The WORST toaster I ever purchased - Review written on April 26, 2008
Rating: 1 out of 5
This is the first time that I have felt compelled to leave a product review. If I could have given it zero stars, I would have done so. I purchased this toaster, took it home, plugged it in, and inserted the bread. When I pushed the lever down, it popped right back up. I tried the other side; the same thing happened. Neither of the levers would stay down, and the heating elements, of course, never came on. I returned it for another one. That toaster did appear to work until the toast popped up and only one side of the bread was toasted. Back that one went, and I brought home a third one (No one can say that I didn't give it a fair shot!) Now the THIRD toaster did the same thing. That was it for me. I took it back, and now I'm researching toasters! Sheesh! Who would think that you would actually have to research a toaster! Several years ago, I purchased a 4-slice Phillips toaster from Target on amazon.com for $29.99, and that was the best toaster we ever had. If Phillips still made it, I would buy another one.
Horrible Toaster, Especially for the Money - Review written on November 21, 2007

I am currently perusing Amazon for a toaster. I noticed the reviews for this toaster and had to put in my two cents. I bought this toaster over a year ago at Bed, Bath, and Beyond. It has toasted unevenly (one side of the toast darker, while the other side hardly done) from the beginning. Since I do not use it every day, I have put up with this ever since. However, it has now progressed to not toasting the same on the identical setting. This requires adjusting it each time I toast the same bread type, as well as having to flip the bread around to get an even toast. Although, there were several negative reviews about it when I purchased it, I wrote them off as negligible (big mistake) because they were in the minority. However, it now appears from recent reviews that I should have abided by them. Cuisinart has not corrected the problems with this toaster. Given the price for this baby, it is a bad investment. It looks cool, but functions badly.
Don't believe Consumer Reports... - Review written on August 30, 2006

I picked this toaster because Consumer Reports rated the 2-slice at the top of their ratings. I should have heeded the reviews that I read. One side of each pair of slots is always less done - and no, the bagel setting is not on - and if you turn, switch, or try to compensate, the other one is always burned (or cold). Plus, for oblong bread, such as store-bought rye, the slots are not big enough. You have to fold, spindle, or mutilate to get it right. Also, it is silent when the toast is done - easy to forget when you're busy with other things. For the price, this toaster ought to be doing the work, not me. Very disappointing... I am shopping for a replacement.
Having tried five other toasters first......... - Review written on March 30, 2006

we are firmly convinced that the Chinese place all of the American companies exterior outer casings and logos on the same poorly designed Chinese electronic toasting unit. This brings back the original stigma that was associated with imports stamped MADE IN HONG KONG back in the 1940's. The Chinese consistently do not make good electonic toasting units. This Chinese Cuisinart however, will give you evenly toasted bread, bagels, thick hand cut slices of Italian bread and reheat frozen pancakes well. Plus it toasts the first time, everytime! I feel the 1800 watt unit makes the difference as most others range from 1100 to 1600 watts toasting in any where from four to 6 plus minutes. It toasts evenly and quicker than all of the others we returned. The dial settings are from 1 to 6. We set both at 4 and get toast. I hesitate to use the words "Great toast" as that's what one normally expects to get from a plain ordinary toaster, "TOAST". We have never had such a difficult time in finding a basic toaster that would just toast bread the old fashioned way, on both sides and evenly. One afternoon while at Sam's, very thoroughly frustrated with all of the five toasters we tried and returned, my wife spotted this Cuisinart and said "it's not a bad looking unit, shall we try it?" I flipped it over and saw the 1800 watt heating unit and was somewhat impressed, I said "Sure, why not? Ironically, everytime it pops, we get normal toast and Mom holds it up saying "Look! Toast ! " sorta like a grade school kid with a good report card. Try it, I think you will be be pleased. Now if they just designed it with a nice shiny chrome case (which wipes clean and shiny in a jiffy) it would be perfect! ***At this point we've had it one year. Thin sliced bread, moist bread require higher temperatures. Thicker slices lower settings. Once you get the hang of it it's really not a bad toaster.
Beautiful, but Ineffective - Review written on June 02, 2004

Put in 4 slices of toast and each slice comes up done to a different degree. Worse, for a given piece of bread one side may be done while the other is nowhere close.
When you look down into the 4 slots and see different glow intensities on each of the faces you see why this happens. Another reviewer wrote about getting one bad one, then replacing it with one that worked just fine. I just took back my 3rd one and gave up.
Its looks alone are worth a couple of stars. But I sure wish it worked.
