A neat gaming experience - Review written on April 28, 2008

A while back, I picked up Gran Turismo 4 after having been turned off by other racing games such as Burnout and Need for Speed. I enjoyed the game much more than I thought I would, and played it quite a bit. Using the regular Play Station 2 controller was fine, but it wasn't great. I decided to try a wheel, and knew that I would get a lot of use out of it as I was still enjoying the game a lot. After much research and deliberation, I decided on this one and have been very pleased. I can get better lap times, more consistent driving maneuvers, and win higher point races than I could before with just the controller. However, using a game wheel is a very steep learning curve, and it takes a lot of patience to get used to. After having earned many of the higher power race cars, I had to go back to the really slow ones in order to learn the mechanics of the wheel. It took some time, but generally, using the wheel is very intuitive and quite exciting. It produces a whole new gaming experience that is very worthwhile to racing fans. I'm enjoying GT4 on a whole new level, and I'm looking forward now to trying out other racing games.
Great wheel for PS3, problematic pedals - Review written on December 11, 2007

I purchased this wheel specifically for use with a Playstation 3. There are two limitations with the PS3, since this was a PS2-specific design. First, the connection is USB-based, not wireless. The supplied cable is plenty long enough for my setup, though. Second, no PS button, meaning I have to have the SixAxis controller nearby for exiting the game, etc. All other controls are present and well-designed.
On the whole, I like the pedal setup just fine; it stays put, is easy enough to use, and having the ability to apply half or three-quarters throttle, rather than having to tap the controller button on-off-on-off to simulate that works very nicely. I have to downcheck the unit one star for the lack of reliability in the pedals, though. Mine failed after three days: the gas would cut off for no apparent reason, and the brakes would apply themselves randomly. Not a good trait when driving at a virtual 180 mph. :-) Amazon promptly replaced the unit, and so far, no problems with the new one, but a search on the internet reveals that many people have experienced similar problems, and applied various kludges to fix them.
Touch and control with the wheel is spectacular in the 900 degree mode (supported on the PS3 in GT5 HD Concept, and presumably in the full game when it ships). Less stellar in 200 degree mode (supported, for example, by Ridge Racer 7), but still quite usable. The force feedback and rumble work well. This would be a five-star product but for the questionable quality-control or design issue with the pedals.
Works on PC very well!! - Review written on October 26, 2007

This is indeed the DFP, even though amazon's title says just DF. I used the G25 drivers on the logitech website for my PC. Works beautifully!! I don't know why logitech doesn't advertise this as a PC wheel. 900 degrees of rotation takes a bit getting used to. You can set it anywhere between 40-900 degrees under game controller setup in windows. Lots of buttons on the wheels, but not paddle shifters. Its more like paddle buttons, but I like to use the stick shifter instead. I had a Nascar Thrustmaster Force previously, and the DFP is much better at producing FFB effects. In fact, I had to tone it down because it was strong at default settings. Its also a tad smaller than my previous wheel so I have more space on my desk to mount it. The brake and gas pedals also have different spring tensions which makes it a little more realistic. The gears still make a lot of noise as with the Thrustmaster when turning, but its definitely smoother. I don't feel the 'notchiness' of the gears. Playing GT2, GTL, LFS, and Richard Burns Rally with it.
I don't have a PS2, but from the reviews it should work great also.
Logitech Driving Force Wheel - Review written on September 24, 2007

Great wheel for Play Station and PC gaming. Force feedback is better than the MOMO, but overall comfort of the wheel and control layout is not as good. The shifter is very easy to accidentally bump, or shift up and down when you go to grab a gear. I liked the MOMO wheel far better, but the force feedback effects had all but disappeared over the years I owned it. If you want a good wheel to move between PC and Play Station, this wheel is a great high quality, low cost choice. Force feedback is very powerful, and realistic when you get it set up correctly. Keep in mind that quite few games require reversing the feedback effects, or entering a negative values in order for the wheel to work properly. I think Logitech could do a better job of promoting the wheel for use on the PC, it really wasn't clear to me when I made the purchase, but was very happy to find it actually works great on the computer.

