanted to listen to it constantly. I saw them in concert twice last year and met the band both times, and they're all great guys. I haven't loved a band this much since The Cure in the late 80s and early 90s. Happy, sad, contemplative or angry, this music always fits my mood.

In short, this CD brought back the love of "alternative" music I had back in high school, and encouraged me to check out other new bands as well. Coheed & Cambria may have mostly teenaged fans, but I think a lot of us over 30 could get into them as well. Their lyrics are well-written and intelligent, the music is complex and displays a great deal of talent. They're one of the most unique bands I've ever heard. Yes, Claudio's voice is kind of high, and for some people that's a bad thing. At first I wasn't sure what I thought of it, but after only a few listens I really loved it. If you're one of those people, like I was, who didn't think much good music had been made since the mid-90s, this CD will change your mind. And even if you're not that picky, this is still a great CD to check out. The lyrics and music are absolutely amazing and original.

1. The Ring In Return

A pretty impressive opener, very cool dialogue. It takes a pretty large selection of the story and gives you an obvious tip to the storyline. I love the string section on this one, it's almost cuts right into your ears.

2. In Keeping Secrets Of Silent Earth: 3

One of the best songs on the album, pretty stunning vocals from Claudio and the choir singing at the end. It's around 8 minutes and epic in it's entirety, this one also cueing the fans of the carnivorous battle approaching.

3. Cuts Marked In The March Of Men

Singeing rhythm and simple song, it's pretty easygoing, just kind of a relaxing moment.

4. Three Evils (Embodied In Love And Shadow)

Another favorite of mine, hard song, and some cool vocals.

5. The Crowing

Amounts to one of the stranger songs off the album, metal influenced. It breaks out with a bloodcurdling scream!

6. Blood Red Summer

Great "sing-along" song, nicely picked single.

7. The Camper Velourium I: Faint Of Hearts

I don't like this song very much, it's very repetitive and dimmed down, lyrics are kind of lame too.

8. The Camper Velourium II: Backend Of Forever

Very smeary time measures, another hint to the fans.

9. The Camper Velourium III: Al The Killer

This song should be considered a prelude to "A Favor House Atlantic", thematically at least. It's a great song and I just wish the whole album could have a sound near this one.

10. A Favor House Atlantic

Pretty much the sequel to the song above (storyline atleast), was picked out as a single, great song.

11. The Light & The Glass

Extremely emotional choir and string ensemble, this song is brilliant, 9 minutes, conservative energy, and hard-hitting.

[HIDDEN TRACK} 21:13

Another 9 minute song, you'll have to buy the album to get an opinion off this one.

Some people have a false impression of Coheed and Cambria. They think it's just a silly pop band with a singer that sings too high, and if every song on In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: 3 was like the two singles, "A Favor House Atlantic" and "Blood Red Summer", they'd be right. They're both simple pop-punk and not that substantial. But just listening to the lyrics of these songs reveals the other side of this band, the one that writes sweeping, nine minute epics about science fiction stories. It takes a unique vocalist to sing things like "Pull the trigger and the nightmare stops" the same way another person might sing "I will love you forever".

Overall, I'd say this album is more interesting than The Second Stage Turbine Blade. That record had solid progressive punk, but not much of it really stood out. Coheed and Cambria does a much better job on this effort of making the songs unique and memorable. The result has a few pretty disposable songs (namely the singles), but a few really great ones too. The cool introduction "The Ring in Return" reprises the lullaby from the last album before leading in to my favorite song by the band to date, the title track. It's a huge, soaring, monster of a song with great musicianship and great sing-a-long chorus and bridge. Really very enjoyable stuff.

