I must say, brilliant! - Review written on June 03, 2005

Diana, Georgia's sweetheart, has brought forth a single that is stunning. Although she was not my first choice of that slot beside Fantasia, her music on this single can make your heart sing along with her. I was disappointed with her full album, because I had such high hopes with this album out. But, I still listen to this single almost every day.
1. Dreams- 8/10 A good song to start with. It does not overwhelm you, yet it doesn't leave a peice missing.
2. Don't Cry Out Loud- 10/10 I love this song. Powerful vocals and powerful lyrics create an outstanding song. A favorite song from the third American Idol season.
3. I Believe- 7/10 Not a great song choice, but Diana copes with it well.
Total: 9/10
If her album wasn't for you, but you like her voice, I suggest this single. A pop powerhouse is a great addition to a music collection, and Diana has 3 great songs waiting to be added.

I got her single on the day it was released, but I never reviewed it. I also got her album, "Blue Skies", which I also highly reccomend. As for her single, it is an amazing collaboration of three songs that she unquestionably knocks out of the park.
Dreams (5/5) this is her debut single, and it is a beautiful song that has meaningful lyrics.
Don't Cry Out Loud (3/5) this was her best performance on American Idol, but the recorded version is lacking something. it's still very well sung.
I Believe (5/5) this is where she nails it! this song sounds much better on her than on Fantasia in my opinion, and really showcases her vocal range.
Again, I reccomend both "Dreams" and "Blue Skies" for anyone who truly has a feel for music.

Diana was one of my favorite contestants, but this CD, which seems to have been rushed, is a bit disappointing. Diana still shows she can sing (and that she's infinitely better than the overrated, non-singer "Donald Duck on helium"), but her songs have no feelings and the range, especially of "Dreams" and "I Belive," not appropriate for her voice (there's no rule that says that a song has to be sung a certain key: it should be adjusted to the singer's voice).
If you want to hear how "Don't Cry Out Loud" should be sung, look for (Shanghai International Song Festival 2004 winner and Search for a Star Philippines 2003 winner) Rachel Ann Go's CD.
Diana DeGarmo-A Star in the Making - Review written on September 23, 2004

Week after week, Diana DeGarmo dazzled American Idol audiences with her demanding vocal presence and effortless deliveries, commanding the stage every chance she got. She truly was the Little Engine That Could, overcoming obstacles (She was only 16) and vicious comments by one Mr. Cowell. She persevered through tough times and made it into the final two, a surprise to her fans, AI viewers and herself. She was an example of the fact that hard work does pay off. Though losing to Fantasia Barrino, she handled the loss with grace and dignity and many gained a newfound respect for her. It was unclear how she would come off on a single though this single exemplies the fact that she has a beautiful recording voice and is full of nuances.
Track by Track Review:
Dreams-With help from Andreas Carlsson and Desmond Child, Diana displays true singing ability, combining subtlety with power. If you think this sounds country, it's because it was originally a country song and also, Diana grew up singing country initially. This song shows that not only does Ms. DeGarmo have a great pop voice but also a great country voice.
Don't Cry Out Loud-This Melissa Manchester clasic likely the biggest disappointment on the single. DeGarmo's original performance on American Idol exuded heiightened emotion and power notes that impressed. Unfortunately on the recording, a bit of the magic has subsided. Had DeGarmo been left to her own devices, this recording would have been truly spectacular but because of the use of the original tracking and quite possibly the help of Melissa Manchester, this sounds too much like the original. Needless to say, this is the song that could have been improved however, after few listens, this song does truly grow on you and one will be able to appreciate a more subtle and nuanced Diana DeGarmo singing her heart out. This might be the money hit for those that were not fans of her louder singing on the show.
I Believe-Though a lackluster idea on the part of RCA, the inclusion of this track on the record truly showcases the vocal prowess of Diana DeGarmo. Much like her performance on the show, it is uplifting and encouraging. This is what is called making the best out of a bad song. The key change in the middle is spectacular, however, the emotion DeGarmo conveyed with this song on Finale night of American Idol is missing. Nevertheless, a great effort.
All in all, though a bit of a flawed record (due to the producers more than DeGarmo herself), this single shows the world who this girl is. She has the heart of a iion and vocal and interpretative ability through song that is well beyond her tender 17 years. I cannot wait to see what this girl's debut album (out December 7th) has to offer as I know that it will include not only ballads like the single but also more uptempo songs, which DeGarmo truly excels in. I hope in years to come that DeGarmo is a recognized talent and a successful artist because I knowt that she has the makingr of a star. Good luck and Bravo, Diana DeGarmo.

