This is a CHRISTIAN album? - Review written on November 11, 2005

I honestly cannot believe this band calls themselves Christian. A lot of guys said the songs about girls (9 out of 11, I belive, as has been stated) got old really quickly, but as a girl, I got tired of them the first time I heard them. It's obvious that the lyrics are terrible. I only give the CD 3 stars because I like the music itself. If you can overlook lyrics about shady boyfriends, Donna, Tara, and Mary, more power to you, but there are much better ways to spend your money. The lyrics are clean, but not God-centered. The 2 songs that aren't about girls are about a stereo with oddly human qualities ("always accepts me, never rejects me") and searching for religion. That song doesn't even make sense, as they claimed to be Christian already. All in all, I'm glad I borrowed it instead of buying it. If you want a truly Christian CD, look elsewhere, but if you like this style of music, who's stopping you?
Catchy, but gets annoying after a while - Review written on October 17, 2005

FM static was referred to me by a friend (who likes ska and other emo-ish pop punk bands like greenday etc.)and I picked it up at the Creation Music Festival (though I didn't actually get to see them.
I do like the music (I am somewhat ashamed to admit) they are very poppy, and their music is EXTREMELY catchy (I'm serious, you'll have the same song stuck in your head for a week straight).
Does this make this a good CD? Yes and no. Some of the tracks are very well written and I found them to be some of my favorites (2,3,4, and 5) while other songs are at first catchy, and then on subsequent listens are incredibly annoying (the first track comes to mind).
There is only one song that could even be considered to be a "fast pop-punk song" (on the level of some of the harder songs of relient K; not much to go by I know) is "Something to believe in," which is my personal favorite on the CD and moderately well written.
However, my #1 complaint with this album is the songwriting ability. Some of the lines were cleverly put, however in most of the songs, there are lines that will leave you very confused. In some cases these lyrics were so pointless as to ruin a song for me, or at least part of a song for me (I'm somewhat obsessive about lyrics since I usually listen to very poetic bands or at least those with some lyrical talent).
For example, My First Stereo: (he's talking about his first stereo in case you didn't figure it out), "You make every song sound better, taught me how to write a letter...it always accepts me, gave me the courage to say what I wanted to say..."
Fist of all, how could a stereo teach you how to write a letter? Who needs to be accepted by a stereo? I could let it go if this were the only song like this, but this CD is full of them. The first song, 3 days later, is so random (and not a good Five Iron Frenzy random), it keeps jumping around, (gets on my nerves).
Well, all in all, by this CD if you like bands like Hawk Nelson (they didn't have very good lyrics either) ,and maybe Relient K). Don't listen to the cover, they sound nothing like MXPX. If you like pop-punk and don't care about the lyrics, by all means get it. But if you don't don't say I didn't warn you.
Plenty of talent, great music, but lyrics get old - Review written on August 23, 2005

Honestly, I loved these guys when I first bought the CD, but i gradually liked it less and less. Don't get me wrong, the band is very excellent, very tallented and i very much enjoy the beats and rythms of their songs, but 9 out of the 11 (that includes the hidden track) songs are about girls or some other girl. And that gets old rather quickly. So I would say 'Don't save up your hard earned cash for this album, but if you have money to burn, give it a shot'. I hope they'll give more variety in their songs later on.
Decent for What they're going for - Review written on June 15, 2005

I listen to music quite often and appreciate it. Right now I probably own slightly over a hundred cds, over 30 of which are christian. I listen to the broad genre of rock (including Screamo and some slightly harder stuff). A few christian band that I listen to are Pillar, Relient K, MXPX, Underoath, Dead Poetic, TFK, etc. I also enjoy the likes of Jack Johnson, DMB, FOB, etc.
Now, I am not a major fan of pop-punk culture, but I feel this cd was decent at what it is going for; I respect other people's tastes. Their style I really wouldn't even totally categorize as punk, but the music seems to just be pop with some rock influence mixed in. If you are into that kind of music, and want a clean cd that referances God a few times, then this would be an excellent pick for you. If you want something a little heavier, look into the bands I have mentioned.
Now, as for "Any true christian knows that harry potter is evil" that cpmment is ludicrous. Honestly, who are you to determine wether or not others are true christians? That responsibility is left to the Lord on Judgement Day, not to you. In the past Popes have sold indulgences and have committed many non christian-like acts. That adds to my decision to lean towards places without a strict division, and especially not the Catholic Faith (if I offended you, I apologize, but my words are based on previous acts of the Pope; acts that I do not believe one with a direct connection to our Lord would commit). Should Christians not listen to music that has a referance to the pop in it as well? A sins a sin, whether it is witchcraft or acts of previous Popes. Loosen up and live a little bit.

