Lots of characters, not as much fun. - Review written on June 06, 2007

I'd like to think of myself as a collector so I will review this not only on fun but I'll review the game's technicalities. The best thing about this game is what it appears to be, the game itself is not well put together, for a collector's item this is very cheap. The main screen is lame and boring, they took more time back in the day presenting the game and making you excited to play, then. The difficulty in this game is just plain RIDICULOUS! They do not want you to have a good time playing against the computer unless you choose the below novice level and lets face it, everyone who's ever played Street Fighter knows that the game is only worth playing for the endings.
Third stryke is a nice bonus to this, it's not awesome, but after getting my butt kicked so harshly it was refreshing to go and not lose as much on Third Stryke. It's got some secrets which is nice, and a whole bunch of new people (to me at least!).
They didn't put any effort improving the game, Mortal Kombat did a much better job at sharpening their graphics for MK1, MK2 and UMK3 when they re-released them as part of their expansion packages. If you have lots of patience and enjoy hitting start when the continues come up as often as they do, then go for it! I didn't have a good experience with the game but at least I can say I have it, even if it's just sitting with my other unplayed games.

Being a hardcore gamer since my teen years, I spents hundreds of hours playing Street Fighter II (The World Warrior, Hyper, Championship, Super) and after not playing any version of it in about 10 years I thought that I'd own a piece of history by owning this. Much to my surprise and disbelief, it was nothing like I remember. I thought that I would be able to play all the different versions seperately (much like Tekken 5 has the first three installments)however I was not aware that I would be playing Street Fighter II Super Turbo and I could choose my player from all the different Street Fighter games. It is not what I expected and I think that I have wasted money buying this item, the only redeeming quality of this is Street Fighter III (which I never playing prior) and Street Fighter II:The Animated Movie but still drops the ball in terms of editing and dubbing. If you're a Street Fighter fan, use extreme caution before buying, if not then pass this by.
Street Fighter 3 alone is worth the money - Review written on September 10, 2006

As an earlier reviewer noted, this is not much of a collection, but it is an excellent game to have. Street Fighter 3 is probably the "classiest" Street Fighter series ever made - while the action is not as fast-paced as the Alpha/Marvel series of games, it is perfectly balanced and oozes "technique" from its pores.
SF3: Third Strike alone is worth cost of this collection, especially when you consider "the other game" included in the collection.
Hyper SF2 is an amalgamation of the earlier SF2 games (SF2, CE, Turbo, Super SF2, and Super SF2 Turbo) - you get to pick any of the 12 characters (+ Akuma), and you get to pick the exact version of the character, from any of the 5 games (assuming that the character belonged to the game to begin with, of course). So, for example, you could pick SF2 Blanka (from the original game) to fight against SSF2T Fei Long.
While the idea is not a bad one, and the controls work well (unlike the SF games in the Capcom Classics collection), this game is infamously difficult. In fact, unless you resort to cheesy moves (like Blanka's roll attacks), you'll find yourself losing even at the default difficulty level.
The Reason why to get this, and a reason not to... - Review written on October 26, 2005

I love Street Fighter II, I mean I really love Street Fighter II. I have been playing it since it came out in the arcades, Super Nintendo and Sega Genesis, and I still play them on those systems. I own every version of Street Fighter II with the exclusion of Super Street Fighter II Turbo because I don't own a 3DO. That is the reason why I got this collection because it's included in what is called Street Fighter II: Hyper, which is like a combination of all of the Street Fighter II versions. But I am disappointed in it. Why you ask? I am a really good player, this is my favorite fighting game and I can beat all the others on the hardest settings. But the level of difficulty on this Hyper version is insane. The easiest even is hard!!! Especially if you are fighting T. Hawk and he does that HO thing!!! I want to break the disc!!! But let me say that when you are playing against a human player, all the fun and stradegy of Street Fighter II returns. But what I think is the best thing of the whole deal is the game I didn't buy it for: Street Fighter III: Third Strike. This game is excellent!!! Graphics, Sound, Challenge, and most of all FUN!!! It's all there! So if you want to play Street Fighter II the right way, play it on a Super Nintendo is my suggestion or play it on Genesis, or if your lucky to have the arcade machine around play it (you lucky Bast..), but don't it on the Hyper version and plan on actually have fun against the computer. But do get it!!! Buy it for Third Strike, it is well worth it.

The summary says it is 6 games in one. Really, it's only 2 games in one. Street Fighter III is a blast and one of the most fun games in the series. Loads of characters, new moves, and new locations. This game alone would've gotten a 5.
Then there's supposedly 5 Street Fighter games: Street Fighter II, Championship, Turbo, Super Turbo ... and one other I can't remember because in truth it's not there.
It's hard to explain, but instead of choosing one of the five games to play, you play one game but choose from which game your opponents come from. The game menus are the same, the world map that flies back and forth is the same, everything except what characters you fight.
Also, I still have Street Fighter II for super nintendo. The game is incredibly easy on level 0. So easy that it can be beaten with straight perfects. Level 5 is a challenge. In the Anniversy edition, the "easiest" difficulty level is the same as difficulty 5 on the super nintendo. Which is very annoying.
On top of all that, I bought the game hoping to have Street Fighter Alpha included. Then I thought maybe I remembered wrong and Alpha was really Turbo. Nope, Alpha not included.
But 3rd Strike makes the game worth it. Easily.

