A MOB HITMAN [JOE PESCI] LOSES A DUFFEL BAG THAT CONTAINS THE HEADS OF 8 DEAD PEOPLE AND HE GOES ON A QUEST TO GET IT BACK. GOOD IDEA AND IT WORKS OUT PRETTY WELL. OTHER THAN JOE PESCI, WHO'S FUNNY AS ALWAYS, DAVID SPADE HAD SOME FUNNY MOMENTS AS WELL. IF YOU NEED SOME GOOD LAUGHS, GET THIS MOVIE NOW.

I really didn't like 8 Heads in a Duffel Bag--though the premise is a good one. It's just that Schulman's writing didn't quite work out. The dialogue was stilted and made little sense and there was a little too much ludicrous comedy in the film. Pesci gave a good performance, but far from its best. It was just a poor effort.

Joe Pesci, David Spade, and Todd Louiso are the ones who keep this movie interesting and funny. Oh, and the lady who plays the grandmother. Everyone else seems be going through a "bad acting" virus. Veterans George Hamilton and Dyan Cannon just seem like they'e only doing this movie because work for them is hard to come by these days. And who is that John Cusack wannabe who is the star of the movie? This movie would have better off with the real John Cusack. But joe, David, and Todd provide all the comic relief for this dark comedy.
The movie is about a duffel bag switch at the airport, one of which contains 8 heads being delivered for the mob. That says it all right there.
In some stores, this dvd is available for a very good price. If you find it at one of those stores, I definitely recommend this dvd. Fans of Joe Pesci will also be impressed with this dvd.
Lost Your Head(s)? - Review written on December 10, 2002

Tommy Spinelli (Joe Pesci) is handed a duffel bag with eight heads that once belonged to eight mobsters. He is told to deliver the heads within 24 hours or he will lose his own head. This should be no problem for a veteran mobster like Tommy, but problems appear when he gets on the plane and a stewardess moves his bag into another luggage compartment. When Tommy gets off the plane he realizes that he has someone else's bag. 8 Heads in a Duffel Bag is a tedious film without aim that tries to rely on situational comedy and the occasionally moments when Joe Pesci shines up the screen.

I don't know, maybe I just wasn't in the "right mood" for this movie But the biggest problem with this comedy was actually quite simple: it just wasn't funny. I remember watching the first 30 minutes or so and suddenly realizing that nobody in the theatre was laughing at anything...including me! Sure, a couple of small things were humorous, but for the most part, the jokes just sat there, waiting for a response.
A Zany Underrated Comedy - Review written on February 24, 2002

This movie received a lot of grief for its total uninhibited irreverence. But if its irreverence doesn't offend you, you can find it a quite pleasing little comic gem. It's about all the misadventures of an American student visiting Mexico when his duffel bag accidently gets switched with another that was sent to verify a mob hit. Confusion and intrigue reign supreme as both parties desperately scramble to undo the mix-up. If you like this kind of comedy watch and enjoy. But if you find it cruelly offensive, don't say I didn't warn you!
Great Comedy - Review written on November 11, 2001

8 Heads in A Duffel Bag is definitely not your average comedy, but i think its one of the funniest movies I have ever seen. The plot is a little odd, and at some points slightly weak, but overall it presents a very comical situation. Joe Pesci is fantastic as usual in his role as a retiring mobster. David Spade, although he plays a relatively small role, is also hillarious. I highly recomend this movie, if you haven't seen it yet you're missing out big time.

If you're a fan of movies like Very Bad Things, Clay Pigeons, and Grosse Point Blank or atleast have a decent sense of humor and can handle a bit of bad taste in the name of good humor, then here's one more winner for you. Admittedly, this is not the best work of any of the "known" actors involved, but is a comedy ever where you expect the academy award for best actor to shine. Watch the movie because you're looking to laugh and just let it out as the heads roll. I'm still waiting for a release on DVD....

