Excellent product for small surburban home - Review written on October 30, 2008

Rating: 5 out of 5

Does a great job on my small yard (4,000 sq. ft. total). Enough power to trim the edges of the lawn, keep the shrubs neat, and clean up with the sweeper. All on one charge per battery per tool. This product great for low maintenance yards like mine. If yours is bigger, probably not enough power for a single charge to do all the work and tools not powerful enough.

I have owned this Black and Decker combo for appriximately 5 years now. I use all three tools on a regular basis. They are still running as if new to this day! I have had to replace the batteries (all three) once. I leave the batteries plugged in all the time. It does not seem to affect their performance or life. My lawn is approximately 100 feet by 150 feet and I maintain it meticuously-which means I edge and wheedwack every week. No CORDS! No GAS!! I love it!!
GREATEST GARDEN TOOLS EVER! - Review written on October 09, 2008

Rating: 5 out of 5

All 3 tools are exactly what I needed. My favorite is the blower. One of the reviewers commented that the blower was more like a toy - I totally disagree. I have fall leaves that are everywhere - deck, carport, front yard, back yard, long winding driveway....it used to take me hours to rake and sweep. It now takes me 30 minutes to do it all.

I have no problem with the batteries. They last long enough for what I need to do - and if one is wearing down, I plug that one back in and grab another one to finish the job.

The hedge trimmer and weed whacker are great as well. Again, what used to take me half a Saturday has been reduced to less than 2 hours. The cordless capability is absolutely fantastic - no cords or gas - and the noise level is not even an issue. The tools are lightweight and extremely easy to use.

This lawncare center is one of the best deals out there. I couldn't be happier.
Excellent for Small yards - Review written on October 08, 2008

This set works excellent for small yards, power of weed eater and trimmer are excellent, the blower is fine but not as powerful. And the best, there is no need for handling gas. You can not match this price if purchase separately, and you would not get the storage rack. If your yard is small to medium, this tool set is perfect.

Does the job! - Review written on September 24, 2008

I bought this 3 months ago and it has worked great! I live in a typical suburban neighborhood with bermuda grass. I usually have to use all three batteries, but it easily trims and edges all of the parts of my lawn. The hedge trimmer works great also. I can trim all of the bushes in my yard in just a few minutes. It is surprisingly powerful and was able to get through some of the thicker branches. If you have lots of thick, woody weeds or a large lot, this might not be for you. If you live in a typical sub, this will do the job.

I love this weedeater! It is very lightweight, never ever looses it's string and is strong enough to do the tought stuff. I've never been able to use any other type weedeater....The blower should be as powerful as the weedeater. Still acceptable, but no where near as strong as the weedeater. Have not used the trimmer.

These items are all a great improvement over the corded tools that I have used for years. All 3 are powerful and lighter than I expected. I've had no issues with battery life. This kit comes with 3 batteries which more than covers my weekly routine. I can load a battery into each yard tool and go from one to the next without interruption. These are every bit as good as advertised.

As long as you realize you are purchasing battery powered tools, you will be SO happy. It takes about 2 batteries for me to trim my whole place. (I have a lot) The hedge trimmer is great. It trims everything for me very nicely. (doesn't trim roses...thought I would try.) :) The blower...def not high powered but does work better than trying to pick up by hand or sweeping. Over all, I am extremly impressed with this product and would recommend it to anyone even if you are used to gas tools. Either I had to mix fuel and fill a gas powered trimmer everytime I mowed or I have to change a couple of batteries...I will go with the batteries!

I purchased the set in July 2008. I've been using if almost three months now and I like it. The edger does a great job. The Trimmer is a little weak, but for the smaller simple trimming it does a pretty good job. The blower clears the clippings from the lawn and does a pretty good job blowing out the garage. It's not very powerful, but it does what I need it to do.

I have a good size front lawn and a medium size back lawn and if I use all three items, it will drain all the batteries. But if I only use two of the tools, I can pretty much get through everything without a problem.

