We got this for our son's 6th birthday. It's a little more challenging for him to do it solo but I have no doubt he will be able to within a couple months. He lights up when the music, noise, or lightbulb (or all of them) work. It's a great product. I highly recommend it.

My 6 year old son really has enjoyed this gift. We've had it for 8 months now and he still picks it up and tries out a new combination of connections. When we first got it he was so excited that he tried to work his way through the guidebook. The guide booklet describes w/ words and pictures what to do with the pieces (order to put them on etc...). It has well over 80 combinations to make a siren, flying disc etc... not to mention being creative with the pieces. The box is sturdy and the pieces all fit securely into it - I image you could even bring it in the car. It's has long been one of our favorites.

I am a teacher who needs self-directed hands-on experiences for my science/technology students at the middle/high school level. Beginners with no previous contact with basic electricity and/or electrons are fascinated with these kits. The parts are well built and durable. The kit is easy to organize and store. The plastic storage tray makes it easy to account for all parts. The kit uses rigid circuit components, making circuits easy to understand... as opposed to using flexible wires. Wires would tend to end up being an uncomprehendable pile of spaghetti. Included are many plans for pre-designed projects, yet the kit is safe and flexible enough to allow a student to experiment to his/her heart's content.

I bought the smallest kit available to see if my 10 year old would like it for his birthday. Wow! Both our boys 10 & 5, our daughter, my hubby, his dad and I all found ourselves having a great time with it. Each of us made our own project, some with the book and some without. A good chance for grandpa to show off his very impressive skills! Can't wait to add to the set.
Play and Learn!! - Review written on February 28, 2008

This is such a nice toy to "play" with. The included booklet shows a diagram of each project. They start out simple and basic. The directions are easy to follow. My 8 yr old son is able to easily follow the progression of each project on his own. Some of the projects are building circuits to light up a small light bulb, or sound off a small siren that has various sounds to choose, or spin a fan that will fly in the air. While they play with the pieces that snap on and snap off, they inadvertently learn what is needed to complete the various circuits. They are learning great information while playing. The board and pieces seem durable and well made. We are very pleased with this set and highly recommend it to others.

After reading other reviews on this, I decided to get it for one of my daughter's christmas gifts. My hubby didn't think she would like it at first, but she has and even he has played with it. We had some friends over one day and we were showing them, and they thought it was worth it. I would recommend it. The only thing is make sure you have new batteries in it otherwise the sounds won't be as clear, otherwise a nice product.

I bought this for my son for Christmas. We have done all of the examples in the book and created more through trial and error. It is a fun experimental gaget to make noises, sounds, lights, etc. He enjoyed it more than I thought he would and plays with it about once a week. We keep everything attached to the mapping board to avoid losing pieces and so far we haven't lost any.

My grandson absoultley loves this. This was the first year we purchased from Amazon and our choice was right on the mark. He plays with this for hours and learns as he plays with great eagerness and interest. I would highly reccomend this to any little boy that enjoys working with his hands and mind.

My son LOVES this set! It has kept him busy for hours, and it's really durable for a kid. We first saw these at a Cub Scouts event, and he wanted one ever since. If you have a kid that likes building toys, this is a great one. It really stretches his imagination!

We purchased this for our 7 year old for Christmas and almost a month later this is the toy he is still playing with. He loves making different projects all by himself. Heck, it's almost as entertaining as his Wii! I would highly recommend this for any parent who's son or daughter is interested in science projects.

I bought this for my 9 year old son for Christmas. I was tired of him tearing apart everything he gets his hands on to see how it works! lol. He loves it and so does his 12 year old brother who isn't in to anything else like this. Definitely recommend this, great item. Fun but still very educational.

