The absolutely best coffee mug in the world - Review written on September 01, 2008

law school students needs coffee almost 24/7. as a law student, this coffee mug is seriously the best thing that has ever happened to me. trying to be financially prudent (buying good coffee at starbucks or other gourmet coffee places really adds up!), i bit the bullet and bought this mug. i thought that all mugs were the same, that they got coffee all over my shirt, and that i had to carry it in my hand to go to school. i was so wrong.

i make coffee in the morning, close the lid, flip it completely upside down to make sure it doesn't leak, and throw it in my bag with my computer and head off to school. the coffee stays warm for a ridiculous long time, but my biggest rave about this coffee mug is that it will not spill no matter what. i get it refilled at coffee shops to and it stays so much longer than those paper cups they give you.

one gripe is that the lid is SO tight that sometimes it's hard to open and you really need to muscle it open. this usually only happens when there's a little coffee left in the mug. i think the vacuum increases when that happens (don't quote me on this - i only study law, not physics) making it hard to open the lid.

if i could give it 10 stars, i would. don't let the ugly handle and/or the not so clean aesthetics dissuade you. this is the best $25 you'll ever spend if you're a coffee or any sort of hot liquid fan.

This is the best travel mug I have ever had. The coffee is still hot 3 hours later. It does leak at all and is very nice to drink out of no little hole. It is like drinking from a regular mug. I thought it might not be enough coffee but it stays so hot it is plenty. A++++ Product

This is a great travel mug... I use this cup Daily, it takes a beating and last forever. I lost my first one after ~ 2 years of use and bought a new one as fast as possible. I have bought this mug for family members and they all love it too... This Cup has a screw top and seals up so you can carry it around upside down or on its side with no leaking, and it keeps your liquids Hot for hours. This cup is a must have for me and my husband. Well worth the money.

This is by far the best travel mug I've ever owned.. It keeps beverages hot for hours, and cold for even more hours.. The design for the lid is awesome. Just like drinking from a mug with no lid... Plus if screwed all the way in you can throw it in a bag or on the truck seat because it will not leak.. I'm thinking of ordering a 2nd one as a spare in case something happens to this one!!

My husband and I each have one of these for the am coffee on the go. It's truly leakproof which allows me to throw it in my bag without worry. My husband uses the mini-carabeener it comes with to attach it to his bag. Icy drinks stay icy even in a hot car while I'm out running errands.

This mug keeps water cold longer than any other mug I've tried. My husband sometimes leaves it in the car for 5-6 hours, and when he returns, there are still slivers of ice floating in the water in the mug! We live in Alabama, and this even happens in the summer.
NISSAN 14oz THERMOS INSULATED TRAVEL (or whatever you choose) MUG! - Review written on July 12, 2008

Rating: 5 out of 5

The thermos/mug is FANTASTIC! It is one of the BEST thermos//mugs I have purchased, and I have purchased many, many, many over my lifetime. The Nissan mug is very well made, and the top is extremely EASY to close and open. I keep the lid closed when I'm busy and can't drink as often or I turn the lid 180 degrees in order to regularly sip my chosen drink. This thermos will keep your drink HOT for a few ( 3 ++++>) hours. Also, I use it for COLD beverages. With some ice, your beverage will stay COLD for a long time. After I have my tea or coffee in the A.M., I use it during the day for drinking water; however, I also use it at night and have it on my nightstand so I will have water to drink during the night. It stays cold ALL night, but I close the lid after drinking. This only takes an extra second so it's no big deal. While driving, close the lid if you are not drinking. This mug could 'fly' across the inside of your car and still not open! YOU CAN'T GO WRONG WITH THIS MUG! IF YOU REALLY NEED ONE, AND NEED ONE THAT IS DURABLE, THEN PURCHASE THIS THERMOS. I'M CERTAIN THAT THIS MUG WILL EASILY FIT INTO ANY STANDARD CUP HOLDER.

I have purchased many plastic and stainless steel mugs. This is the best I have found.

My criteria are simple:

1. Does it keep it hot?....check.
2. Does it "drink" like an unobstructed mug?....check.
3. Does it seal tight when you need it to?....check.
4. Is it easy to clean?....check.
5. Will it hold enough coffee for the commute?....half check.

The Thermos Nissan 14-oz Leak Proof Travel mug is a winner. It performs #1-#4 flawlessly. If it held a couple more ounces it would earn a full check on #5 as well.

