Another enjoyable season - Review written on May 05, 2007
Rating: 4 out of 5
We are into the heart of the Friends 9-season series, and it shows: the writing is as crisp as it gets, and the characters are still new enough that we don't get the repeating storylines that crop up unfortunately in later seasons. Even Phoebe's stories are interesting and semi-normal, in a Friends kind of way (i.e. a seemingly normal relationship with a cop gives rise to a number of nifty subplots such as the boys being scared in a ride-along). It's certainly a welcome relief from her demented Season 4 thread of giving birth to her brother's triplets.
However, the meat of the season is the development of the Chandler-Monica relationship. Much of the humour is driven by Monica's competitiveness and the universal thought that although Chandler is seen as making a great catch, Monica could "do better". For example, when Monica discovers Phoebe and her new beau have had a "rendezvous" in Central Park, Monica tries to talk Chandler into an even riskier adventure in a public restroom.
Finally, with the departure of Ugly Naked Guy, the show has finally lost all the silly go-to, cheap-laugh gimmicks that detracted from the re-watchability of the earliest seasons. It also leads to the funniest moment of the season: Ross and Ugly Naked Guy having tea together .... naked, of course! In fact, nudity abounds in this season, with Ross mistakingly getting a show from a naked Rachel dancing alone in her apartment, among others.
There is one interesting extra - an extended (~1 hour) look at filming the show including looks into the writer's room and tape of fans in the studio audience laughing it up with the warm-up comic. There is very little in addition to this one extra, though - a few Entertainment Tonight-like clips of the cast and crew in London, a couple commentaries (with almost no new information we don't already know from previous commentaries), etc. However, it is a pleasure to see the cast and the writers at their peaks, and the re-watchablility of this season is one of the highest of the series.
Love it, as always. - Review written on January 17, 2007

Here's a quick overview I wrote for each of the episodes:
The One After Ross Says Rachel: After Ross says Rachel's name instead of Emily's at his wedding, they try and work something out. Monica and Chandler decide to continue their affair.
The One With All The Kissing: Rachel attempts to apologize to Emily, which doesn't go over well. Chandler and Monica hit a rough spot after returning to New York.
The One Hundredth: Phoebe goes into labor and gives birth to triplets. Joey gets kidney stones and is hospitalized as well.
The One Where Phoebe Hates PBS: Joey gets a gig on PBS but Phoebe isn't pleased. Monica tries desperately to hid her affair with Chandler from Rachel.
The One With The Kips: Emily and Ross try and fix their marriage, but Emily has a demand: Ross cannot speak to Rachel anymore. Chandler and Monica go to Atlantic City.
The One With The Yeti: Monica and Rachel meet a hairy neighbor. Ross attempts to de-Rachelize his apartment.
The One Where Ross Moves In: Ross moves in with Chandler and Joey. Rachel and hairy neighbor Danny talk.
The One With The Thanksgiving Flashbacks: The gang reminisces about their worst Thanksgivings.
The One With Ross's Sandwich: Ross loses it after someone at work eats his Thanksgiving leftovers sandwich. Joey threatens to crack under the pressure of being the only one knowing about Chandler and Monica.
The One With The Inappropriate Sister: Rachel and Danny start dating with the help of Monica, but Rachel has second thoughts after observing his relationship with his sister.
The One With All The Resolutions: Everyone makes resolutions...Ross's being that he will wear leather pants on a date. A classic!
The One With Chandler's Work Laugh: Monica uncovers Chandler's fake laugh. Ross discovers Emily is getting re-married.
The One With Joey's Bag: Rachel changes Joey's image in order to help him land an acting gig.
The One Where Everybody Finds Out: Phoebe finds out about the Monica/Chandler affair, and tests Chandler via flirtation. Ugly Naked Guy's Apartment goes up for rent and Ross tries to get it.
The One With The Girl Who Hits Joey: Joey's new girlfriend Katie packs a painful punch. Ross has trouble making friends with his new neighbors.
The One With The Cop: Phoebe finds a police badge inside the Central Perk sofa. Joey has a romantic dream about Monica.
The One With Rachel's Inadvertent Kiss: After a job interview, Rachel impulsively kisses her potential boss on the cheek. Phoebe and Gary vie for "steamiest-affair" with Monica and Chandler.
The One Where Rachel Smokes: Rachel takes up smoking at her new job at Ralph Lauren in order to make inroads with her new boss. Ross's son Ben competes with Joey for a spot on a soup commercial.
The One Where Ross Can't Flirt: Ross has trouble flirting with the pizza delivery girl. Joey's Italian speaking Grandmother comes over and watches Joey on his Law and Order debut.
The One With The Ride Along: Chandler, Ross and Joey go for a ride with Phoebe's cop boyfriend Gary--and Ross has a near death experience. Emily has second thoughts about her marriage.
The One With The Ball: Phoebe discovers Gary is going to ask her to move in with him, and asks Chandler to talk him out of it. Rachel buys a sphinx cat.
The One With Joey's Big Break: Joey lands a lead role in a movie being shot in Las Vegas, but fights with Chandler after Chandler doubts it will be Joey's "big break".
The One In Vegas (two parts): Monica and Chandler decide to celebrate their one year anniversary in Vegas, and the whole gang comes to visit Joey. While playing craps with Monica, Chandler makes the bet of a lifetime.
Great followup to season 4 - Review written on May 31, 2006

