Not hot enough - Review written on October 19, 2008

This machine doesn't get hot enough to create truly crisp waffles. Using an infrared thermometer, I read the surface temperature to be only about 400 degrees Fahrenheit on the highest setting. My 20 year old Toastmaster reaches almost 600 degrees when I select "dark". These waffles come out much crisper and darker than those from the Cuisinart.

I have only used this waffle maker once. And I have noticed some problems. The Cuisinart round waffle maker seems to be a bit cheap, the hinge connection seems like it will break easily, and it cooks a little fast. The cooking is also un-even, some parts on the waffles are burnt and some parts are not even cooked! I know it is very hard to try to find a classic round waffle maker besides this one. Overall, this seems to suffice enough for my needs.

I am very pleased with it, I knew I would be as I have a Coffee maker of the same brand. I look for the Cuisinart Brand when I go to purchase an item. I will use the waffel maker often and would order it again. Thanks!!

Works GREAT! - Review written on September 13, 2008

We like homemade breakfasts at my house and I wanted a traditional waffle maker, not the Belgian style. In my experience, those waffles lose heat too fast. I saw the Cuisinart and ordered it. Unlike some people who've reviewed this product, I've found the setting scale works very well as long as you pay attention to the signal light. Also, after using no-stick spray on the first few waffles, we haven't needed it since. As long as you let the waffle iron heat until you get a green light, you won't have any problem with sticking. This is a great product for the money.

I ordered this waffle maker as a replacement for a different brand that had not held up very well. We have waffles every Saturday morning--family of 8. The waffles baked quickly and were perfectly browned. After two weeks the slide control broke off. Amazon.com was great to send a replacement, especially since Cuisinart charges almost $11.00 for handling a warranty issue. Again, we really like the waffles. But the baking control is definitely cheaply made and does not look as though it will hold up. We will see. The control issue is the only reason for not giving the product "high 5!"

I am extremely satisfied with my purchase of a Cuisinart Classic Waffle Iron. This little gem is great, compact, and can be stored vertically or horizontally. The price was great also, on sale for $30 but regularly $50. This waffle iron makes regular waffles, not the deeply indented Belgian waffles which I do not care for. Homemade is definitely better than any frozen waffle on the market, and you can adjust the setting to whether you prefer a firmer waffle or one that is just lightly browned.

This seems to be a product people either love or hate. Put me down in the deeply disappointed column. I could live with the very loose and wiggly hinge because even the best appliances can have their quirks. However, the five temperature setting was a joke since the control had enough play in it to swing between two settings without meeting any resistance. There was no way of telling whether it was, for instance, on setting 3 or 4. Also, my definition of non-stick is that the waffle doesn't stick to the appliance once it's done cooking. I had to pry every single waffle out of this iron, no exceptions; the only difference was the number of pieces the waffle would end up being by the end of the process. Only with generous applications of spray oil every two or three uses could I hope to get a whole waffle at once. The final straw was when I was using this waffle maker for the fourth time (Sundays are waffle day around here) -- the knob to the temperature control fell off and the lever it attached to retreated to the inside of the appliance. That resulted in a three point toss across the kitchen with nothing but net into the trash.

It appears from the reviews that the quality of this piece can be wildly divergent. It either works to perfection or it isn't worth a plugged nickle. I gambled my $$ and hoped I would get a good one; I didn't. If you aren't in a position to waste money, save the cash you would have spent on this and wait until you've got enough to get a good quality appliance.

Bought this same unit 15 years ago. When the top part of the unit failed, wanted this same model because it cooked perfectly for a long time. It's not quite as heavy or sturdy as the original but heats quickly, cooks perfectly for all done-ness preferences - soft and chewy or crunchy.
Great waffles but it takes a while - Review written on May 29, 2008

If flavor is important to you (it is to me) this is a wonderful iron. The waffles come out very crispy & perfectly golden. The first waffle is as nicely browned as the last one.

My only complaint is the time it takes to bake a waffle takes a while if you have a large crowd to feed. The bottom line, you will love this waffle iron if you are cooking for two. For much more than two, opt for the larger model.

This is an excellent product for the money. Take their advice and use PAM or another spray cooking oil before each use (spray lightly!). Don't worry if your first batch or two do not come out perfectly, as this takes a bit of practice and the waffle maker has to season itself. You can find fancy pancake and waffle mixes at Amazon and specialty stores, but I have been using ordinary store-bought (Hungry Jack complete) pancake mix, to which I add a little bourbon vanilla, cinnamon and sweetner in addition to the egg and oil specified, with excellent results. Keep this device clean (wipe it down after each use so you don't get buildup of oil or batter) and you will find the results delightful.
Worst I've ever owned!! - Review written on April 27, 2008

This is, without a doubt, the WORST waffle maker I've ever owned! In the past I have owned cheaper models that made decent waffles. When the last one died my husband bought this model based on the name with the hope that it would last longer. It may last forever but I still won't have any waffles!

