It's amazing what a simple kitchen gadget can do when it comes to simplifying daily domestic bliss, I no longer have to play chasing games with the food escaping flat wooden spoons as if in a roller rink. This is my second pair of kitchen tongs, first being made of cheap metal with scratchy parts that I don't use ever unless this one is dirty or missing and I am definitely planning on getting more, the 12 inch looks great for when I'm digging in big pots and pans since this is more of a stove top tong for use in shallower cooking vessels. These have a little rubber loop at the end that opens the tongs for use when pushed and keeps them closed when pulled; I can't even admit how many times I was so wrapped up in my cooking with all my hands busy that I pulled that thing with my teeth, and still got it closed without hurting myself, now I don't recommend doing that but it just shows how in sync this tool becomes with the user.
Oxo is a pretty reliable brand; these are truly wonderful and one can't beat the price! I've been using this pair since April and they are always helping me out, whether its turning over meats and anything I'm grilling or tossing stuff in marinades, lifting bacon or anything cooking in hot liquid or oil safely and best of all the plastic tips are large and rounded and don't scratch the pans I care about. These are pretty agile as well; the tips allow for me to reach anything I need precisely without damaging the food and the 9 inch length makes them feel like an extension of my own hand and not a cumbersome tool. These are fantastic and everyone can find uses in their kitchen and home with these.

I needed tongs to use with my non-stick pans and these are great. I use them all the time, like the nonstick and the locking feature. You generally can't go wrong with OXO products.

A good pair of tongs that don't scratch my cookware - Review written on August 14, 2008

This pair of tongs has a good grip, and good nylon tips. My only gripe is that the arms of the tongs could be a bit easier to clean, but it is a good utensil over all.
No dishwasher safe? - Review written on August 02, 2008

These are great tongs. The other zillion people rating them should have you convinced of that by now. Even though I'm very satisfied I'm going to concentrate on my complaints instead of their virtues.
Cons(-)
- hard to get clean without a dishwasher. The arms are not closed but curve under towards the food side, making a long skinny cave for stuff to hide.
- The rubber grips on the arms are far from heat safe. I'm not sure how they ever got exposed to direct heat there without my hand burning up first, but they did.
Neutral
- In retrospect a longer pair would make some jobs easier. Nine inches is really only right for the stove top.
Pros (+)
- Many, see the other reviews.
- Notably the locking design is vastly superior to the foolish old ring design, what were we ever thinking?
Verdict: buy 'em.

This is "The Tong" in our kitchen. I mean, we have others but this is always the first one that my wife and me grabs first when cooking. We use it for frying as well as to turn barbecues. Bought 4 years ago and still working fine.
Pros:
-Soft tip. It will not scratch your pans.
-Locking. You pull the rubber tip to lock it and push to unlock. This preserve some valuable space inside the kitchen drawers.
-Rubberized grip to prevent slipping.
Cons:
-The soft tip is not completely heat proof. It will burn if you accidentally lay it too close to the fire. It will melt if you fry at very high heat.

I would have five of these in my kitchen if I could, I'm always finding a use for them. I also love to give them as wedding gifts because they are so useful and not many people have them. Recently the husband of a couple I gave them to thanked and told me he uses them all the time! I'm pretty sure that Cook's Illustrated highly recommended Oxo Good Grips tongs - I certainly love them.

I use this quite often with my cooking. Great for many uses; turning meat, veggies as they brown, lifting out of pan to serve, barbecuing, etc.
It protects my nonstick pans from being scratched. Quite simply, I love these tongs! The 12-inch length is better than the 8-inch too.

Nice grip, nice size. Great for tossing instead of using those huge bbq size tongs. Also stores nicely in kitchen drawer full of "stuff". Locking works well too.

These are great tongs. I have them in the nylon tips and metal. They actually grip food great and the locking feature is a definite plus. I use the nylon on my nonstick pans and the metal for grilling. I have both sizes. Other brands I have bought always have problems with gripping the food and the locking feature. I endorse these.

We needed tongs for our non stick pans and this pair is great..not to big and not too small. I love the fact that they have a lock to keep them closed in our kitchen drawer when not used.

Yea! OXO! I bought the long pair and the short pair. I love the pull button on the handle that locks the tongs shut to hold food or just to keep the tongs together for storage. Black part is easy gripping and safety from heated metal. Arthritis friendly and ergonomic!

