I've been on a low carb eating plan for 6 1/2 years, and have lost 184 pounds and kept it off. I don't eat cake--period! But birthday cake is fun and special. This year it occurred to me that a wooden birthday cake would be all the celebration but no unwelcome temptation.

I read lots of reviews, and decided on the Melissa and Doug cake. I'm so glad! It was just the right touch for celebrating my birthday without any bad dietary temptations. It made me smile many times.

I put plastic wrap over the top and put it up in the cabinet for future uses. The Happy Birthday can be taken off, so you can use this cake to celebrate other occasions. I also bought a stainless steel cake stand to set it up in style next time!

That stainless steel cake stand is very nice to have on the kitchen counter the rest of the time: sturdy and a good place to set things on top and underneath. I never would have thought of getting it without this neat wooden cake!

This is really a nice item. Just pure fun.

I got this for my 2 and 1/2 year old daughter because she was singing happy birthday to everything, and making pretend cakes. This toy was an instant success. She loves decorating the cake differently, blowing out the candles, serving the cake, and watching everyone 'eat and enjoy' her creations! She had a little trouble cutting the pieces when it was new (the velcro was too sticky), but now that the velcro has been used a little, it is easier to cut, and she still has a ball playing with it. I would highly recommend this toy!

I gave this to my daughter at her 3rd birthday party and all the kids (2-7 years old) were grouped around to play with it. Which is hard to believe when there were so many hot electronic toys there too.

This is great for pretend play for boys and girls. I think it is perfect for rainy date playdates especially!

I bought this toy for my 2 and 1/2 year old; she loves cake so I thought this will be a good toy for her to pretend with. She plays with it everyday and gives everyone a slice of cake. Sings happy birthday, and pretend to blow out the candles.

We bought this for our daughter's 2nd birthday and it has been a big hit. Our children love to play 'birthday party' and taking turns being the birthday girl or host. This set is wooden and has velcro disks that hold the cake slices together and hold on the candles and decorations. Quality is typical for M&D toys - no surprise there! Overall a great toy - my kids even use the candy pieces as play money :)

This is a very sturdy and colorful birthday cake. My 3 and 5 year old love it and play "birthday" with their dolls and each other everyday. My daughter actually asked for a pretend birthday cake and I was happy to find this one. It comes in a wooden box and the pieces velcro on the cake to change out the decorations. Kids love it!

I bought this for my 2 1/2 daughter because she always took her blocks and said she was making cup cakes with them and would sing Happy Birthday to herself. When we recived the cake her eyes got very big and she was so excited. She really has a good time making the cake and then serving it to everyone. This is one of the best Melissa and Doug toys! I have even bought it since for birthday presents. This was also a hit for Birthday present.

My daughter received this toy for her 2nd birthday. Two months later, she still plays with it - she loves it. There are so many pieces to this toy (which can be seen as a good thing or a bad thing..) but my daughter loves the options.. either all candles.. or gumdrops.. jelly beans.. strawberries, the possibilities of decorating the cake are endless!

I do want to note though that when we first opened the kit, the smell of paint was strong. It was gone the next day.. but wow. Wouldnt recommend this toy to any child who still puts things in their mouth..

Overall, very good toy. My daughter loves to cut the cake and serve it.. it is very durable - love the wood toys by Melissa & Doug. Highly recommend this toy to any child!

This was a Christmas gift for my grand daughter. It is a very sturdy toy, and my grand daughter never gets tired of serving up her dolls and me some birthday cake. Every day is a different doll's birthday. Lots of fun for a 2-3 year old! The Velcro is great and really holds well, so a child can change the embellishments for the cake often, and it does not wear out!

I gave this to a 2 year-old although it says 3 and up. But he just loves it and enjoys playing with it. He certainly figured it out and finds it very entertaining. His 6 year-old sister also really likes it.

