Came in a box and was almost completely assembled. Cuts smoothly, folds up nicely, mulches well, height adjusts well, bags well... and it's light, fume-free, what's not to like?
Used only once - Review written on October 15, 2008

I've only used this mower one time since receiving it, but I was very pleased with the way it handled. The wheel size is better than the mower it replaced and so much easier to change the cutting height. I used to have to get down on the ground and struggle to change the height on each wheel on my old mower one at a time. I'm sure I will enjoy this mower for years to come.

Good Choice for Corded Electric Mower - Review written on October 10, 2008

Rating: 5 out of 5

I am pleased with my new 19" Black & Decker Lawn Hog. It does a good job with none of the hassles of a gasoline engine mower. I prefer dealing with the cord to worrying about keeping the battery charged or it's life span (plus it's cheaper than a battery operated). Too bad the handle doesn't flip over, which helps keep the cord on the correct side, but it's light, so turning to go the other way is easy.

Excellent Mower - Review written on October 09, 2008

Rating: 5 out of 5

I have owned a Black & Decker electric mower since 1980 and it was completely problem free for all these years. It was used every week during cutting season and was great! I hit a tree root and bent the blade shaft and if it was not for my carelessness I probably would have used it another 20 years. Black & Decker makes a darn good electric mower. I have cut my grass with this Lawn Hog mower several times and it lives up to my expectations. The only disappointment I have with the new mower is that there is not a side discharge. I am sure I'll get used to this though. I would definitely recommend this mower. It is very quite and easy to use.
Great, easy to push mower - Review written on October 04, 2008

Rating: 5 out of 5

This mower is great! It is easy to push. The mower cuts through the grass, even when it is a little long and neglected, with no trouble. It is quieter than a gas mower, easier to maneuver and you don't have to put up with the hassle of the smell and filling of a gas mower. There are many lawn height adjustments with this mower and it has the benefit of being a mulching mower as well! Another positive thing about this mower is when you put the bag on to catch the clippings, when he grass is too long to want to use it as a mulching mower, the bag does not keep falling off, like on many other lawn mowers I have had!

After back surgery I could no longer start my gas lawnmower engine. The electric lawnmower really works great and we have a good sized lawn to mow. The plastic control handles are kind of cheap but adequate. This is easy enough for my wife to use and cut the lawn. The shipping from amazon via UPS took a long time and when it arrived the box the mower came in was really mauled and the mower handle was damaged. The mower box is not heavy duty enough to ship across country. The first time my wife used it the lawn was quite tall but this mower cut through it quite well. Exccept for the opening being too small for the grass rear bagger and the cheap plastic control handle this is a good mower.
Not as good as my old Craftsman electric - Review written on September 27, 2008

Rating: 3 out of 5

I previously had a Craftsman corded electric for about 25 years. It worked great, had good vacuum action, and was well built.

This B&D MM875 seems flimsy, especially the on-off lever. Mowing always leaves strips of uncut grass even though I overlap each strip. This requires re-mowing the same areas. The grass also looks lumpy when I'm done. If it had better vacuum action, I believe the results would be more acceptable.

The cable holder is a good idea but requires crimping the cable too much to get it into the opening. It would seem that the cable won't last long because of that.

I don't believe it's possible to get 25 years out of this mower like I did the previous Craftsman.

I gave this mower every chance but here is a brief description of pros and cons. For reference, I have about 1/3 acre yard and a heavy duty 100 foot cord. I bought the mower and cord at Lowes when we bought our house at the end of June. I have used it about 7-8 times.

Pros:
1. Easy to start - just pull the lever.
2. Can mow just as fast as with a gas mower once you get the cord management thing down.
3. Can adjust mower height by pressing a button and moving the mower base up or down.
4. No gas, oil or fumes to deal with (one of the main reasons I bought it).
5. Has the option of mowing with the bag or as a mulcher.
6. Easy to clean since you can turn the mower on its side.
7. Easy storage.