ok, i've had this wheel for over a month, not a day goes by without me or my kids playing with it. i'm a simulator fan GT3, GT4, Fomula 1, etc... the kids like the arcade, drift style games (Midnight Club, Ridge Racer, Rally, etc) We've brought out our older racing titles and tested it for many games. GT4 is the best, because it has the 900 degree option! it may not be too helpful, but its nice to have a little extra room. it goes to 200 degree operation automaticly for other games.
The force feedback is VERY strong! It wouldn't stay on my 8 or 13yr olds lap at all, and we ended up getting the PLAYSEATS EVOLUTION Racing Chair-Seat from Amazon-Target... WELL WORTH THE INVESTMENT! if almost $500 for a chair and controller is out of your pricerange, Get a second job! ITS WORTH IT! And if you are a die hard racing nut like myself, You will not be disappointed...
Before we had the seat, we tried it on a TV tray, Computer desk, Table... ETC... it clamps onto things nicely, but the foot-pedals kept sliding on my best laps and making me lose control! (i'd get too excited, and push it too hard ...LEAD FOOT!) The seat is much better for holding it, Plus - your sitting position is more relaxed.
I passed EVERY LEVEL on the old games that I couldn't beat before! -The Wheel is purely Awesome- I have no -cons- for this unit... I dont use the shifter (i use the paddles in F1 games)... it's a good deal even at over $100!
I dont recomend it for younger kids under 10, it's a very precise controller, and very sensitive foot pedals, it may be "Too Real" for kids who want to jump on it and slide around on mario kart!
Overall, The Controller works PERFECT! and I would BEG you to BEG your mom, or Girlfriend, or Wife(in my case) to Get you THIS and the Seat for Christmas or your Birthday... if she doesn't, she doesn't truly love you! (Yeah! it's That Good!) Tell her I'm using my real name, She can TRUST ME!
This is a very good wheel. - Review written on February 14, 2007

This is a very good wheel. I received it for christmas before GT4 came out. It wasn't so great with GT3 but that's more GT3's fault than the wheel's. For GT4, it's great but as some other reviewers have said, it takes a little getting used to. Once you're used to it though, you'll never want to go back to anything less. If you play GT4, you should have this wheel.
By the way, the proper name for this wheel is the Driving Force Pro (or DFP). Amazon needs to fix that in the page.
I recently started playing PC racing simulators and found that the DFP works great with GTR2, rFactor and Live For Speed. I use XP and found that I needed to download and run Logitech Gaming Software (LGS) and set up for games in its profiler. This was a bit confusing because Logitech lists no downloads for the DFP since they consider it a PS2 wheel in spite of it using a USB connection. Recent versions of the LGS do seem to fully support it though so I could use it in full 900 degree mode with independent brake/accelerator pedal settings and get it calibrated properly. GTR2, rFactor and Live For Speed are more realistic driving simulators than GT3/4 so a good wheel becomes even more important.
I mount it on a good solid computer desk. No problems with the mount. I would like it if the USB cable could be unplugged from the wheel housing. It's the only really annoying cable for me. I leave the pedals under the desk and run the power and pedal cables over the back of the desk and leave the ends in front of my monitor when not plugged in. I can't do that with the USB cable because it's attached to the wheel housing so when I pull the wheel off the desk, the cable has to go with it.
I'm somewhat tempted by the G25 due to the clutch pedal and realistic shifter but really, the DFP is so good otherwise that it's hard to justify the big jump in $$$ for the G25. There are also some features on the DFP I like better such as having controller buttons on the wheel rather than on the shifter housing as the G25 does.
Far better control, actual racing possible - Review written on August 22, 2006

Playing GT4 with the controller is fun, playing it with the wheel takes the game to a whole new level. This wheel in particular is very nice, and the force feedback works great.
Make sure you have a good setup to put it on though, it hooks onto a table, which can be inconvenient and difficult. I have it set up with a TV tray in a very uncomfortable position, and have since demolished the tray.
The wheel is completely worth it, the only drawback is needing a good setup, and that is not a flaw in the wheels design, it just makes it interesting figuring out the best setup.