Where my son goes to therapy at they have this toy and the equalivent the pizza party one by Melissa and Doug. So I decided on this one for home. He loves it and so do my girls. There ages are 6,4,3. The only problem I forsee with this toy is the obvious. It has small parts that are going to get lost. The parts are not choking hazards (in my opinion) my kids know better. But, they are easy to get lost. I make my kids play with it at the kitchen table and I make sure they put everything up with they are done with it. We haven't lost anything yet!

My two year old is obsessed with birthday cakes. She would make birthday cakes out of playdough and sing "happy birthday" When I saw this toy I had to get it for her for Christmas. She loves it, weve had it for 2 months and it is still going strong on almost daily play. Its so cute and durable - the paint doesnt even scratch.

Who knew that a wooden birthday cake could provide so much entertainment? Our 3.5 y.o daughter is obsessed with it. As are her friends when they come over. Of all of our daughter's many play food items (and there are many), this is the clear favorite. We're definitely getting our money's worth out of it.

My daughter just turned two years old and enjoys this toy. She is really interested birthdays so this toy is perfect. It is fun to change the toppings and serve each other cake. I think it is a toy that will be with her for many years of play because it is sturdy and can scale up with her age.

My girls (ages 4 &2yrs) love this and the pizza set. I only have 2 problems with them. No lid on the container box! and a bunch of little round pieces that get scattered. Can you tell I'm tired of picking up toys? LOL.

My girls sing, blow out the pretend candles, serve cake, etc. It is great for Tea Parties! The slices are held together with velcro, it comes with a spatula so your child can cut it. A wide assortment of toppings, many candles.

My two-year-old loves this toy. He decorates and redecorates each slice with "jelly beans" or "strawberries" and serves cake to everyone in the family. He got this for Christmas and hasn't tired of playing with it yet one month later. Definitely one of the top toys in our house right now. Very durable. My only complaint is the the nice wooden box it comes in doesn't have a lid.

Another Meliisa and doug hit.
It is made of wood and has velcro to stick slices and candles etc together.
They have been in and out of my daughter mouth and are still here to tell the tale so it is well made.
Brought for my daughter's 2nd birthday she loves serving slices of cake at her tea parties.
We also use it for counting how many slices and candles will be good when we learn about fractions.
Aswell pretend time which is great.
So if you want is a great learning tool too!

My 3yr, 4yr and 6yr old have been celebrating A LOT since they got this. There have been way too many parties in our house. My husband and I must be as old as the dinasours if you count how many birthday parties they have thrown in our honor! Needless to say, they love it!!! They enjoy placing the candles on the most and they love the fact that they can come into a room holding a lit up cake for someone. Guess what ladies....this cake truly is fat free!!! Does anyone know a different version for singing Happy Birthday?

The candles are very sturdy and so are all of the parts. You will be very satisfied with this toy and your child will love it.

I have a 3 year old boy and a 4 year old girl. They love playing with this. It is fun to decorate a cake, sing the birthday song, make a wish (we become very inventive), blow out the candles and do it all over again. My kids love to make and bake real cakes with me, but we can't do that everyday (eating cake daily is not a healthy way of going), so this is a great alternative!!!

My kids love it. They use it all the time. I eat cake practically all day, if you know I mean. It is a great toy and can be educational to teach fractions and counting. Bad thing is that it is dropped often so the paint chips easily and the wood bends. If you don't mind having less than perfect looking toys I think that this toy is worth it.

I purchased this toy for my four year old after reading the product reviews. My daughter has really enjoyed playing with it and throwing surprise "birthday parties". I've ordered several Melissa and Doug products and have been pleased with them. However, I do wish that the products came with a lid. The pieces have ended up spread all over the house and get stepped on with a couple broken pieces.

My 4 year old loves this toy. She has shown more interest in this toy than in most of her other toys. My only fear is the paint since it was made in China. I suspect it has been painted with leaded paint, but I don't know for sure, so I just make sure she doesn't put any of the pieces in her mouth. Everything about it is cute and pretty. She loves bringing me pieces of cake several times a day. I would give it 100% rating if I felt comfortable about the paint.