Like another reviewer said - this should be funny. At times it almost gets to be funny but at no point, i repeat, at no point is it ever actually funny. This is a waste of a good hour and a half of your life. Don't rent it, try something else instead. The story is infantile, the direction pitiful and the acting is piss poor. This is the director's first effort so do both him and yourself a favour and skip this flick. I'm sure this particular director can do better and the less people who see this movie the better for him!
8 Heads, Not 1 Laugh - Review written on February 27, 2001

This should have been very funny. This should have been "Weekend at Bernie's" with a real edge. Instead, this worse than those 1960's live action Disney movies with Dean Jones or Sandy Duncan or better yet- a WB sitcom. The basic story is silly enough, but there is not one laugh in this whole film. The cast tries much too hard to wring a smile out of the material, but the writer resorts to trotting out clicheed old characters like the grandma who smokes and cusses and the two really dumb mob guys. Considering the talent involved, this is one of the worst films of all time. On a side note, if you are from Mexico, do not watch this unless you are looking to be offended.

I saw this movie on tv, then rented it. I love it! It is no masterpiece, but it is a very refreshing change of pace for a movie! David Spade is awesome, and so is the rest of the cast! If you like quirky comedys, give this one a chance, you will not be dissapointed. Off-the-wall and absolutely hailarious! 8.5 out of 10!

I wwonder why some people dislike this film, since it's one of the most enjoyable films I've ever seen. There are a considerable number of good jokes and hilarious situations, my favourites are when Fern Bennett (marvellous) is thrown from the car, and when Dyan Cannon has an overdose due to seeing the heads. Very good and enjoyable film, specially because of the appearance of the wonderful Kristy Swanson.

This light hearted look at the world of a hit man is hilarious. Of course it helps if you have an east coast backround; the language and mannerisms are right on. If you want a smile and like Joe Pessi, you'll love this movie.
8 Heads in a Duffle Bag - Review written on February 10, 2000

If you ever have traveled in an airplane and mixed up your bag with someone else's, this is the movie for you.

In spite of the gruesome name and plot of this movie, in which, Joe Pesci, a gangster tasked with delivering a duffle bag of eight heads removed as evidence of a mob ordered hit, the movie manages to be hilarious.

What happens is that Pesci's bag of severed heads gets mixed up with the bag of a hapless medical student going to meet his fiance's family for a trip to a lovely Mexican resort hotel.

How Pesci tries to retrieve his bag and the student tries to conceal the ghastley luggage he has inadvertently brought with him to the resort and all the mix-ups in between keeps the movie fast paced and rollicking.

Many extraneous characters become involved in the plot, leading to mix-up after mix-up, all drawn into this macabre comedy against their will.

You will love Pesci, Diane Cannon and George Hamilton. However if humor based on such a repugnant premise is not your cup of tea, pass this one by. It is not for the faint of heart.

If you liked either one or both of the "Weekend at Bernies" movies, you will surely enjoy this.

Surprisingly Entertaining - Review written on October 11, 1999

I ran across it on cable and watched it, for lack of anything better to do at the time. Amazingly, I found it absolutely hysterical, laughing so hard, I could hardly breathe! It showcases Pesci's overlooked and under- appreciated comic abilities. If you liked him in My Cousin Vinny, you'll certainly get a kick out of this one. It might be a bit too slap-sticky at times for some people, but it is definitely worth adding to your collection. I will be looking forward to it's eventual release on DVD.

This film is like nails on a blackboard. Not one smart thing about it. It was marketed as a dark comedy along the lines of "Pulp Fiction," but it's more on the level of "Private Resort." Grindingly unfunny.

Good light comedy without excessive silliness - Review written on February 22, 1999

Rating: 3 out of 5

This was a nice light comedy with some really interesting sight gags, but without being overly silly. Joe Pesci was his usual tough-as-nails gangster type and Spade provided his customary sarcasm. The film had some wonderfully funny moments, the best of which was the final airport scene.