At only 16 years old Diana Degarmo proved that you can perform at any age by being the second American Idol finalist of 2004. And although she lost the title to Fantasia Barrino she won the hearts of many fans of ages with her strong vocals and beautiful talent. Here is the track by track review of her first single Dreams,
1. Dreams,
Written by the ever popular Desmond Child and Swedish based Andreas Carlsson Diana sings about having faith in yourself and never giving up when a hard time arises and i'm aware that this touching song will recieve airplay on radio stations around the world.,
2. Don't Cry Out Loud,
After listening to Diana's version of this song I popped in my Melissa Manchester cd to hear the original version and while Melissa Manchester's version is superb Diana's version is far more better than Melissa Manchester's version. In fact she sounds so much like Melissa she could almost be her twin kinda spooky is it? I would love to see Diana do an album of all Melissa Manchester's songs,
3. I Believe,
This song was performed by both Fantasia and Diana at the AI III finale and carries a wonderful message about having faith in your goals and not giving up in the search to find your rainbow's end and your pot of gold. This song is written by AI I finalist Tamyra Gray,
So there you have it a review on one of the newest singers in 2004 and i'm sure Diana Degarmo will have a very bright future ahead of her and if you are interested in singers like her I recommend the following albums, Jordan Hill-Jordan Hill, Stacie-Orrico-Stacie Orrico, Lee Ann Womack-I Hope You Dance, Leann Rimes-Sittin' On Top Of The World,

I never really understood why Diana DeGarmo was in the top two. I mean, more often than not, her live performances were quite average to me and I could definitely see anything she did in any talent showcase. I was shocked to see she got so high. I gave her a chance and she showed me why she was in the top two in the final episode. She can sing.
Now, is she being marketed to be country or pop? Her songs have elements of country and pop, and honestly, her Southern drawl leads me to think of country. But, she can sing though. Her live performances may not have been the best, but she does deliver well on this single.
"Don't Cry Out Loud" is wonderfully sung. Diana is at her best on this song, and she blew me away when I heard it. I was like, is this really Diana? She did extremelt well. And her version of "I Believe" is a tad better than Fantasia's. I hate to compare the two, but they balance each other out when it comes to this song. Vocally, I think Diana can sing her butt off on this song, but I can picture Fantasia actually moving me with her performance of this song and Diana just making me clap.
"Dreams" is not the best song for Diana at all. It's just not catchy to me. I actually tried to listen to it but I had to move on to the next song after hearing the first minute. I don't know what it is, but it's just not for me.
People, "pitchy" means "full of pitch", which, oftentimes, Diana is not. Let's try "off-key". Sometimes in her live performances, Diana seemed tone deaf and didn't really catch the pitch of the instruments when it came to adlibs and even leads. But, she has shown me, with this single and her last performances on AI, that she is definitely a force to be reckoned with.

