I had already tried his yoga for athletes, which is great for beginners. However looking for something more challenging, I bought this and watched only once. Its basically 45 mins of downward dog and then finishes with some more basic moves. Buy this if you want to be bored for 60 mins.
A bit too strenuous for beginners, but a good workout nonetheless - Review written on October 09, 2008

Having watched and worked with a more basic power yoga video in the past, I was already more or less familiar with the postures and exercises in Rodney Yee's Power Yoga - Total Body Workout DVD. I really enjoyed the calming music and the spectacular scenery in which Rodney performs the workouts. It makes me feel just a little more "powerful", despite my presently somewhat flabby midsection! ;-D

I must admit, however, that I have not been able to make it through the entire set of workouts. It's just too strenuous for an office worker like me who leads a mostly sedentary life. Just 30 minutes of this video is more than enough to send sweat trickling down your brow and raise your body temperature and heart rate considerably. In fact, I usually feel exhausted but well-exercised after even 20 minutes of the basic workout - and I'm a 39-year old male who isn't in particularly terrible shape to begin with.

There are a few postures that I thought could use a bit more explanation or practice, but unfortunately, this video doesn't linger on the basics - it rolls right along from one pose to the next. I found that the pacing is easy enough to adjust to overall, once I ran through it a few times. I haven't lost weight with this DVD, but then again I think it's something you need to continue at least a few times a week, and I probably haven't given it enough attention.

Overall, as a general workout guide and a decent physical and mental diversion, I'd highly recommend this DVD, despite the more advanced nature of the postures and the no-nonsense, non-stop pacing.

I just love this video. It is not only well made, but the workout is really complete. It is not for beginners though. I like the way the material is presented, the voice of the narrator is not annoying at all and it is actually fun. I highly recommend it.

I think this video is a great workout for an experienced yogi. It is difficult enough to keep you challenged, but also serene and calming to aid your stressors. Love this video and love the man who made it! Definitely listen to his story, it's fascinating

This DVD provides an excellant workout, vigorous to me and a bit challenging since I am newer to yoga, but definately can do the routines.

I have been working through these and feel myself improving though I am still breaking things into small sections and working on those and feel like I am accomplishing alot.

Highly recommened.

This is a really good workout. I agree with some others that it is a bit repetitive, but it's fast-paced and will get your heart pounding. I just started practicing yoga a few months ago, and I found it challenging but not "too hard" like some people have said. And I'm not an athlete like some of the reviewers. I find that I can really feel my arms and legs afterwards, a definite feeling like I've worked out.

I suppose I might get bored with it after a while, but I've done the practice twice, which means each session cost me about 4 bucks. So I've already gotten my money's worth and I'm sure I'll use it again. Compared to 10 to 15 bucks for a yoga class, it's a great value.

As a yoga enthusiast for years, I am used to yoga for fun, stretching, flexibility, and a peaceful experience. The Power Yoga-Total Body Workout is just that...powerful. Forget peaceful. You will soon be in a full-body sweat. The poses progress from one to the next with little time for catching your breath, and some are great for challenging your balance and coordination. I wanted a more strenuous workout, and I got it with this DVD. Rodney Yee is a good teacher, especially for the intermediate and advanced levels. However, this is not for beginners.
All in all, I love the workout and try to incorporate yoga with my other workouts at least three times a week.

I have used this dvd only 2 times because i did not really like it. There is to much jumping back and forth in this dvd. I am not a fan of that and i do yoga regularly. It is not one of my favorites. I recommend bryan kest power yoga series, they are much smoothly ran.

I have many Yee (and Gaiam) yoga DVD's and this is the one I come back to time and time again- I never get bored with it. It's got a little bit of everything and is presented well. Yee knows his stuff, he's very thorough in helping to make for proper alignment- you can't go wrong with one of his practices (though you may not be up to it yet, just give yourself time and you'll get there!). But given that he is an Iyengar yogi, having the props is really beneficial especially when you're doing certain postures. But even if you don't you will still get a great workout just doing the vinyasas and stretching in this program.

This DVD workout encompasses everything I'm looking for in a yoga workout as both a flexibility and endurance workout. I would recommend this DVD for anyone looking to do Yoga at home and still get a great workout for the price of less than one real class.

