This is a CHRISTIAN album? - Review written on November 11, 2005

I honestly cannot believe this band calls themselves Christian. A lot of guys said the songs about girls (9 out of 11, I belive, as has been stated) got old really quickly, but as a girl, I got tired of them the first time I heard them. It's obvious that the lyrics are terrible. I only give the CD 3 stars because I like the music itself. If you can overlook lyrics about shady boyfriends, Donna, Tara, and Mary, more power to you, but there are much better ways to spend your money. The lyrics are clean, but not God-centered. The 2 songs that aren't about girls are about a stereo with oddly human qualities ("always accepts me, never rejects me") and searching for religion. That song doesn't even make sense, as they claimed to be Christian already. All in all, I'm glad I borrowed it instead of buying it. If you want a truly Christian CD, look elsewhere, but if you like this style of music, who's stopping you?
Catchy, but gets annoying after a while - Review written on October 17, 2005

FM static was referred to me by a friend (who likes ska and other emo-ish pop punk bands like greenday etc.)and I picked it up at the Creation Music Festival (though I didn't actually get to see them.

I do like the music (I am somewhat ashamed to admit) they are very poppy, and their music is EXTREMELY catchy (I'm serious, you'll have the same song stuck in your head for a week straight).

Does this make this a good CD? Yes and no. Some of the tracks are very well written and I found them to be some of my favorites (2,3,4, and 5) while other songs are at first catchy, and then on subsequent listens are incredibly annoying (the first track comes to mind).

There is only one song that could even be considered to be a "fast pop-punk song" (on the level of some of the harder songs of relient K; not much to go by I know) is "Something to believe in," which is my personal favorite on the CD and moderately well written.
However, my #1 complaint with this album is the songwriting ability. Some of the lines were cleverly put, however in most of the songs, there are lines that will leave you very confused. In some cases these lyrics were so pointless as to ruin a song for me, or at least part of a song for me (I'm somewhat obsessive about lyrics since I usually listen to very poetic bands or at least those with some lyrical talent).
For example, My First Stereo: (he's talking about his first stereo in case you didn't figure it out), "You make every song sound better, taught me how to write a letter...it always accepts me, gave me the courage to say what I wanted to say..."
Fist of all, how could a stereo teach you how to write a letter? Who needs to be accepted by a stereo? I could let it go if this were the only song like this, but this CD is full of them. The first song, 3 days later, is so random (and not a good Five Iron Frenzy random), it keeps jumping around, (gets on my nerves).

Well, all in all, by this CD if you like bands like Hawk Nelson (they didn't have very good lyrics either) ,and maybe Relient K). Don't listen to the cover, they sound nothing like MXPX. If you like pop-punk and don't care about the lyrics, by all means get it. But if you don't don't say I didn't warn you.

Did they really think TFK's singer would take all the time and effort to make a new band if it was going to sound like Phenomenon? No way. This is most definately a roll down your windows and blast it music. It's fun, light, and extremely catchy. You'll find yourself singing these songs DAYS after you've listened to them. Great cd, from some amazing guys!

Honestly, I loved these guys when I first bought the CD, but i gradually liked it less and less. Don't get me wrong, the band is very excellent, very tallented and i very much enjoy the beats and rythms of their songs, but 9 out of the 11 (that includes the hidden track) songs are about girls or some other girl. And that gets old rather quickly. So I would say 'Don't save up your hard earned cash for this album, but if you have money to burn, give it a shot'. I hope they'll give more variety in their songs later on.

This is what amazes me: the side project managed to surpass it's master. Friends, I'm bigger on this than anything Thousand Foot Crutch. There isn't a single song on the album you won't like, and don't sweat it if you're not into the whole Christian thing. This is straight up good music. In fact, it tops my charts. And my game is bluegrass. Listen to this album through once, and you'll be hooked. Just consider yourself warned.

this cd is pretty good.... and for all u christians out there who freak out because they mention harry potter in the one song, u need to get over urselves. i mean come on, im christian and i think that harry potter is the most amazing books ever written in the whole entire world. ummmm, maybe if u would stop being so judgemental and just read the books u would realize how amazing they r. u cant tell me that the whole idea of the books r just completely wonderful.

I purchased this cd because I saw the "Definitely Maybe" video and it ... simply rocked. Especially because Christian bands ((at least the ones I here of)) mostly don't talk about girls.

FM Static is not one of those bands.

Eight of their eleven songs ((there's a hidden track)) are about girls. And to put it bluntly, the subject got tired. Very, very tired.

I still respect the band because FM Static is only a side project of Thousand Foot Crutch, and it is very possible that they put all the `girl' songs in this cd because they didn't want to put them with the `God' songs. But...I don't know...it doesn't seem...filling.

But it is better than some of the mainstream alternates and lots of the songs are quite catchy. And I really don't know what else to say.