Nice feel and good looks to boot...Buy it and enjoy it.

I was looking for a leakproof insulated mug for water after yoga class and decided on the Thermos Nissan 14 oz. Am very happy with my choice. It doesn't leak when knocked over and keeps liquid cold for hours. Haven't tried it with hot items yet but I would guess it would have the same insulating qualities as with cold. Don't tighten the lid too tight though. It will be really hard to unscrew. No need to tighten it that hard anyway.

I as looking for a tough, leak-proof mug with a carabiner, so I can hook it to my work backpack. This mug is it! The mug looks a bit ugly to me, but it is evident that quite a bit of thought went into making it ergonomic. If you need a leak-proof mug, get it!

Perhaps it's because the last travel mug I owned was terrible, but this mug is fantastic in comparison. It keeps coffee reasonably hot (not lukewarm) for two hours after brewing, with only a little heat transferring to the exterior near the top of the mug.

I flipped the mug over a few times without any leakage. It fits under Melita's travel mug coffee maker, and it fits nicely into the car's cupholders.

The only downside, and it's a slight one, is that drinking the mug while holding the handle necessitates an awkward hold. But holding the rubber grip in the middle is just fine.

Pair this up with a Nissan Thermos Nissan Thermos 34-Ounce Stainless-Steel Vacuum Insulated Briefcase Bottle and you are all set. The clip is more useful than you'd think and it really is leak proof. It's a little pricey but the build quality and ability to keep drinks hot/cold definitely makes it worth it.

This is the best travel mug I have ever used. I bought one a few years ago and it mysteriously disappeared, thanks to one of my adult children who came for a visit. You can through this mug in your tote bag and it will not leak.
A must have on the list for commuters who need their beverage of choice in AM.

We had initially purchased 2 of these a couple years ago and continued using our less than ideal other insulated mugs. Finally got fed up with them leaking and ordered 4 more of these mugs. We considered the Oxo mugs but reviews on Amazon turned us off due to numerous comments on inability to keep the top clean. The Nissan mugs are easy to clean and really keep drinks hot or cold. In order to finish a cup of coffee in an hour while watching the morning news, we have to put an ice cube in the coffee to cool it off some! We're also greatly reducing our need for ice from the ice maker when drinking cold drinks as the ice doesn't melt nearly as fast as with our prrevious inferior cups.

It was a pleasant surprise to see that there is a special promotion going on these mugs of 4 for the price of 3!

There's a reason this mug gets so many good reviews: it's awesome.

It seals tight and keeps things amazingly hot for a long time. My only possible complaint is that sometimes the lid is a little hard to unscrew -- the rubber seal is just like that. I'm not sure how else they could get such a reliable seal. As it is, it's mechanically simple, and it works really well. Like another reviewer said, be sure to take the lid apart to clean inside every so often, or it will get pretty funky.

Bottom line, my wife accidentally lost hers, and it was good enough that we bought it again. I'm an engineer, I'm picky about my stuff, and that's the best compliment I can give. Great mug.

I bought this for my wife. She loves it. The mug insulates very well and is easy to clean. It also feels very sturdy. It is leak-proof, as advertised. The only issue we've had is that the cap can get stuck on rare occasions, due to pressure. That said, this is definitely the best travel mug we have ever owned.
Perfect travel mug, keeps coffee HOT and NO spills! - Review written on April 17, 2008

The review title says it all. This is the perfect travel mug. If you have been suffering from spillage and/or cold coffee, you NEED this mug. I use this daily and could not be happier. It keeps the coffee boiling hot for my entire 1.5 hours drive to work. I don't experience any coffee spillage, even though the mug has fallen out of my car's cup holder a few times! Just remember to keep the lid screwed on when not drinking from it.

Update:
If like me, you accidentally damaged the silicone O ring that seals the mug, these are a perfect replacement: 228 Red Silicone O-Ring 70A Duro, 2 1/4"ID x 2 1/2" OD x 1/8"W (Pack of 5)

This is the second Leak Proof mug I have owned (my daughter absconded with the first one after I had it for 6 years). It really doesn't leak if the lid is on tight. It keeps liquids warm for hours, and it keeps working even if you run it through the dishwasher (not recommended by the manufacturer). Just be careful if the liquids are scalding hot and you tighten the lid down. As it cools a bit, it will form a vacuum seal and can be hard to open. It might seem pricey, but it's the best travel mug you will ever own, and the last you will ever need.

