Fantastic! I love it! - Review written on June 11, 2008

This little thing gets the job done! It's easy to use and easily wipes clean. The only difficult part to clean up is if anything drips by it's hinges, but seriously, it's nothing to be scared of. Waffle makers are more messy! I've found that simply one slice of cheese per sandwich is more than enough. I've tried the french toast recipe from the handbook it comes with. It was okay, but it came out a little eggy. Next time I'll go by what I know. The device does get hot! So thinking this is a safe alternative for children isn't a great idea. It's entire surface becomes hot and it also emits steam. I just love using this instead of dirtying my regular pans!

It makes everything taste more delicious!
nothing gets burnt (if used right) and the food comes out perfect.
cons is that it is hard to wash and gets worn out so you have to buy a new one every year.
always use a wooden spoon not metal b/c it tends to scrap the black coating they put on it.

I'm disappointed with this sandwich/omelet maker, which I began having problems with about the third time I used it. The green light comes on; I pour in my egg mixture to make little "omelets"--and the light stays green, meaning that it isn't cooking. In order for the red light to come back on I have to unplug it for several minutes and try again. Usually takes a couple of tries just to get it to work. I would have returned it, but it's just too much hassle at this point.

I received this Cuisinart Sandwich Grill as a Christmas gift. Looks nice and I usually like Cuisinart products. Today we gave it a try with a grilled cheese and added some bacon and tomato. After reading the directions, two sandwiches were assembled and placed in the Sandwich Grill. Very soon we could hear sizzling noises and steam was coming out of the machine. When the indicator went to "ready", I tried to remove the sandwiches and this was accomplished with some difficulty. The toasted bread was dry and filling was much too hot. Cheese was oozing and this made for a messy meal. Cleaning up the Sandwich Grill was a pain.

In summary, I could make the same sandwich on my stove top with a nonstick pan faster and with better results. And, clean up with a nonstick pan is always easy. Perhaps we'll give it another try, but I won't be in a hurry to use it again.

I had a similar sandwich maker to this one for years and years. I liked it and used it so much that it finally "died". I even gave one to my mother. I was so happy to find another one like my old one and have enjoyed using this one. It is easy to clean -- just wait until it has cooled off then wipe it with a wet dishrag or towel. I like having the divisions in the sandwich maker so that you can put two different fillings into one sandwich! I make sandwiches in this to take to work -- it's quick and easy. A great and very useful product.

This is a great product! I am using it at home for the summer and plan to bring it to work when school starts again (I am a teacher). I love how simple it is to use. While it is heating up, I put the sandwiches together. By the time I am done, the grill is ready to go. I have just enough time to clean up and get my place settings ready while it cooks- I love how I can do other things and not have to watch the sandwiches (like on the stove). One thing to keep in mind is how hot the sandwiches get!! Use less cheese than you normally would - it oozes out if you use too much and this makes a mess.

Needs rethinking.
1. No on/off switch; pull and plug cord into outlet each use.
2. Only one arbitrary temperature; overcooks often.
3. Contents of sandwiches often spill over edges.
4. Gives off smoke and odor like back of a turnpike diner.
5. Must be scrubbed by hand almost immediately, else grease is baked permanently into the nonstick (sic) surface and cannot be removed by Lysol, Krud Kutter, kitchen sponge rough side, etc. Perhaps could be cleaned by chipping with a paint scraper--bye cooking surface.
6. New unit could not be given away to Salvation Army, had to be discarded per #5.

I recently ordered this sandwich maker, as I'd been missing the one I had in the UK. I am really pleased with it, it makes excellent toasted sandwiches in a short period of time. They make great snacks and I would highly recommend this product to anyone looking for this type of appliance.

I bought this as a gift for my teenager after she had used someone elses and she absolutely loves it! She is a summer camp counselor and they use them in their cabins for snacks. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is because my son still prefers traditional grilled cheese.

I've had this sandwich maker for a year or so now. It's great for grilled cheese. It cooks them perfectly and it works well if you use big slice brown bread like I do. The slot is made for smaller type bread but I let my bread hang over a bit and it still seals the sandwich up. A few times cheese has leaked out while cooking and I wait until the unit cools down and wipe it with a wet cloth and it's back to clean.

I had high hopes for this little gadget, being a fan of grilled sandwiches. Unfortunately, one experience was all it took to convince me that this grill isn't the way to go.

I tried to make two grilled ham and cheese sandwiches. Within about 30 seconds of the grilling, it was pouring cheese out all sides of the grill (and no, before you wonder I didn't use a lot of cheese). I didn't even let it finish the cooking cycle because the cheese was getting underneath the grill and I didn't want it near the cord.

When I opened the unit I got two sandwiches that needed to be separated from one another (and cut into halves) using a steak knife, and even that was a pain. The sandwiches themselves, which started as standard store-bought bread, were now mashed into what looked more like pita bread (hollow, thin, and a little tough). The edges were burned black; just generally not a good sandwich.

As opposed to cleaning the liquid cheese off, this device just went in the trash. I can't recommend this even over just a standard non-stick griddle.

I bought this kitchen gadget three years ago, and I am very happy with my purchase.

I use it to make warm sandwiches of molten cheese, or cheese mixed with eggs. Very easy to operate and to clean. When the sandwich is ready, the light changes to green. You can also use it to cook eggs, or warm bread. I think it would make a very valuable addition to the kitchens of those who don't cook otherwise.

