It was.

This music is a blessing for my heart and my ears. I can't remember enjoying a soundtrack that much since "The Preacher's Wife" was released. Sure, "The Fighting Temptations" is musically much more up-to-date. There is some traditional gospel like Shirley Caesar's and Ann Nesby's songs and great contemporary gospel by Beyonce, Angie Stone and the others. There is also some great so-called secular stuff. In fact, there isn't a song I wouldn't enjoy. The album is really uplifting. I can't get enough of this music ;-)
And the film ... well, it's just a simple story about essential things: what it means to be a Christian, what Christianity is really about and how great it is to give glory to God.
Both the film and the soundtrack are higly recommended, to my mind.

especially if you saw the movie, you can visualize the song performances which were great, with Cuba's hilariously frenetic thrashing about (directing) through every performance. Its got great inspiring Gospel mixed with some good ol fashioned devils music.

I think that this music is outstanding. No it isn't because Beyonce is in it. I happen to like the performances of Cuba Gooding, The Ojays, T-Bone, Montell Jordan, Melba Moore and Angie Stone. The story line of the movie was very believable and very moving. I have seen several situations very much like what happened in the movie to the character Faith Evans played. This story just took it one step further. The song that won the competition for their choir touched my heart and it should have hit home for a lot of people. I stand by my rating.

What a wonderful movie/musical! The actors all did a fine job portraying their parts - each was a perfect match to their character. The music in this movie is awesome! This is an easy to watch and fun movie! What a refreshing change from Hollywood's "same-old-same-old"!

Yeah Beyonce' can blow but this isn't a gospel CD, just a soundtrack to a movie. Nice to uplift you. This was a feel good movie about making it against all odds. I do like the song with the O'Days. It reminds me of something my grandfather would play.

Good gospel tunes with an upbeat kick. Beyounce's rendition of Fever is very good. She puts a nice twist in the song. She's great at all those little runs (ad libs) she puts into her songs. She won't be winning any Oscars but that's okay. For what she has to accomplish in the movie, she was fine. Shirley Ceasar is wonderful as usual. There are a couple of songs that didn't make it onto this disc. I'm not sure why but it's disappointing. Please see the movie to get the total effect. Melba Moore is a nice surprise here. She is still in good voice. There are other surprises but I'll let you discover them on your own. Enjoy.

The soundtrack to THE FIGHTING TEMPTATIONS complements the movie of the same title very well. The production is solid and what else can you say, it is well done. Most of the tracks are good and generally the least favorable ones are those that weren't included in the movie, though I do like Solange on "Don't Fight The Feeling" which I don't believe was included in the movie. 4 stars.

Beyoncé was obviously the star of the movie The Fighting Temptations, and she conveniently appears to be the star of this soundtrack as well. She appears on eight of the fifteen tracks, and the songs she doesn't appear on even seem to be Beyoncé-flavored (see Faith Evans' "Heaven Knows").

But that doesn't mean this album is worth throwing in the trash. There are some good performances turned out by the likes of Ann Nesby ("I'm Getting Ready") and Shirley Caesar ("The Stone"). But the fact that several gospel songs are mixed in on an urban album may make things seem a little disorganized (but Missy Elliott had a hand in producing, so that's not really surprising). However, some people will probably argue that the movie dwelled on singing in a gospel choir, so those tracks fit perfectly well.

Anyway, there ARE a few missteps on this album, like the cheesy title track performed by Beyoncé, Missy, MC Lyte and Free (the VJ from 106 & Park). It's hard to distinguish between MC Lyte and Free anyway because they both rap exactly alike. And "I Know" by Destiny's Child neither helps nor hurts the album. There's another song, "Rain Down", by Angie Stone and Eddie LeVert. Angie sings well, but Eddie LeVert's scratchy (for lack of a better word) vocals don't sound right on an uptempo song. He sounds better when he's at home with the O'Jays later on the album on "Loves Me Like a Rock".

