My daughter has had her leap pad since she turned 2, almost a year now, and loves it. She has several titles, but this one is by far her favorite(even over Dora!!!!) She knows her letters by sight, she has for a few months now, and loves the music that goes along with the phonics. It's wonderful for car trips!!!

When our daughter was almost 3 we bought her a leap pad for Christmas and we bought her this book. Out of 3 books she has this one is her favorite! She reads this book over and over!!! She is now a few months over 3 and knows her ABC's. You can point to any letter and she can tell you what it is and can sing the alphabet song. It is fun enough to keep a 3 year olds attention and the songs arent nerve racking. This was definatley a great buy!

My daughter just turned three and loves it, she picks it up herself and sits and does the letters and their sounds and the numbers and colors. The best investment for her. I would continue to buy the leapfrog (leapad) toys for her.

My daughter just received this book and the First Leappad as a Christmas gift. It is one of the best Christmas gifts she ever received. She is learning to read, play music, learn body parts, colors, shapes, numbers, etc. while also having fun. With this educational toy, it allows you to repeat the words on the page and read along with the book. My daughter is only 4 and is learning to read. She is in preschool and is already good at knowing her colors, shapes, numbers and letters, but this toy just reinforces what she already knows. Plus, this toy is at a great affordable price. My next Leappad item to buy is the backpack so she has a place to store the books and cartridges.

I also am a homeschooling parent and think this toy has been great ! I am embarrassed by the "Homeschool Mama" who made a comment regarding the other reviewer. Don't be so quick to judge.

I bought this for Christmas 2002 for my daughter ( she was 2yrs 10months). She plays with it daily!!!! I don't think I have even changed the batteries yet!!! We have about 5 books ..... and she loves them all. The only thing sometimes it is hard to keep track of the books and cartridges ( we also have a 1 year old that is in to EVERYTHING). I have never been more happy with any toy that I have purchased!!!! Even my 1 year old loves pointing the pen on the pictures!!!

I totally disagree with the person who previously reviewed this product and commented about the manufacturers age recommendations. My child is 2 and respects her things - she would never carry her Leap Pad by the pen. This is a wonderful toy with wonderful learning activities. I am a homeschooling Mama who tests many educational items. My 2 year old has the My First Leap Pad and my 4 year old has the regular Leap Pad, and both are wonderful toys! I think the person who made that comment should teach their child to appreciate and respect their things!

I have a 20 month child who is very excited to recognize the alphabet, colors, shapes, and numbers. With adult supervision, she is able to play with this LeapPad appropriately. To the parent complaining that an excited 3-year-old shouldn't be expected to know not to carry the pad by the pen??? I say that when supervised and shown that certain toys warrant proper care, any age child can play with a LeapPad appropriately. We love this toy and are looking forward to puchasing other books as our child grows older!

My 4-year-old is having a terrific time playing with this book. It is small enough for her to use in her booster seat on the way to and from preschool each day. It took her about 10 minutes sitting with me to learn the different uses of the pen, games, and pictures and then she was off and running with it. She enjoys playing with it for 10-15 minutes at a time and then wants a break.

As a daycare provider I feel that this is an excellent toy. A comment to the last review; I believe that the manufacturers use the age levels as a guideline for parents. It is up to the parent to determine what the capability of their child is. Just handing this to your child and thinking that your child is going to enjoy playing with it, is not going to happen. As with any other learning toy it takes a parent to teach the child how to use the toy. Only then will your child get the most out of it, and it won't end up in the closet. All children learn at different paces.

So many toy manufacturers who put age appropriate on their toys do not consider all the different aspects of the toy: is the child old enough to pretend; is hand/eye coordination age appropriate; are questions realistic for the number asked in sequence; does the manufacturer REALLY expect an excited three-year-old not to carry book by pen? They are not perfect. Manufacturers should be more honest and more toys would stay out of the closet.