I am a huge Street Fighter fan since the beginning. I played every single Street Fighter game out there, and this title is perfect for me, since there are not that many arcades with this machine. I enjoy the original action and gameplay, and not to mention all of the original characters and style they represent.
This title has the origal version, along with the Turbo and Championship version, and not to mention Street Fighter 3, not to mention all of the characters all rolled into one. I like the idea of a original Ryu could fight a more recent Ryu.
The only problem I have with this game is the difficuly of it. I am a good player, yet I still lose to the first person I fight, and that is on the Easiest Mode. Come on, they fight like they are on Hard Mode, I really am ticked off by DeeJay and T-Hawk, they are a pain to fight. I have to resort to basic kick and sweep, and mostly sweep just to beat them. Word to Capcom, make Easiest Mode easy and Hard Mode hard, not Hard Mode all the way.
Overall classic Street Fighter game, with Street Fighter 3 and classic action that we all love, this is a great game for all you fans.
The Greatest Fighter, but Not the Greatest Collection - Review written on May 11, 2005

For old-school Street Fighter fans, no other fighting game series comes close to matching the greatness of Capcom's flagship fighter. The release of Anniversary Collection on Street Fighter's 15th anniversary should have had Street Fighter fans jumping up and down in delight. Instead, Capcom has delivered a compilation that, while worth the cost, is far from perfect.
Hyper Street Fighter II combines all five of the Street Fighter II iterations into a single game. Had each game been selectable on its own, Anniversary Collection would have been the best fighting game ever released. Unfortunately, all the versions are essentially crammed into a single game's space (think Mortal Kombat Trilogy here), and while human-versus-human battles are as fun as ever, the computer always plays as the Super Street Fighter II Turbo characters with all their super moves and what not. Worse yet, the CPU difficulty is set way too high on this game, so that even expert Street Fighter II players can expect to have difficulties on the easiest difficulty settings.
The addition of Street Fighter III: Third Strike to this package is nice, and anyone who did not pick Third Strike up in its original Dreamcast release should buy Anniversary Collection to add it to their library. Third Strike is practically arcade-perfect, and arguably represents the highest evolution of 2-D fighting games. However, next to the Street Fighter II games, Third Strike seems perhaps too evolved, incorporating too many advanced gameplay techniques and graphical geegaws.
For the price, Anniversary Collection is a must-buy for anyone who likes fighting games. However, fans from the Street Fighter II days who want to relive the old days are advised to track down the old PS1 Street Fighter Collection discs (and suffer through their long load times) for the best old-school experience at home.
Street Fighter is BACK!!! - Review written on April 28, 2005

Street Fighter II was the game that practically invented fighting games, and Capcom celebrates it's 15th anniversary with this compilation disc. There's Hyper Street Fighter II, which is basically all the different versions of SFII combined, so, for example, who could have the Super SFII Ryu against SFII Champion Blanka, etc. Then there's Street Fighter III: Thrid Strike, which is the best of the SFIII games. Beware though, as only the most experienced SF gamers can possibly learn all the combos and parries to succed. Also included the SFII anime movie, but it's the censored english dubbed version so if you didn't like the american voice actors you won't like them here either (personally I thought they were all right). Anyway-bottom line is this is a great collection although it would have been nice if they had included some more games and bonus features. As it stands though, if you consider yourself an avid Street Fighter player, then by all means get this game!

I'm a very big Street Fighter fan. When I first heard about Street Fighter Anniversary Collection, I was stoked. You should take the word 'Collection' in the title with a grain of salt though. This is a half baked collection, consisting of really just two games. The two games included here are top notch classics, though. Hyper Street Fighter II: The Anniversary Edition (confusing enough?) is a cool little collection of all the Street Fighter II games in one. However, they're all basically the same with some minor differences, and you'll notice that some of the fun little features found in the original Street Fighter II games, such as the car and brick smashing stages, are absent. Why, Capcom, why? Also, why cant you play these games seperately? And is it just me, or is Blanka's A.I. annoyingly cheap? Still, Hyper Street Fighter II: The Anniversary Edition is great fun, and even more enjoyable if you have a friend to play with you.
The real meat in this "collection" is the vastly underrated Street Fighter III: Third Strike. Although the first two Street Fighter III games werent included (SF III and Double Impact - again, why, Capcom, why? Are you going to milk us for all us gamers are worth? I guess so). Third Strike is a must play for any hardcore fighting fan, although the charecters aren't as good as the original SF II cast. The graphics are also pretty good for a 2D fighter - its a visual whirlwhind of 2D animation. That is what makes this worth owning.
Although this could have been so much more, its a great buy. You may rather want to purchase the Xbox version instead, though, since that includes online play. Now where is Street Fighter Alpha Collection?
Street Fighter II, Street Fighter III, plus the movie.... - Review written on February 27, 2005

The game lets you select SF2 or SF3. If you select SF2 you can select what character versions you want (Standaard, Championship, Turbo, Super, Super Turbo, etc..). All the character are included. From the best I can tell all backgrounds are in as well. Overall not bad... untill you start a single player game and that leads to the one unforgivable problem here, there's a bug in SF2 (all versions) that makes the game always play on HARDEST. Making it near impossible to win against the computer (at least for most of us). You can go into options and set it ot EASY, nothing changes.
This bug doesn't effect SF3. On SF3 the difficulty setting seems to work as expected. SF3 is pretty awesome! I've played the Playstation (PSOne) port of the game a long time ago and remember how poor it was compared to the arcade version. On this version Capcom got it right. If you think of this compilation as Street Fighter III with bonus features you'll be happy.
The included SF2 Movie is kind of hidden (you have to go into the gallery on SF2 and you'll find it) the quality isn't as good as the stand alone DVD release, as expected it is the edited version.
Good value. If they would have included the original Street Fighter, the three Alpha series games, and corrected the difficulty problem with SF2 I would have given this *****
