Glad to be Back to Using Corelle - Review written on September 05, 2008

I had read a couple of other reviews of this item stating that the first shipment wasn't packed well, resulting in damaged goods. That happened with my first shipment, too. I found the box on my doorstep, having been left by the carrier. When I picked it up, the broken glass could be heard and felt rolling around in the package. Amazon.com made it right though, and the second shipment was in perfect condition. The dishes go with anything, fit well into the dishwasher (one of my many complaints about the more expensive stoneware I've been using) and are very attractive. I would have given the product 5 stars, but the mugs are stoneware, made in CHINA. The same kind of mugs could be had at a "dollar store" for...well...a dollar. This is a return to Corelle for me, having used it for many years, and thinking I needed to "upgrade" to nicer dishes. No more. I'm sticking with Corelle from now on...
PERFECTLY WONDERFUL DISHES - Review written on May 24, 2008

Okay. I ordered these because we had had a number of illnesses the past couple of years ... and this year we felt like we were always sick (and with serious stuff like Flu as well). So, I am into sanitizing the dishes with high heat. I also felt that any of our older dishes might have worn glaze, and wasn't sure high heat would (one) break them, and (two) might not be penetrating enough if the glaze were worn in places.
So, on a doctor's advice, I looked for glass dishes. I saw these dishes in person at a store (higher priced), and loved the color! They are the same color as some Mikasa blanks (fine china that never had a pattern applied) I have as my fine china set. That impressed me. Anyhow, I ordered 12 place settings from here .. and they are gorgeous! They set a beautiful table. They take the high heat of our dishwasher's santitize feature quite well (I've had glass and dishes break from high heat before, so this impressed me). I did get rid of the mugs, as I am buying some glass ones made by Libby at a store nearby. But, they look really nice, and would make anyone happy on the table I think. They seem nice feeling holding them, have a good weight, etc.
Oh, and stacking the dishes is amazing! I think I could easily fit in another 12 place settings easily on top of the 12 I have in our cupboards ... and these are old cupboards with not a lot of room in them.
I highly recommend these dishes to anyone looking for something durable, that can take the high heat of sanitizing, and look great on a table, stack easily away, and are light weight to handle.
Nice dishes for the price - Review written on May 21, 2008

These Corelle dishes are good every day dishes...lightweight and easy to clean. They do not have the 'sheen' that they have in the picture, but are still pretty enough. My only complaint is with the shipping. Amazon did not pack them properly (no top or bottom cushioning) so the first two sets came already broken, so I refused delivery both times. However, amazingly they came all in one piece the third time, even though they were packed exactly the same as the first two. Also, the coffee mugs are NOT Corellewear, they are stonewear, and probably more easily broken, so you have to be extra careful with them. If you are looking for a good every day set of dishes, these make a nice set.

I had always wanted a set of Corelle dishes, but they were always too pricey for me. However, since my family started doing "zero waste" parties, etc., I needed to get some dishes which were lightweight, easy to clean and could stack easily in the dishwasher and the cupboard. No more paper plates or plastic for us! I purchased five sets of these dishes as the price was the best I'd ever seen. I LOVE them. I really, really, love them. I have a full set of 20 dinner plates, bowls, and small plates stacked in a very tiny space. They clean up sooo easily, plus I can run the dishwasher less since I can fit in so much more. Not only that, the dishes are quite simple and elegant. I was also very pleased with Amazon, because when two of the sets came damaged, they sent out two replacement sets very quickly and with no hassle. This is the first review I've ever written on Amazon despite being a years-long Amazon consumer. But, hey, that's how much I love those dishes!
Nice set, good value! - Review written on September 01, 2004

I just received the sets I ordered and am more than pleased. From the picture, I expected them to be a slightly darker shade of beige, but am happy to report the color matches the background color of many other Corelle patterns... not quite white, not quite beige. The solid color is elegant and neutral -- the better to show off culinary delights, or perhaps a beautiful tablecloth or centerpiece.
After half a century of living, the little things mean a lot to me. I appreciate Corelle's durability, reasonable price, ease of cleaning and forgiving properties. It also stacks nicely in a minimum of space, unlike heavy stoneware pieces. If a piece does eventually get broken it's not a big deal.... after all, I've never had a piece break during the first four or five years of use and I'm the Queen of Klutziness. I've found Corelle dinnerware to be very lightweight (a plus for those of us with arthritis) and forgiving (a plus for those of us who are dexterity-challenged) and extremely durable (a real plus during the "hurricane hour" before work and school, or when the kids gather at our house for a snack). I can stack three sets (12 place settings) in a minimum of cabinet space, and it's a breeze to load them in the dishwasher because they are very lightweight. I really like the mugs that come with this set, as they are heavier and the coffee stays hot longer than with some mugs. I have noticed in the past that the Corelle mugs have outlasted every other mug we purchased.
I did consider buying chinaware this time around.... for about a minute. I have seen so many "fine china" (partial) sets over the years -- usually covered with scratches and stains, sporting chips, nicks and flea bites. I suppose someone felt they couldn't throw them away because they were so expensive and "valuable." It amazes me that some people would spend up to several hundred dollars for china dinnerware... in fact, up to several hundered dollars per place setting. Yes, way.
Luxury comes in degrees, and is all relative. To most people in this world, Corelle dinnerware would likely seem quite luxurious, and I feel blessed to be able to afford it, and I'm thankful for the freedom and value it provides me, and the cleanup time it saves me every day, 365 days a year.