Season 5 is another strong season overall for Friends and represents the show while it was on a high. This season saw Monica and Chandler trying to hide their new found relationship from the rest of the friends, Phoebe giving birth early in the season, Ross trying to regain Emily's love, Rachel struggling with her feelings for Ross and trying to climb up the corporate ladder, and Joey being, well, Joey. Monica and Chandler's relationship was risky on the writer's part, but something about it clicked and felt natural. Courteney and Matthew are actually quite funny together, especially in the beginning of their relationship when the characters were oversexed. Monica and Chandler were a very different couple from Ross and Rachel. They aren't dramatic and many of their fights are funny and normally arise from the character's neuroses. Kudrow probably gives on the single best performances on the show when Phoebe gives birth and then has to give the triplets up. Ross settles into the whiny, neurotic character that finishes out the series, but Schwimmer still gives him an earnest, loveable quality and finds a really funny voice for him. Aniston isn't given much to do this season, but she does make what little she has memorable. She is hysterical in "TOW Rachel's Inadvertant Kiss" and "TOW Rachel Smokes," and continues to make Rachel a wounded character whose plans never quite work out the way she intends. LeBlanc continues to be a funny, go-to-the-joke type character. LeBlanc is reliable and he will always produce a laugh. The audience continues to see him really coming into his own as a scene stealer. Season five produced some consistently funny memorable episodes including "TOW Ross Says Rachel," "TOW All the Kissing," "TOW Phoebe Hates PBS," "TOW the Kips," "TOW the Yeti," "TOW All the Thanksgivings," "TOW Ross's Sandwhich," "TOW the Inappropriate Sister," "TOW all the Resolutions," "TOW the Cop," "TO in Vegas," and of course the two classic episodes from this season, "The One Hundredth," and "The One Where Everybody Finds Out" one of the single best episodes in Friends history with some classic performances from the cast.

WE ARE HALFWAY THROUGH THE FRIENDS SERIES...5 DOWN, 5 TO GO!
The 5th Season of Friends is the season where:
*Monica and Chandler start their relationship
*Ross gets married...AGAIN to RACHEL out of being very very drunk!
*They pass the 100th episode
Whenever I watch Season Five all I can really say is that it is easily watchable and is quite good, but it isnt my favourite season. For some reason I notice the episodes are kind of all over the place and its not like it used to be. Dont get me wrong I still love the show and this Season is good, but this one isn't vital. I personally only bought this season for that episode where Monica has a turkey on her head with the big glasses and hat and then dances! I know! Stupid! Lol but its classic!
This season Box set isnt desperately needed in your collection, unless you want to see Monica and Chandler start their relationship and hide it with Joey covering for them constantly (The One With Ross's Sandwich is great when Joey covers for Monica and Chandler!)
The top 5 Episodes are very easy to pick for this particular season.
My Personal Top 5 Episodes Are:
The One With All The Kissing
The One Hundredth (Has to be here! The 100th!)
The One with the Thanksgiving Flashbacks
The One Where Everybody Finds Out (BEST HERE!!!!)
The One Where Rachel Smokes
I didnt care much for the Season Finale, I mean, identical hand twin?? Not very funny. Very time wasting!. The only really good thing in the final is The Very Last Scene!!!
Overall, not a stellar season, Not as good as Season 3 or 4 but definitley up there somewhere. Not desperatley needed in your collection, IF ONLY COLLECTING A FEW. Contains some very good episodes. The One Where Everybody Finds Out is a highlight! Check that out!