All other travel mugs I tried only frustrated me b/c they would leak and spill everytime I took a sip. This one does not leak at all. And the stainless steel interior keeps liquid warm for hours and hours. My friend gave this to me years ago and I lost it during my move. So i just had to buy a new one. It's excellent.

I've bought many coffee mugs, but I always go back to nissan (thermos). they make a really solid, rugged mug. I bought this one because I wanted something that I could carry around without spilling, especially during the rush-hour commute on mass transit. I've used this now for 2+ months and I'm very pleased. it's a definite buy. The lid is tight fitting and I've had no problems, no spills. the mug holds heat fairly well, at least 30-40 mins. I'd like a slightly larger sized mug, for foam latte's, but it's not a big deal.
my only grief is that stupid carabinder - I use it but I'm not terribly impressed.

I had one of these mugs for 5 years, and lost it at work recently (I actually went floor by floor in my building looking for it with no luck). I'm buying another one now. Nothing works as well.

Years ago I would take this on 20-30 minute late fall motorcycle commutes to class in Buffalo NY, sitting in the mesh outer pocket of my backpack. These were mornings with temps as low as the low 40s, even the upper 30s (once). When I'd get to class the outside of the mug would feel cold, and the coffee inside would be piping hot. It insulates that well and it's that leakproof. I never lost a drop of coffee when the lid was closed. (I'd hold a full mug upside down over my head when people would ask me if the mug was leakproof.)

The screwtop design allows lefties and righties both to hold the mug comfortably, is in two pieces with an air pocket in between, and serves as a perfect vent for sipping (no little pinhole that clogs with a drop of coffee, then clears in the middle of a sip resulting in a sip turning into a frantic 'gulp-and-tip'.

The inner liner is all stainless, and is incredibly isolated from the environment. even the black plastic removable bottom has an air pocket so there's less conduction from the surface the mug is sitting on.

I actually tested this mug with a thermometer and boiling water against a chintzy grocery store travel mug we have. (yeah, I know. I'm a geek.) after an hour, this mug kept the water several degrees hotter. that difference just grew and grew over time. In the real world, that means on days you get to work and are handed a hundred things to do, and don't get time to take more than a sip of your coffee for hours (and we've all had days like that), it will STILL BE HOT when you get to it. I wish everything worked as well as this mug.

What I really love about this mug is that it really does not leak and it keeps my drinks hot for a long time. I like it so well, I bought a second one for those days when I forget my mug at work. I also use the clip to hook the mug onto my purse strap when I am getting out of the car with my hands full.

Best mug for holding heat & thermos tight when the top is screwed down. I don't have to give up a hand on the way out the door, I can carry it to the car laying down on the day's paperwork or in a bag without worrying about leaks.

Piping hot, leak proof, and no "coffee nose" - Review written on March 02, 2008

I've been using this mug daily for five years and I love it now as much as the day I bought it. It's sporting a few war wounds, including small dents and paint splotches, but that only makes it more special to me. It truly it leak proof. As long as you do not overfill it, you can tip it upside down, shake it, and not one drop will spill out. Hot drinks stay hot for hours, and cold drinks stay cold for just as long. On hot summer nights, I put ice water next to my bed and there is still ice in the mug the next morning. The water tastes cool and clean, too. That is, no coffee aftertaste.

Some reviewers have complained that this mug is hard to clean. I usually just rinse with hot water, but once a week I wrap a soapy Handi-wipe cloth around the handle of a wooden spoon, and that takes away any oily coffee bean residue. I also remove the white rubber gasket from the lid at the same time and wipe it down with a damp paper towel.

I love to attach this mug to my backpack with the carabiner and, at every false mountain peak on whatever hill I am climbing, I'll sigh heavily and take a long sip of a hot or cold drink. Or I can literally toss the mug upside down in my huge tote bag, right next to my beloved laptop, and not worry about any leakage.

No dribbles down the front of my shirt, no "coffee nose," and I find I drink much less coffee because one mug lasts several hours, which means I sip, rather than gulp. Less coffee, fewer trips to the bathroom, fewer jitters. It's all good. I cannot recommend this mug highly enough, and I think the price is just right.
