Its hard to Imagine a game with more variety than Fable - Review written on August 14, 2008

Like I stated, Fable is crammed with gameplay.
The game starts with you, as a young boy, who witnesses his village burn, and the inhabitants slaughtered. It is then that you will be saved by a powerful mage, and begin your training in the Hero's Guild.
Once you come of age, what will you do? Will you venture out as a bloodthirsty demon, and exact your revenge on those who wronged you? Or will you choose the light side, and help those in need. Fable offers Light and Dark options, with many shades of Gray in-between.
In short, Fable is a top-notch RPG with tons of replay value. I reccomend it to ANYONE with an Xbox and a few months to burn.

I downloaded this on my Xbox 360 through the Xbox Live because I had some credits I had to use. I was hoping this game would be good and boy was I surprised. It is a really fun game. From the first time I started it and accidentatly farted on the game (first time I seen a game do this!) to becoming a full fledge hero everything about it was pretty amazing. I do highly recommend this game and relate it to the "Zelda" franchise but it's Microsofts version. I know it's NOT zelda, don't flame my review. But it does have similar characterisitcs. Definitly try it if you want to stay occupied and have some fun!

This is my absolute favorite game for the X Box (please forgive me, Halo lovers). I literally get it out every few months and play a campaign or two on it before I play any other game on X Box. As it says in the description, you can choose to be good or evil or walk between the two. I seem to always feel bad after a few hours of starting an 'Evil' campaign, so my character is always good by the end of the game. I just love the way the halo looks on his head and his eyes turn this beautiful shade of blue (if he's extremely good, his footprints are blue too). On the other (dark) side, his eyes are red and glowy and his footprints are red and grows horns (Hellboy style).

My favorite addition to the game (from Fable to Fable: Lost Chapters) is probably the sweet new abilities you can learn. I love the Steal Life spell. I'm also a really big fan of the Chicken hat you can win on the Chicken Kickin' Game.

I'd recommend this game to anyone with an X Box and for $10, it's a steal.

this is a very good game i like that its very realistic like the laws and such. speaking of i got in a "little tussle" with the gaurds i'll tell you about that in a second what i mean by realistic is all the stuff you get to do like getting new nicknames becoming good or evil helping people and earning gold for it going on those cool little quests and all the cool fighting and stuff the only reason for the slightly less than perfect score is because of two things one:every once in a while the game just shuts of two:thats really annoying when the guild master starts talking to you through your guild seal interupting your quests.about the guards i walked into a house went to a book shelf pressed A near it and a picture of a book popped up since there was no other option i had to steal it on my way out i tresspassed then trying to hit the gaurds i hit a lady then i had to run out of town.overall very good game microsoft is going to have to work pretty hard to make Fable 2 even better.

What can I say, this game is fantastic. I know, some people say that the story is too short but if you spend time exploring all the little secrets (demon doors, silver keys/chests, optional quests, hidden puzzles and items, marriage) hidden away in the world of Fable you can easily squeeze 25-30 hours from the game. The price right now is a bargain too. Buy it, you won't regret it!

I see alot of bad reviews for this game because "it's too hard to stray from the path." "It's not what was promised." etc. The fact is, although it didn't fully live up to its promises, it still made good on a lot of them. I hand it to Lionhead for being ambitious. Most developers stick with a tried and true formula that works, rarely trying to really push the way games are played.
Final Fantasy for instance... Don't get me wrong, as far as RPGs go Final Fantasy set the bar. I'm a huge fan of the series, the only problem is, they rarely do anything wildly different. The stories and characters change a little, they add a few new facets here and there, but it's never anything revolutionary and it's generally the same formula every time.
I agree, they probably shouldn't have promised things until they knew they could pull it off for sure, but that doesn't mean we should so easily forget about the promises they made good on. I'm rating Fable for what it is. A great RPG with a strong replay value. The story is intriguing (even though it's not terribly complex) the environments are well done and varied. As far as side missions and character customization, there's a lot to do. Furthermore, there's alot of room for playing how you want. You can be more of a Ranger type, or a Mage, or a Warrior or just mix it up for whatever the situation calls for.
It's a great game but with all games some people love it, and some people hate it. Most will at the very least enjoy it.

fable is a great beginning to a big innovation in RPGS it pushes evil and good in different ways such evil gaining certain weapons and good getting their own. the evil side of fable has its advantages such as being a easier choice to pick. killing traders with no guards around is amusing so is killing a guard while hes alone in the woods. the augmentations were also a very good item to add to the game. i also liked the abilities you could choose from such as strength and magic. the one thing that sets it apart from other RPGs was you could marry and own a house also you could become a
assassin or a warrior or a thief its a great game, FABLE 2 will really raise the bar in interactions between players and cpu and coop. one thing that fable 2 has is great coop kill each others family's. one thing to note is to save your progress on a separate file if you dont want to lose it all then you could cause so major havoc.

