Blades wiggle too much to control - Review written on December 11, 2007

Actually, my husband and I ended up both buying the same knife. We used the one he bought one time and threw it out because the blades wiggled so much. It was impossible to create nice slices, the meat really looked "butchered", nothing I'd serve to a guest. So, I sent this one back unused.

I hate this knife. I've had it for a year now and every once in a while I figure I'll give it another shot so I pull it out again and am quickly reminded of why I hate it.

First: the two blades are too far apart - I end up with a good fraction of what I'm cutting getting shredded BETWEEN to the two blades.

Second: there's no lock for the trigger so you have to hold it down for the entirety of the slice (and if sawing through a thick roast, you're holding it down for a REALLY long time).

Third: The handle is large and awkward. I don't have small hands but just to be sure, I had my large handed friend try it. He didn't consider it to be particularly comfortable either.

I'm going to see if I can find a better electric knife because, lord knows, a good one could get a lot of use in my kitchen. The "try agains" for this one are over - I'm putting it on Ebay for some other unfortunate soul to use. Clearly there are a lot of positive reviews so I'll sell it to someone who might actually like the thing!
Clean cut at a great price - Review written on December 05, 2007

If you're looking for the cleanest, best cut then you shouldn't be using an electric knife. If you want a fast, good, dependable cut that gets the job done then buy this electric knife. I think the people giving it a poor review because of the quality of cut are being unfair. This knife gives a very good cut and considering the price you get the knife, fork, and a case. It is a good deal!

I've been using this for several months now and it has taken the chore out of manually cutting meat. It does a very good job on all types of meats. I'm very happy and highly recommend it to anyone that is looking to simplify the chore of cutting meat.

A blade with a vibrator attached to it... - Review written on November 19, 2007

I've used good electric knives. This is no "bargain". I don't care how cute the box it came with is, this knife is USELESS. The motor wiggles the blade side to side just as much as it does back and forth. Consequently it is ABSOLUTELY IMPOSSIBLE TO GET A STRAIT CUT OUT OF THIS THING. Bought it. Made one slice. Returning it. Done.
Carving Knife For Crafting - Review written on November 08, 2007

Rating: 3 out of 5

I wanted a craving knife for crafting - to cut different types of foam accurately and quickly. This knife is certainly adequate - however, the handle is just a little to large to hold comfortably in my hand for more than 15-20 minutes. It might be better suited to a man's hand instead. It works great, has been easy to maintain, and that is really my only gripe about it.

I wouldn't want to carve up a steer with this knife, but for everyday use in the kitchen it will do just fine. People who know enough to let the tool do the work at its own pace will probably have this knife for a lifetime. People who insist on forcing things will probably add this knife to all the other gadgets they've ruined.

Storage box, including space for fork is ideal. Have only used it once, but it made cutting a 10 lb. ham into enough servings for ~25 people easy. It would have been a nightmare of mangled meat with an ordinary knife.
Nice and cheap - Review written on March 22, 2007

This is my second purchase, my review is basically of experiences with the first item.

The nice is heavy, has a short cord, heats easily, and does not cut through everything. However, it cuts my roast well, and after getting used to it, becomes easy to use.

The box is not hard to open. The tabs need to be pressed. The plastic is maliable so it does take a concerted efort, but i would not call it hard.

This new one has a very cheap piece of plastic to hold the items in place. I am dissapointred in that.

All in all, for twenty bucks, this is a decent knife for occasional use of standard meats. Hey, i bought this a second time (the first still works well, i just needed a second one).
Maybe mine is defective but it is terrible. - Review written on March 04, 2007

I tried it for the 1st time today cutting a loaf from the local bakery. Had a hard time with the thick crust. After 6 slices, motor started to smell. Everyone else seems to like theirs. Maybe mine's defective? I am sending it back.

I got this for my husband several years ago and he just loves it. It works well, cleans well, and stores very compact. I almost went with a more expensive one but am glad I gave this one a chance because we're very happy with it.

This electric knife works beautifully. Used it on the Thanksgiving turkey, which made the carving task so easy with beautiful clean and thin cuts. I highly recommend this knife, however, with the added shipping costs, don't expect to save anything off what you could buy the knife set for at Target.

Great gift item. Hardly anyone goes to the store to buy one for themselves. It's NOT FOR MEAT CUTTING BONES ETC...
soft material only, breads, turkey, pork roasts, cheeses. It will cut cartilage, but it's not a meat-cutting saw.
For $20 bucks, it's worth it and it's light enough not to cost much for shipping. The box itself has a nice gift presentation as the fork, blades and knife body are enclosed. Make sure you get at least $0.05 (five cents) from the recipient, as it is considered bad luck to give/get a knife for a present. When you get the $0.05 it's considered by the superstition god to be PAYMENT, hence bad luck does not apply. Love this wine I'm drinking!

I received this knife back in November and generally do not write reviews on products but I have to say if you are considering purchasing it JUST DO IT. I have carved up approx. 24 roast beefs and 3 turkeys since having it and it hasn't stalled out yet and doesn't seem as though it will. I hope I am not jinxing myself by writing this but give it a shot the worse that can happen is you will return it for a full refund. GOOD LUCK

I bought this knife for thanksgiving and it made cutting up the turkey a piece of cake. It's come in handy for roasts too. I highly recommend this item.

Terrible ergonomics! It was SO difficult and uncomfortable to keep the trigger engaged and carve at the same time. My hand was ACHING by the time I'd carved the brisket. I've never used a more awkward or uncomfortable appliance!

I replaced my 35+ year old electric knife with this one - wow, I didn't realize how dull it had gotten! I like the case - it was a little tricky to get into the first time, but the old one didn't have one - it's nice to be able to store it all together. Nice and sharp.

This is a great little electric knife set. The knife is powerful, the blades are sharp, and the handy cutting fork and storage box make it a sweet deal. It took me only a minute to figure out the best way to open the plastic storage box, so don't be too discouraged by the other reviewers. I didn't find it all that difficult, and it's so handy to have everything stored neatly together.

If you're looking for a good deal on an electric knife, I recommend the 74250 Hamilton Beach Carve 'N Set.

Cuts very well. On button is not slippery. The fork is useful.

I agree that the box is hard to open, but we use it only 3 times a year, so it is not a big deal.

Having owned a Hamilton Beach electric knife for years I was very disappointed in this one. If your like me and get a little grease on your fingers cutting turkey. You will find your finger slips off the trigger (I got around that by wrapping a paper towel around the unit.)

As someone else mentioned. The box is impossible to open.

Oh the knife cuts fine. But the box and slippery trigger must have been designed by someone who doesn't use either of them in the real world.

Although this knife works as well as I would expect an electric
knife to work, getting into the box is a @#%*&@*!! The large

After having a rechargeable knife that was not very "user friendly", I have enjoyed using this knife. It is ready to go the minute I plug it in. The case is very handy and the price is reasonable.

This is a really nice electric knife carving set. I bought it because it was such a good deal and also because i always find myself saying, "Gee, it would be much easier to cut this up if i had an electric knife." And now i have one. The nice storage box, not mentioned very well in description, makes it very easy to store. It is very annoying with other knives i have seen to have blades in one place, electrical part in another and carving fork somewhere else. this makes it very easy to store in one place. And its from a name you know and love!