Cons:
1. The cord WILL occasionally get caught on something or you will step on it by accident.
2. The blade dulls way fast. I have had to sharpen it already and noticed that it had large chips missing from the blade after I hit a rock.
3. Lowes does NOT sell the replacement blade where I live even though they sell the mower.
4. It cuts grass fine but will not cut weeds of any length completely the first time. This requires you to mow over the same are TWICE. It normally cuts over part of the path but not over the whole path. This results in a shorter cutting width and therefore it will take you at least TWICE as long to mow your yard. Maybe this is partially due to the chip in the blade but I can't find a replacement blade locally.
5. For a yard my size, I have to unplug and move to another outlet 3 times to cover my yard. I knew this already and this was okay.
6. The bag is extremely small and will require several dumpings in order to finish your lawn. I abandoned the bag and used the mulching mode.
A Good "Green" Choice for Me - Review written on September 08, 2008

I like my Black and Decker Lawn Hog #MM875. I have a small lawn this machine works well. It is not the best mulcher in the world, but no big deal. I had to get used to the power chord, but in order to be "green" it was worth it.
Some good, some not so good - Review written on September 05, 2008

First, the good.
1. Doesn't need gas
2. Doesn't need oil
3. I liked the wheel adjustment.
Now the not so good:
The deck or blade housing is designed primarily to provide cooling for the motor. There's a small fan on the bottom of the shaft that helps with the airflow but it detracts from the efficiency of grass collecting.
As a result, grass collection suffers.
The deck design is close to the ground in front and it pushes the grass down; the result being an uneven cutting.
The mesh in the collection bag is course enough to let small clippings and dust flow through. If you wait until the grass is dry enough to cut, you will usually get a lot of dust. If you try to cut grass while it's still damp, the mower doesn't have quite enough power.
The current draw on the motor, 12 amps, requires a large wire size extension cord, preferably a minimum of 14 gauge but the method of securing the cord to the mower requires a small cord.
More poor engineering.

It has been 2 months since I bought this one. I am glad to make the right decision
Before I bought this electric lawn mower, I did some homework. I found B&D electirc lawn mower is the most popular one. Based on the past experience on power tools, I chose the corded one. It took some practice to manage the extended cord when mowing around. As long as you started mowing from the point close to the outlet back and forth, you will be fine. Also the tip from one of the poster to use the non-stick spray really help before first use.
Two weeks ago I noticed one of my neighboors also used the same model. Haha...

Thsi mower has not got an adjustable handle and it is too low unless you are 5'4" tall or less. Since the shortest person who uses this mower is 5'8" tall, we are all screwed.
The ad promised an adjustable handle but it is NOT adjustable.
No matter how well it mows it kills your back so B&D may be in for a disability lawsuit soon for killing 3 people's backs.

I bought this product back in 2004, replacing an older gas mower after my neighors house caught fire from a leaking gas can in his garage. Used the electric mower until 2007, when I treated myself to a mow/blow/go gardner. I just stuck the machine out in the side yard and never touched it. In July 2008, I pulled it out to mow a newly planted lawn not covered by my mow/go guy. Plugged it in, and it started right away, try that with a gas mower. My new house has 2300 sf of front and back lawn, this mower just gobbles up that lawn. It does bog down in taller/thicker patches, hence only 4 stars. But it gives a nice clean cut. Changing the blade was easy. And it does a nice job of mulching, my lawns look great. I will never own a gas mower!

I did all my research on electric mowers and narrowed it down to this particular mower. It came just like it said, out of the box, tighten a few knobs and plug in and start mowing. It was light and very little vibration and it did take a little to get used to the cord. I finished the back yard and moved to the front. I plugged it back up and pulled the lever. And nothing... I check the cord and outlet, cord was fine and it s the kind that has a light on the end to show its getting power. I took it back to the back yard to double check, dead. I called the black and decker customer service, and they stated to bring it to the nearest black and decker store for service. Brand new item, broken on first use, nah. I would not recommend this item to anyone. Funny thing also, i had a conversation with a guy who used to work at a hardware store the next day after this fiasco, and he said that he was there for like 2 years and they sold like 3 and they were returned. So, i guess it on to research push reel mowers or break down and buy one that uses gas, like i dont spend enough on gas........

A little short on power - Review written on August 13, 2008

This is the second mower of this model I have owned. In new heavy grass you will have to mow a half row at a time and then overmow again to get an even cut and the grass small enough. Be sure and avoid the natural tendancy of rolling it over a steep bank to get the weeds as a rock strike deflected the blade into the bottom plastic of the mower and it was destroyed--chopped up. I didn't want to pay the price for a battery power mower so got this one again and am being more careful.
Poor Quality Mower - Doesn't Bag Well - Review written on August 10, 2008

I recently purchased the Black & Decker 19 inch electric mower. On the second use I hit one of the sprinkler heads. It totally trashed the motor. Knocked it out of alignment and tore up the magnets. It is now a $250 piece of junk on the lawn mower repair guy's junk pile.

This mower is very cheaply made. The shell and most parts are plastic. The motor casing is very thin sheet metel, a few steps above tin foil.

