Great for USB 1.x versions (skip if you're running USB 2.x) - Review written on June 08, 2008

This has worked well on an older Dell notebook running USB version 1.x. I've plugged in multiple media readers, mice and cameras without a hitch. If you have USB ver. 2x, go with a different hub, since you will really want ver. 20 speed if you can get it.

Stay Away...waste of $$$ - (USB 1.1 only, very slow) - Review written on May 30, 2008

This unit looks new. Looks like a new design. But it's a waste of your money. It's only a USB 1.1 (ie: 12mbs transfer speed) versus the long standard USB 2.0 (ie: 480 mbs).

Worse, it's not even priced at USB 1.x device prices (ie: < $5).

:(
Need additional USB ports - Review written on May 11, 2008

GREAT !!!!! Adds extra ports to your computer, installs easily. Well worth the money. But, my mistake was not buying the 7 port hub just in case I might need it.
Works fine, but needs power cord - Review written on April 19, 2008

This little hub is a serviceable device. I needed it to add usb ports so I could run my laptop cooler while running other attached drives. It works fine for my printer and laptop cooler. However, it will not power an external usb hard drive. The optional DC power adapter is needed (model #USBHUB4PC) - sold separately, of course.

Specially designed for laptop equipped with a just two USB port, the hub even lets you attach or detach USB devices while your laptop is on, making it possible to switch devices which makes it perfect for speed-hungry multimedia, gaming, printers, mice, keyboards, phones, pda, scanners, and portable data storage devices in seconds.

I actually purchased this for my landlady. She has a laptop and did not have enough USB ports to use her printer as well as her other USB devices. This hub was very quick and simple to set up. I tested it to make sure the printer & other devices worked fine. She has been using it for 3 to 4 weeks now, no complaints or problems so far!

I can't believe I didn't catch it; this is a USB 1.0 hub and $18 is giant waste of money in 2008.... why are they still selling these!?? Anyone, incl. myself is a moron for paying $18 for a yester-year product. I autmatically assumed this is was 2.0 USB product.

This hub doesn't work with my headset or ipod. It needs a power adapter, which I haven't been able to find. Utterly useless without it.

This is an excellent hub providing you use an external power supply. The manufacturer used to make one, but it is no longer available. There are plenty of electronics supply houses (excluding Radio Shack) that sell a universal adapter that will work. You need a DC 5V 2.1 amp (2100 ma) adapter with a small barrel plug. Most universal adapters that fit the specifications also come with multiple plugs.

The Linksys Compact USB 4 Port Hub is a quick and easy way to expand the number of USB Ports on a computer, especially a laptop. You just plug it in,and start using it.
$18 down the drain - Review written on January 05, 2008

Does not support usb powered high-speed devices such as USB 2 external hard drives, scanners, etc. In the case of my Maxtor external hard drive, a pop-up warning comes up that advises you that the drive will operate at slower speed. In fact, the drive operated so slowly as to be useless. No external power supply is available anywhere for this USB hub. Should be either pulled from Amazon or the cover blurb should state that no AC power supply is available (and that without it this unit is useless unless you are just connecting keyboards, mice, and the like.) I will probably just trash it, not worth the trouble to return.

I have a "lesser expensive" HP that runs windows XP. This hub will run my printer, my scanner, and both my work and personal flash drives (both are 2gb) AT THE SAME TIME. There is no power issue and everything runs fast. Plug and play works in seconds. What more could you ask for - it works - and excellent at that!

As expected, it works fine.

What is unusual is that it always triggers a warning that it could be run at a higher speed.

Leads me to believe it's actually wired as a USB 1.1 device, not a USB 2.

The Linksys USB hub works as advertised. It will take 4 USB lines with no apparent loss in transmission speed. Its only major drawback for me was the very short (about 2 inches) connecting cable to the back of my desktop computer. As a result, it could not reach the floor and was hanging down. This did not seem to cause any problems, however. With a notebook computer as the core of a computing system, there would be no problem and it would give you the extra USB ports. I have had several Linksys routers on my household LAN with an Internet cable input and they have worked fine with tech support available when I needed it.

NO POWER SUPPLY - Review written on October 10, 2007

Rating: 2 out of 5

This nifty little USB Hub does *NOT* come with the power supply made for it, NEITHER can you purchase it from Linksys. After having called Linksys, they informed me that they are phasing out this product. If you plan to run USB devices off this hub that require little to no power, this product is great. I can hook up my mouse, printer, and USB Flash drive, but if you want to use, for example, a Wireless USB Card on this hub, IT WILL NOT WORK.

I was looking for a hub with some substance to it and a longer cable. We heard from LinkSys it is a well built product, so we decided to give it a try, and at that price, we ordered two! The day they arrived we thought we would have to rewire a lot. Not the case! The short "tail" keeps it close to the computer and long enough to be out of the way of the other cables. The short cable actually keeps the USB cables more organized also. If you need a USB hub, here it is and at a good price, too. One of the best buys I've made!
This is *not* USB-2.0! - Review written on September 14, 2007

Rating: 3 out of 5

I bought this hub because of the Linksys name and didn't need a power input. Agree it is kind of chunky, looks pregnant enough to give birth to a USB cable jack!! Please note that if you need USB 2.0 this hub is not compatible. When I plugged in my Fujitsu Scanner I kept getting alerts saying I wasn't getting optimal speed to/from the scanner so I just plugged in my Mouse and Keyboard into the Linksys, and plugged the Fujitsu into a USB port on the PC and all was fine.

An OK unit, but only works with USB1; thus unusable with anything remotely new, unless you don't mind waiting interminably for downloads, etc.

It works as advertised. My only gripe is that I didn't pay attention to the fact that it only supports USB 1.0 and 1.1. For now, I am using it only to connect my keyboard and mouse to my laptop.

I made the mistake of not paying enough attention and buying this USB hub thinking the 4-ports were 2.0; I was wrong. If your computer only has USB 1.1 ports then this might be a good deal, otherwise don't waste your time. This cuts your 2.0 connection down significantly.

Hub plugged in my single laptop USB port and worked as advertised. USB ports are close together on device as normal. For my use ( a network USB mini-card), the face dimension of the card overlapped two of the ports. This no problem since I had only two USB devices connected.

If you are running short of USB ports, this is just the perfect expansion. I just plugged it in and it game me 3 additional usb ports. I had absolutely no problems. If this is exactly what you need, why look any further.