I just listened to Diana DeGarmo's new CD and was absolutely amazed by it. Most people will buy a $15 CD just for 1 or 2 good songs. You can buy a $6 CD here and get 3 truly amazing songs. Her first song "Dreams" is great. I have heard it on the radio many times, but it never gets old. I have read where people have complained about her 2nd song, "Don't Cry Out Loud". They have said that it sounded better on TV. In my opinion, she over-sang it on TV but it still came off as being a good song. The CD version of it comes off as a great song. The 3rd song, "I Believe" is worth the price of the CD itself. Diana takes a song that from what I have heard is supposed to be "Fantasia's song", and truly (and even though this phrase gets thrown around way too much) makes it her own. After watching the show all year, listening to the CD, and seing Diana in concert with the rest of this years Idols, I have come to the conclusion that not only is Diana a beautiful young woman, but she definitley has the voice to back it up. BUY THE CD

AMERICAN IDOL runner-up Diana DeGarmo soars with her single release of "Dreams." Three great songs to enjoy!
DREAMS (5/5): This beautiful song, co-written and produced by Desmond Child, fits Diana's vocal style just like the songs she performed on American Idol. The chorus is powerful, and Diana's voice is so beautiful. This song is a great debut single.
DON'T CRY OUT LOUD (5/5): Originally recorded and released by Melissa Manchester in 1979, Diana's version is strikingly similiar to the original. This is the song that Diana was wildly praised for when she performed in on American Idol. In my opinion, one of the best songs ever performed on the show. RCA owns "Don't Cry Out Loud" so the producers thought it would be cool to mix Diana's vocals over the original version. Since RCA owns it, they had access to the original master tapes, and recorded Diana's vocals over it! It's amazing! The only minor complaint is Diana doesn't hold that mega note in the end as she did live. Slightly disappointing, but nonetheless still a GREAT song!
I BELIEVE (5/5): AMAZING!! I think that Diana's version of this great song surpasses Fantasia's. I own Fantasia's single too, and I think that Diana's voice effortless glides through the song, as she does the higher and lower notes, while Fantasia's is a bit whiny and nasally, and shows of the weaknesses in her singing. The ONLY THING THAT MADE ME SOOOO mad about this was they cut off the outro with the "Love keeps lifting me higher." I think that part is one of the highlights of the song, when you think the songs over, and it goes into that outro. I was REALLY disappointed that was cut off from the final version, but it's still a great song. I still rated it 5/5 because it's not Diana's fault that happened. It was probably a producer's decision.
OVERALL : Yes, I definitely recommend this single. This single is proof that Diana, although not the winner of American Idol, will have a successful career. I can't wait to hear more of this young, amazing talent! Check it out!

My mother bought this single a month ago and it has been in my cd player ever since. The second she got home and I saw she bought, I had to open it. I listened to it and I was just blown away. I loved every track, I sing along with it everytime. I hate the sweaks of Fantasia, but love the soothing sound of Diana.
Me and my mother are huge Diana fans. When we watched the Road to Hollywood special, we knew she was gonna be a star. We tracked her through hollywood and were essatic to see her in the top 32. We thought she was the best in her group of 8 and voted for her. The night of the finale we voted over 100 times because we felt she was a true American Idol. She showed growth and for a then 16 year old she had power. Her age did not effect her. It should be known that 12 million people did not hear Diana sing her version of I Believe due to a blackout on Direct TV and there was that sour note, which was a mic error.
Dreams- A medium, upbeat song. This fits her style and voice completly. I don't remember Fantasia singing this song, so I guess it wasn't very memorable. I loved the power in her voice. I like the lyrics of it, more then I believe. I like how she had high and low notes, it showed her beautiful range.
Don't Cry Out Loud- This is a beautiful rendition. I don't care if it is not like the live performance, it is great. I feel she was told to tone it down. I feel that production is to blame, not Diana. She hits the high notes once again and makes me like this song. I mean it is her song, seems like it was made for her.
I Believe- She was robbed of this single. This is her song plain and simple. She sings it with power, range, dynamics. It just flows and it is beautiful. I hate the ending because it was not like the show and they took that whole ending out. I feel in order to make sure it wasn't her single they took it out. It was just great and loved it way more than Fantasia's version. Diana made me believe and now makes me want to go for my dreams.
I loved this single and strongly recommend it to everyone. I can't wait for her full length cd. I am hoping that she has No More Tears on the CD.
