This group tours in the Pacific Nortwest, and I've had the chance to see them a couple of times... they are so much fun! Very campy and a little over the top and always fun, and the music is just great. This CD is a great sampling of their talent and their enthusiam for the music, and it's right up there with my favorites, which do include Pink Martini. But to that moron who said in his review that they don't compare to Pink Martini... phhffttt! That's like comparing the B-52s to U2... No, they aren't quite the same class of musicians and vocalists, but what they lack in style they more than make up in heart and just plain fun.

As real white-bread, East Coast type of woman of a certain age who does not understand a word of Spanish and wouldn't think of dancing in public...........I have to say that this CD is my all-time favorite. Whoa! It's music I just stumbled upon and took a chance ordering. I love, love, love it even though I do wonder a bit about that Pepe. And, the album art is terrific. I wish I could buy some of the inside prints.

Just load this in your car CD player and hit the open road.

I like Pepe's voice. and the girls voices are great too!
This CD's rhythm focuses more on cha-cha and salsa, and not as alternative like Pink Martini.
Yes i am a HUGE FAN of Pink Martini, and myself have gotten some friends to fall in love for Pink Martini.

If you like ChaCha, Salsa, this would be a good pick :)
I particularly loved the 3rd track "Cuentame Que Te Paso" , it really get me moving :)
NOT COMPARABLE TO PINK MARTINI - Review written on April 22, 2005

I purchased this CD based on the reviews - "if you like Pink Martini..." I love Pink Martini, I love Latin music, but I dont love this. The instumentals are great, if only you could separate the ridiculously stupid lyrics. One review compared Pepe to Ricky Ricardo - true but more aptly a bad attempt at satire, reminiscent of an SNL sketch. I only wish I purchased this at Tower or Virgin so I could return it - I cant think of anyone to give it to. It's so bad I'd be embassased to be associated with it. To each their own. People are entitled to their opinion and to love this CD. However, dont compare it to another band knowing that people will rely on your comments.

What a great album! You can't help but smile while you listen to this CD. The songs have such great beats and are just plain FUN to listen to. Pepe belts out the melodies with style and strength. And the "Bottle Blondes" - I can't get enough of their singing! (Actually some of the harmonies remind me of some of the great old Matt Bianco songs with Basia). The instrumental performances are top notch too!
There is no way you can listen to this album without moving to the rhythms...you have to tap your foot, move your head, shoulders or hips or something....I'm eagerly waiting for their second album Late Night Bob to come out this fall!

I noticed this CD because of the name of the band and the suggestions from other Amazon customers. I must say it is one of my favorite CD's! The songs have great rythmn and the energy of the artists translate beautifully even though I don't speak Spanish or Japanese(one of my favorite songs!)Everyone-aged from 17 to 83 that has heard this CD, will request me to play it when they visit. Pepe's voice reminds me so much of Ricky Ricardo, that I'm surprised the album isn't called "Latenight Lucy"!!
Can't wait for the release of their next CD.

After hearing La Soledad on the Pink Martini CD, I had to find out more about the amazing voice of Pepe Raphael. What a bonus to find out this man has a wacky sense of humor! It is not typical to find a performer who can sing a delicately beautiful song like La Vals de Tomas, then turn around and shake his booty a la Boom Boom. Everything he sings is exquisitely perfect for the style of the song. This CD is on permanent rotation in our car. The opening song, Rhumba de 5 Kilos, simply has it all! My 6 year old son acts out all the voices and rhythms - he has never reacted to music this way. The whole CD is a treat I never get tired of, and I look forward to the next one..........

No shortcuts taken on this one, everything has been tweaked to perfection. Great latin-infused & swinging songs, arranged & delivered by solid musicians & impassioned singers, with style and contagious energy, joy and humor. Even the package art and liner notes are full of color & fun. It doesn't get better than this.
Pepe & the Bottle Blondes are to release "Latenight Bob" this Fall 2004, I would buy it hands down & sound unheard.

This remains one of the best CDs in my collection. Every time I bust it out at a party, someone will want to know what/who we're listening to. It is the killer combo of great melodies, playful lyrics, and style to spare.

This is one of those albums where every single song is fantastic. The overall cadence of the album is perfect for making dinner! - starts of with great boogie tunes and then moves to more mellow numbers. Wish is I could read Spanish better because what lyrics I can make out are hilarious. It's the best music buy I made last year and it's my two year old's favorite album. Can't say enough about this music except I'm waiting for the next album!