I listen to music quite often and appreciate it. Right now I probably own slightly over a hundred cds, over 30 of which are christian. I listen to the broad genre of rock (including Screamo and some slightly harder stuff). A few christian band that I listen to are Pillar, Relient K, MXPX, Underoath, Dead Poetic, TFK, etc. I also enjoy the likes of Jack Johnson, DMB, FOB, etc.

Now, I am not a major fan of pop-punk culture, but I feel this cd was decent at what it is going for; I respect other people's tastes. Their style I really wouldn't even totally categorize as punk, but the music seems to just be pop with some rock influence mixed in. If you are into that kind of music, and want a clean cd that referances God a few times, then this would be an excellent pick for you. If you want something a little heavier, look into the bands I have mentioned.

Now, as for "Any true christian knows that harry potter is evil" that cpmment is ludicrous. Honestly, who are you to determine wether or not others are true christians? That responsibility is left to the Lord on Judgement Day, not to you. In the past Popes have sold indulgences and have committed many non christian-like acts. That adds to my decision to lean towards places without a strict division, and especially not the Catholic Faith (if I offended you, I apologize, but my words are based on previous acts of the Pope; acts that I do not believe one with a direct connection to our Lord would commit). Should Christians not listen to music that has a referance to the pop in it as well? A sins a sin, whether it is witchcraft or acts of previous Popes. Loosen up and live a little bit.

I love this CD! I don't actually own it, but I have friends that do and I've heard it on their website. Trevor McNevan has an amazing voice, but the songwriting could use a little work. If you like Hawk Nelson, I definitely recommend this CD. My personal favorite songs on this CD were "My First Stereo", "Crazy Mary", "Definitely Maybe", & "Something to Believe In". Some of the songs like "Donna" and "Notion" were a little boring to me, but it could just be that I'm not the world's biggest punk-pop fan.

It's true they had little references to God, but they didn't have anything Christians shouldn't be listening to either. I have no problem with them talking about Harry Potter. However, if it's any comfort to any of you, it wasn't the singer that was going to see Harry Potter in "Definitely Maybe", it was the girl he had a crush on and her shady boyfriend. So maybe her boyfriend forced her to go to it since he's evil and stuff lol.

first off, the person below me needs to understand that they are in NO position to judge who is or isnt a Christian. second, if you subscribe to the "harry potter is evil" mag, you could probably overlook this lyric. it just forms a better rhyme than anything else would..

ANYWAY!

there really isnt a bad song on this CD. the sound is like a blend of blink182 and TFK. many of the songs are geared toward the high-school/college crowd. good, meaningful lyrics in all songs. this is an all-around good album and is worth listening to.

The guys of Fm static may call themselves christian, but they are so not. Just listen to definatly maybe where the band states that they were at the movie theater watching "harry potter". Any true christian knows that harry potter is evil and contains stories about witch craft and spells, stuff the lord and savior Jesus christ would not approve of. Please do not support this band if you are consider yourself a christian. Pick up something from third day or pillar instead.

For the longest time, I've stayed away from "christian" punk for fear that the lyrics would be, well, too preachy. It was only when I heard Relient K's "two lefts don't make a right...but three do" that I learned what I'd been missing out on. Bands like Relient K, Ace Troubleshooter, Hawk Nelson and MxPx make good, clean music, and although the members are christian, the lyircs are basically cleaned up versions of songs by blink, sum 41 ect. Well, after being into the above mentioned christian bands for a little while, I decided to try FM static. Follwing in the footsteps of it's peers, "what are you waiting for" makes little to no reference to God, instead singing about highschool years, girlfriends and making and breaking up. Its clean cut, but at the same time, not overly preachy or self-rightous. My only complaint is that it's not as good as say, "The madness of the crowds" by ace troubleshooter or "mmhmm" by relient k. In other words, Its pretty average. Also, its a little on the short side, with only 10 tracks running at about 2 1/2 minutes each. If you're a fan of pop-punk (secular or christian), download a few tracks, and if you like what you hear, pick up "what are you waiting for", a solid 4 star album

Great sound and vocals. I like Relient K, and FM static has a similar sound, except they have a more punk rock feel and not so many of the harmonizing falcetto notes that made RK great. Would like to see a little more focus on God and less on girls, but still great cd. Highly reccommended.

The best!, one arguement I have read was that The was not enough songs about god. Which is silly. Each song Evanescence CD is about god but it is not in the Christian catagory. I applaud FM Static for each song. It bridges the gap between the same way. ANY Teenager would like FM static if he like this type of music. A kid I know loaned me a copy and I am now buying my own. Way to go Dudes your CD rocks. If you like FM Static you should also give Relient K, a try.

I love FM Static's still, but you really have to like the type of music and lyrics. They have a punk flare to them with a country, tell-a-story type lyrics. I throughly enjoy both the music and the lyrics. The music is upbeat, even in a slow or somewhat sad song. The lyrics are simple and true-to-life.

let's not bs. Thousand Foot Krutch is 1 of the greatest bands of all time. They can sing anything, rap, punk, rock, pop. I just bought this cd cuz i heard that and I ended up loving it, tho it is not as good as TFK.