I highly recommend this for someone just starting out. It's nicely priced and stores great. You can mount it to the wall and it doesn't take much space at all.

Well worth it!

This is a great alternative to the task of storing / mixing fuel for gardening chores. A great valvue as well, buying in the complete set. It comes with a handy storage rack for the tools and charger for the batteries. They are wall mount so they take up little valuable floor space. I cant think of a better tool for an apropriate size yard.
Petrolheads beware! You might change your mind - Review written on September 08, 2008

Well, living among major petrolheads, they looked at us very strangely when we mentioned that we wanted a battery operated trimmer and blower for our 1+ acre of land. We looked at all the major stores (Home Depot, Lowes, etc.) and couldn't find them anywhere. This was exactly what we were looking for, with a hedge trimmer thrown in for good measure. Sure, you actually have to remember to charge the battery, and each battery is good for about 25 minutes, but you get three batteries - do the math. The trimmer is brilliant, and the blower works well (could be a little more powerful, but a good start.) At least we are not always running out of petrol, and doing our bit for the environment.

I like the whole line of B&D 18V cordless yard tools: Weed Trimmer, Hedge Trimmer, Blower, and Chain Saw. These are clearly homeowner quality. That doesn't mean their bad, just that they're not professional grade. And that's just fine, since I'm not a professional landscaper.

For my standard city plot, I have waaaay more juice than I need with the 3 included batteries. I imagine it's enough juice for a moderate sized suburban lot, as well. If you have a LARGE lot, you may want to go gas.

The weed trimmer works just fine, and I like the edging feature - it worked far better than I expected, even on my grossly overgrown lawn edges. The hedge trimmer gets the job done, though if you have high hedges you may want the model with the extension handle. And the blower works fine for clearing debris off pavement and flat surfaces (not so much debris on/in grass). If you want or need professional performance, this isn't the product for you. But if all you're doing is standard yard maintenance for an average house, these get the job done effectively, efficiently, quietly, and inexpensively.

I love 'em! I got so tired of trying to get the gas hedge trimmer started I wanted to scream. Then the darn gas lines cracked on the weed whacker I'd had enough. After doing some research, I discovered the line of lawn tools by Black and Decker. I have used their cordless drills and sanders for years now so it was a natural progression. The power center has made it so easy. I even use it to charge my drill battery packs. If the battery goes low, grab another and keep going. I now trim and clean up with my weekly mow and my yard looks great. It sure beats pulling cords and $4 a gallon gas!!

When I bought this combo pack I saw a lot of comments that it did not have enough power for the job. Batteries do not last long enough. Well I also saw the review about the products were great for todays size lawns. This person is correct. Most houses in the western and southwestern US do not have large lot sizes. In some cases one might ask why we even own lawn mowers. I live in Arizona and we enjoy our lawns, trees and bushes. I always hated to drag out the extension cord and all the hassle that was. The combo pack comes with 3 batteries (and the charger for all 3). You can buy more if you want. I do not use all 3 tools at the same time so I have enough power for my lawn everytime I use them. If you have the smaller lot size these tools are great and save space in the garage (or storage area). Black & Decker Great work!

I read many reviews before I purchased these items. I was very worried that it would not meet my needs. I live on an acre in the country and have several large trees. Since I do not use the hedge trimmer all that much I use that battery to finish the weed whipping (2 batteries used to weed whip). The blower is great for quick and light clean-ups. I am very pleased with all three of these products. I have only had them for a month and have used all but the hedger 4 times and the hedger once. The hedger is very light and easier to use then electric ones. I'm able to trim hard to reach areas a lot easier and safer now.
I used the edger last week on my driveway and had a nice result. It does not make as nice of a cut like the metal blade edgers but it does make a nice cut.