What a trip! Mad, bizarre, outrageous paired up with melodic, rhythmical, and enchanting. I'd classify their style as mellifluous hodgepodge. Bold improvisations on some familiar tunes and themes, plus plenty of inventive and original variations. Incredibly catchy, swirling, jiving music and lyrics. Nothing is held back, totally unrestrained. The CD starts out with terribly energetic tracks, mellows out a bit in the middle, and wraps it all effortlessly at the end. "Latenight Betty" is nothing short of a fiery, feisty, cathartic listening experience.

Cacophonous, vigorous and varied (latin smorgasboard, jazz, and a bit of mongrel), but never boring. Highly recommended for anyone who likes offbeat latin music.

This is as everybody else said a fun CD.
Never heard of the guy before, and I heared it in the CD store by accident, and immediatly liked it.
What's not to like? silly words, catchy music that force you to dance the cha cha even if you don't know how.

Put it on when you are feeling down and it will make you smile.

The first time i heard to this cd i think it was just funny, but it grows in you once you listen it again and again. The lyrics, sound effects and rythms are irreverent and funny...although there are many words that are supposed to be in...spanish??? Specially to the last song (#10) i know spanish and didn't understood a word, though the female singer has a very melodic voice... Good for you Pepe & the Bottle Blondes!!!
Fantastic beats, quirky lirics and toe tapping rythem! - Review written on February 18, 2002

Latenight Betty is awsome. Some of my old favorite songs with a new twist. This CD combines old latin rythems (Peres Prado etc.)with a modern "boza nova like" energy. Great tunes to lift your spirits and make you take a spin around the kitchen floor with your sweety on any given day. Quirky lirics are the best and multi-language combo in some of the songs make this CD interesting. The two instumentals at the end of the CD are classics that always please the ear.

This is a terrific album. I buy new CDs pretty often, but most are good for a short time and then are of little interest. This one, though, is a favorite of my wife and I and is in frequent use. A real pleasure, fun and accessible, that I expect we will play for years.

Thanks very much, Pepe - more!

Aight, if you are looking for interesting and fun music with a distictive Latin flair then this is the one to get. The music has the ability to make any room start jumping. If you love to dance to Latin music you are in heaven. But beyond that the song selection shows the diversity and breadth of the musicians. One of the most fun (there's that word again)songs is Number 4. It sounds like an old-style swing song, except for the fact that the lead vocalist is singing in Chinese...really really cool. There is also a really cool version of Sing Sing Sing. My personal favorite is Rumba de 5 Kilos. If you enjoyed the music of Pink Martini then this cd is a must buy, the same quality but much more danceable. And if you really like this cd then you should pick up Sympathique by Pink Martini (another group put together with Pepe Raphael).

I grew up a third-generation Spanish American and was thusly exposed to a lot of different types of Latin music and I love it all. Lately though, I've been looking for something a little off the mark, something different. I wanted an album that was good for a big party, but nice enough to play at a dinner party.

I somehow stumbled upon Pepe & the Bottle Blondes and it hasn't left my CD player since the day I bought it!

The depth of Pepe's voice and those of the Bottle Blondes as well is astounding and moving in a way, especially on "El Váls De Tomás" (my favorite song on the album.)

If you're a big fan of salsa, latin jazz, anything with a good beat, you'll really appreciate this album. I can't really define any one word to describe their sound, all I can say is that they make beautiful music. I can't wait to hear more from Pepe & the Bottle Blondes.

The CD cover was interestingly different - the artists'/group's name more so...after listening on headphones at the local music store I just had to buy it,,,

HEY! Fantastic, smooth, happy, get up and dance, I can't stop listenin' and dancin', latin and more, it's got a rainbow of elements (swing to tango) (latino to a distinctly yiddisha flavor, the vocal harmonies resonant with uncanny desire,,,

BUY 2 and give one to a friend.

If you like Boleros and Rhumbas and/or Swing and Salsa (with a twist) Go get it! You will put a lot of miles on this one! It is great sounding and very fun to listen to. I highly recommended.

Picked this album up because I liked the cover. It's great -- upbeat and funny. I've been playing it repeatedly over the last few days. It's one of the new, musically original albums to come out recently, part of the renaissance of music with style. Oldish sounds and new twists, doesn't take itself too seriously.

Our five year old son is totally in love with this CD. We have exposed him to a huge variety of music beginning in the womb, AND we have never seen a reaction this dramatic!!

Mom,Mom, he tells me when we get in the car, "play the spanish singing guy." "Mom, Mom, tell the guy I love him!", he screams as he dances in his car seat.

Later we come into the house where he greets his father and tells him, "Dad, He's better than anyone of our music!"

When music touches our children this profoundly, it must be truly exceptional. Bravo!!
