Works Even Better than My Original OXO Peeler - Review written on June 23, 2008

I have a 10-yr old OXO peeler that is still sharp but looking ratty - the white handle has gotten very stained. After checking several typical kitchen stores locally I couldn't find the same OXO model and was so glad to find this on Amazon.

This new OXO peeler feels great and a definite improvement over my old ratty OXO peeler (that I still love). Its bigger and heavier than the old peeler but the added weight and balance makes peeling effortless. This thing is sturdy enough that I even peel butternut squash with it! Very happy with this purchase indeed and am getting this for other family members who also love to cook.

I've had this peeler for several months now, and can't say a bad thing about it. This is without a doubt the best peeler I've used.

This peeler is a replacement for the previous style that Oxo has been making for many years. My old one, after years of use, broke recently and I was debating whether to get this one or the old version, which I really liked. I'm glad I picked the newer style. I love the heft of the handle that makes peeling easier and the little doohicky on the end to get out bad spots is a big improvement over the old one.

I was skeptical that there could be a significant difference in the performance of vegetable peelers, but this is a great tool! Well balanced and comfortable, with a super-sharp blade... it makes quick work of potatoes. I like that the blade is replaceable; helps to make it more economical as the years go by.

I bought this peeler because my old one was not doing it's job. I heard about OXO by researching another product and realized their quality ratings. I'm very satisfied with the way this peeler performs. I highly rate it for those who want something to do right all the time.

I've had the same potato peeler for the past five years and I thought it was perfect for what I needed. And it was. I finally had to buy a peeler for my mum and looked around for a similar (non-swivel) model and could not find any. I'm always leery about sharper objects twisting a bit, so I thought I'd give it a try. Boy have I been missing out...

The peeler does a fast and fantastic job of cleaning potatoes without the skipping you may get from older, duller peelers. I don't feel threatened by overly sharp edges on it. Works well whether my hands are wet or not - no slipping around at all. Rinses quickly and retains its finish. And of course, has the usual Oxo "comfy grip." Overall, it's wonderful buy for the price.

Although, I don't do a large amount of vegetable peeling, when I do, I want it to be easy; and this swivel peeler certainly does that. It is extremely sharp and peels potatoes, carrots and apples with ease. It's also very comfortable to use. If you've every had your hand cramp up after peeling several apples for a pie, you know how important that is. I bought the replacement blades at the same time as the peeler but wonder if I'll ever have to use them. Oxo makes great products, and I've never been unhappy with any of them. I'm very satisfied with this peeler and highly recommend it.

This has got to be the best peeler design in HISTORY!!! I use to hate peeling potatoes until I bought this peeler. I also bought one for my daughter and step-mom and they both absolutely love it! Try it I guarantee you'll love it. They also offer replacement blades for this item. Sounds kinda crazy to be so excited about a peeler, but try it you will be too....

I purchased a new peeler to put in a second area in the kitchen. Only thing is my old peeler works slightly better and it is a lot older. I don't like the idea that I can purchase a new blade on this one either. Heck, I'd rather not bother with changing blades and just buy a new one. Just doesn't do it for me.
Best peeler so far - Review written on January 07, 2008

This is best peeler I've bought so far. I have been searching for the perfect peeler and had recently purchased a Zyliss peeler. The Zyliss peeler is also very good, but I think I like the OXO better. The OXO is much heavier and easier to grip than any other peeler, so you don't slip and accidentally shave your finger. It's more expensive, but I think it's worth it after buying a lot of cheap ones that just rust or are too dull.

Who knew that having a sharp new peeler blade could transform food prep? This is a comfortable, well-designed tool. The little end scoop doesn't look adequate but in fact it's perfectly up to the task of removing potato eyes and blemishes on fruit.

This peeler makes the quickest work ever of heavy-duty peeling jobs, like winter
squashes. The little scraper cup at the top of the peeler is a great bonus.
It makes short work of getting rid of the strings inside winter squashes
after deseeding. It also enabled me to peel an eggplant (another generally
frustrating kitchen job) in record time! The best peeler I ever used (and
I've tried em all).

We have been using this peeler for a number of months now. Before this, we were using the OXO peeler which was always considered good. That is, until this peeler came into the house. With no excepetions, this is absolutely the best peeler you will use. Great construction, very sharp (blade guard included), and you can purchase replacement blades. The blades slides thru potatoes, carrots, even butternut squash. We were so impressed we bought a bunch as gifts for both side of our families. You will not be sorry if you purchase this peeler!

takes effort. I was unaware that that one was actually made that takes the effort out of it. I intend to purchase these peelers for gifts for
the older folks like me. I hope Ecko forgives me.

When I first received my i-Series peeler, I was impressed. Heavy, balanced ... wow, couldn't believe I only paid $10.

That was six months ago. Now that I have been using it for a significant period of time I am more impressed than I was initially.

Here's why.

1. The blades are not only incredibly sharp and replaceable, but, you can also flip the blade so that you gain the benefit of using both sides. Most peelers go in the recycling box with one side of the blade still sharp because the blade is permanently fixed.