Problem one is that using the recipe that the manufacturer supplied and pouring in a half cup of batter as recommended we end up with batter all over the counter. Annoying enough, but due to the design of the sloped bottom with the slide to set for how brown you want your waffle you end up with batter caking in the opening and consequently inside. This results in having to disassemble the iron with a screwdriver to clean it.

Problem two is that even if you coat the iron with oil or butter you end up cooking the batter onto the iron and having to scrape off bits of inedible waffle.

We did find a work around to using this iron. If you turn the setting up to five and ignore the oozing batter you can achieve a very brown but edible waffle after you cut off the raw edges.

I highly recommend buying something else!

After five or six attempts, we have yet to harvest a single waffle. The product is too light weight to work as proposed. The timer or sensor signals something, but it is not the completion of the cooking of a waffle.

Terrible Waffle Maker - Review written on April 02, 2008

Rating: 1 out of 5

I'm not sure if I received a defective product, but this Cuisinart waffle maker resulted in two disastrous breakfasts. First, the top of the waffle maker that lifts up is loose, making the entire contraption seem rather cheap. The control setting knob is also made of a cheap plastic, and I was never sure that is was really "locked" into a setting. And there is no sound to indicate when your waffles are done, so you just have to keep an eye on the light, which is a hassle when you're doing other things.

That aside, it was the waffle preparation that was really a mess, literally. The first morning I poured in exactly the recommended amount of batter, closed the lid, and the batter gushed over the sides, spilling all over my counter and down the front of the cabinets. I left the remaining batter cooking, and when the waffle was done, lifted the lid, only to find that the waffle was hopelessy stuck to the waffle maker. No amount of prying would loosen it, so that morning my husband and I skipped the waffles. And the cleanup of the waffle maker took forever.

The next morning I was determined to try again. This time I sprayed the waffle maker first with Pam; then I poured far less batter into the waffle maker. As the lid went down, once again the batter gushed over the sides. At least, though, I was able to remove this one when it was done. I then went to prepare a second waffle, this time pouring in even less batter to avoid spill-over, not even filling up all of the grid holes. The batter still spilled over a little, but not nearly as before. The only problem was that when this waffle emerged, it just looked sad -- uneven and oddly flat, which is not surprising given the small amount of batter I used.

This waffle maker is the worst and will definitely be going back. I just can't deal with this kind of frustration in the morning. I'll be buying a VillaWare waffle maker instead, which will be well worth the extra cost.

We don't "do" Belgian waffles so I just wanted a simple waffle iron to replace my old one that broke. This has been great. It is faster than my old one, stores wonderfully - on end - to take less space and has settings to determine how brown your waffle is. The waffles are a bit smaller than my old iron, so we have to make one extra but it's no big deal. I would recommend this and for the price you can't beat it!
Bad news for waffle lovers - Review written on March 19, 2008

Based on my experiences and the other reviews, it seems one must be lucky to get a waffle maker that works. The Cuisinart WMR-CA Round Classic Waffle Maker I received was a disaster from the very first waffle.

On our first try, the waffle split neatly in half when we tried to open the waffle maker and stuck to the griddles. We carefully peeled it off, cleaned the griddles, seasoned them with cooking oil, and tried again. Waffle #2 was burnt to a crisp and raw inside. Waffle #3 was a return of waffle #1. We used a faithful old Black & Decker for almost 20 years before it wore out with never a failure, so we're hardly waffle novices. I believe that some people may have gotten waffle makers that worked, but ours wasn't among them.

I'd say if you have plenty of time and don't mind packaging up returns and taking them to the post office, go ahead and order one. You might get lucky. Otherwise, keep looking. This waffle maker isn't worth the effort.

I mistakenly ordered this waffle maker, thinking it was a belgian waffle maker, which it isn't. However, I decided to keep it and am very happy with it. In the description it warns that it's normal for it to smoke when first used, but after several uses, it continues to smoke and I wonder if it will always do that. It works great, though. It is very easy to clean, and stores compactly and looks great. I'm bringing it in to work for our "brunch" luncheon tomorrow and everyone's excited! Also in the instructions, they recommend setting it at Level 3 for golden, perfect waffles, but I've found that Level 4 works better and gives them a bit of a crunch and less soggy.