I am one of the biggest fan's of Friends in the whole world , i am right now trying to collect them all , i have so far season 3 and 4, they are very very funny, but season 5 i have to say is probably one of the worst. Now for it to make sence you would probably want to collect them in order, well not really, cause i think all get season 5 in last, so all go right over to 8!!!, lol yes 8!!, i herd that its one of the best. If your a big fan wait till the end to get season 5 cause its the crapiest

Season 5 is the last season that I watched the show regularly. While it was definitely great, it wasn't my favorite thus far (that crown belongs to Season 4). I thought the beginning of the season was hilarious, but toward the end it fizzled a little bit.
This season introduced the Monica/Chandler romance. I'll be honest with you, I wasn't really rooting for them at first. Their chemistry wasn't as good as Ross and Rachel's, and I just wasn't feeling it. However, as the season went on, I thought they were great together.
While everyone in the cast gave stellar performances, this season definitely belonged to Lisa Kudrow. The One Hundredth showcased her ability to both make you laugh and sad when she had to give up the triplets. She also gave one of her best performances in, one of the best shows of the series, The One Where Everybody Finds Out. I laughed so hard when she tried to "seduce" Chandler. This was Lisa Kudrow's year to shine.
Here are my favorite episodes of the season:
The One With All the Kissing
The One Hundredth
The One With The Yeti
The One Where Ross Moves In
The One With Ross's Sandwich
The One With All The Resolutions
The One Where Everybody Finds Out
The One With The Girl Who Hits Joey
The One Where Ross Can't Flirt
The One in Vegas
Now starts the seasons that I missed, so this should be interesting!
Friends Season 5: The Ballad of Chanlder and Monica - Review written on May 25, 2005

Even though Season 5 is not my favorite season, Season 5 will always be special because it has my all time favorite episode of the series which is: TOW Everyone Finds Out. This is possibly the best episode of the series ever. Lisa Kudrow was just pure genius, she was perfection from start to finish, this is just the most laugh out loud episode of the series..
Other standouts episode are The One Hundredth (another great Lisa Kudrow episode, hilarious and moving), TOW the Kissing (Perry and Cox were great in here, not to mention that Aniston was moving here), TOW All the Thanskgiving, TOW the Cop (another great episode for Kudrow, but the real standout here is Schwimmer I swear the word PIVOT!!! will never be the same after you see this epsiode), TOW the Resolutions, and TO in Vegas
MVP here is without a doubt Lisa Kudrow. With episodes like The One Hundredth and TOW Everyone Finds Out, she gave 2 of her best performances in the series. This season is also notable for the official start of the Monica and Chandler's romance thus producing classic episodes like Tow Ross' Sandwich and TO in Vegas. This is also the debut of mental Gellar. The return of the Ross that we've come to know in the past season will only return in Season 8.

Consistently one of the best TV shows of the 1990s... - Review written on April 19, 2005

Along with Seinfeld and Frasier, Friends dominated the must-see TV of the 1990's. Winner of innumerable television awards, the show features the lives of six friends in their late-twenties/early-thirties living in New York City - Monica Geller (Courteney Cox), Phoebe Buffay (Lisa Kudrow), Rachel Green (Jennifer Aniston), Ross Geller (David Schwimmer), Joey Tribbiani (Matt LeBlanc), and Chandler Bing (Matthew Perry). The six friends spend the majority of their time in a coffee house named "Central Perk" or in either Monica's apartment or Joey and Chandler's apartment.
The Friends (Season 5) DVD offers a number of hilarious episodes including the season premiere in which we learn that Ross and Emily's wedding continued despite Ross's accidentally saying Rachel's name instead of Emily's. However, Emily is not happy, and Ross cannot seem to make it up to her. Meanwhile, Monica and Chandler go to great lengths to conceal their newly blossoming romance from the rest of the friends. As the season progresses, the various friends learn one-by-one that Monica and Chandler are an item. The season finale follows the entire cast through Las Vegas (where they followed Joey who went there to shoot a movie). While in Vegas, Chandler and Monica agree to get married, but when they get to the chapel, they find that Ross and Rachel have beat them there...