2. After six months, I am still on my first blade and it's still sharp. You can replace and flip the blade, and since it's removable, you can also thoroughly clean it, which helps keep it sharp.

Every time I show the i-series peeler to someone, they buy it.

OXO did an excellent job designing this product.

Ok, I'm a beginner cook and let me tell you...this is the absolute BEST peeler I could've EVER gotten!! It's SO easy to peel things! I just used it for the first time last night peeling cucumbers and boy oh boy, was it a whiz!!! Just about a week and a half ago, I was using a knife to peel things and it took FOREVER!! Now I'm looking for other things to peel cause this thing just works that good!! Just a *take care* heads up...watch your fingers around the blade cause that sucker works!! I haven't cut myself on it (yet), but I've read some of the other reviews and I can definitely agree, that blade is sharp! You definitely gotta pick yourself up one of these peelers! You WON'T regret it!

I'm a creature of habit and when I like a product I stick with it. I was happy with my cheap Ecko peeler for years and years, and when I was down to my last one (yes, I stockpile) I hurriedly checked Amazon for a replacement. Well, they didn't have an Ecko peeler. Yipe! But there were excellent reviews for the OXO Good Grips so I thought I'd try it. It was like walking out of the dark ages. A great hand grip, smooth action; it never feels like you're fighting the vegetable. And it has replacement blades. Well worth the money. Thanks again Amazon!

I laughed when my mother said that one potato peeler was better than another. But then I tried using hers and I stopped laughing. If you normally use a peeler (that is, if you are not a tried-and-true knife-wielding peeler) you should try one of these. Borrow a friend's if you must. I don't know why the handle should make such a difference; you'd think the blade was the important part. Maybe the blade is better quality too, who knows. But it makes a world of difference to the person who is peeling, so much easier to peel, better control, whatever. I don't know. But the difference is amazing. I have one now, you betcha!

After you get one for yourself, you might be like me and end up buying them for every bridal shower's wishing well.

Extremely a"peeling" - Review written on April 12, 2007

Ever use a peeler that works but the peels are so thick that a potato or carrot is only a shadow of it's former self after peeling? The blade in this peeler is very thin and sharp. I noticed in peeling a cucumber for the first time with this, that the skin was removed effortlessly and quickly, but the peel was shallow enough to leave the vitamin rich inner pith that is just under the skin of most vegetables. The blade has a small plastic snap-on shield to protect it from damage in the drawer and also from losing any skin while digging around to locate it. The blade is also replaceable so that super sharp function will always be there. As all OXO Good Grips, it has a tactile feel and great fit in the hand. FYI it's probably best just to rinse this off and pat dry as opposed to throwing it in a dish washer to keep the blade corrosion free and razor sharp. Who knew peeling potatoes could be less of a chore.

Get this and the I-series Y peeler. and some extra blades, although i am not sure if i will need them for a while.... This redefines sharp. It simply glides. Not sure why they put a potato eyer on the y model, esp since I'm left-handed and you have to flip it to use. but certainly works great on this ambidextrous model. Pick these up for yourself and for those you love.

No I don't own OXO stock. Check out the i-series can opener. smart design.

7 STARS ! Having been a Head Chef (4 STAR Hotel in Hampton Court - Henry VIII's Palace) in a previous life, I know the benefits of using a highly efficient tool to make a boring repetitive task bearable. After thoroughly researching the market, I came a cross this little beauty. It even makes peeling spuds - FUN ! Shush ! don't tell anyone I said that, as I don't want to be thought of as SAD. It does its job superbly well, and is a joy to use.

NOTE: In use, I found the swivel peeler to be better for rounder items such as Spuds, and the Y peeler better for longer items such as Carrots and Parsnips. Horses for courses.

When something exceeds your expectations by a country mile, then it must be really good. BUY IT NOW, you won't regret it. Its macho boyfriend, the i-Series Y Peeler, is also superb, and is also a BUY IT NOW !

If you buy both, you will make them very happy, as they can then canoodle together in the drawer in the dark !

I bought this peeler based on reviews by Cooks Illustrated and agree with their reviews. The stainless steel blade means no rust and have not seen rust yet after months of use. It glides through potato skin like butter. Carrots are even smoother. I wanted a hefty peeler for butternut squash and this peeler does a much better job then my previous favorite peeler from Tupperware. I highly recommend this peeler.

One vegetables peeler is as good as another right? That's what I thought. But when ATC rated this the best peeler and one of mine broke the same day, I tried this one. Less costly than several premium peelers, I was skeptical. When I got it home and tried it out, WOW was all that I could say, this really is the best peeler that I've ever used! It balances more like a knife than other models I've used, and the edge stays sharp. The swivel is smooth which makes for fewer passes on the vegetable saving time. If the edge ever dulls I can pick up a three pack of replacement blades for less than $5. Oxo really has a winner here! Works as well left or right handed.

The design of this peeler is excellent. It's easy to grip, and you can reverse or replace the blade. But what really counts is the blade is sharp! Razor sharp! It works so easily it doesn't feel as if you're actually cutting. It comes with a plastic shield for the blade. I suggest you keep it and use it when you store the peeler to preserve that marvelous edge.