The next couple songs are pretty decent punk, but the next highlight for me is "The Crowing", which begins with the character of Claudio screaming in agony at the news his parents have been killed and jumps into the song proper, which is solid. My favorite part is the bridge, with a very catchy guitar hook, and it leads into one of the band's signature, infectious vocal repetitions. Sandwiched between the two singles are the three "Camper Velourium" tracks, which tell the story of Al the Killer. They're a little more progressive and interesting than standard genre fare, and I particularly like the third one, which features some demonic sounding vocals (a HUGE change for the band) and music and a dark chorus that contrasts with the regular Coheed voice singing it. The last song, "The Light & the Glass" is an enjoyable, slower, fairly long ballad, and it's followed by "2113" another very progressive and interesting hidden track. This whole album is a pretty different style from the band's previous, and I personally think it's a change for the better.

Having all CO&CA albums, I have always loved them since I was 10, plus, I have seen a couple live performances. CO&CA is one of the best Punk-emo bands.

1. The Ring In Return: N/A: Just an Intro. Kinda sounds like of something in THE RING.

2. (album title): 9/10: A great Punk-ish song.

3. Cuts Marked In March Of Men: 10/10: I love this song. I listen to it obsessively on my MP3.

4. 3 Evils: 10/10: Very great song. Very punk-ish.Another song I listen to obsessively. I kind of laugh when I read the part in the booklet that says "These lyrics are part of a story and are not to be taken literally."

5. The Crowing: 7/10: Not great, but still very good.

6. Blood Red Summer: 9/10: One of the best songs of the album.

7. TCV: 10/10: Love this song, kinda 70's style, If you ask me.

8: TCV2: 1010: Best song on the album. One thing- What's with that creepy piano at the end? BTW, I made an FF7 video for this song. The credits roll at the creepy piano part at the end.

9. TCV3: 10/10: Creepy Song, great lyrics.

10. The Favour House Atlantic: 9/10: Another great song with a creepy ending.

11: Light And The Glass: 6/10: Not really great, but I still like it.

12-22: N/A: just silence.

23: Hidden Track: 10/10: Awesome ending that left me wanting more.

So go buy this if you like punk!

INTRO: This CD (Along with the others) tells a story. The album is the third part (but second album released) of the ongoing saga of the Keywork. The lead singer is Claudio Sanchez, who has a strange but cool voice.

SONG LIST:

1. The Ring in Return: This is a music piece that begins with a ringing of a phone, then an instrumental.

2. In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: 3: A really great song with some awesome guitar playing. Great vocals.

3. Cuts Marked in the March of Men: Good song.

4. Three Evils (Embodied in Love and Shadow): Another good song. I like that the lyric booklet says, "The lyrics are part of a story and are not to be taken intentionally."

5. The Crowing: Another awesome song with a jungle-like beginning and great lyrics.

6. Blood Red Summer: A catchy song with some nice guitars and vocals.

7. The Velourium Camper I: Faint of Hearts: The CD says "Camper Velourim", but this is the correct name. Another great, strange song.

8. The Velourium Camper II: Backend of Forever: Great song.

9. The Velourium Camper III: Al the Killer: Great vocals, creepy lyrics, and awesome music!

10. A Favor House Atlantic: I love this song. But what's with the freaky end part? It sounds like something off The Ring.

11. The Light & The Glass: An awesome, creepy slow-moving song. Beautiful.

12-22. A Lot of Nothing: These are silent.

23. 21:23: A hidden track, and one of the best and longest songs. Great guitars and lyrics.

OVERALL: If you love Rock, this is a must have.

Oh, god. It really irritates me when people call this band and My Chemical Romance emo, because neither of them are. My Chemical Romance is a gothic pop-rock band, and Coheed And Cambria is just straight up progressive rock. I own all three of their albums, and I can't find any hints of them being 'emo'. Oh, and since when are these guys posers? They don't even consider themselves a punk band at ALL, and have said that MULTIPLE times, so they aren't posing as ANYTHING. Anywayyyy...