Friends: The Complete Fifth Season (1998-1999) - Review written on March 18, 2005

When we watched Ross and Emily tie the knot in the final two-part episode of the fourth season, we did not expect Ross to do what he did. It looks like Ross might be seeing Divorce #2. But there's more laughs for you as the actors head into their fifth season.
Picking up precisely where the fourth season left off, Emily and Ross tie the knot anyway, in spite of Ross saying the wrong name. At the reception, Emily hides in the bathroom and refuses to come out. Ross tries desperately to get Emily out, but she continues to tell him that she refuses to even look at him, where she then leaves the reception. Monica and Chandler try to hook up again, but they can't find a place to be alone.
Phoebe is still at Monica's waiting for Monica, Chandler, and Joey to return. They come in and greet Phoebe. Joey goes across the hall to unpack as Phoebe goes home. Chandler and Monica then decide that they should become a couple, but vow to keep it as a secret from the others. Ross sits in the airport, hoping for Emily's arrival. He sees Rachel as she tries to get a ticket back home. But Ross is convinced that Emily won't show, so he invites Rachel to go with him to Athens. As Rachel boards the plane to Athens, Ross goes to get his jacket, but winds up chasing Emily, who bailed after seeing him with Rachel.
Phoebe then goes into labor and gives birth to the triplets. When Phoebe was pregnant, she was told that the triplets were two boys and a girl. Frank had named one of the boys, Frank Jr. Jr., in other words, Frank III. Alice had named the girl baby, Leslie. Being that Phoebe was doing them the favor of carrying the babies, they allowed Phoebe to name the second boy baby. She named the second boy after Chandler. Frank Jr. Jr. was born first, followed by Leslie. Chandler was born third, but Frank and Phoebe were shocked to find that little Chandler was a girl. Frank and Alice decided to let the name stand, despite the fact that the third baby is a girl.
Monica and Chandler continue their relationship. They plan to go away to Atlantic City for a weekend together. Being that it'll sound suspicious to the others, Chandler tells them that he's got a business meeting there, while Monica tells them that she has a cooking convention there. They go out to AC, but they come back early after a little argument. The next day, Joey gives Chandler a message from the hotel in AC, saying that there was an eyelash curler in his hotel room. Chandler lies and says he knows nothing about it and says that he saw Donald Trump getting on the elevator. Everyone then gathers at Monica's apartment. Monica reveals that she too saw Donald Trump. Joey begins looking suspicious. Monica then asks Rachel if she could borrow her eyelash curler, since Monica lost hers. After hearing that, Joey finally realizes that Chandler and Monica had lied about their business stories and went to AC together and realizes that they are dating. Chandler and Monica swear Joey to secrecy. Joey agrees.
Ross continues to call Emily, but cannot find her anywhere. Emily finally calls him. She promises to move to the states with Ross as long as he promises to never see Rachel again. Hurt by the decision he has to make, Ross is desperate to make this marriage work. He agrees to do what Emily wants, as well as moving out of his apartment and getting rid of all his furniture and buying new furniture and a new place with Emily. While having dinner with Monica and the gang, Emily calls. Everyone covers for Ross by saying that Rachel is not there, even though she is, but Ross knows better and says that Rachel is there, which leads into his second divorce.
Rachel, later on, finds out about Monica and Chandler, but they have no idea that Rachel knows, but she agrees to help Joey keep it a secret from the others, but she cannot tell Monica and Chandler that she knows. But soon, everyone finds out, except for Ross, who is busy trying to get Ugly Naked Guys apartment. Ross finds out, but winds up being happy, for Monica and Chandler feel love for each other.
The season ends with the gang going to Vegas for the weekend. Monica and Chandler are so in love that they decide to elope. But they are in utter shock when they find Ross and Rachel, who are more drunk than they could imagine, come out of the chapel a married couple.
Shocking, isn't it? But you'll laugh and laugh and laugh until your heart stops as this season unfolds. All the laughs are worth the money when you buy the complete fifth season. Guest stars include: Helen Baxendale, Jennifer Saunders, Michael Rapaport, Christina Pickles, Elliott Gould, & Morgan Fairchild.