I bought this DVD based on the reviews and because I have his other Power Yoga workouts and enjoy them. I was very disappointed in this DVD. Like another reviewer, I was expecting some more challenging poses. All I got were the same few poses over and over again. Yes, it was hard. Very hard. But boring at the same time. If that makes sense?

It was too difficult for me to continue without stopping, and I am somewhere around intermediate in my yoga skill level. But yet I was so bored I just wanted to stop. I would think to myself "this pose AGAIN?"

So here is my list of pros and cons:

Pros:
Very challenging, for intermediate or advanced students
Beautiful setting
Basic yoga poses, nothing too out there

Cons:
Very repetitive
Few of the more challenging, interesting poses
Too hard for most people, I think. He holds the poses quite a long time.
I didn't care for the music

You will like this DVD if you like to do the same poses over and over again. The first 30 minutes basically consisted of Warrior 1, Warrior 2, push up position, upward facing dog, downward facing dog, standing forward bend. Over and over again.

The rest was a little more varied, but still only common poses. You will not like this video if you are looking for different kinds of poses, or if you do not have a whole lot of strength already. This is not for beginners.

I'd recommend instead:

Intermediate video for women - Yoga Conditioning for Women, 60 minutes.
Power yoga - Power Yoga: Stamina (Rodney Yee), 20 minutes.
Beginner yoga - Stress Relief Yoga (Suzanne Deason), 20 minutes.

I've tried a couple yoga DVD's, and out of all of them, this one is definitely my favorite. I like that Rodney Yee has a great, low-key, personae, as opposed to some of the wishy-washy yoga instructors featured in many videos.

I could have gone for some more poses, as he seems to repeat Warrior one, Warrior two, and some of the basic poses just a bit too much for my liking. But, all in all, it's enjoyable and I definitely feel it without overdoing it. I will say, though, that you may feel it in your back. I know I do, but I've had some problems with lower back pain.

All in all, I feel great after completing the video and it's a good 60 minutes long, so I feel like my yoga practice is complete. It's definitely a great choice if you are like me and aren't one of those people obsessed with yoga--but you enjoy it. It's tame, to the point, and effective. It's great on the intermediate yoga level (or for some beginners with more flexibility, etc)-- there aren't any headstands or anything too terribly difficult.

Great CD. Real body workout. Rodney Yee is inspiring. You might have to start off slow and increase the workout a little each day until you learn the pose sequence and to allow your body to get used to holding the poses.

I was dissapointed with this DVD. I bought it based on the reviews thinking that it would be an intermediate practice with some challenging postures.
The postures are basic, I saw nothing new or challenging....
No arm balances, no strong twists, no real backbends.... Just the already known lunges, Vinyasas and forward standing bends + heroes.
Bad...

Poses: This is not for beginners. Assumes you have knowledge on the poses. That being said, it has good flow from one pose to another and it does get more challenging as it progresses. In the video, Rodney Yee advised to just work at our own pace / strength and stop when it gets too difficult. I can only do up till minute 25 before I tire out or the poses get too hard. This just means that I'll keep coming back to this video until I can finish the whole thing.

DVD and camera work: Good quality.

This was my first yoga DVD and I love it. It's not easy, but after the third time through the DVD, you get the hang of it without having to watch what he does step by step. It's a workout with out feeling like a workout. You sweat a little and feel great afterwards. I look foward to doing this Yoga workout and I'm not flexible AT ALL! If you buy the yoga block it makes some of the moves easier to do too.

I really like this workout for the body. It is not the best for the mind/spiritual aspect of yoga, but any video can be easilty supplemented with personal meditation. I like this video because I can choose to do the entire "workout" or I can pace myself. I recommend you watch the workout first, and then you can taper it to work for you.

This dvd gives you a great workout and it's in the form of yoga which is pretty great. If you ever want to be buy a yoga dvd get it from Rodney Yee because he is the master of yoga. One has to be very flexible because Rodney does alot of stretches that requires you to be really really flexible. Sometimes when I thought he was finished he wasn't the dvd is really really long. Other than that it does provide you with a great workout and tones up your body.

I absolutely love this DVD and it made a great addition to my home collection. I have started off slow and add more and more of the DVD as I am able to handle it. It is a good work out and quite challenging, but it definitely produces a difference in your body and your ability to do certain poses. I bought this after buying his beginners dvd and absolutely love both of them!