I received this total outfit about 6 weeks ago. I have to say, the 3 batteries together last me as long as I am ever ready, willing, and able to deal with to do a specific chore. I own about 1/3 acre with easements, and a double-wide driveway that will hold about 8 cars. In back there's a path to the shed, and the patio. And beds around the house. I have found that all 3 power tools, with 3 batteries, have enough moxy to do the job at hand. I have been repeatedly pleasingly impressed with the performance of this 3-pack!

The items are great at the bulkset price. The batteries do not have a long life and the power is not as stong as a gas or electric tool but it works for our teen sons that at the ages to start doing the yard work instead of us paying a yard man. Our 10 year old son says it makes the job of weed eating "smooth".

The edger is very easy to use and powerful enough for my yard. The blower seems to be weak, but have not used it enough. Have not used the hedge trimmers. Overall I am very happy to just push a button and the edger starts, but a safety button is on it also so kids can't get hurt. Would recommend this with the price of gas increasing and if you have trouble starting a gas edger.

I've been looking quite a while for an electric hedge trimmer when I came across this Black and Decker Lawncare Center cordless set at Amazon. After checking the reviews (and the price) I decided to go for it, especially when it qualified for free shipping from Amazon. Where else could I get three cordless outdoor tools for the price of one gas trimmer?
How's it work? I am more than satisfied, the tools have heavy duty plastic housings, and are built very strong, with enough voltage to last through several uses before charging. They do the job well for my simple yard. If you had heavy brush or ponderously long edging and trimming to do, of course there are better gas powered alternatives. But for no fuss use and quick setup these tools are more than adequate and will get the job done! Plus, no cords!

I've had several weeks to use this, and right out of the box, I was impressed. Whoever designed this, must have done their yards for a long time, and came up with a list of ideas that they not only wanted to see on the tools, but also in their storage.

I loved the ease of which the battery and tool rack was to install, and stable too. After getting that up and charging the batteries, I had three weeks of high grass to tackle. Even with that, the weed eater had little problem. With that, and a dirty patio and walk...I used up all three batteries and barely managed to finish the job. Remind you, this was three weeks of neglect this had to take on.

With the subsequent weeks of use, I normally use two of the three batteries just to run the weed eater and blower. I don't have a lot of hedges to manage, but it does an excellent job when I do bring it out.

Each of the tools are very light, and the batteries are removed and replaced quite easily. Even my 11 y/o son can wield each of these and not have complaints.

The only yard type I can't recommend this for is something extremely large...large like the type you use a ride on mower to manage. However, if you have an average single family home and yard, this is perfect, and is worth it not to mess with mixing gas/oil, and pulling the silly starter 100 times to get it running. Battery in, and it just works.
Really Works Well - Review written on July 15, 2008

Well, I admit it. I hate yardwork! So, who doesn't! I have a gas powered trimmer and a corded electric trimmer but both seem to be a pain to use for quick trims. I have to work to get the gas trimmer started and it is overkill for most of what I need. I also have a corded hedge trimmer and blower/vac but I hate getting out the electric cord and dragging it around the yard -- particularly around the pool. Consequently, I trim, ect. much less that I really should.

I finally decided to try this despite disappointing results many years ago with rechargeable trimmers. I have only used it for a brief period of time but I am entirely satisfied. All the tools work well. I was quite surprised with the blower since I thought it would be more of a toy than a useful accessory. However, it did a fine job of blowing grass clippings from my sidewalk, which is the main reason I have a blower. I was also surprised with the hedge trimmer. It handled my dense honeysuckle bush without a problem and is light enough to maneuver with one hand.

I can't say how long the batteries will last before needing replacement but I was able to string trim, hedge trim and blow grass clippings on one battery which still had juice left.

The main negative I see is the use of NiCad batteries. I would have preferred NiMH or Lithium Ion or at least a NiCad charger which also conditions. However, with Amazon selling replacement batteries for under $32 I can live with that if the battery life is long enough.