Stay away from this product !!!
Great for smaller yards! - Review written on August 03, 2008

Rating: 4 out of 5

After debating what type of mower to buy for several weeks, I read a review of this B&D electric mower in Consumer Reports. At $4/gallon for gas, I didn't want a gas mower. I also hate the smell and thought of having gas cans in the garage. (not to mention smelling like gas after mowing the yard) So I bought the electric mower. This electric is perfect for my yard (about 1/4 acre).
The PROS: It can be used with the included bag or as a mulching mower, it has one button height adjustment, it is quiet, clean, and practically maintenance free, it is light and easy to maneuver. The CONS: The cord can be a pain to deal with until you figure out a system (cut closest to the cord first and work your way away from the cord as you mow).

So far so good. It cuts the grass nicely and just like everyone else, it takes one mowing to get used to the cord. Its not bad at all, very quiet and you dont smell like exhasut when you are done.
Noisier than expected - Review written on July 29, 2008
* * * *
Rating: 4 out of 5

The mower works very well. Reviews touting the quietness of the machine exaggerated this feature. I detect very little difference between the noise level of this mower and conventional gas mowers. The beauty of the machine is that, since it derives all its power from a combination of electricity generated by my rooftop solar panels and from the electric company's wind power, it is totally independent of fossil fuels.

I decided to go green and bought electric mower, edger/trimmer and blower (all corded). I felt like driving Prius while mowing the lawn :)

It did not last long though. I mowed the lawn first time with factory settings and it worked fine. I was going on the vacation so I set it to cut 2 inches. It barely worked for 5 feet and stopped. I reverted the setting but it would not start. Since it was still under 30 day return window, I decided to call it a day.

Pros:
- Going green is responsible things to do
- No smoke is blessing for people with allergies like me.
- Pretty light weight
- Assembly is pretty simple

Cons:
- Be ready to shell out $30-40 for cord
- Mowing with cord is not simple as it seems. I felt dumb at times wondering which direction to mow now.
- Not as powerful as gas mower and not self-propelled.
- Unreliable (it broke down with in 3 weeks)

What a pleasure to use. Just open the box tighten two knobs, plug in and mow. No gas, no oil, no filters, what a way to go.
My grass had grown a little tall after the demise of my last mower (not a B & D) but this light little beauty plowed right through it with out a problem at all.
I have not used the bagger yet but it's assembley was also as easy as could be.

This mower is very easy to assemble from the box. The mower deck height adjustment is great. Power for cutting thick grass is adequate, but if using the mulching feature don't let the grass get too high. For my small lawn of about fifteen hundred square feet this mower is perfect.

I hate reading manuals, a neighbor loves to and was trying to procrastinate....unfortunately, it barely took tightening a few screws/bolts(?) and I was mowing. The handle height is adjustable; I tried the height set "as is" out of the box (low to fit in the box), and I liked that it is low because it makes it more manueverable for me. It more comfortable than I've found the heights of others' mowers. Plug it in and lift the lever on the handle and it's on. On the initial pass, I forgot to consider adjusting the mower height and it cut the grass at it's lowest setting before I stopped and realized....a mistake that would (not) have made reading the instructions worth it! ;-) The height adjustment is simple - truly one touch for all 4 wheels.

So, on the initial mow, I was a bit careful, after all it's just an electric mower. The grass clipping catcher works. I'm careful to mow when it's dry. After some encouragement from a friend that electric or not, it's a mower....I've treated it with less care on my less than pristine lawn with woods and meadow encroaching....it works. It's tough and light weight and doesn't feel too big thanks to the handle height. It does have a cord, but I didn't want to deal with batteries. It's just what I was looking and at a good value.

If you think you might be interested in an electric mower go for it. This mower is lighter, easier to push and maneuver, and just easier to use than a gas mower. I tend to wait too long to cut my grass, and even when it gets tall this mower can take it down, although it might take two passes to do it. I like this mower because all you have to do is plug it in, and the height adjustment does all four wheels at the same time and is super easy. I don't think "cord management" is a very big deal either, just start where you plug in at, and mow away from that spot. Using this mower doesn't take any more or less time than any other mower, It's just faster to set up and go. I'd recommend this mower to anyone with a yard that can be easily reached by an extension cord.

This one is definitely not for me. I bought this here @ Amazon, but gave it back.

Pros:
1. Lightweight, like toy
2. Saves on GAS
3. Emission free
4. No Pull start

Cons:
1. Need 12 amp wire, thick and heavy to work with.
2. Uphill could be a tough battle as this is not a self propelling one.
3. The thick wire kills/breaks garden plants on the way while mowing.