This is a pretty strong second (Um, well actually, third) chapter in their little story, and I'm still trying to figure out the whole thing. But, of course, that shows intelligence in their song writing. Oh, and some of the guitar on here is pretty awesome, too. Very catchy, good stuff. Songs like 'Blood Red Summer' and 'Three Evils' are amazing, of course. I think those are my two favorite songs ever by them, besides 'Ten Speed (Of God's Blood and Burial)' off of their newest one and 'Devil In Jersey City' off of their last. Anyway, this review sucks. So, I'll just end it by saying, if you can handle Geddy Lee's voice in Rush, then you'll probably like this.

This is the best Coheed and Cambria CD ever. I have listened to this much more than their other 2 CDs, which are also good but dont compare to this one. I bought this CD like 2 years ago before I really knew who these guys were. I only bought it because I live in Cambria County and I thought, hey a band with the name Cambria in it so I got it. After the first listen I really didnt even know what I just listened to and I thought that it was something that definately needs a few more listens. By the third listen I was hooked, I couldnt stop listening to this CD for months, It is just such an epic album. THen people started to know the band because of their video for A Favor House Atlantic then they grew enormously in popularity soon enough. But I will always be happy knowing I am an original Coheed fan before they were known by everybody. Claudio gets a lot of criticism for his "girly" voice, but I have grown used to it and I enjoy it. ALso, I must mention the song "21:13", which is the hidden track number 23, I absolutley love this song. The guitars are just so very well executed and are beautiful. Even though I dont follow the story line or pay much attention to it, I am still a huge fan of CO&CA for their great music.
I saw these guys live and it was the greatest experience ever, they play a great mixture of songs from all three of thier albums and it is awesome to be singing all the songs along with Claudio and the rest of the audience.

Best songs: In Keeping Secrets, The Crowing, all 3 Velourium Campers, The Light and the Glass, and 21:13.

I highly recommend this if you are just getting into the band and only own Appolo or if you want to just hear what these guys are like, just listen to a song like In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth and tell me that isnt brilliant.

Coheed singles belie their musical talent - Review written on February 28, 2006

Like some of the other reviewers, I wasn't a huge Coheed and Cambria fan in the beginning, and I believe this is mostly because their singles (most notably "A Favor House Atlantic") don't really do the band justice, though I think the same problem would occur with any song taken individually. Perhaps some would call this a weakness that the songs are more complete when taken as a part of the whole, but I think this is merely a testament to the prog rock roots that stablize what has now become a massive C&C movement. I received IKSOSE3 randomly from a friend just last year, and despite the fact that I hadn't been hugely impressed with AFHA, I was immediately taken with the vast range of music collected on this one album. Each song has it's own tone, and though Claudio Sanchez's voice takes some getting used to, this is easily overcome after just one or two full listenings. I was amazed by the intricacies of the music as a whole - the tempo and time signiture changes that blend beautifully with the guitars to create an amazing sound. The real point is that you need to experience the entire album to really appreciate C&C.

I actually only give this album 4.5 stars - mostly because of the obnoxious sqealing pig sound at the end of Three Evils. Just kidding - kind of. Really, I don't want to give it a full five stars simply because I think they are capable of so much more. And for those who are confused about the genre labels - why put so much stock in labels? If you really need a label, call it prog rock. That's at least close.

Guess what the kid voice provided by the lead singer Claudio Sanchez is part of the story which goes from its first album. This is that way because the story is about a boy in fact. And if you listen to the Third Cd you'll see the change. In every cd the voice grow more mature. Coheed and Cambria didn't grew on me from the first time. I just thought I could give them a tried and guess what, now I'm a super huge fan. So get into the feeling of the music and their lyrics.

My favorite songs from this album are:

All!!!

What is this music? I actually don't even give this one star. I mean the lead singer's voice sometimes sounds like a child's. It's weird. A lot of times you can't even understand what he's saying. This is definetly the weirdest band I've ever heard. If you want good rock stick to the All-American Rejects they're really good and have great vocals, they're so much better than this band. This band is just plain weird.