I'm no yoga novice however some of this routine was pretty difficult for me. I look forward to advancing to be able to do some of these postures, but I think that I'd like it if there were some modifications that I could implement for my present skill level.

I have had some yoga training. I've taken classes here and there, but nothing serious. I was thinking when buying a yoga DVD that I didn't want a beginners one because I hate how they explain every single pose, so I bought this DVD thinking I'd be fine. I had to stop five minutes in because I had no idea what he was doing. I ended up sitting on my couch and watching the rest of it to get some slight clue about what was going on. Some workout! I think that this DVD would make no difference if it was on a CD to listen to, that is if you know all the yoga poses by name. Because you can't look at the tv when you are doing these poses or you aren't going to be having the correct form. Do not get this if you are a beginner or even if you don't have poses memorized. This is for advanced yogini's only.

I was on the fence about getting this video because of all the mixed reviews, but after making the purchase I would recommend the workout. This video is not for beginners and I believe many of the poor reviews are based on misalignment between the level of the video and the level of the individual. If you have been doing Yoga for about 1 year and are now comfortable with most of the poses, this video will work for you. I still can not complete all the poses in the video so it is good in the sense that it provides a good workout and helps me build my flexibility and strength to improve.

After reading other reviews of this DVD on Amazon, I expected this DVD to be quite chellenging but found it not to be so. Rodney is a great teacher, the anatomical directions he gives on the DVD are very good but I found there to be a lack of consistency with his breath counts, which is a crucial part of a yoga practice. The flows were very basic based on Short Form Ashtanga postures - although you would have to have practiced yoga before because he uses the names of the poses often without verbal instruction as to how to move your body into the pose. I've been practicing yoga for 6 years and teaching for 3 years. I am 50 years old and in good shape for yoga but I am NOT and never was athletic. I've had shoulder surgery for a torn rotator cuff so I'm not Cirque de Soleil material but I can still take and give a tough class!! I like to rate a class on how many times I have to wipe my sweaty face with a towel, how many times I have to take a break in child's pose, and how many sips of water I need!! With this DVD I did not do any of those things and I was in a HOT room wearing fleece yoga clothes! So, my advice is if you are an advanced beginner or beginning intermediate yoga student, this would be a nice choice for you but if you are more experienced or stronger looking for a good, challenging home practice and are used to a strong vinyasa flow, this would not be my first recommendation.

Th actual DVD is good and I use it often.
With that being said, sadly, I can't support the sales of Rodney Yee. He was kicked out of the Yoga Alliance for dating his students. He left his wife and 3 children to marry a model / fellow guru. I don't trust his motives. Google search him. There are a lot of articles about his unscrupulous transactions. You decide.

This is an awesome work out. It is for pretty much anyone who has done yoga for a while. It really helps people who are trying to move from beginner to intermediate and then help you get a good foundation to move further. It is probably the best work out I have ever had, and I have been working out for long time. I feel as though I lose five pounds every time I do this dvd. Rodney Lee is excellent in explaining every position and transitioning from one to the next. The setting is also beautiful and creates a great atmosphere. He warms you up nicely and moves into warrior and the other positions like triangle and side stretch, then to warrior one and harder ones like half moon and warrior three. Then he moves you to the floor with arrow and then into back bends. He then transitions to a nice cool down and relaxation. Its a great work out. For sure one of my favorites that I will have and use for a long time.

This yoga tape was introduced to me by our swim coach. I love the fact that it's challenging but not impossible. Even for being an athlete, I still feel like I get a great workout for this video. I also like to run but have shin splints- I really like mixing this video in a few times a week to give me a break from running but keep me in good shape.
The video does a great job on working all areas of the body. I also liked the consistent flow of movement. Great job Rodney Yee!

This is a great yoga video for supplementing classes at a studio or even to get back into yoga shape after taking some time off. It definitely gets you to break a sweat and I like how it's basic but not too easy. I get a little annoyed that the DVD has made up weird non-yoga terms for some positions - this can be confusing for people who are used to hearing the Sanskrit names (i.e. "chaturanga" is called "push-up position"). I also feel that in the seated position section the DVD does not hold stretches long enough to get a true stretch. However overall this is a great work-out and I recommend it!

I had the original AM yoga and it was great but I lost it so I bought this one and it was way more advanced that I expected. I wish it would have individualized the beginning and advanced parts. It flows right into each other which makes it difficult to follow. I will be buying the AM yoga again.
