Doesn't live up to the hype. - Review written on November 29, 2008

When using the mixer it is not possible to scrape the sides of the bowl while it is mixing so you have to stop it every so often to clean the sides. If you don't have the protector on the top and even sometimes when you do, it throws flour, etc., all over the place. It is too heavy.
I prefer the old two beater type which the bowl rotates while mixing. I am disappointed in this product.

I've been cooking since I was a kid and never had any reason to own a stand mixer. As I got older and really influenced by the Food Network, I decided to buy one. Unfortunately, I thought the Macy's sale price of $299.00 + tax was good and I acted without checking amazing Amazon. Lo and behold its on sale for $209.00, $90.00 + tax more than I paid at Macy's. Oh well. Here's the scoop on using it. I've been making Pizza like a pro every Saturday night. What took me more than 1/2 hour of kneading by hand takes me no longer than 5 minutes with the mixer and the dough hook. I've made Italian bread that I'd put against any bakery loaf. I've mixed sauces like a pro. This machine really brings your cooking to another level. I am extremely happy with it.

The KitchenAid mixer is the gold standard for home baking. My mother has had one that she used for years and years and now I am finally grown-up enough to get my own!

Having a good quality stand mixer just makes everything easier. Sure, it is possible to do everything by hand or using a powered hand-mixer, but that isn't really anyone's favorite part of baking. Stuff gets splattered all over, it is hard to keep it even, and there is too much margin for error. Stand mixers just make those hard tasks quicker and more efficient, so you can spend more time on the fun parts.

So far, my new KitchenAid Artisan has seen the most action with its dough-hook. It kneads bread dough perfectly, although it has taken me a few tries to get used to it. The ingredients have to go in a certain order, moving dry to wet with the wet introduced slowly while the hook mixes. Fortunately, the KitchenAid comes with great instructions and some recipes to get you started.

The 5-Quart bowl holds a lot, and is easily enough for family-sized portions. All of the pieces, including the bowl, lock firmly into place so there is no worry about anything getting out of control. I have really appreciated the splash-guard which makes introducing wet ingredients trouble-free.

What really sets the KitchenAid Artisan apart from other mixers are the accessories you can buy for it. This is so much more than just a mixer, it is a whole kitchen machine. So far, I have the Ice Cream Maker Attachment, and I am really looking forward to trying my hand at making sausage with the Food Grinder Attachment and Sausage Stuffer set, or maybe some homemade pasta with the Pasta Roller. Ah, the possibilities!

I always wanted one of these for a very long time. Recently I got into bread making, and this is such a great helper. Just a note, I don't use the splash guard....it looks....cheap...but that is just me. other then that, I really don't know what else to say. Well, the kneading of the bread didn't turn out to be how i want, but it may just be i don't know how to use it...

I really love my new Kitchenaid. I have wanted it for a very long time but they usually cost so much. However, I kept checking on Amazon and saw the price go lower and lower and jumped on it. I have no regrets and my husband who thought it would be another appliance that just sits there has had to eat his words.

I have wanted a Kitchen Aid mixer for over 10 years, and finally purchased one. I have only used it a few times, but was amazed at how easy it was to use. Dough was mixed up in less than a minute! If I find anything negative, I will add more, but for now, I highly recommend this mixer!

As with many of you, I have been wanting a KitchenAid mixer for years. When my husband finally broke down and bought me one, I was estatic until I tried to use it to make bread. The first thing I noticed is that it did not mix the bottom or the sides of the bowl. I had to scrape the sides multiple times. Once I added the flour, the dough kept creeping up the mixer into the gears. When I tried to make cookies, I did more hand mixing than electric mixing. I can't decide if the bowl is just too small for what I am trying to do, or if I just don't know how to use this mixer. Either way, it is not a good match for me and I am extremely jealous of all of those who absolutely love it.

