I use this grill almost every single day, honestly! I know it's large and takes up lots of counter space but it's not a real problem. It makes a great meal for the whole family and despite it's size, for just one person. It's wonderful for entertaining, I invited about 50 people over for my daughter's birthday party and made them teriyaki chicken with plenty of time to enjoy the party. Clean up is easy, just wipe it down immediately after you use it and if it has cooled down just turn it back on for a few minutes and with nothing more then a paper towel and some water it comes clean quickly. It's a great time saver, it cooks everything within 10 minutes and much more evenly then an outdoor grill and I don't miss the smoke or waiting for the coals to heat up. I pretty much make everything on it, it's great to grill sandwiches, quesadillas, bagels, even garlic toast comes out really great. I love to make fresh salsa and the grill is amazing for that. I grill fresh tomatillos, anaheim peppers, and a jalapeno, pop everything into the blender and ta da! a quick and delicious green salsa. I hardly use my stove anymore and I definitely don't use the oven at all. Even though I bought it on a whim, my best friend has one, this has been one of the best purchases I've ever made, worth every frugal penny I've ever spent.

This is our second George F grill. The first one burned out after about 5 years. We liked but could not get the same size so we got this one. It was bigger than we wanted but we had no other choices. WHAT A MISTAKE!!!! After less than one year and not heavy use the connector to the thermostat (spade conn.) just fell apart. Being the handy man that I am, I fixed it. Today (9/6/2005) it burned out again. This grill is a fire hazard and should be recalled. It is a piece of junk. We will replace it with a different brand. Thanks for nothing George.

...as long as you do it while the grill is still warm. I use ours 3 or 4 times a week and I use lots of those bottled marinades. As you all know, those are full of sugar and quickly become a burned-on sticky mess. But, I've found that I can take a damp paper towel or sponge and just wipe everything right off. If I do let the grill cool down, then I just plug it back in for a minute to re-heat it before I clean it. For really thick clean up, just drizzle a little water from the sponge onto the burned food. It will sizzle up and wipe right off. I've had this since Christmas and haven't had any problem with the non-stick finish lifting off. I can honestly say that if something happened to mine, I'd replace it the same day...I use it that much.

I loved this grill for two years -- using it for burgers (six big ones), salmon fillet, boneless chicken breasts and thighs, steaks, boneless pork and more. But it is a bear to clean -- I always make a huge mess in the kitchen when cleaning it, but cooking is a tidy job -- no grease splatters, food comes out tender and juicy. It now drips grease onto the counter in addition to the drip tray. And the non-stick coating has worn, and I have to buy a new one because it won't come clean enough to use it even one more time. It's done. But I loved it while it lasted.

I've had this unit for several years and just went back to the family size grill for our family of 4. We're trying to eat healthier, smaller portions and, being the "kitchen manager," I decided the jumbo size just wasn't worth the trouble anymore. I'm giving it 3 stars here because not only did the nonstick coating wear off a little too soon to suit me, but the power cord got hot (which always worried me), and perhaps the biggest disappointment was that the lid would not fully open under any of my kitchen cabinets. The unit is that large. I could only use this grill on my kitchen island. You probably won't want to leave it out (because it's so big), but then it's not easy to store either for the same reason. Just be sure you really want/need this large size if you're going for this grill. I do love the Foreman grills but this one was just a bit too large to be a convenient kitchen appliance.

I generally avoid all infomercial products as a general principle, but the small George Forman grill was offered at such a great price on Amazon, I couldn't resist.

I was interested in duplicating the very expensive (over $8.00 each) grilled chicken quesadillas sold at a take out gourmet-style shop in town, so I intended to purchase a panini grill. For less than the price of two of these sandwiches, I bought the George Forman mini grill.

The reason I'm posting my review on the jumbo grill site is that I think this is probably the most popular size and I want to share my cleaning tips.

I had previously purchased a large bunch of 100% cotton "bar" towels (approx 14" x 18") from my local warehouse club. I bake bread frequently and like the nap of these towels (which have a thin ribbed washcoth texture) for removing flour and specks of dough off of my countertops and mixer.

Working from the cleaning tips of other George Forman reviewers, when I'm finished cooking, I wet a clean bar towel and place it in the hot UNPLUGGED unit while we eat. The stuck ingredients steam clean and I can rinse out the towel and use it to gently scrub the unit down. The towel is washed in the washing machine with my kitchen towels...and no wasted papertowels! I avoid sponges, because of the materials they are made of...not sure if they should be heated...and I don't want to leave residues of soap on my grill.