The rest of this soundtrack is okay, but as reviewer Reginald D. Garrard said best, none of the songs really stand out on their own. Basically only buy this album if you're a huge fan of the movie or of Beyoncé.

I still think there is no better Cuba Godding Jr than the one we saw in "Jerry McGuirre", but I was dragged up to see the movie, though. Well, the movie is terrific!, and you know why??? because its music! (OK, it is really inspirational about Gods Love as many others) but its music makes you really sing and shake yourself in your sit! Quite sticky, lifting and rithmical! I'm agree with everybody saying that Beyonce is great and T-Bone with Lil Zane are just wonderful. It is better to listen the CD after seeing the movie because some recalls from the scenes will make you laugh everytime you play this excellent soundtrack...!

Filled with talented individuals, this soundtrack has surpassed them all. Every single track on this album is brilliant. Its filled with quality!! If you're a God fearing person, and are put off by the traditional somewhat glum songs usually sung in church (they usually are in mine) then this one is for you. It has a sort of element of fun to it.
Beyonce Knowles is a great singer, and together with Angie Stone, Faith Evans and Montel Jordan (just to name a few) this soundtrack is well worth listening to, and if you haven't yet watched the film, what are you thinking?
After second thought, the soundtrack's rather routine! - Review written on May 08, 2004

Rating: 3 out of 5

When I reviewed the film from which this soundtrack comes, I called the music "great". After purchasing the soundtrack and listening to it several times, I must amend that particular assessment: the album is "fair" but not as I labeled it before.

The songs need the movies' visuals for them to succeed. Tunes like "To Da River", "I'm Getting Ready" "The Stone", "Swing Low, Sweet Chariot", "Loves Me Like a Rock", and "Time to Come Home", while enjoyable, worked on film because of the combination of music, setting, character reactions, and all the other ingredients necessary for a musical film.

The songs lack their "punch" when standing alone.

This movie was absolutely heavy! I loved everything about it from the humour to the great message of God's love. But the soundtrack? This is what made me fall in love with the film even more! Beyonce does a great job especially on "Fever", Shirley Ceasar RIPS it up as usual and T-Bone and Lil Zane are incredible together. My fave tunes has to be:

"To Da River" with T-Bone, Lil Zane and Montell Jordan

"Rain Down" with Angie Stone and Eddie Levert Sr. (from The O'Jays) this is my 2nd fave

"Swing Low, Sweet Chariot" (great acapella!)

"He Still Loves Me" (lovely song)

"Fever" with Beyonce (3rd fave, incredible vocals!)

"Time To Come Home" with Beyonce, Angie Stone and Melba Moore (1st fave-heavy vocals and rapping)

The thing I love about this album is anyone can listen to it, whether young or old. This has got something for everyone and I recommend this to ANYBODY especially gospel music lovers! Ciao xx

I was severly dissapointed with this album. I loved the movie for it's great blues/gospel music, but this album seems to move away from that style of music as much as possible!

It's 75% pop/rap kinda music (and let me just state I hate that junk...I'm into real singers, not "stars") starting with "Fighting Temptation" by Missy Elliot et al which is just a disco song that really detracts from any mood you're looking to achive by listening to a gospel or blues album. Then you've got "I Know" by Destiny's Child which is just typical of the band.

Things start looking up with track #3 with "Rain Down" which I'm pretty sure was the finale song they played at the competition in the film. The mixing on this track bugs me, but thats a minor thing about a good (not great) song.

Unfortunantly for Track #4 we move to gospel-rap (who'd ever think those two genres could ever come together!) by T-Bone et al and although it was an okay moment in the film, this track is way to dull and long to listen to. Again, it's too fast comapred to Track #3 stuffing up the flow of the listening experience.

Now...Tracks #5 and #6 we're back to gospel with "I'm Getting Ready" and "The Stone". These two are typical gospel tracks which are satisfactory.

Track #7 is terrible as far as I'm concerned! Faith Evens has a gorgeous voice at the beginning of the song, but then next thing you know this ridiculously annoying disco beat comes in and ruins it all. Great voice, bad bad bad producing!