This album is so amazing, I don't know where to start. Coheed revolutionized music, I mean, there is not much like them. They are so unique, I just can't get over it. Their albums all tell an ongoing story. The songs are long at times but change so frequently they keep you latched on for more. This band slowly became on my top 5 bands list! Def. go out and see for yourself how amzing it is!!!

I honestly think that this is one of the best rock albums you can possibly listen to. The tracks are so diverse, from upbeat rock, to fearful yet awesome tunes, to the mystical and gripping beginning and end. The transitions made between the music, as well as the use of story elements such as voices and sounds seamlessly interwoven make this album both an awesome story and an awesome listen.

The band itself is dripping with talent. The melodies and instrumentals as well as the vocals are some of the most original in rock. The actual lyrics are also deep and interesting because they narrate a larger epic story. The band also displays capability of capturing complex melodies in a seemingly simply fashion in songs such as 'The Crowing'. The sheer skill of the guitarists is apparant, as with the amazingly varied playing in songs like 'The Velorium Camper I'. There is a great mix of calm, upbeat, somber, and even angry tunes. The vocals sound like few other rockbands, mad props to Claudio.

If you're a fan of deep and interesting music that isn't difficult to appreciate, and a variety as well as progression in sound, you'll love Cohhed and Cambria's 'In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: 3'. My personal favorites were 'Three Evils (Embodied in Love and Shadow)' and 'Favor House Atlantic'. Don't be fooled by any titles, either. This band has a talent for making the darkest sounding titles and lyrics with extremely upbeat and catchy tunes. As others have said, it is impossible to actually describe the music in words, so you'd do yourself a favor to give them a listen yourself.

Defintely the best album by coheed and cambria ever . . . amazing guitars, interesting melodies, and lyrics that take you on a battle . . . of epic proportions. Definitely worth the money, every track on this album offers something new and adds to the whole making this one of the few flawless CD's I've ever heard.

This is a fascinating recording... The combination of the stunning rhythm section , wailing guitars, and Claudio's haunting cocals leave you craving more.

I'm not going to explain the general story, because that can me found elsewhere on the internet. I'll cover this album only.

The Ring In Return - A great opener. Being a cellist, I find this orchestral section fascinating. If you listen closely, you will hear the eerieness....
The Phone Rings.
A woman answers.
Music comes from seemingly nowhere.
After it fades away, you can faintly hear a man say "Hello Apollo, Where should I begin?", which leaves more questions.

In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: 3- One of my favorites on the album: This is a flashback-type scene in which Coheed is with his brother Inferno. THe voice of the song is that of Inferno. It is the realisation of the repercussions of the murder of Coheed's children.

Cu ts Marked In The March of Men- Another Flashback, back to when Coheed and Cambria are trying to escape theri past. They are going to be seperated, and Coheed tries to prevent this.

Three Evils- Another one of my favorites. Flashback to when Coheed and CAmbria were STill alive. This is an Interregation/Room 101 type scene... Where Coheed finds out that his son Claudio survived, and that he is going to be killed, because he is the one they call "The vision that bares the gift to save the universe" Also, Coheed cintemplates suicide.

The Crowing- Another Flashback. Coheed is trying to call out to Claudio, with praise and hope "You Were my FAvorite" We see a response from Claudio, of sorts. (From I severed my ties... to I love them all as a son should to mother and father) and (DEar Ambelinna...)

BLood Red Summer - We're in the "Modern" era now.Claudio is contemplating his existence, basically.

The Camper Velourium series: Basically, Claudio and Ambelinna go on the Camper Velourium, a spaceship, and meet ists owner , the racist and sexist al the killer (Only White girls). They join him and leave the world they knew behind.

A Favor House Atlantic - Claudio is pursued by a bounty hunter, trying to kill him so the universe will not be saved.

The light & The Glass - THe stage is set for the next album. Al reveals to claudio that hi s murdering parents are dead. Also, there is a second mention of the name Apollo.

2113- I have no right to interpret this, because I see it as beautiful music, and the title as a Rush tribute. It is supposedly about Claudio's mother contacting him in a dream, but then again, who knows, it's a hidden track.