Hope this helps.

After much deliberation and research, I finally purchased the GR36CB grill. I'd considered the newest version because it has the detachable, washable plates, but it wasn't big enough to suit my needs. I made my first meal on it last night (marinated chicken breasts) and was very pleased with the results. It got plenty hot enough - cooked four large breasts in 9-10 minutes. I loved that they stayed very moist, too. I had marinated them in a store-bought 30-minute marinade. The grill looked terrible when I finished cooking, but I was pleasantly surprised with the clean-up after reading so many frustrated reviews about the clean-up process. I had sprayed the grill before preheating with PAM, then used the spatula provided while the grill was still warm (after our meal was over) and everything came off. I needed to wipe it with a wet rag and then run a paper towel over it, but it looks brand new again. The only warning is that clean-up is MESSY - the dried bits of cooked chicken/marinade stuck to the grill kind of go all over while you're wiping the grill off, but it is easy enough to clean up the counter. My only other concern is that my chicken breasts were very thick (at least 1.5 inches in spots) and those areas got a bit charred while cooking, but not enough to affect the taste. Flipping the breasts over halfway through cooking helped with the next batch. Next time I'm going to slightly pound them to a thinner thickness to help with more even cooking. At any rate - if you need the BIG grill (I have six in my family), I really recommend this grill. Don't be scared off by the cleaning unless you really consider yourself a neat freak. Just imagine having to wipe down your outside grill every time you have a meal - of course it is a messy thing, but it is possible to get it clean with not that much effort. Quick, tasty, healthy meals!!!

I've had a George Foreman jumbo grill for nearly a year now, and my wife and I use it around 3 times per week. When we first got it, we marveled at how fast it cooked burgers, hot dogs, chicken cutlets, steaks, pork chops, fresh vegetables, fish, etc. Considering we both work, it was very convenient to be able to come home and cook up dinner in a few minutes.

But in the past few months the novelty is beginning to wear off--along with the teflon coating. It doesn't seem to be very durable, even when you use plastic utensils. I think it's causing food to burn easier, so I really need to keep a close watch on what I'm cooking now. Also, the unit now emits lots of pops and pings when it heats up, which it never did in the first few months. Sounds like the grill may be on its way out in the not-too-distant future.

The biggest problem, as many of the other reviewers noted, is cleaning. This grill really is a pain in the neck to clean, unless you're cooking something not too messy like hot dogs. The grease drips down into the cracks underneath the grilling surface, as does the water and soap when you clean the grill (there must be lots of gunk inside the unit!). And if you cook anything with sauce on it, you're in for a real tough cleanup. I bought the George Foreman sponges, which were a big help but didn't make the process any more tolerable. Cleaning the grill leaves a big mess on the kitchen counter.

I've recently become much less inclined to use the George Foreman grill because of the inconvenient cleanup (lots of scrubbing, paper towels and counter mess). Plus, I think the wear and tear is now causing the grill to cook food unevenly. Food doesn't seem to be turning out as well as when we first used the grill.

An indoor grill with a removable grilling plate is a better option. We had a Farberware indoor grill with a removable surface, and it's FAR easier to clean (a couple of minutes, a couple of paper towels--and can put in sink). It also has a higher-quality construction--I use brushes to clean the surface and the bristles don't peel off the teflon, plus there's no popping and pinging during heating. It also cooks MUCH better--food looks like it was grilled outside and cooks more evenly, especially if you want to retain some of the meat juices (the two sides of the Foreman grill sometimes squeeze everything out of the meat and rubberize it). Still, it does take longer to cook than the Foreman grill.

I have been using one of the smaller grills for a while. All of the George forman grills are excelent. But I found that one the smaller ones sometimes there wasn't enough room. This one is a bit bigger than what I wanted. But I found it used at a great price. The extra room isn't a bad thing. George forman grills are great for bacon, burgers, chicken breast. I would bet its good for pork chops or steak. I use mine all the time. If you are a meat eater, you realy should get a george forman grill.

I owned the original George Foreman Fat Fighting Grilling Machine that came out years ago and it was TINY! Perfect for one person or making snacks. I was hoping they would make a larger version and found it in this one. You can make an entire healthy low carb meal with this indoor grill! It even works well making panini (grilled sandwiches)!