I recently purchase this waffle maker from Amazon,
and am completely satisfied with it. Have had NO
problems with the waffles sticking to the grill even
tho I was a little apprehensive after reading some of the reviews after ordering. I use the highest number 5 setting since I like my waffles brown, and the high heat setting gets the grill really hot which is what you need to help keep the waffles from sticking. Just be sure and always add the recommended oil amount since this is what makes it a waffle instead of a pancake and ensures no sticking. I even use cornmeal mix to make cornbread waffles, and just made some today using just cornmeal mix, hot water, and oil. Perfect!!

Finally, a classic/traditional style waffle maker - when the market seems to be dominated by Belgian waffle makers...

Overall, I am pleased with this product. However, please note the following issues:
1) The instructions say, despite it's teflon coating, you should use non-stick spray. Please, heed this warning and do as they say. I made the mistake of not using any and I had to peel waffle shards from the maker, which leads me to the next issue...
2) While this product is sufficient and I do not, in the least, regret buying it, I reccommend spending a little more money on a waffle maker that has removeable plates for easy washing.
3) The instructions say to use 1/4 cup (I think) of batter. It takes much less. If you use this amount, be aware that it will make a giant mess on your counter when you close the lid by gushing out the sides.

Best part about this maker: The browning dial. It is nice to be able to set the dial for more or less cooked waffles, especially when cooking for many people with different preferences.

If you don't mind a little extra clean-up, definitely buy this product - well worth the low price!

I just made my first batch of waffles today on this maker. Silly me
didnt read instructions carefully bef ore proceeding.. On their
Instructions For Use they tell you when to put waffles in, etc.
THEN at bottom of page under note: they tell you might be good idea
to first spray non stick coating on for first use then go on to tell
you it might be good idea to always do this when making waffles.
Yes, they tell you they put non stick coating on it..but believe me,
you definitely have to spray an oil on it or brush with paper
soaked in oil. There is nothing pertaining to how to take care of it
after waffles done. I guess they think you probably have enough
sense to know to wipe it off with damp paper towel. I think it would
have been more helpful if under instructions for use they had put
first-spray maker with oil. I will say the waffles did taste good, that
is after i used a fork to get them off(due to not spraying first).

Beats all other brands hands down! Now I don't have to go to the Waffle House for a good Waffle!

i reas many reviews on this and other waffle makers. I decided I might beat the odds. this waffle maker did not get the best reviews. It was okay. the first waffle got stuck and I had to peel it off piece by piece (I had not used spray-even though instructions said it was not necessary). the second waffle came out better. there is problems with overflow-but if you use less it does not cover the whole grid. I finally got it right (sort of). browning is great. timing is perfect. The description stated that the top was heavy so there would be no'lifting'. well, the batter did push up on the lid everytime. I chose cuisinart because of the name and the price was good. I should have spent more and purchased a belgium waffle maker instead. I settled and although I am not completely disappointed, I am neither quite thrilled. it is just there. so if you need one, yeah the price is right. but if you're really excited, and have always wanted one-pick another!
Waffle Iron - Review written on February 08, 2008

This is the worst excuse for a waffle iron I have ever seen. I tried three times to make waffles in it and each time the batter stuck so that I had to unplug the iron and let it cool to release the waffle. Needless to say they were unedible, burned to a crisp. I packed it up and am returning it ASAP.

Its not worth rating!!! Too bad you don't have half a star, even that's too much.

Rating: 5 out of 5

I have had this waffle iron for about 5 years, using it weekly. Have never had a problem with it. Please note, this makes traditional waffles. If you want Belgian waffles, find another iron.

I find that you still need to grease Teflon products, just very lightly. I find real butter is best for waffle irons and baking pans.

HOW TO KEEP WAFFLES FROM STICKING:

Have everything ready to go--batter ready, iron hot, and a stick of cold real butter at hand. Open the iron, lightly brush the end of the bar of butter across the BOTTOM of the waffle iron, then do the same for the top. Now quickly pour in your batter. You have to do the bottom first; otherwise the butter will slide off the top while you're doing the bottom. You do not need to cover every crevice, just make sure to hit each quarter lightly. It uses maybe a half TEASPOON of butter to do this. Repeat after every 2 waffles.

I never wash the plates of my waffle iron. If you only ever use real butter as directed above, it doesn't leave any gunk or residue.

My iron is set between 3 and 4 and the waffles are perfect every time. The light changes color accurately to indicate readiness. I use wooden utensils to remove the waffles so as not to scratch the Teflon.

I bought this without any research. It was on special at a box store so I gambled $20 and have been very pleased with my purchase.