This was a wedding gift so I cannot actually rate the product. I can only assume it is a good product. However, I was disappointed that I ordered it gift wrapped as a wedding gift with a card and it arrived sans wrapping or card.

I got my KitchenAid Artisan 5-Quart mixer for Christmas almost 4 years ago. It is the best investment our family has ever made. I make bread dough in it 2-3 times a week. Up until a year ago, I was also using it that often to mill flour for the bread. I've used (with great success) the pasta and meat grinding tools that can be purchased separately. I'll be getting a Pro 600 for Christmas this year and passing this one on to a friend. Why? My family of six goes through bread too fast and I need a bigger mixing bowl! I'm a Suzie-Homemaker type as well as a very frugal shopper, and this mixer helps me be both! I have easily made back the money I spent on it by not having to buy bread, whipped cream, cake mixes, or many processed foods from the store. The friend who will be receiving my Artisan asked me if the mixer helps shorten my time in the kitchen. I had to be honest and tell her, "No, because now I cook and bake more. But it does make that time much more enjoyable!" My only regret is that I didn't have Santa bring me the bigger mixer 4 years ago!
Not a lasting product - Review written on November 18, 2008

I had one of these for 4+ years and it started to give me trouble after 2 years of use. First the head got stuck and wouldn't lift. After struggling with it for a while, I finally could lift it but then when put down, the head was lower than before and the paddle would touch the wall of the bowl - I had to use my hand to hold it up during the mixing process. Very frustrating! If you still prefer buying a KitchenAid mixer, I would suggest getting the kind that lifts the mixing bowl instead of the mixing head.
A Must-Have Appliance for Serious Cooks - Review written on November 18, 2008

This Artisan KitchenAid stand mixer replaces an older, less powerful (250 watts) KitchenAid that I bought twenty-two years ago and that finally was beginning to show its age. Like most serious cooks, I can't imagine cooking or baking without a KitchenAid.

So what's so great about this mixer? Well, for starters, it handles all mixing jobs, from small to large, from delicate to tough. The orbital mixing action ensures that ingredients are mixed efficiently, in less time than required by hand mixers. Read the instructions for correct speeds because recipes that say "beat at medium speed" do not refer to this mixer's mid-range; "four" is the medium setting out of ten. Users should also read the instruction for any attachments they may be using since they aren't intuitive. For example, my new ice cream attachment (KitchenAid KICA0WH Ice Cream Maker Attachment) needs to be set at the lowest setting ("stir") instead of the "six" I expected.

The brand is known for its durability, reliability, and versatility. Any appliance that lasts for over twenty years with only minimal signs of age offers real value. The motor on my old mixer was tough -- and I expect this one to be even tougher given the power. I have never taxed the motor enough to engage a shut down -- and this comes from someone who has burned out no less than three handheld mixer motors.

Besides the extra power, the Artisan seems pretty much the same as my old one except for a slightly heavier weight mixing bowl and a sturdier whisk attachment. My old attachments and extra bowls/paddles fit the new machine.

When people walk into my kitchen and see my mixer on the counter, they often say, "You must be a good cook!" That's because the KitchenAid mixer has become the hallmark of a gourmet cook. If you consider yourself in this category or want to buy a gift for a gourmet, look no further.

I have used my new mixer 3-4 times, from small batches of cakes to dough for rolling out dumplings. I am happy so far with the mixer & the results. During one bath of muffins it didn't seem to mix all of the dry ingredients with out a little bit of help from a spatula, but all in all a great mixer.

This mixer is way super sweet. The only thing I would say that is bad about it is it is pretty noisy when it is in operation. I assume it is the gears in it that are making the noise. Other than that it is simply amazing.

I bought my Kitchenaid mixer from Amazon over a year ago. As someone who loves to bake, I use it nearly every week! Whether mixing ingredients or kneading bread dough, it does all of the work for you. It is a great product that I hope to have in my kitchen for a long time! When comparing prices, Amazon seems to have the best deal.

