What can I say, I like controversy and when this album came out there was a lot surrounding it. Released on Death Row (or Tha Row as they are now known) this album dropped a few weeks before Snoop's other album "Tha Last Meal" at the end of 2000. "Dead Man Walking" was hardly promoted nor recognized in the Hip Hop community, mainly because Snoop didn't want anyone to buy nor hear this album since it was released on Death Row Records at the time. Snoop and his people made it known to all radio, tv, and internet stations toting that if anyone were to promote, play, or distribute the "Dead Man Walking" album there was no way in hell he was going to be on "friendly terms" if the media wanted his input (interviews, appearance, ect.) concerning "Tha Last Meal" in any way. Well needless to say the threats worked and "Dead Man Walking" was ignored in order to make Snoop happy and keep positive ties with the media he was in tune with. Even with all the controversy, personally I would have to say that "Dead Man Walking" is Snoop's second best album behind "Doggystyle". It was said to be his scraps and bits left on the studio floor, well if it was Death Row sure created a hell of a good album. This album is where Snoop shines, with his great flow, the deliveries of his rhymes are in tune with the g-funk beats littered throughout this album. When I listen to this album there are about one of two tracks that I skip over such as "Tommy Boy" and "Country Blues" as being sub par, but overall it was a very well produced album. Tracks that shine are #6's "Change Gone Come" with it's classis West Coast beat and sultry chorus line it reminds you of the good old 1993 days, #7's "Too Black" is a track that just hypnotizes you with it's smooth bass line and Snoop's lazy vocals that give it that gangsta feeling that we have all grown to love and is my favorite track on the album. #3's "Head Doctor" is reminiscent to something you would hear in the club with background vocals by Raphael Sadiq it one of the best tracks on the album. "Gangsta Walk" produced by DAZ is unmistakably one of those tracks that just makes you bob your head with its intoxicating bass line and lyrics. I really wish this album was more recognized than it was, it is truly a find if you can get your hands on it. I just bought "R&G (Rhythm & Gangsta): The Masterpiece" and I have to say that I was utterly disappointed with the direction Snoop's music has taken. I would say that one of the pioneers of West Coast Hip Hop has now become more Hip Pop than anything else. "Dead Man Walking" just shows that Snoop still has it, even though the lyrics were probably cut between the mid to late 90's we can see that with the RIGHT producers he can produce an album that is not only true to what Snoop used to represent but is also an album that you would listen to even after spinning it a few time, sort of like "Doggystyle" it sort of timeless in its creation. This kind of music is classic, and I feel that "Dead Man Walking" is one of Snoop's best albums bar none. If you like Snoop or West Coast music then this is a MUST HAVE!

Just one more attempt for Suge Knight & Death Row to eat off Snoop four years after he left their camp and their empire collapsed. This cd has about 3 high quality songs & about 2 or 3 o.k. ones, and a few that were unreleased for a reason (they suck) as well as one song off of "Tha Doggfater" that they remixed. Production is decent, handled by Daz, LT Hutton, Soopafly (3 songs each), Cold 187um did 2 songs, and DJ Pooh andkurt kobain did 1 each. The title was designed to create a "buzz" so the album would sell a little more and they tried to put it out the same day as "Tha Last Meal" to create more "buzz" but Snoop had it pushed back about 6 weeks to avoid confusion that he just recorded this cd and it's material is new (which it ins't). I'm neutral on any Snoop fan who wants to get this cd, the money isn't worth the 3 or 4 quality tracks on here (plus Snoop gets none of it) but if you want it, they are good songs to have in your collection.

The content of this album is probably on a par with 'Tha Doggfather' and the style is very similar. Track 12 is on 'Tha Doggfather', so I don't know what it's doing here. I don't think there was ever any intention to make this a classic album, but it would have made more impact had it been released four or five years ago, when it was recorded. There are some unreleased Snoop tracks on his Death Row greatest hits album which, had they been put on this album instead, would have made it a bit stronger. Neverless, if you enjoyed 'Tha Doggfather', and want more of the same, consider this album. If you only have a few Snoop albums already, don't bother with this, unless you really prefer his earlier style.