Three Days Later 8/10- Strong beat, very goo opener. It has sum fast paced lyrics (trevors voice is so kik ass)
Crazy Mary 9/10- This song givs off a good message that will make you think, it also has sum great vocals
Soemthing To Believe In 10/10- The very first song I heard from them, probably my 3rrd fav.
Definately Maybe-100/10- My favorite on the cd, funny lyrics and a great chorus. Pylon
Donna 7/10- This song is alright. Not my favorite but it has a good bridge
All the Days 8/10- This song is a teen anthem about school.
Hold me 2 9/10- This is a really good song. Nice lyrics and some good instrumental work.
The Notion 8/10- This song is really hard and fast paced
October 10/10- Probably my 2 fav on the cd. Really heay guitar work, Trevor out does himself in this song.
My First Stereo 10/10- This iis another great song, I really liked it but I can see how other people might not.
Hidden song- 9/10- This is a slower song but it givs off the biggest TFK feel I think (even tho its slow/ which doesnt make much sense) it just reminds you of TFK for some reason

All over its a great cd, but if you don't like it go out there and buy SET IT OFF, or PHENOMENON (TFK's cds). I don't see how you can;t luv them. Peace out

This CD is awesome! i love it. I originaly found out about the band becuas i loved the band Thousand Foot Krutch, the lead singer and lead guitarist us the same in both bands. The bands are 2 of my faves but i'd have to say i like FM Statics just a little better than TFK. My favorite tracks are... all of them, hehe, but i really love Something To Believe in, the lyrics are so true, and Definitely Maybe, because its a funny song with a good beat.
I love christian music like this thats something i can listen to with my friends and turn them on to, its also something i feel completly comfortable listening to around my parents because theres nothing bad or obsene in the lyrics.
This CD is a worthwhile purchace, and keep an eye out for the hidden track... its another one of my favorite songs on the CD

i'm a huge thousand foot krutch fan, so when i found out they had a side band in a different genre i was excited. but kind of dissappointed when i got the album. nearly every song is about high school dating and partying, which is great if your in high school or middle school. however, the song "Crazy Mary" makes up for it all and is just an awesome song on an otherwise boring album.

Do not buy this cd.The only song that might even qualify as decent is the first track (three day's later[i kinda like this song]) and that isn't even very good considering that it features members from the always original band TFK (I'm thier biggest fan) I'm disgusted that they would actually put thier names on this.I went to see them on the Kutless tour and they were even worse there than on the cd like I said (especially TFK fans) DO NOT BUY THIS CD[!]

If this cd had better lyrics, i would no doubtedly give it five stars. Most of the time, they just sing about girls and relationships. I mostly like bands that not only have good sound, but good lyrics too. Truly, you wouldn't know this band were Christian unless you read SOME of the lyrics or label. None of the songs are bad at all. Trevor has a mind-blowing vocal ability. And when he wants to, he can write awesome songs. CRAZY MARY is pretty much the only song that sends a good message: don't judge a book by its cover. Also, the other disappointment the songs are too short (each is less than three minutes long). Well, overall, this is a good cd. Buy it.

"Three Days Later" (3/5): A decent opener.
"Crazy Mary" (3/5): A classic punk pop song in the tradition of Good Charlotte and Simple Plan.
"Something To Believe In" (4/5): This is a fun sing along song.
"Definitely Maybe" (5/5): The first real good song on the album.
"Donna" (3/5): A real catchy tune.
"All The Days" (3/5): Not a bad track, just not that great.
"How Me Twice" (2/5): This song is just way too poppy for me.
"The Notion" (3/5): A tune with a really catchy chorus.
"October" (3/5): The first song with some decent guitar parts.
"My First Stereo" (3/5): A good closing track to a decent album.

FM Stereo's debut, "What Are You Waiting For?," is textbook pop punk. If this is your style of music, it's not a horrible album. Some of the songs are a bit too poppy for my taste, but it is definately a fun cd to listen to. Not amazing, but definitely fun to check out.

The music and rhythms are so catchy and have such a high replay value that it completely blankets the fact that the lyrics are retarded. And I guess (according to a previous review) that it is an accurate reflection of a Christian teen. Well, in that case Christian teens go around calling cheating jerks pylons and hang out with alcoholic slow girls. Music is good, lyrics are stupid; it's pop so it doesn't matter anyway. Buy it.

For a versatile band like Thousand Foot Krutch to temporarly shake off the old 'rock and roll' spirit exsistent on the Phenomenon release and then throw up this Punk/Pop Cd is in itself a phenomenon. The sound is totally different and it makes the one band become two with FM Static. I found this Cd very enjoyable despite Punk not being a particular cup of tea. This CD is great. Trevor from Thousand Foot Krutch does great singing lead. It's not the same band as TFK just a side project a couple of the guys did. I don't really agree that it's the same kind of music as Relient K or MXPX, the closest it comes to that is it pretty much sings about girls like MXPX does.