Of course, now my wife will expect me to do the yard more often ;-)

These tools are handy. I have had a previous model battery Bush Hog trimmer and it has stood the test of time - still working after five years! When the combo pack reached a reasonable price I bought it. I charged up the three batteries for an initial period of 15 hours and started using all three tools. They all did a pretty decent job but the blower is rather weak.

When I finished I went to replace the batteries in the charger. No red light came on to indicate they were on charge. I checked the unit and it was running but not putting out power to the three charge stations. I inserted and re-inserted the batteries to make sure they were "locked" in the charger tight. That did nothing. I moved the charger to two other outlets - nothing. So, after one charge the thing blew is all I can figure.

I had planned on buying the B&D fast charger everyone thinks so highly of anyway but I did not want to do it right now but it looks like I'll have to. I don't know if I can return the charger unit alone as the shipping to return the entire lawn center would cost more than the charger. I'll have to contact Amazon after the July 4th holiday and find out what I can do.

So, I would have given this tool center four, maybe five stars after I used it a couple more times but I have to give it zero to two stars only due to the quality of the charger issue.

EDIT: Well, here it is the day after. Last night I decided I had nothing to loose so I took the charger unit all apart. I checked each of the wire connections, tapped on the transformer a bit and tightened down on all the circuit boards. When I was finished I put the batteries back in and it works like a charm. The red lights came on and each battery is now warm to the touch telling me each is charging. I have no idea what I did to fix the thing but it works - for now at least. I don't trust it of course because it can go out again anytime so I will be buying the smart charger on my next trip to the hardware store.

Edit: Here it is a week later and the charger went out again but I think I found the problem with these things - I hope. I hung the charger unit along side the tool rack in my garage and had all three batteries installed as suggested in the manual. I'm in Texas and it is hot, and even hotter in the garage. For a day or two the lights on all three charge stations were on but then I noticed they were off again. No charge. I removed the charger unit and put it and the batteries in the house. I tried it later that day after everything cooled down and sure enough, the red lights came on and the batteries were once again charging.

I think the culprit is heat and these units must be very sensitive to it. The charger may sense that the batteries are overheating from the charge (when in fact that heat is supplemented by the ambient air temps). If that happens then the unit will shut down to protect the batteries. That is all I can figure. So for all of you that have a charger fail while hung in the garage (which is probably most people), take it down, let it cool and try it again later at normal room temperature. I bet it will work. Also, to be double safe, I am charging only one battery at a time so it does not overload the charger and removing the battery after it has been fully charged. I think keeping the batteries going all the time in the charger, regardless of what the manual says, is not a good thing.

Update July 30, 2008. After contacting B&D by email and describing the unreliability of the charger unit, they simply asked for my code date number and my address. They sent me out another charger unit right away and did not even ask for the return of the defected one. So far so good with the new charger but only time will tell. Anyway, that's pretty darn good customer service.
The Time Has Come For Cordless - Review written on July 05, 2008

Rating: 5 out of 5

As others have said, don't buy this if you have a big friggin lawn. But it does a very nice job for the typical suburban home. I really like the performance of the edger. It is light and easier to use, but gets the job done. The first time I used it I had not edged in quite some time. Because of that I used up two batteries. Since then I can do the job on only one. The blower is replacing a corded blower. My corded one definately has more power and I will still use it on really big jobs(like clearing pine needles off my drive-way). But I am amazed at how often I am using this new one. It is so light and easy to handle that I keep finding more uses for it. My corded blower was such a hassle with dealing with the extension cord, that I usually just used a broom to clear the porch, patio, and sidewalk. Just keep those batteries charged up! Only used the trimmer once, but it was fine. Again, much nicer not dealing with those electrical cords.
In conclusion, if your one of those macho guys who have a need for more power(like Tim the Tool Man Taylor), don't buy this set. But if you are confident in your manlyness and don't need to compensate for "other" short commings.......go for it!