Our son, who will be 6 in two months, really enjoyed this toy. While it is not as "fun" as some other toys he did commit himself to learning and understanding a circuit. The age recommended on this product was 8 and up but after only a few times helping him with it our almost 6 year old son could do it on his own. This is a great durable, educational toy. It is great for the curious child who likes to build and create.

with so many toys out there to choose from, there are very few educational toys to shoose from. This one is awesome though. It provides a hands-on education on how basic electronics works. It is a toy my son enjoys playing with and he really learns something. That is very rare these days.

Got this for my 7 yr old - and we had a great time with it. I started the first couple of projects with him and then he took over and was able to create all sorts of noisy fun. So far, he has learned about a basic circuit, however the book doesn't really require him to learn about the components and what they do. But that doesn't stop it from being fun.

We got this for our 12 y/o boy (a hard to buy for age). He really likes putting together the different configurations and experiments and will bring them to us, "Hey, look what I made this time!" Great for rainy days, keeps him busy and interested for several hours at a time! I recommend this for that hard to buy for tween age!

My two 6 1/2 year olds are absolutely engrossed in this kit, eagerly working through the projects (on #30 right now, and anxious to get to the ones that will involve water...). The pieces are easy to snap into place, the diagrams are clear, and the instructions are simple--a great toy for kids who love science!

I'll start off by admitting that I am a super nerd! I love all things "tech" and I have an electrical background so I may be a little biassed. My daughter is seven and is also somewhat into gadgets. Don't get me wrong.... She loves her Barbies and Bratz too. She is always asking me to play with her but I is pure torture for me to even think about playing dolls! Here lies the beauty of this toy. As with most kids, they just want their parents to spend time with them. I fully understand this and do enjoy spending time with her. With this toy, we can do something together that is educational. She really likes this toy. The quality is great. The instructions are extremely well laid out. I would say that some six year olds and all seven year olds and older can build the circuits themselves. While this is a good thing, it can also water down the educational value. The toy can become an exercise in simply following directions and creating what is laid out in the book. Adult comments, ideas and suggestions add a lot to the childs understanding of what they just created. The projects are not all that elaborate and will probably not impress most adults. Simple alarms and flashing lights are most of what you get but a child is amazed that they were able to create it. I recommend this toy to any child six and up that is into gadgets. If an adult will join the child in playing with this toy, I HIGHLY recommend it. Both will have a great time!

I bought this for my nephew. He is 7 1/2 but loves electronics and anything to do with energy. He is very advanced in science so I thought that he would be perfect for this. He hasn't stopped playing with this since he got it. Other ciruit things he has gotten were way too advanced and really hard to put together. My sister said that the board that comes with it was really helpful at first, but he can do other things without the board if he wants. The whole family is now shopping for add on and other projects. What a great toy!

Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R23LJQOT2CM4ED This is the ideal kit to get your child on the road to understanding electricity. Everything just snaps together like building blocks, and there's no need for screwdrivers, soldering irons, electrical tape or testers.

The instruction manual is easy to read, and includes diagrams for 101 projects. With a little help for the first few, a child can easily work their way through the book with minimal adult supervision.

The video shows a few of the projects - a switch circuit with light bulb, running a DC motor and fan, a Space War alarm combo, and a flying saucer. There's also a clip of a lamp and fan in series, showing that the fan takes a while to turn at full speed because of inertia.

There are also games, sirens, projects activated by clapping or light, and projects that introduce digital circuits. There are three kits that are more advanced, but you can also get upgrade kits to take each to the next level.

If you're looking for an educational toy that your child will really enjoy, I recommend you put this one on your list.

My 5YO son love science kits and he has done almost every experiment detailed in the guide for this kit. It states 8 and up, but it may be due to the many parts and you have to have some attention span. He takes this out on his own and matches up the diagrams. I highly recommend this product.
Son's FAVORITE X-Mas Present - Review written on December 26, 2007

Rating: 5 out of 5

My 6 year old son was "bored" at the end of Christmas day. He was wanting instant fun. The problem that I have with things that are easy to amuse is that the fun fades quickly. We opened this toy and it's amazing! It's challenging enough yet gives him the ability to learn and work through projects to achieve a reward in the end! For example, the UFO launches into air, or he can get the light to come on. From his own mouth, "This is the best present ever!" I love the fact that he is learning to work through problems, learning about how electricity works, paying attention to details and is gaining confidence each time he gets a project to work. A perfect gift at a perfect price! I want 3 more now for my two girls and my younger son!