I love this CD! I don't actually own it, but I have friends that do and I've heard it on their website. Trevor McNevan has an amazing voice, but the songwriting could use a little work. If you like Hawk Nelson, I definitely recommend this CD. My personal favorite songs on this CD were "My First Stereo", "Crazy Mary", "Definitely Maybe", & "Something to Believe In". Some of the songs like "Donna" and "Notion" were a little boring to me, but it could just be that I'm not the world's biggest punk-pop fan.
It's true they had little references to God, but they didn't have anything Christians shouldn't be listening to either. I have no problem with them talking about Harry Potter. However, if it's any comfort to any of you, it wasn't the singer that was going to see Harry Potter in "Definitely Maybe", it was the girl he had a crush on and her shady boyfriend. So maybe her boyfriend forced her to go to it since he's evil and stuff lol.

hey,im a christian too,and frankly,I enjoy reading and watching the Harry Potter books and movies.that kid who said they're not christian for being at a Harry Potter movie in one of they're songs is stupid."DUDE",my pastor is'nt as anal as you.you need to live a little.Im not a non-christian music listener,I listen to everything from the Used to Thrice(the best band alive)to Killswitch Engage to Seether.LET's face it,I love music.that kid needs to take a chill pill, because no one,not even christian kids like a stuck up,won't do anything kid.If the music is good, lisen to it!My pastors' son listens to Every Time I Die(a sick metalcore band). Here are some good christian bands:blindside, switchfoot,FM static, underoath, demon hunter,Big Dismal, ect.Look outside the christian music category and you'll discover a whole new world of music that you can't find in the christian music category.A few examples would be:Emo,Screamo,Metalcore,Heavy Metal,Hardcore,Pop-Punk,Punk-Metal.All except for a little pop-punk like in this band right here,FM static.

For the longest time, I've stayed away from "christian" punk for fear that the lyrics would be, well, too preachy. It was only when I heard Relient K's "two lefts don't make a right...but three do" that I learned what I'd been missing out on. Bands like Relient K, Ace Troubleshooter, Hawk Nelson and MxPx make good, clean music, and although the members are christian, the lyircs are basically cleaned up versions of songs by blink, sum 41 ect. Well, after being into the above mentioned christian bands for a little while, I decided to try FM static. Follwing in the footsteps of it's peers, "what are you waiting for" makes little to no reference to God, instead singing about highschool years, girlfriends and making and breaking up. Its clean cut, but at the same time, not overly preachy or self-rightous. My only complaint is that it's not as good as say, "The madness of the crowds" by ace troubleshooter or "mmhmm" by relient k. In other words, Its pretty average. Also, its a little on the short side, with only 10 tracks running at about 2 1/2 minutes each. If you're a fan of pop-punk (secular or christian), download a few tracks, and if you like what you hear, pick up "what are you waiting for", a solid 4 star album
Great cd but isn't as good as TFK - Review written on July 10, 2004
Rating: 5 out of 5
let's not bs. Thousand Foot Krutch is 1 of the greatest bands of all time. They can sing anything, rap, punk, rock, pop. I just bought this cd cuz i heard that and I ended up loving it, tho it is not as good as TFK.
Three Days Later 8/10- Strong beat, very goo opener. It has sum fast paced lyrics (trevors voice is so kik ass)
Crazy Mary 9/10- This song givs off a good message that will make you think, it also has sum great vocals
Soemthing To Believe In 10/10- The very first song I heard from them, probably my 3rrd fav.
Definately Maybe-100/10- My favorite on the cd, funny lyrics and a great chorus. Pylon
Donna 7/10- This song is alright. Not my favorite but it has a good bridge
All the Days 8/10- This song is a teen anthem about school.
Hold me 2 9/10- This is a really good song. Nice lyrics and some good instrumental work.
The Notion 8/10- This song is really hard and fast paced
October 10/10- Probably my 2 fav on the cd. Really heay guitar work, Trevor out does himself in this song.
My First Stereo 10/10- This iis another great song, I really liked it but I can see how other people might not.
Hidden song- 9/10- This is a slower song but it givs off the biggest TFK feel I think (even tho its slow/ which doesnt make much sense) it just reminds you of TFK for some reason
All over its a great cd, but if you don't like it go out there and buy SET IT OFF, or PHENOMENON (TFK's cds). I don't see how you can;t luv them. Peace out
fantastic sound...not fantastic lyrics - Review written on April 27, 2004

If this cd had better lyrics, i would no doubtedly give it five stars. Most of the time, they just sing about girls and relationships. I mostly like bands that not only have good sound, but good lyrics too. Truly, you wouldn't know this band were Christian unless you read SOME of the lyrics or label. None of the songs are bad at all. Trevor has a mind-blowing vocal ability. And when he wants to, he can write awesome songs. CRAZY MARY is pretty much the only song that sends a good message: don't judge a book by its cover. Also, the other disappointment the songs are too short (each is less than three minutes long). Well, overall, this is a good cd. Buy it.

"Three Days Later" (3/5): A decent opener.
"Crazy Mary" (3/5): A classic punk pop song in the tradition of Good Charlotte and Simple Plan.
"Something To Believe In" (4/5): This is a fun sing along song.
"Definitely Maybe" (5/5): The first real good song on the album.
"Donna" (3/5): A real catchy tune.
"All The Days" (3/5): Not a bad track, just not that great.
"How Me Twice" (2/5): This song is just way too poppy for me.
"The Notion" (3/5): A tune with a really catchy chorus.
"October" (3/5): The first song with some decent guitar parts.
"My First Stereo" (3/5): A good closing track to a decent album.
FM Stereo's debut, "What Are You Waiting For?," is textbook pop punk. If this is your style of music, it's not a horrible album. Some of the songs are a bit too poppy for my taste, but it is definately a fun cd to listen to. Not amazing, but definitely fun to check out.
Rating: Three stars.
