worst press I've ever owned - Review written on August 10, 2007

Even the ones from Pick and save were better. First it takes the strength of Hulk Hogan to press whole cloves, then the handle broke and went flying across the room! Never again and their hand held cheese grater is not too great either, grates fine, but that handle broke off as well! No more Kitchenaid only my beloved stand mixer wich I give 10 stars.

it broke - Review written on May 22, 2007

Worked great for over a year. Cleaning it isn't so easy even with the little thing they give you. Then one day during normal use, the plastic handle snapped off. I moved to an all metal version to aviod this happening in the future.

I have owned two of these Kitchenaid garlic presses. They work great for awhile. Eventually (less than 2 years) the plastic handle will snap off due to the inherent design flaw. The plastic is merely glued to the metal which creates a weak area. I would recommend another press.
FAKE: not as sturdy as it looks - Review written on March 19, 2006

Judging from the price and the weight, I thought I was buying a garlic press that would be a pleasure to use and would last for ever. I was wrong.

The APPEARANCE of sturdiness is entirely cosmetic that is FAKE
Under the handles which look like solid metal with a plastic grip, you find that the center is a low-grade plastic. You find this out when when the garlic press BREAKS, and you can see construction.

I have never had a garlic press break before-- not even the very cheapest. Total waste of money.

I've had this for about 2 months and the handle snapped right off. When it was working it was great, but for the price I expected to get more than 6 uses! I'm very disappointed.

1 star for looks.
You will lose the brush, and then it will break when you try to press a nice large clove. Go for a more sturdy model (all metal).

I like the fact that it's a little bigger and has more heft, than some of the competition. It's worked great for me. I haven't had any problems with the handle, as other owners have reported and I run mine through the dishwasher all the time.

Handle just cracked and broke off for mine as well (see previous review). I had bought mine in Nov 2004 and used it about every other day.

Did a good job pressing the garlic, until it broke where the plastic met the chrome on the handle. Use caution.

I bought this garlic press because of the Kitchenaid name and because I got tired of processing so many cloves of garlic with just a chef's knife. When we got it, my husband (who shares cooking duty) was delighted at how it felt in his hands and at how much time it saved him. I was disappointed with the size - a little too large for my average-size female hands. Design flaw #1. I rallied and continued to use it (with both hands) for about a year and a half. Yesterday, the handle cracked and broke off. The metal portion of the press does not extend down the handle. Design flaw #2. I was pressing one small clove so I'm sure the break was not due to misuse. I'm going to follow the America's Test Kitchen recommendation and get a Zyliss next time.

After years of using garlic presses that just don't seem to measure up, I decided to spend a little extra money and get the KitchenAid press. This was money well spent! It's the best press I've ever owned and for once I feel like I am really getting the most out of my garlic! And it's easy to clean too. It's a little heavier than most, but that's okay with me - it does the job it's supposed to.

This is a very nice, well made and sturdy item. Not too heavy in weight. Load a couple of garlic cloves and push the handle - out comes minced garlic every time!! It has a great little brush that is used to clean the holes and stores inside the handle for easy access. Great design!! I love mine. You'll love yours, too.

This garlic press is very well made. It's got some weight to it, but no too much. Works on the biggest cloves of garlic leaving only the skin behind. Well worth the money. Easy to clean.

This is by far the best garlic press I have ever used. It doesn't leave behind half the garlic like most of them do, only a small amount of 'skin'... Very well made gadet, I was surprised at the weight.

I got one of these based on the hefty look and feel. It worked great for about 6 months but finally the plastic handle gave out. Granted we do use some big cloves of garlic but I think it was really due to the plastic handle just not being strong enough for repeated stress.

Zyliss Susi was our last press (for over 10 years) and it will be the next one, too.

Good for big hands, solid, weighty - Review written on August 01, 2003

Its a garlic press... what can you say. It is a solid metal press, fairly large, which is good for my big hands. I found it easy to clean, but the cleaning tool certainly gets the holes cleaned quicker. No need to pull skin off the bulbs. While the cleaning tool is plastic and may break or get lost the press itself should last. I don't know about shallots or small onions as one reviewer mentioned. They would need to be smallish shallots and cocktail onions or pre-sliced chunks.

I bought a cheaper ... garlic press (no brand name) at a local discount store. And as far as garlic presses go, you GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR. It was a piece of JUNK! All the garlic was going up the side, not through the holes... it was a BIG mess! So I decided to pay a little more for a nice brand. And let me tell you, this garlic press works WONDERFULLY. Garlic doesn't squish out the sides. All of the garlic comes out of the holes easily with ONE press. And this garlic press is VERY nice and heavy. Not heavy enough to be bad, just very sturdy and well-made. The cleaner is very nice to clean garlic out of the holes, and it can store with the press like the picture shows. If you are wondering if you should buy this, DO IT!! I absoultely love it, and it was worth every penny. I just wish I didn't waste my money on the other one in the first place!

The mighty KitchenAid return with a cracking press which makes short shrift of even the fattest garlic bulbs. I also tried it with a shallot, and even a small onion, and it gave me highly satisfactory results again and again. It's easy to wash, doesn't clog, and the faux enamel handle is wipe clean, so you can avoid any unsightly mess on your worksurfaces. Lovely.