Although the grill is non-stick, it is best if you spray the top and bottom grill with a little olive oil or your food. Cleaning is pretty easy but be careful! Use the plastic scraper/spatula included to lift the food out. Scraping hard with the inclosed spatula CAN effect the finish. I've learned from experience. To maintain ANY non-stick cookware, clean with a damp sponge and wipe dry with a paper towel. Cleaning the grill IMMEADIATELY after cooking while it is still warm (and unplugged) will make clean up a breeze.

(...)

This version does not come with a timer or temperature control (otherwise I would have given it 5 stars). A newer version came out with these functions and a split lid so that you would have two different temperatures on one grill but alas, the cooking area becomes split as well. Use some common sense! Don't leave the grill unattended with ANY version. Cooking is fast and practically half the time it would take conventionally. Grill foods that take longer to cook first and then add the foods that take less time. By the time cooking is totally finished, everything will be done at the same time. When the light goes off the grill has reached maximum temperature so just time everything.

Our family has had great luck with this product. We use it for shrimp, salmon, medallions of pork, etc. Cleanup is ok if you run water over the griddle immediately, after unplugging, of course. Our Weber Genesis was down for a while, and this was a great substitute. I even lent it to a friend who was in between grills her family loved it, too: but when she bought another model Foreman her results were less than expected. We are fairly light users of it, but think it works great.

I have had a george foreman grill for over 3 years. I started out with a smaller grill and used it daily for months. The non-stick surface wore away when someone cleaned it with an abrasive surface. I have had this large grill for 5 months and its invaluable to any cook without alot of time. Everyone has paid special attention on how to clean the grill. I always spray a little non-stick spray on the cooking surfaces that come into contact with any food, this seems to keep the grill in pristine condition.

Like a few other reviewers, I've had a few problems with the foreman grills where the outer shell becomes discolored, no matter if you wash it after every use. Both grills that I bought have had the problem of grease mysteriously covering the countertop while the driptrays were in place.

I loved this grill since Im a student on the go but since I started Atkin's over 6 months ago, its priceless. I use it 3 times a day and it heats up just as quickly as the day I purchased it. I have bought 6 grills for other people, every person uses it on a daily basis.

This has to be my most used kitchen appliance! Someone in this house uses it daily at some point because it's so easy to throw in a frozen piece of meat..include some frozen/fresh veggies and you have a warm, healthy meal in minutes with no grease, no draining and no defrosting. MUCH better than having the kids microwave some pre-made, unhealthy 'quickie food' from the freezer when hungry. Thas was my favorite part, being able to throw in a frozen chicken breast and have it cooked perfectly, quickly and with no hassle. Plus the huge size allows me to add enough meat for the entire family and no cooking for hours either.

The ease of use is it's best quality. Convenience saves time although that brings us to the only problem we've found..cleaning up. It would help if the grill part was removable to clean. Although I've had various waffle makers that had the metal parts removable and springs broke, moisture got underneath into the mechanical areas and it also became a hassle so we don't find this is too big a problem as there are less parts to keep track of. All in all we love it!

I started with the smaller grill. With a family of 4. I bought the larger grill to avoid cooking one steak at a time. Most people are right on with their reviews here! This grill does a great job with ANYTHING you decide to grill. I've even done pork chops! Clean up is a pain. But you have to take the good with the bad. If you need a steak well done,(like my husband) try slicing it into thinner steaks so it doesn't dry out and burn! A medium rare steak will appear with no effort from you with in a few minutes! You can't go wrong here, I use mine FOR EVERYTHING!

I bought this unit because I live in an apartment and my neighbors (and fire department)would frown on my barbecuing inside my livingroom. It's okay for most double griddle situations (it's really not a grill at all) such as ham steaks, flat fish and chops. It is faily easy to clean, and the savvy chef can use the drippings to use as a glaze or gravy. It is VERY FAST. I cooked a frozen sea bass filet (0.5 inch thick)in under six minutes. Most meat, fish and poultry have retained their moisture content. It is excellent for frozen hamburger patties.

On the downside the heat and timer units are fairly clunky and the indicator labels wear off easily. It does not grill in the sense of the word, and therefore does not recreate the taste of a true barbecue. Think of it as a griddle, equal heat top and bottom, like a waffle iron.