Track #8 is "Fever" and it is the HOTTEST song on the album by far. Classic song, simple execution, and a great voice! I wish Beyonce would do more blues!!!!

Track #9, "Everyting I Do" is a dull duo worth of a Destiny's Child album.

Track #10 is my 2nd favourite song and is The O'Jays (the barber's from the film) singing "Loves me like the rock" in a great blend of blues and barbershop-quartet styles! Simple and pure gold!

Track #11 is "Swing Low Sweet Chariot" which is okay but I dont get much feeling thru this recording. I wonder if it was the playback they had on the film actually since I liked it better in the film.

Track #12 is "He Still Loves Me" and is nice because it brings one of the O'Jays together with Beyonce to make a nice harmony of voices in this beautiful gospel song.

Track #13 is gospel-rap again...*sigh* Dull!

Track #14 over-produced rap (with a dash of indian) junk they play during credits!

Track #15 P.Diddy and Beyonce....by this stage I am so dissapointed I turn it off in 5 seconds.

Now...after all that, I recommend something like the BLIND BOYS OF ALABAMA who sung their great song "Soldier" in the film - or just buy the great film instead.

I love this CD. I usually listen to Gangsta Rap, but this is a favorite for me. The best songs:
The Fighting Temptations: A tight Missy E. Song. Wondering why we don't hear this on the radio.
The Stone: A great Shirley Cesear gospel song. Got me dancin and clappin.
Everything I Do: Beyonce and Bilal are a great collaboration. This is a sweet song, my favorite on the CD.
Swing Low, Sweet Chariot: A cool version of this song.
He still loves Me: My favorite gospel song of all time.
Time to come home: I wish my church would sing this song.
Summertime: This is really a random song on the soundtrack, but I like it anyway.

I just wanted to write a review to share my love of the song "He Still Loves Me" - I rented this movie, and though the movie wasn't great, the soundtrack was, well, great, especially the afformentioned song. I've really never given Gospel music a chance, and this song alone has changed my view of Gospel in one day. The song has an awesome message that is delivered in the best way possible, very touching and strong, as well as chock full of humility and reverence - i think everyone should give it a listen, no matter what religion you are -

The movie may not be worth its salt-its actually downright awful(bad acting, shallow script you name it). The soundtrack thought-now that's something you should not miss! It features some of the greatest current R&B stars (Missy Elliot, Angie Stone etc.) most prominent of course is Beyoncé who sings six songs on this album. The title track that is pretty much a Missy Elliot number is maybe one of the best. It is funky and simply hip. The heart and soul of this album are the gospel songs and they are truly marvelous. It is very enjoyable to hear how Beyoncé goes back to her roots and sings songs like "Swing Low Sweet Chariot" and "He Still Loves Me".

Don't watch the movie-just get the soundtrack. It's worth it.

Beyonce' is singing her tail off and I love the O'jays (they still got it going on!) Even Melba Moore can still belt out a note. But my favorites are Shirley Ceaser, Angie Stone, and Ann Nesby.

I was hoping there was a soundtrack to the film because the movie was only half the fun. I even felt moved on these preformances of:

Rain Down
To Da River
I'm Getting Ready
The Stone
He Still Loves Me
Time To Come Home

One thing we all have to remember is that gospel music has evolved just as any other genre'. God does'nt care how you praise him....just that you do!

This album is a symbol to that testament. So dont just look at the the singers themselves. Look at the quaility of music that is being performed. Expression is an art which is also a gift from God.

Enjoy and God Bless!

Okay...I loved this movie and i don't want to take anything away from Beyonce. She is a excellent performer and I respect everything that she does. BUT i do have to say that this CD isn't as good as I thought it was going to be. There is entirely too many songs with Beyonce on it. She does a great job singing the gospel songs but I didn't think that the CD would revovle around her. The songs that stand out for me are

*Rain Down
*To Da River
*The Stone
*He Still Loves Me
*Time to Come Home

I listen to these songs early in the morning on my way to work and it gets me going for the day. I know that the people in cars next to me think that I'm crazy because of all of the dancing that I do while I'm driving. I recommend this Cd for all Beyonce fans out there, I think that I would have enjoyed the CD more if it didn't have as many songs with her on it. I also recommend this CD for all of the people out there that went and saw this movie in the theaters and loved all of the music and joy that it may have brought them. Go pick this one up even if you aren't that religious.