All in all, and with the exception of :The Camper Velourium III: Al the Killer, it's not a dark record, as compared to the following on in the series (which has lyrics like "Why aren't you smiling anymore, bitch?" and "I hope you die right now will you drink my chemical?")

Firstly, no one calls this band punk. At all. They're progressive rock, and very good prog rock at that. I wouldn't doubt it if the only Ramones song you ever heard was "Blitzkreig Bop" and the only Rancid song was either "Time Bomb" or "Fall Back Down". And Simple Plan is not punk. Since when is some guy in his mid-20s whining about being a teenager at all punk? Good Charlotte? Dude, get some musical taste and learn about people who can actually play music, and then maybe you'll understand the greatness of this CD.

As for the CD, its my least favorite one by Coheed, but it is still by all means an amazing CD. My favorite songs on here are "In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: 3", "Three Evils (Embodied in Love and Shadow), and "The Crowing". At first I wasn't into "A Favor House Atlantic" at all, but over time, I've even grown to love that song as well. If you're into good prog-rock or alternative, like to listen to talented guitarists, beautifully crafted lyrics, and unique vocals, you definitley should check out CO&CA.

Coheed & Cambria, despite their cheesy comic book geek image, is actually a surprisingly talented band, with a sound that's difficult to categorize. Although they are often labeled as "emo", they have a sound that I would describe as being much closer to progressive rock. They have much more in common with bands like Rush or Dream Theater than anything labeled as "emo". However, I still have no idea what exactly "emo" is supposed to be anyway. I originally thought it was meant to be melodic hardcore, like Glassjaw, but these days, the term is often used to describe bands like Good Charlotte and A New Found Glory, as well as bands like Weezer and Jimmy Eat World. And yet, none of these bands have much of anything in common with each other, or with Coheed for that matter. But, I digress.

Anyway, this album, whatever you want to call it, is a huge, sprawling, well-accomplished epic. The musicianship is tight and complex, but never detracts from the songwriting. The band has a strong pop sensibility, which balances out nicely with the progginess. Any arrogant music critic who insists that progressive music can never contain emotion, melody, or catchy hooks would be hard-pressed to cling to those cliches upon listening to this.

Frontman Claudio Sanchez is the most prominent feature of the band without a doubt. The only thing more attention-getting than his giant fuzzy afro is his distinctive and, well, weird voice. He sort of reminds me of a cross between Michael Jackson and Geddy Lee, and as vile as that combo may sound, it actually works quite well. Granted, I do have to be in just the right mood to listen to them, but he contributes some really great vocals here.

The flow of the album is excellent as well. There's a great balance between short, poppy tracks and sprawling prog epics. The title track gets things started in true over-the-top space rock fashion, with wicked time changes, the rousing "Man your battle stations!" chorous, and a huge Maiden-like choral arrangement at the end. "The Crowing", "The Light and the Glass", and the 3-part epic "The Velorium Camper" are equally huge and enthralling, and the massive hidden track "2113" (hopefully you know what song this pays homage to) is where the band reaches their full-on prog rock peak. But the band excels at shorter, catchier songs as well, like the vaguely 80s Rush-like "Three Evils", the bouncy "Blood Red Summer", and the Maiden-meets-pop of "A Favor House Atlantic". Nary a dull moment throughout.

So anyway, yeah. This definitely isn't for everyone, but I'd say it's worth a try. Just try not to take it too seriously. Shed your inhibitions, break out your toy plastic light saber, and crank it up.

"In Keeping Secrets" is a great follow up to "The Second Stage Turbine Blade." Their first album had a great mix of songs but a lack of cohesiveness. On "In Keeping Secrets" Coheed & Cambria stepped it up a notch and made an original concept type album. The work is quite epic and uses great effect like full blown strings and church sounding choirs. Coheed & Cambria are sure to leave their mark on history and this album is the beginning of the evolution. Check it out, you will not be dissapointed!