Rating: 4 out of 5

My girlfriend absolutely insisted that I play this game since she loved it and I'm also a huge fan of RPG's as well. It got to the point where she just flat out bought it for me on Xbox so I would play it. I clearly had to put this in line as my next game to play. So after I finished with Doom 3 I started working on this daunting project. Don't get me wrong, daunting is a good thing in an RPG format, it just means it's quite long, negative connotations aside; I just have a lot of games in my que is all.

The initial obvious observations are based on the character. Basically the game provides you with the character; you don't create it like you would find in more diverse Role Playing Games. Considering the fact I enjoyed Planescape: Torment to a high degree, this isn't a huge thing for me as long as the story line is pretty good. The second thing is that you don't have a major overhead world view; rather you have the third person camera similar to what you find with Tomb Raider. Thankfully the camera can be controlled and twirled around so you can see from many different angles. You can also zoom in and out to get a better look at your character, but it's always centered on your character so if you want to zoom in on the person your character is talking to, you can't do that. Frankly I found the zoom control sort of annoying in the long run because I sometimes would accidentally hit the button to zoom, I'm sure someone is now saying it's user error. Either way, it was just very easy to zoom, but it wasn't a major issue and didn't happen constantly. The world your thrust into is actually pretty huge, which is a wonderful aspect of this game, this means it's not a game that takes four hours to beat, you seriously get your moneys worth out of this! Anyway in certain areas they've put transportation locations called "Cullis Gates" that can transport you to another gate instantly. I thought this was an excellent thing because when you leave a territory and return all the enemies will reappear then you have to re-fight your way through if there's no gate nearby. This is also great if you want to build experience pretty quickly, but also annoying if you want to start moving things along once you have a lot of experience already.

The game starts off when you're a little boy living in a town called Oakvale with your father. As in most story lines tragedy strikes and you end up being taken care of by the Hero's Guild and then the story transports you into the future and the main story picks up from there. I have to admit the main story is pretty well done. There's a lot of character intrigue and mystery, and of course lots of things to hack and slash! Yes this is one of those hack and slash RPG's in vein of games like Diablo, only there's a little more to the purpose in some cases for our character in Fable. I tend to prefer this format over the turn based concept that Final Fantasy uses and from what I gather non-turn base is typically the preferred.

The in-game play options are really awesome though and there's a lot you can do with your character when it comes to interacting with the world around them. You sort of build your character towards an alignment, but that alignment doesn't really affect the pre-determined story line. Honestly the game is sort of lacking in that regard. So as you play you grow to either be an evil character, good character, or a neutral character as you get experience points. However, whichever alignment you lean towards does affect the way people in the towns react to you (i.e. being afraid of you or cheering for you). The one bad point when interacting with the other communities is that the script is usually pre-defined as well, so you can't choose what your character says. However, the other things you can do in terms of interaction more than makes up this limitation. For example there's this whole category of items you can get called gifts and you can give them to people. This townspeople interaction opens up a whole new world of options.

Honestly, on some levels I was wondering if this game was targeted toward a junior high demographic, but in retrospect after having played through the game I think it's actually geared towards adults. For example you can do really horrible things to people and do really nice things, the game is very diverse. There are also these things called "Demon Doors" and they open only when you meet certain requirements, like one requires you to be married. Some require you to do a great act of evil and one even requires your character to get fat! Amidst the character interaction you can actually sleep with other characters. You have to get them to like you of course, which you can do by using the "flirt" function. When you go into your character profile and look at the statistics it has a line for orientation. So that leads me to believe that your character can be more than just hetero! A shame that your character is predefined as a male now that I think about it... I assume a lot of people would enjoy that added feature to choose a female. Anyway, there's a demon door that also requires you to sleep around, how convenient that it's also near a bordello... which caters too all spectrums, from tantalizing to...well... disturbing. On top of all this your character can buy houses and even get married. This of course entails wooing the people and giving them gifts most of the time, but you can buy wedding rings from traders to seal the deal. You can go to the level where you have a house in multiple areas and have a spouse in all areas, so multiple wives if you're into that kind of thing.

The way your character gains experience is kind of interesting in my opinion and it's definitely pretty inventive. You can get experience the normal ways: by killing enemies or completing quests. Completing quests, as usual, gives you the most and you get it all at once. But for killing enemies, when you destroy one, these little green globes fall on the ground and then it's up to you to collect them all in order to get all the experience they drop. This adds a little more challenge in the game, because you can't just run off. I think there's a bit of a time limit to collect all the globes as well, but you can also hold down the right trigger and it attracts them to you. However, they are material items so they can get stuck behind other enemies in the way or rocks or whatever is in the way of the terrain. Some you have to go track down if they get stuck! The only problem with this is that you have to return to the guild in order to spend the experience points for leveling up the character. It's not like other Role Playing games where you just go into the character profile and you can spend the points right away. This is kind of annoying on some levels, like if you're nowhere near a Cullis Gate or in a new area where you're just lost and exploring.