Since my TV's been out (well, not the TV, but the cable), I've been watching all the Friends DVD sets to keep myself entertained. THE COMPLETE FIFTH SEASON OF FRIENDS is great - the fifth season was one of the best seasons of the series, what with Chandler and Monica finally getting together, Phoebe meeting her dad, and Joey finally gets his "big break!"
Highlights of the set are:
*The One With All the Thanksgivings - This is my absolute favorite episode of Friends. Each "Friend" talks about their worst Thanksgiving ever, which provide plenty of laughs now - even though they didn't when they happened.
*The One Where Everyone Finds Out - Everyone finds out about Chandler and Monica's "secret" relationship. This episode definately has some of the best quotes, my favorite one being "But they don't know that we know that they know that we know!"
*The One With Joey's Bag - When he goes on an audition, Joey takes a man's bag with him to help get into character. He becomes attached to the bag and starts taking it everywhere he goes.
*The One Hundredth - Phoebe finally has her brother's triplets!
THE COMPLETE FIFTH SEASON OF FRIENDS is recommended to fans of the show, as are the rest of the DVDs.

I think this is the best season. So much went on... Joey finding out about Chandler and Monica because of the hotel in Atlantic City calling Joey about the eyelash curler left in the hotel room and then Monica asks Rachel for one.
One of the funniest moments was:
'Atleast I got to see Donald Trump waiting by an elevator'
'Oh yeah at the Taj Mehal he has his own private elevator, a glass elevator, made by Otis Elevators, and they usually don't do glass'
'What kinds of things do you KNOW?'
anyway, its great to pull out on a rainy weekend

Probably, the greatest Friends' season. The first episodes, just when they get back from England, are Gloriously Hilarious. Chandler and Monica hiding their relationship from the rest is truly one of the best moments in all the friends series.
Also, there aren't any excerpts from other seasons, which is great too. There is one new "flashback" which is OK too.
I've read that watching "Friends" helps reducing stress. I Agree!! This series and especially this season is amazing.
Get it... with the rest....

This is the first Friends season I've bought, and was very impressed. Some might wonder why I didn't begin with season one, but here's why. For fans of the show who are just beginning their collection, start with the best the show has to offer. And that's season five. On the other hand, for viewers who aren't too fimiliar with the show yet want to get into it, it only makes sense to start with the first season.
Season five contains possibly the best episode throughout the course of the series, "The One With All The Thanksgiving," where everyone relives Thanksgiving day horror stories from their past. Other notable events from this season are the fallout from Ross' and Emily's botched wedding, Phoebe's birth to her brother's triplets, and the evolution of the Chandler-Monica angle.
The four-disc DVD, obviously including all seaosn five shows, is very well-done. The audio/video transfer, which some people have questioned, is fine. I don't see how people could complain about its quality.
The menu's are easy to navigate, and snazzy at that. Next to each episode title, there's a coffee cup. If you click it, you can watch a preview of the episode. It's a great way to decide which shows you want to watch and when.
The extras, while not as good as they should be, are sufficient. There's commentary show higher-ups on three shows, a 45 minute Discovery Channel documentary on what it takes to create a Friends episode, Friends on location in London, an easter egg, and Guther's preview of season six.
Friends has had good seasons before, and after, season five... but none better than season five.

This season is defintely one of, if not the best (there were some great parts in season 4 too). But this season is so funny, especially the first half, M and C hiding there relationship while falling in love, physical comedy done very well, especially by Ross, the will they won't they R and R. Joey's freaking out over things and having to keep secrets, Phoebe's emotional good-bye to the triplets. It sets up things that will play on in later seasons, and shows a different angle, version to love than R and R (which was all ready great).

This is the best of the series I believe. The idea to make Chandler and Monica fall in love was the best decision that the producers and writers have made in awhile. The Rachel and Ross thing was great, but with Chandler and Monica the whole focuses changes. For the first time, the focus goes on another couple, another romance. The emphasis on Chandler's fear of commitment is most men in a nutshell.
The One Where Everybody Finds Out, is one of the top 5 episodes to date by the cast of Friends. "Ah AH Chandler and Monica, Chandler and Monica, My eyes my eyes." The entire charade is hilarious and the ending is great. With the cliff hanger of what ross will think of the whole story. It is a great edition to the Friends collection...