I guess you could call me a hardcore Snoop fan. I have all his albums and singles and most of his collaborations( not all of em though as there are too many). But i must admit I thought he had totally fallen off after Da Game is To be Sold Not Told. I was like it cant be. The same man who brought us Nothin but A G Thang, and Doggystyle? Disappearing. But then luckily Snoop reemerged from being knocked out,and fought back. Releasin Top Dogg which got mixed feelings. I thought could it be the return of the g? obviously yes as he commenced to appear on Chronic 2001 and dropping Tha Eastsidaz joint in 99/2000. then the Up in Smoke Tour and The Last Meal was released and I relaxed a littled. I was like Whoa Snoop is almost there in his return. then this dropped... Why some of these songs werent released on Doggfather, his 96 lp, is beyond me. If they were that album wouldve been much better. But it is definitely a return to his old self. Songs like May I and Head Doctor sound like they would be in place on doggystyle. Other noteworthy songs include Hit Rocks, Tommy boy, Change Gone Come., Gangsta Walk. Too Black is one of his best slow flow songs. County blues sports an old Western type of beat from the movies and hits really well. I will Survive could have the best beat on the album by Soopafly. The only lackluster song is My favorite color which is just total wackness. Me and My doggs ends the album perfectly. All in all this is some of Snoops best work. His flow is there, the beats bangin, the lyrics are on point. So by all means pick this up It will not be a waste of money.

This is just a horrible attempt of Suge trying to capitalize off of Snoop. All these tracks are off the recording floor -- tracks that did not make the albums while Snoop was with Death Row.
Suge is a punk, hopefully getting shanked soon. The album cover is a total diss to Snoop (walking down Death Row wearing Blood colors).
Don't buy. Don't support Death Blow.

This album brings back the old Snoop Doggy Dogg we all love. Death Row decided to make an album of some old Snoop tracks, and some tracks from Snoop's classic Smokefest Underground album. This is Snoop's best work since The Doggfather easily, it brings back the way rap used to be, and Dr. Dre doesn't produce anything here. Most of the production is handled by Soopafly, Above The Law rapper Big Hutch, and Daz Dillinger. Also, Swoop G, Daz Dillinger, Kurupt and Raphael Saadiq appear on this album. Snoop uses energy I haven't heard from him since 1999, but this CD could definitely be called Doggystyle Part II. I think it's unfair how there are Snoop groupies here dissing this album just because Snoop isn't getting paid for it. It's the music, not what Suge Knight did. Though I'm sure Snoop didn't want this to come out, as the album is even disrespectfully titled as Dead Man Walking. But you'll get the light-hearted, bright G-Funk sounds on this CD we've missed.
The album starts off with a classic track, "May I". This track has beautiful horns and Snoop puts in an energetic performance. This track wouldn't be out of place on Doggystyle, an amazing Soopafly track, probably recorded some time in 1993. "C-Walkin'" is a decent track from Smokefest with Snoop putting in three good verses and dissing Swoop G and Lil' C-Style in the last verse (though he doesn't say their names), with a decent beat that gets better as the song goes on. "Head Doctor" features Swoop G and Raphael Saadiq for the first single on this 1994 track. The beat is full of life, and Snoop and Swoop sound good together. "Hit Rocks" is another great track, the original version of "Bussin' Rocks" from Top Dogg. But this original is from 1995, and can be heard on the interlude after "Dogg Pound Gangstas" from The Dogg Pound's Dogg Food in the background. The track has the classic Death Row sound to it. "Tommy Boy" is a nice southern track, with Daz rapping on it, about a hustler named Tommy who they hung out with. Classic Dogg Pound material. "Change Will Come" is the favorite of most people, it has Snoop in great form and a cool beat with bass and keyboards in a futuristic type track. "Too Black" is a nice jazzy track with Snoop rapping about heartfelt experiences, and he sounds a little sleepy at times but does nicely over a good beat. "Gangsta Walk" is a posse cut with The Dogg Pound, also known as the great Kurupt and Daz. They all rip this track to shreds, especially Kurupt, and Daz goes crazy at the end. "County Blues" is a blues-like track with Snoop telling jail-stories, it's a nice effect, and the harmonicas are a nice touch. "I Will Survive" is a good remix of the original from Smokefest. It has Snoop doing an all-new verse, and rapping with his friend Technique. They all rap well, the original also had Soopafly rapping on the chorus, but on this new version it has Kurupt. Excellent LBC track, and has added strings in the background. "My Favorite Color" is a pretty good track in the sense it's telling blacks to stick together but the beat is a bit repetitive, all in all a pretty good track though. "Me And My Doggs" is a good track but it's from Doggfather, I have no idea why it's on here again.
I just wish Death Row would've added "Doggystyle" featuring George Clinton, "Street Life" featuring 2Pac, and a couple others ("Don't Do The Crime" would be nice but it disses Death Row). This album is a classic though, it has tracks from Smokefest put out to see the light. I think it's unfair for these reviewers to diss this album because Snoop isn't making money off of it. That's childish and stupid, because they know if it had come out on The Last Meal they would've loved it. Light-hearted G-Funk at its best. Check it out.