The nylon tips are great for non-stick pans, although I'm wondering why OXO hasn't made them with silicone tips -- it seems everything is silicone these days. I use these ALOT, love the locking feature.

Finally, tongs where the locking mechanism is strong enough to actually lock the tongs for more than a week. Also, great for use in non-stick pans.

I liked the length of the 12 inch, at first I thought it would be too long for cooking (because of the size that Rachel Ray uses) but I found the size just perfect and feel like it gives me a lot of control. There's a hole at the end of the handle so you can hang it on a hook or nail.

I purchased this one to go with my 12 inch ones. I love these! I use them for serving nearly everything we eat from pasta, to salad, to chicken nuggets. I love that they lock closed for storage in the drawer. These shorter ones are especially handy at the table to serve.

These tongs are the greatest. They reliably lock closed so they don't go springing open in the drawer. They can also hang and look stylish with the rest of your tools. Easy to clean and hard to damage...great choice if you really use your kitchen gadgets.
Snatch It Up - Review written on January 07, 2008

Wonderful product! The only way it could be better is if the nylon heads withstood heat to 600 degrees. The locking feature makes it a pleasure to store, and retrieve. Unlike most metal tongs, the nylon heads are gentle on food, and the coated handle relieves hands from heat.
Must have for non-stick pans! - Review written on December 24, 2007

These tongs work really well, similar to their non-nylon headed counterparts, but you don't have to worry about scratching your pans with these! I have used these in really hot pans and have not experienced any melting or degradation with the tips like some of the other people have mentioned in their reviews. I have been so pleased with my set that I purchased another for a family member receiving a new non-stick pot/pan set that she's receiving from us for Christmas! (sssshhhh! she doesn't know yet!) :) Protects your pans from scratching, locks easily and tightly for compact storage, comfortable grips on handles. A must use for non-stick pan users!
I would prefer silicone, but these are decent - Review written on December 18, 2007

These tongs have a substantial feel to them and are long enough so that you can flip and move food without being exposed to heat or splatter. Since I have nonstick cookware, I knew that the stainless steel-tipped ones would not meet my needs. These tongs were very reasonably-priced and the locking feature, once you become accustomed to it, is helpful.

I love these tongs...what more can I say? They are my # 1 go-to tool in the kitchen. I have the 9 & 12-inch versions, but if I had to go with one, I would recommend the larger one - it's a littler more versatile, but they are both fabulous to have. I scarcely cook a meal without busting these bad boys out... I love them, and you will too!

The lock mechanism on the top allows me to lock these closed for easy storage in my utensil carousel while the plastic ends don't scratch my non-stick skillet. That's why I bought these tongs, that's why I use them all the time, and that's why I'm keeping them. I have never had bad luck with any OXO product.

I had three pairs of not-entirely-satisfactory tongs in my kitchen that I wanted to replace. These OXO tongs are top-rated by America's Test Kitchen, and the review there pointed out that they have a gentle scallop that won't tear delicate foods.
These are great! They come with either metal or nylon heads - I opted for the nylon so as not to scratch non-stick surfaces (I may get a metal pair later since one reviewer mentioned they can melt with high heat). The ring at the top pulls up to lock them closed, so they store easily in a drawer. They are dishwasher safe, so clean up is a snap. They are very comfortable in the hand and the rubber inserts in the handle make for a good grip. The tongs handle a heavy steak easily, and the slightly cupped heads provide a sure grip on food. They also have the dexterity to pick up lighter items such as garlic toast.
A great item at a reasonable price!

I love these tongs. They lock closed for easy storage. They come in a range of lengths. They are coated at the tips so they don't scratch your pans. You can use them to flip over meats or to scrape up the brown bits from the bottom of the pan for a sauce. Excellent addition to any kitchen.

I went through many years of cooking without having tongs for kitchen use (did use them for BBQ) and I did not think I needed any. I needed a filler item and purchased these. These tongs are great! I have used them much more than I expected. I have the 9" size which is great for general kitchen use and compact enough to store in my gadget drawer. I wanted tongs that would not scratch my nonstick cookware and these are just right. The nylon heads work fine and I have not had any issues with them melting from heat. They are comfortable to use. I use the tongs for turning items during pan frying and oven roasting and for tossing spaghetti and long noodles with sauce and serving.

These are some great quality tongs. These will hold up to some tough home use. To tell you the truth, I have seen commercial tongs that were not this good.
The nylon heads worried me because I thought they might melt....Nope! Not yet.