(...) This is an amazing cd, but where do I begin. This is a Matthew Knowles produced cd and it is absolutely perfect. I must say this is one of my favorite cds of all time. Highlights of the cd are: Destiny's Child song-- I know. Originally, this was supposed to be exclusively for Beyonce, but so unselfish of her to think of her two girls while recording in the studio. This song gives me assurance that the upcoming Destiny's child cd is going to be absolutely worth the wait and money....Another highlight would be my all time favorite song on this cd : "Everything I Do"f/ Bilal. Woooooooo, this song is super sexy and allows you to hear two beautiful voices in union.I love absolutely every song on this cd because every song can remind you of a clip from the movie. All of the songs are dynamite, but it is one that absolutely shows Beyonce's inner (...) and that song is : Fever. I go around the house singing this song about one million and two times a day. In the beginning you would think it is a simple song, but keep listening and your ears will be in tune....I promise. Overall, I give this cd two thumbs up(...).Hope you enjoy. Tchau!

Singers include Beyonce, Angie Stone, Shirley Caesar, Ann Nesby and the O'Jays. When Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis are involved, you're bound to be happy.

I went to the theaters to watch the movie the first week it was out; just because it had my favorite singer of all time in the movie, Shirley Caesar. But as it turns out I really enjoyed the whole movie and I am not to big fan of Beyonce but she is a really good actress. I loved most of the songs in the movie but kept passing the soundtrack up. I finally bought the soundtrack and it is the best soundtrack that I have heard in a long time. My favorite songs on here are:

"I Know," by Destiny's Child (whom I am not a big fan of, but I really love that song).
"To Da River" by T-Bone, Zane, Montell Jordan for all the hip hop fans.
"Rain Down" by Angie Stone and Eddie Levert, Sr
"I'm Getting Ready" by Ann Nesby
"The Stone" by Shirley Caesar and Ann Nesby (takes you to church).
"Swing Low, Sweet Chariot" by Beyonce I feel the Holy Ghost when she is singing that song.
"He Still Loves Me" by Beyonce and Walter Williams, Sr (my favorite song on the whole album).
"Time To Come Home" by Beyonce, Angie Stone and Melba Moore (my second fav).

This whole album is a winner. If you would purchase this CD you will not be disappointed.

I like the variety of artists singing together on each song especially the "Sweet Low, Sweet Chariot" version that they all sung. Beyonce is definitely coming into her own not only as an actress but also as a solo artist. She is the "IT" girl of 2003. ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC!!!!!!!!!

"The Fighting Temptations" has to be one of the best soundtracks I've heard in a long time. The music is beatifully arranged, inspiring and expressive. Every song has this vibe that touches the soul and moves you to shout, cry, dance, or all of the above! Some of the best songs are Ann Nesby's "I'm Getting Ready," a soul-stirring song sure to get some people feeling the Holy Ghost; "Summertime," Beyonce's sweet melody that takes you away to another time and place; and Faith Evans' "Heaven Knows," a disco tune sure to get those hips swingin'. But, every song is a winner. Buy the soundtrack, listen to it wholly, and be prepared to be moved by the good vibes. Just "fight the the temptation" of wearing it out after you play it time and time again!

Loved the movie and ran out to buy the CD. So uplifting to listen to. I especially like the track: He Still Loves Me. What a great song for all of us who just keep screwing up. Nice to be remided that I'm still loved even if I'm not good enough or perfect. Plan to play this cut for workshops I do.

The other songs are great also. Beyonce's "Fever" is very sultry. Great mix of artists on this album. Enjoy!
