Must have for those lacking a DC.... - Review written on May 29, 2008

I used my DW735 for a couple hundred bdft of lumber before buying this attachment because I couldn't see paying $[...] for a bag with hose attached. Without this or a DC you will have mounds of shavings and dust saturating the air. You also lose a sizable portion of valuable shop space because anything in this area will be COVERED with crap everytime you use the planer. I got a NIB attachment from a WW'ing board for about $[...] and honestly its some of the best $$$ I've spent on WW equipment. Sure it lets out some dust but for what it is, it does an incredible job.

DEWALT DW7353 Chip Collection Accessory for DW735 Planer It works really great, I can use it in my shop, and not have chips all over. You really need to hang the hose as in the directions.
I would reccommend it.

I an not happy with this product. The concept is good, but the bag leaves much to be desired. The planer has more than enough air flow to get the chips to the can, but dust was all over the place. After seeing one of the other reviews with similar comments I will look for a new bag also.

I was not happy with Accessory kit for my planer. It did a terrible job. I ended up buying a bag from another manufacturer that attached to the hose. With this bag, I had more dust outside than inside the container that I was trying to put it into. Look for something else to work with your planer.
Great Product for the Money - Review written on October 11, 2007

Used the DW735 without a collector when my shop vac died. Purchased this chip collector the next day after the mess I had to clean up. I bought a large trash can from local store and within 10 minutes, was planing with virtually no dust. Great improvement from trying to use a too small shop vac or certainly better than using nothing at all!!. Great quality, good price. Dewalt should make this accessory a part of a planer "kit". Unless you have a central dust control system, buy this product before the first board goes through the planer.

Item works well for collecting chips, greatly reduces dust and is a great alternative to a dust collection system. I would suggest using a metal garbage can or a 55-gallon drum. Also, secure the hood with a band clamp or ratchet strap, the one provide is not quite strong enough.
Gets 98% of Dust. - Review written on August 14, 2007

This unit is perfect for the DW735. I put it over a trash can and you could here the chips going into the can instead of all over my garage. You will get a small amount of very fine dust but lets face it, you would spend 250 dollars or more on a recovery system and where would you put it. When I am done I tap out the tube and empty the trash can outside. Best value for dollar Dewalt has put out.

Dewalt DW 7353 Chip collection Accessory - Review written on June 09, 2007

Excellent solution for collecting chips from planing lumber. To use this system, I purchased a plastic trash can from a local hardware store along with large plastic bags. I insert a plastic bag in the trash can and attached the Dewalt DW 7353 Chip Collection System to the trash can, then to my Dewalt DW 7353 Planer.
When the DW735 Planer is in use, it transfers the chips to the can. Clean up is relatively easy, by removing the Chip Collection bag from trash can and removing the plastic bag full of chips.
The two disadvantages of the system are (1) chip buildup between the rim of the trash can and where the accessory bag attaches to the can and (2) occasionally the accessory bag will break away from the trash can which causes chips to fall on the floor.
Overall, I recommend this system even with the two disadvantages because it save hours of cleanup and it is the cheapest solution to chip collection that I have found.

This accessory kit contains a 10 foot hose and a filter bag with a drawstring so the bag can be placed over the top of a trash can from 5 gallon bucket up. As the chips exhaust from this planer like a hurricane, this is a great way to tame and collect them. It works quite well and I cant imagine using this planer without it.

this item is a must. It catches nearly all the wood shavings and there is very little to clean up. Very good purchase.

Nice, but not really necessary - Review written on April 06, 2007

This is a nice attachment for the Dewalt planer, but all that is really needed is a shop vac hose going into a trash can. I wish it came with a slightly longer hose. The dust collection on the DW735 is already great without spending all the extra money on a hose just because it says DeWalt on it.
Great for the price - Review written on March 15, 2007

If you can afford it, buy a fancy dust collection set up.
If not this works pretty good.

I have a 20x40 shop with quite a few tools and had a problem with the chips and dust from my planer. The collection method is great for the chips, but I still get a little dust out of the bag, which is alright concidering the amoount I had gotten before. I do us a leaf bag in the 55 gallon plastic barrell and this tends to let the sides slide off the top of the barrell if I don't get it tight enough.
Okay for small Jobs - Review written on February 21, 2007

Works for small jobs, But doesn't catch the fine dust.. For large jobs you will need a real duct collector.

The DeWalt 735 should be called a chip blower because that's what it does best. This product works great. Planer blades go away quickly leaving ridges in every board foot, inch acually. Does anybody at DeWalt read these reviews?

This device works fairly well although using it is similair to working with a mower bag. Some of the dust will escape when you release the device etc. This device is a chip collector not a dust collector as the fabric is very thin and light weight(hence the name chip collector). Overall however, the collector does a good job with the planer waste (chips) as does the DW735 Planer. The $40+ price tag is somewhat steep in my opinion so make sure you get free shipping to keep the cost down. Overall, a good product with 4 stars due to the price.
Must have for small shop. - Review written on January 15, 2007

I have a small shop without a dust collection system so I tried to use a small shop vac to collect the Chips from my planer but the volume of air blew off the top of my shop vac. So I ordered the Chip collection accessory. It works great! You do need to use a trash can with a lip on it to retain the bag while in use. There is a small amount of dust that escapes thru the bag but I don't consider it any problem, considering the clean up after using my saw or router.

This was a little disappointment. I hope to figure out a way to keep the sawdust from blowing out of the sides. It doesn't seal well, but it does catch most of the sawdust. Maybe 3/4 of it.

I purchaesd this so I could remove my Dewalt 735 Planer from my dust collection system and use a seperate trash can with a trash bag. I used a plastic trash can first with the brackets for the handles cut away so the bag would fit tighter to the can. The planer blows the sawdust out with so much force that it kept blowing the bag off the can. I next tried a steel trash can. Same problem. Contrary to all my other Dewalt tools, I'm very disappointed with this chip collector.
DW7353 Makes Chip Collecting Easy - Review written on May 14, 2004

Not having space for a dust collection system, the blower on the DW735 helped me decide on the DW735 planer. The planer works really well at evacuating the chips and chip collection is a necessity. I tried using a trash can that I had but some dust came out around the handles; the handles were molded up near the can opening keeping the hood from a tight fit. I bought a 33 gallon Roughneck wheeled container at Lowe's that had a lip all around the edge and that solved the problem. I put plastic bags in the can and the hood over everything and get no escaped dust and easy emptying. The instructions say to not let the hose lay over the side of the can. I put a "J" hook in the ceiling and use a rope loop to hold up the hose so it's adjustable and out of the way, simple and effective. This thing works just as it should - I'm very pleased.

Wow! Am I glad I got this with my plainer. It collects almost all the chips and dust from the plainer. The drawstring top for the trashcan makes it very versitile. I have a very, very small shop so the ability to use a smaller trashcan adds to it's value. Using the plainer without it creates a huge mess. If you haven't used a plainer before and are forewarned on the amoung of sawdust you'll still be amazed. If you don't have a central system to hook your plainer up to, I highly recommend getting this. It will be worth every penny. I got is even though another rater talked about the hose inconviently located right above the outfeed table and it can get in the way, but I simply pull the hose up over the top of the machine and it's no problem. Again, if you don't have a central collection system...get this.