I've only owned the grill for a short while, but I can tell you that it is worth every penny I spent on it, and worth dealing with all its potential issues. I love a good cut of pork, so I buy them regularly and grill them on my GFG (they take approximately six minutes to grill). Imagine my surpise at discovering recently I have lost two inches from my waistline! Owning the grill has certainly changed the way my family eats for the better, and for that reason alone I rate this product five stars. George Foreman, you have made a true believer out of me!
Good grill with some drawbacks - Review written on September 01, 2003

I've had my grill for over 6 months now. I like the way it cooks foods quickly but it has a few drawbacks that I think reduce its overall rating

Pros:
1. For the most part cooks quickly and pretty evenly
2. Comes with a decent receipe book

Cons:
1. No on/off switch. You have to plug and unplug to power it off or on. There is a power light to show when it's on.
2. No temperature control and no temperature indicator
3. Grill is not removable for cleaning - even with a "non-stick" surface and a spray on non-stick things still seem to stick to it pretty agressively and require a pretty good scrubbing to remove. The non-stick surface also seems poorly bound to the grill so the life of the grill may be shortened since it can't be replaced.

I like the concept but the execution is slightly lacking - if they made these improvements I would buy another one.

I think the George Foreman Grill is great on days when it's just not feasible to use the real thing... My "mom-in-law" recommended it to me and she seemed thrilled at how easy the clean-up was. Well, the first time I used it, I had a big problem when it came time to clean. The food was sooo stuck on it, it took 20 minutes of hard scrubbing to get it off. When I told her, she told me the trick. When you're done cooking unplug the machine and close it on several WET paper towels. (Not just damp, but not dripping either.) Then you can sit and have dinner without having to clean a "hot" grill. And when you're done eating, clean-up should be a breeze.

WELL Folks - this is kind of a "Review in Progress" with updates following the progressof this quite remarkable machine - once hooked you just gotta use it, clean convenient, basically smokeless, and quite safe for adults - don't let the kiddies near it though [speaks for itself]. AND clean-up is a cinch ~ simplicity.

BUT - after about 8 weeks of fairly constant use - 3 to 4 times per week, it 'seems' to take just a little longer to 'fire-up' - the thermostat is now audible - one can hear the elements clicking .......... and then there's the 'shell discoloration' Yep! Although 'smokeless' the once pristine outer shell is beginning to yellow - around the edges - especially the top.

SO updates will follow ...... not sure about the longevity of this babe.....

I am a full-time student, mom of two very active boys, and married to an often-traveling husband. With our schedule, fast and easy is a necessity. This grill is awesome. You can have a delicious, nutritious meal on the table in 10 minutes or less. Clean-up is really easy too. While the grill is still hot pour a small amount of water over the hot plates, be sure to have an empty drip tray ready! The drippings slide right off the grill and you can just paper towel it dry.

I bought the smaller version of this grill years ago, and it's still going strong. However, I just recently upgraded to the super jumbo size to accommodate my teenager's growing appetite and I absolutely love it!

I've had one of the little GFGs (George Foreman Grills) for about two years. We love it and still use it heavily. But we are a family of five, with 3 teenage boys who like to eat.

Now I can grill meats and vegetables side by side. I can throw up to eight burgers, some nice steaks (even a whole london broil with room for grilled peppers, onions, and mushrooms) and especially, finally, a whole large fish. We no longer have to eat in shifts, and believe it or not, to me, this thing is MUCH easier to clean than the smaller versions.

We were concerned about the counter space, storage, etc., but this has now pretty much replaced many of the utensils and pans we used for frying and broiling. The big GFG has its own space in a cabinet now, unlike the little one which was always jammed-in somewhere.

This is a nice value.

I have to tell you that I love this thing! I am a working Mom with two kids and this has been one of the best things that I have ever gotten. I cooked a full sized london broil on it last night in 8 minutes. It was done perfect! When we first got it I had a hard time believing that the food would really be done in that amount of time so I used an oven thermometer that I had and it was right every time. Now the longest part of making dinner is the side dishes. My husband is even excited about it. He is still one of those guys that love to cook with fire (the out side grill) but he even said it sure beats standing out side in the cold and dark trying to guess weather or not your steak is done.
The recipe book that comes with it is even great. It has lot of really easy ideas to get you started. Of course you can still use all of your old favorites or create new ones.
