A fantastic backyard pool! - Review written on April 16, 2008

I bought this for our three-year old son, and he absolutely loves it. He took swimming lessons last year just to get familiarized with water and "learn" the basics, but this year when we took him to the pool he was scared and didn't really want to let go of us in the water. Well he took to it like a duck to water (ha ha). It's shallow enough that he doesn't get scared, and big enough that he can splash around and scoop and kick. It's also big enough that my wife and I can lounge in one end while he plays around the pool. The pool itself is very well made and feels sturdy leaning against it.
I got a 120"x72" cover with drawstring to fit over it at the local K-Mart for $10, and placed an extra-thick tarp under it to protect it from things poking up from ground.
I also bought an Intec electric pump to fill it up, but didn't realize that it was a rechargeable unit that had to be charged up from the household AC wall outlet for 10 hours (!) first. Luckily I had a $10 foot pump unit and it inflated the pool in no time (I may just be out of shape, but it took quite a bit of effort! But just to note, it is possible to inflate the pool without using an electric pump, contrary to some other reviewers' notes).
The drain plug is in a corner at the bottom of the pool, and at first, when I tried to drain it, it wouldn't work, because of the water pressure holding the drain hole flat against the ground under it. Let me tell you, the idea of using a bucket to empty out 1,000 gallons didn't sound too appealing! But then I came up with a super easy solution. Simply use a foot or so long PVC pipe (no wider than an inch). Either file down smooth the edges on one end, or do what I did, wrap some electric tape around one end with about 1/8" of tape hanging over the end. Then gently slide the PVC pipe under the pool to where the drain hole is, and voilà ! the pool will drain by itself. Because of the shape of the bottom of the pool, even when the pool won't drain any further, there's still a bit of water left at the bottom that needs to be scooped out.
We're very much looking forward to getting a good use out of this pool during the summer, and when the weather gets a bit cooler, will be turning this into a ball pit. For $30, this is an excellent purchase. Highly recommended!
Great little pool for young kids - Review written on August 03, 2006

My parents bought this pool for a big summer party they had, and a ton of kids used it (I'd estimate 20 kids, mostly under 7 years, in and out of it all day). Then I took it home and set up for my daughter's 5th birthday, which saw 8 kids jumping, swimming and spalshing in it. And we've used it daily since then (all summer). It did have a small pin-hole after the first use that probably happened in moving it to our house (in the back of the truck), but was easily patched with clear Liquid Nails. We haven't had any trouble with deflating, collapsing, leaking, etc. since then.
It is a pain to drain the water because the weight of the full pool keeps water from getting out of the small drain hole on the bottom (we've tried on the grass and on the driveway - even overnight the thing is still full). I have to let the air out of the top 2 rings to get the water out. But we bought a large bicyle-type pump (in the pool section of ToysRUs) which works ok - air compressor would be better.
It does get dirty - particularly with our hard water. So even with a cover and chlorine I have to dump the water every few days. It would be nice to have a filter, but then again - it's only a $30 pool. I give the kids a butterfly net and have them get the grass out when they are playing in the pool.
The kids absolutely love it (I have 3 obnoxious little monsters, 3, 5 & 7 years) and they give it a pretty strenuous workout every day. It's held up well and will hopefully still be useable for next year. On the REALLY hot days, I even get in with them, and I can see why they love it. They can really swim in it, rather than "wade" like they did in the little plastic one.
It won't compare to the easy-set type pools with filters etc., but it's a great kiddie-pool. I plan to have this pool or one like it for at least a few more years.
Finally an inflatable pool that's durable - Review written on July 02, 2004

(...) We've only had this pool for a couple of weeks but my kids have used it everyday. They are 4 and 5 and have spent hours jumping in landing on the sides of the pool and having water fights.
Set up of the pool took me less than 10 minutes. I used my bouce around fan to fiil the air chambers about 90 percent full. This took about 5 seconds each chamber. Then I finished it with a regular hand pump. The water filled up in just about 20 minutes. The water goes to a little over a foot high, but it's still big enough and deep enough for my kids to use floaties and snorkels etc. "Knock on wood" We haven't had any holes, leaks or anything like that.
I gave it a five for educational value because I have put funnels, sieves, measuring cups etc. in the pool for my kids to become "water chemist"
If you're looking for a pool that requires little maintainence, that can be drained and refilled on a daily basis, and is durable and inexpensive, this may be the pool for you.