Okay, on to the parts that I actually hated about this game. I have to preface this by saying I love taking my character on quests in any Role Playing game, it's a serious part of the genre and without quests it just wouldn't be as fun! Now in any game of this nature there are main quests, quests that are necessary for your character to complete, and side quests, quests given to you at random by townspeople. Now you get your main quests from the Guild Hall and you can choose which ones to accept. This is all well and good and that design didn't bother me at all. What was bothersome is that when you enter the area where you're about to embark on a main quest you cannot leave it! You cannot save your game mid-quest. You are seriously stuck doing it until you finish. There were a couple nights where I got stuck staying up way too late because I didn't want to repeat a two hour quest when I restarted the game. Yes, I had fun playing it, but being locked into a sequence was bothersome to me. With a game that had so many functional options, I was surprised at this limitation. Yes, it's more challenging, but there are some serious misgivings, especially when a single quest takes quite a long time.

Personally I wasn't big on the menu options. I love the fact that you had a ton of options. You can wear tons of different clothes, you can get all kinds of fun and crazy items, and you can make your character do all kinds of silly things like flirt or fart with people. The menus to scroll through these took so much time to go through that sometimes the people would walk away while I was choosing then I'd have to go find them again. I love the options, but I think this was a case of there being just way too many. I'm seriously torn though, because I do want to do even more! I just wasn't big on the menu controls and I think other games have done it better, like the Baldur's Gates games, for example.

With the "Lost Chapters" installment the game doesn't end after you beat the final boss are through most of the game. No you get to keep going and enjoy more fun quests! Honestly, the game is actually long enough without the extra aspect, but hey I'm certainly not going to complain about having more great game play to occupy my time. Honestly, I can see why this game is quite popular and gaining serious notoriety. The fun aspect of this game more than makes up for the failings. The game certainly has a degree of silliness and absurdity in it, but that's what makes it playful and fun. It's more of a light hearted Role Playing game when you think about it and kind of a nice break from all the extremely serious games that are currently in the market. I quite enjoy the serious RPG, but it was just nice to play something with a generally different approach, not to mention quite creative. I would seriously recommend this game to anyone who enjoys those kinds of games or similar Fantasy genre based games.

Rating: 3 out of 5

Game is great except on the 360 it does not save very well. Not sure what the issue is, but expect to go back about 20min prior when you save. Have tried several ways to save and each time it rolls me back 20 min. So if you complete a quest keep playing otherwise you will have to do it all over again if you save right after and shut off the system

I was not too much into video games when Peter Molyoneux hyped this game so much thus I was not expecting much from Fable. Perhaps that is why I love this game so much and consider it the best RPG I've played to date (beats Mass Effect and Oblivion). It is incredibly fun and one of the best games that came out for the original xbox. Only thing I disliked were the loading screens, but then again it is an RPG and I've had to endure longer ones (Mass Effect elevator).

I bought this game knowing there would be a certain level of violence. What is not mentioned on the Amazon site, and was only known to me when I received the product is that there is also sexual content. I would urge Amazon (and all other web vendors) to have standard full disclosure of all rating information displayed on the game package. It may also prove useful if Amazon were to enhance the (customer) game review process by addition of check-boxes for various categorizations, e.g. age appropriate, level of violence, sexual content, etc., then allow search/sort on these values.

I played Fable a couple of years ago on my friend's xbox. Then, after playing and beating the game several times, she took it back and I was sad. So, eventually I bought The Lost Chapters for PC and eh well..it's not as good on PC if you have a slow PC, let's just put it that way. And I don't like playing games on PC. BUT, then I got a new computer this past summer and was all excited because I could play it on it since it was faster, but no..it wasn't compatible with Vista so it messed up and I had to take it off. Now, I have an Xbox 360 and I was overjoyed that it actually worked on it. I thought that I would have to download some software to the 360 in order to play it. And you know the best part? I got Fable: The Lost Chapters Platinum Hits for $4.99. HA! I went on Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving and found it on sale! Now I'm playing it on my 360!!

Now on a none-lame note, yes, if you like making your own choices and love fantasy creatures and worlds and magic and swordfighting, then play this game. There's a wide variety of choices to make and marry, along with buying and finding many weapons and armor. And after you're done with the game you can continue on to be even more of a renown hero by owning houses and just simply going anywhere that you please and gaining experience to become the best, if you're a freak like me and love this game. Fun, beautiful, great storyline. I recommend it.
Fable: The Pros and Cons - Review written on December 20, 2007

So Fable was supposed to be this huge, innovative chose your own destiny game that was supposed to make our mouths drop open. I'd say it did a fairly good job of doing that. And here's why...