I had considered this product for a while for my 8 year old son. After unwrapping all his Christmas gift, this was the first one that he opened to actually play with. It was a huge hit and fascination all day. He kept going back to this toy all day long and was amazed with all the cool projects that he was able to make on his own. It was very easy to make the projects just by following the photos of each project - he didn't need any help doing so. A great confidence booster. I highly recommend this product.

My 5-year-old son's favorite toy! - Review written on December 10, 2007

This is by far my son's favorite toy. He spends hours playing with it and does not need any assistance. Before he got the snap circuits, he was tying my cabinet knobs together with pipe cleaners and rubber bands. I'm so glad he now enjoys focusing on something more educational! The diagrams are very easy for him to follow. He's had it three months now and still has all of the pieces. It comes in a great box with a spot for each piece so if one is missing you'll know which one. He recently broke a little piece off the motor and squished the light bulb (his fault) but he can still make lots of experiments. For Christmas we ordered him the largest set of snap circuits.

This toy provided a lot of fun for my six year old. However, over time, the little fan broke and pieces went missing. Besides the fan though, the pieces are quite durable, and it did last for quite awhile before we started losing stuff. I think he did get through most of the circuits - and I think it really teaches logic to build a circuit. You have to think about how the current is going to pass from one part of the circuit to the next. You have to problem solve when an experiment doesn't work. Good stuff.

Very appropriate for curious kids who like to make things and experiment with all sorts of possibilities. Being an engineer I was a little concerned about the fate of the components when my son started designing 'alternatives' other than the circuits shown in the booklet, but the set held up fine. I consider this a must have for 8-10 year olds.

My daughters, 8 and 9 love building these curcuits. They weren't paying a lot of attention to the electricity concepts until one of the circuits they built didn't light up and they wondered why. When they read the directions for it more carefully they realized that it was not intended to light up, to prove that current flows one way only. Chalk one up for the educational toy!

I'm most impressed with the quality of the materials: with the exception of one chintzy switch the components are very well made--very refreshing in today's market. This product is well worth the money.

I remember when I was a kid, building radio kits and playing with electronic gadgets of all kinds. I definitely learned a lot and had lots of fun (I ended up studying electronic engineering in university). However, while fun, I had lots of frustrating experiences with those kits. Fiddly wires, annoying connections that were hard to make, etc.

I saw this product on Amazon here, read some reviews and decided to try it out. I was a little wary since I recently got some other science toys for my 7.5 yr old son and he wasn't particularly enamored with them. Not that they were bad; just that they were hard to appreciate for him. Directions were hard to follow for his age, etc.

This snap circuits kit is quite the opposite. Simply amazing. I introduced it as "lego electronics". And it really is. It's really simple to build all the circuits. After a few false starts, my son was building the circuits almost completely by himself. The pieces are simple to snap together. So easy compared to what I remembered.

What impressed me the most is the manual. Few toys devote so much effort to the manual. Full color, easy to understand diagrams, and straightforward text.

The only thing they could do more of is explain the electricity principles a bit more. However, for mid-twenty-dollars, I can't really complain. And I believe they do have a teachers-companion guide or something like that which presumably has the extra educational material in it.

I thought some of the experiments could be grouped differently to make a more logical flow. However, I think they put some thought into interleaving the "boring-but-important" projects with more fun noise-making-and-light-flashing ones to keep the kids interested.

Overall, an amazing job. I can't imagine how anyone could better this. Fantastic stuff. The guys who came up with this deserve a medal.