I have been thinking about buying an Artisan for months. I finally decided, so I put it in my basket, and decided to check with my husband for a final decision about the color. A day later, the price jumped up almost $40! This is ridiculous. I think I'll buy it at Bed Bath and Beyond- at least they don't manipulate consumers as much!

A Great Asset to Any Kitchen - Review written on October 27, 2008

I've had my KitchenAid mixer for a couple of years and can say that it has been reliable and a great asset to the kitchen.

I've had a stand mixer for years, I had another brand before my KitchenAid, and I can say they make all the difference in the world. Hands-free mixing is wonderful.

The KitchenAid mixer is a beautiful mixer that looks great in anyone's kitchen since it comes in a vast array of colors.

It's powerful enough to make bread dough and huge batches of the thickest cookie dough and never gets bogged down. It whips egg whites in tall peaks effortlessly.

I deducted one star because it can be aggravating to scrape the bowl during mixing. The deep, narrow bowl means you have to turn the mixer off and lift the head to scrape around the bowl. And be sure to scrape around the bottom because the shape of the bottom of the bowl can leave some unmixed batter if you don't scrape. There is a screw that can be adjusted if you are experiencing too much unmixed batter on the bottom.

If you do any mixing or whipping more than just occasionally then you are sure to love a KitchenAid mixer. If you make a cake from a mix just a few times a year then a hand mixer would be a more affordable choice but for anything more, you'll love a stand mixer and of course, KitchenAid has become the standard for stand mixers in the everyday kitchen.

Be sure to check out all the different colors that you may be interested in, they usually run different prices and you may find a great deal on just a certain color.

I received my KitchenAid stand mixer as a housewarming gift three years ago and I don't think a week goes by when I don't use it. I use it for EVERYTHING, but it has especially helped me to improve my baking. It's a lot easier to make egg whites or fluff up a cheesecake when you're not trying to balance a hand mixer in one hand and a cookbook in the other!

This mixer is sturdy. The bowls and mixer blades are easy to remove but don't feel flimsy. The bowl is easy to handle, and everything cleans up easily.

I would recommend ordering another bowl, because if you use your mixer as much as I do, you'll always want to have a clean bowl at the ready!

I finally, after many years of waiting, took the plunge and ordered a Kitchenaid mixer. I read multiple reviews and decided on a 5 qt Artisan. I was delighted to find a great deal on Amazon with a rebate also. It was free shipping and arrived before the expected delivery date. I love the mixer and of course wished I had ordered one years ago. Amazon did a fabulous job making it affordable, easy to order and had free delivery for a product in great shape. I highly recommend Amazon and Kitchenaid.

I've used my mixer a couple of times since I purchased it last month. I LOVE IT. I've been putting off purchasing the mixer because I've always thought it was too expensive. I've checked around and this is the cheapest I've found. It works like a dream. I've used it to make cookies and to mix the Masa for tamales. It cut my work in half. I should've purchased it a long time ago.

Gets hot, mixing bowl does not anchor properly - Review written on September 22, 2008

Bought this mixer 6 months ago. Have used it only a few times for easy (i.e.soft) baked goodies. Simply creaming sugar and butter leaves the mixer scary hot and smelling like it's starting to burn. It seemed loud and it rumbled and bounced a lot while mixing.

Tonight I tried making a wet dough (imagine thick pancake batter). Needed to mix 12 minutes on medium - longest I've ever mixed something. It was banging and rocking and thumping all over the counter. We found it was because the bowl would not twist into it's dock. If you forced it in, there was NO WAY you'd ever get it off again. I was afraid of warping the bowl, seizing the motor, or knocking the paint off the paddle with my attempts at mixing...so why use it at all???!

Oh, and med and high mixing speeds don't seem to be any different.

I wrote to Kitchenaid and am awaiting a response. Right now, it feels like a very expensive, giant paperweight.