When I first got this CD, I was expecting Death Row to put some songs that Doggy Dogg recorded, and weren't quite that good. But I was surprised, I really like this CD. I think I liked the "Death Row Snoop Doggy Dogg At His Best" better, but they didn't release that for some strange reason. Most of the beats on this CD are pretty good, the lyrics on most songs are great, some could be better. It features appearances by Raphael Saadiq, Kurupt, Daz Dillinger, Swoop G and others. My favorite songs are "May I", "Tommy Boy", "Head Doctor", and "Too Black". All great song in my opinion. If you a fan of Snoop Dogg, Dogg Pound, or Dre, I suggest you pick this up. This is not his best, but it is good, good enough to get and listen to.

On a personal experience, I bought this CD, being a relatively big fan of Snoop Dogg at Best Buy, 15 minutes away from my house. In those 15 minutes, I listened to the disc, not even able to get through one song in its entirety, frequently skipping to the next one. I got into town, disgusted that I wasted fifteen dollars on this. I got home and told my friend about the slopped together CD, and passed it on to him, begging him to take it. The next day he agrees with me - it was the worst CD he ever heard.
All of these songs were previously unreleased because Snoop had taste and didn't want to disgust his fans be releasing them. So leave it up to Suge Knight to rip off dedicated Snoop fans. There are no songs worth mentioning on this disc, so do me a favor...DON'T BUY THIS!

Snoop Dogg
I really like Snoop Dogg he know how to really work a crowd. When he sings he makes me sing like nothing but a G thing thats the best song on his C.D. Also he and Doc Dre. make a great group I think Dre didn't think to much when he quit NWA they were great with Easy E and Ice Cube and many more. The music they made was great.

Okay, here's the deal. Listen to this CD, then use it as coaster. Death Row must have thrown some of his worst tracks together to make this album. Snoop was with them for a while, they should have been able to put together a better album. The first few tracks are decent, but after #6 there is NOTHING of listening quality. I bought this CD because and ONLY because it is Snoop. I've got everything he's put out, and even his "The Game Is To Be Sold, Not To Be Told" album off of No Limit is better, and that one was pretty dull. Don't buy unless you are like me, a die hard Snoop fan.

When i first heard that Death Row would be releasing "Dead Man Walkin" i thought right away that it would be nothing more than an album full of wack songs to lower Snoop's image--
But to my own surprise, the album ended up being one of my best purcheses this year! Dead Man Walkin is an album of unreleased Snoop Dogg material from his Death Row era, which is considered his golden era. Ever since Snoop left Death Row for No Limit, alot of his fans we're left with nothing more than Southern Rap and very few West Coast cuts on his albums, which left them wanting more. This album is what those fans want, the old Snoop Dogg. Most of the songs on this album are great, even though some of them aren't so great you can still listen to them.
Its hard to say which album will be better: Dead Man Walkin' or the soon to be released, Tha Last Meal. I for one am getting both, if you really can't have both, just look at the reviews Tha Last Meal will receive when its released and compare them to Dead Man Walkin'.
By the way, all Snoop Dogg fans be sure to check out "The Restless LP" by Xzibit which is set to drop December 12th. Peace Out.