I dropped it once and some of the plastic cover broke, but I glued it back and it is as good as new.

These are handy little grills for quick homemade sandwiches.
However, when I was shopping locally for them, I found both WalMart and National Grocers (Owen Sound, ON) were selling them for $9.95 Cdn, exact same models, right down to the red and green lights and grill design inside.
The price point here seems a little high.... like, about 200% high. Or are we in a local pricing anomaly?

For the price you'll get a solid sandwich grill that looks good too. Unlike others in the same price range, it doesn't look "plastic-y". Serves my need at a bargain price. Plus I used a coupon from UnderTag.com, so it was almost free for me too.

I looked forwarded to the tasty goodies this new toy and I would cook up. Now it occupies space in the land of disappointing gadgets. No sandwich or omelet I made could really be called edible; that is unless you prefer driving a bus over your meal just before eating. A frying pan is the better alternative.

The design of the hinges (fixed rather than slip-joint} severely limits the thickness of the sandwich you can make. With more than one ingredient in the sandwich, the heating plates are not parallel. The top slice of bread gets toasted unenenly, and the cheese oozes out.

This has been a great time-saving addition to our kitchen. We're all doing the Atkins diet so we're not using bread in ours. I use it to make mini omlettes that the hubby and kids can eat on the way to work or school. It makes great little scrambled egg "pockets" that you can eat with your fingers. We add meats and cheeses and have a fast, easy, good-for-you breakfast on the go. Beats the heck out of Pop Tarts!

I only wish the grills could be removed for washing. I've found that if you use a bit of non-stick spray before cooking and wipe with a damp paper towel right after use, clean up is easy.

I'm sending one of these to the dorm with my son!

I love this little gem! Although the "triangles" are small, they are designed so that pressure from the lid forms a tight seal for the ingredients. I find I use this almost every day, for toast and sandwiches, among other bread concoctions. Easy to clean, easy to store, great gift.

This grill is very, very, very limited it what you can make with it. The grills are so small (4"x5") that no bread of any kind will fit without trimming. I tried to make a grilled cheese sandwich and the bread was hardly browned and the cheese ozzed out. I will put it away in case I ever want to make grilled tea sandwichs!
Too small for regular sandwiches - Review written on June 03, 2003

I bought this sandwich maker so my daughter would be able to make quick sandwiches without my assistance. The Grill works fine but I find that the plates are too small for regular slice bread. My daughter likes to make grilled cheese on this and she usually adds tomatoes and sometimes other ingredients as well. Since the plates are so small the bread hangs on the sides of the grill and if she uses more than one slice of cheese it melts all over the machine. Especially the back where its hard to get it clean. This would have been perfect if it had larger plates.

The product does exactly what it is billed to do: it grills sandwiches quickly. The problem is that the grill is very small, so normal grocery store bread is way too big and it hangs out the side. In addition, if you want to make a bigger sandwich, i.e., stacked with several ingredients, the lid will not close and lock without Herculean strength and the risk of burning yourself. It does OK with two small pieces of bread and a small amount of cheese. But, for that, it's just as easy to heat up a nonstick frying pan. It would be, however, handy for students in dorms or others with no access to a stove.

I'm not big on having all these extra appliances, but I have to tell you, this sandwich maker is great. So great, that I ordered one for my in-laws and I'm ordering 2 more today. At this price, they are truly a bargain. French toast, grilled sandwiches come out great on this and it is far less messy than using pans on the stove. I think this would be a great item for a child away at school to have. They could use it in their dorm room and have a great grilled sandwich in 5 minutes.

Honestly, I don't consider myself a gadget-freak, but when this item popped up in my Gold Box Offers at an even better price than usual, I couldn't resist. I imagined how easy it would be to prepare grilled cheese sandwiches for the kids! And it is! I've made sandwiches with no glitches several times over the past couple of weeks, and I've enjoyed adding pickles, smoked ham and salsa to the basic "slice o' cheese" to please more adult palates. Cheese that escapes the bread during grilling pops right off with a non-stick spatula. Clean up is easy with a wet paper towel. I read the other reviews and realized some people had a problem with reliability. Perhaps I'm lucky, but I'm really delighted with this little machine.

This really is a surprisingly funky little gadget that is getting a lot more use than I thought it would get when I ordered it on an impulse on a Friday sale. I agree with all the five star reviewers, not to repeat anything, but to give it another vote of confidence - if you enjoy grilled cheese sandwiches, you really can't go wrong with this little gadget. (For a fancy treat, try a sandwhich with bakery crafted hard crusted Italian bread and havarti-dill cheese - yumm!)

Put a slice of cheese in between 2 slices of average typical grocery store white bread. Close the lid, heat it up, open the lid...voila, squished grilled cheese sandwich. Had they added a 1/4 inch more clearance, I would've given this 5 stars, as it otherwise works as advertised. But for some reason they didn't leave enough room when you close the lid...

I purchased this recently and was happy to get one. My wife and i used it to make 2 sandwiches which turned out great and we were very pleased. However, a couple of days later we wanted to use this product for a second time and it would not heat up. The green light comes on which indicates it is heated and ready for use but it is not heated. Im very dissapointed in the reliability of this product. When it worked it worked the one time it worked beautifully. All im saying is be aware of the reliability issue when ordering online since you may be packing it back up and sending it back.