Pros:
-The Visuals and environments were fantastic, especially in HD.
-The controls were simple and effective.
-Character development was spot on.
-The quests were fairly self explanatory and there was no shortage of them.
-Weapons and armor were well done and the choices and combinations of each were fairly abundant.
-The choice based system was great but left a little to be desired (which is why this same statement will be a con as well).
-Damage taken throughout the game shows on your characters body.
-Character aging...and certain things age you faster, like heavy magic use. But certain things can make you younger.

Cons:
-The choice based system was great but left a little to be desired. For instance, when you are trying to be good, killing attacking people like bandits counts as an evil deed. I guess the game expects you to run from all fights.
-The game sort of feels incomplete, even the Lost Chapters version. The original felt much more incomplete though...mainly because it was.
-The targeting system was pretty poorly done. During magic use especially, you would often target friendlies and cause very bad things to happen.

All in all the game was a lot of fun and well worth the time and money put in to it. I'm very excited for Fable 2 to be released. I think it will be the first game I'll ever pay full price for it right when it comes out. That's how much fun I thought this game was.

i baught Assassins Creed thinking it would be the game of the year...only to be highly dissapointed with its Mundane Repetition...so i took it back and picked up Fable. iv had my eye on Fable since 2005 but never really gave it the time of day until now...

i guess i should thank Assassins Creed for sucking..because i absolutely LOVE the customization that Fable offers as far as changing your Look to selling your equipment to buying houses and getting married. this is the direction games NEED to be going in when it comes to putting the player in Complete Control of the game they have purchased. its kind of like the Sims meets Assassins Creed. you dont even have to beat the game to enjoy all it has to offer. i spend all my time killing thieves in different sections and taking their money, finding treasures and pawning them and investing in new homes and getting multiple wives.

iv only had it for 2 days now but its definately worth the purchase for only 10 bucks. pick it up if your bored with Assassins Creed and you like the Sims.

iLL .

I bought the original Fable when it came out, and it quickly became one of my most re-played games. I was thrilled when TLC came out, with new content! My only problem with it is that I expected a lot more content early on in the game, instead of having to play a hour or so before getting to anything new. I am very pleased with the purchase.
Fable = Excellent - Review written on December 08, 2007

Rating: 5 out of 5

I have not played the lost chapters yet. But I owned this title when it came out for about a year and enjoyed it very much. A lot of people are complaining about the control schemes for magic users and I found it to be absolutely fine. There are hot keys that you hold down to access your spells quickly in midcombat without having to load another screen or cycle through a slot and pull a trigger. It's all set up so you hold a button and hit another button and it works pretty seamlessly for me. You can also set up groups of spells that work well together (groups of three) so that you can access them together in battle and you can actually switch to your next group of hotkeyed spells pretty quickly.

It's a simplistic fun to play game. You can sink a lot of time into it and it's enjoyable. It's a dream game to me. Hidden special weapons to find. Side quests. Hack and slash fights and power ups and magic. Upgradable weapons and changable outfits and all kinds of items that effect the character's stats and alignment. Awesome. You can become more evil by eating baby chicks. I mean what more can you ask for seriously?
Fable: The Lost Chapters Worth a Revisit - Review written on December 07, 2007

Fable: The Lost Chapters is a fantastically replayable role-playing game for the original XBox. With an engrossing fantasy environment, exciting combat system, and sense of humor, Fable: TLC is a must-buy for an RPG fan who owns an Xbox. I personally plan on buying an XBox 360 for this game's sequel.

If you love the idea of a highly customizable character who is able to make constant moral decisions that affect how other characters treat him (not to mention your heroes own physical appearance), you should give this game a chance. The storyline is fleshed out considerably in The Lost Chapters edition, putting many pieces together and offering a new land for exploration.

The key question for most people reading this is whether The Lost Chapters is worth buying even if you already own the original Fable. It was definitely worth the purchase to me (especially now that the price has dropped this low). If you are interested in revisiting the world of Albion with a new unique character, you owe it to yourself to try out The Lost Chapters.

I bought this game when it came out and went through it as a warrior. I just came back to it and played through doing all the weapon quests and getting all of the special weapons. I have to say that it was so much fun to play the second time. I went through as a mostly good hero the first time. The second time I went through as a completely evil character and got Skorm's Bow (Special Weapon quest) before I did everything and played as a ranger/mage. Loved this game...feel that I got complete money spent value. It was an ambitious project the developers created. Would love to see a sequel.
