I feel the Pouring Shield will be an extremely useful accessory. But, because of the lightness of construction, necessary for its purpose,it may need replacing periodically due to wear and tear.

I love kitchen-aid products. This in particular helps with spilling and pouring. I strongly recommend getting one of these for your mixer, as a matter of fact, the original one that came with my mixer got melted on the stove and I couldn't live without another one

I have a standing mixer that does not have the option of flipping up to add new ingredients, so I thought this would be nice to add like flour down the shoot, but it just doesn't work.

First, the piece does not clip tightly to the bowl causing it to slip around a bit around the top edge of the bowl. Second, the shoot is not at a sharp enough angle for the ingredients (like dry flour) to slide down the shoot, leaving you shaking the already flimsily attached pouring shield to get the flour into the bowl. Third, if you give up on pouring dry ingredients down the shoot, this has made the area that you can dump things into the bowl in narrower because it's shielding the top edges of the bowl. I have tried this several times now, and now I never use it.

They sent the item fairly fast, however they sent the wrong one. I had a hard time getting ahold of their customer service. Once I did, they sent me a label to ship it to them to exchange it. I never received the original item I ordered and they finally issued me a refund.

I received a incorrect Pouring Shield, KitchenAid #KPS@CL, than what I needed for my wife's KitchenAid stand mixer Model #KV25GOX. Amazon lists the shield as fitting a KitchenAid 5qt stand mixer. KitchenAid makes a lot of 5qt stand mixers and not anywhere does Amazon.com ask or have a place requesting what your model is so that the correct item can be shipped.
The item I received was purchased through Amazon.com but sent from Polsteins Home & Beyond and my request for imfomation to return item have been through Amazon.com's forwarded email system which I have sent 2 request and have heard nothing.
I wouldn't order this item through Amazon.com again.

This handy device keeps the flour from spraying all over your kitchen when you add it to the moving mixer. My only complaint is that it can be difficult to pour large quantities of an ingredient in at a time. But overall, a good product.

You should definetly buy one of these to go along with your mixer if it doesnt come included. Worth the money dont have to worry about any spills. I was expecting it to attach to the side of the bowl and it doesnt but still works good.

I made a mistake on the size - should have ordered one for 6 qt so I wrote to ask if I could exchange it more than a month ago but have not yet heard from them. Meanwhile, I have given up their response and am thinking of ordering a 4/5 qt. bowl which I really don't need.

Not designed correctly. - Review written on October 11, 2006

I wanted a shield to allow easy addition of ingredients to the mixer, but this one is not designed well enough to facilitate it.

The shield comes into two parts, held together by the rim of the bowl and two small tabs. It easily falls apart when removing and is hard to get back on without taking the whole thing off and putting it back.

The funnel portion is not long enough to allow ingredients to be poured. Often, the component added spills or gets on the mixer.

The rim of the bowl is too big as well. With the whisk attachment on the mixer, you cannot swing the top without hitting the rim. You have to perform a complex manuever of lifting the top a small amount, and then rotating the shield so that the pouring section aligns with where the whisk is stopped.

This product needs a serious redesign to serve its function.

This pouring shield works great to contain splatters. In parrticular, I appreciate having it for whipping cream or large batches of batter. It is also helpful to add ingredients using the 'pouring section' of the shield when the mixer is on or when the bowl is in the 'up' position.
Useful, depending on what you use your mixer for... - Review written on April 25, 2006

The shield does come in handy, but only sometimes. I don't use it everytime I use my mixer. For a lot of things it is useless. But it works perfectly for gradually adding dry ingrediants. It is great for gradually adding flour to make a dough.
The shield is also GREAT for when kids want to help mix ingrediants, keeps little fingers far from danger.
The shield splits in two parts, which tend to fall apart easily. It was done this way, so you can lift up half of the shield and scrape around the edges of the bowl, without having to completely remove it. It is a great idea, but it makes the shield very flimsy, and falls apart easily.
It is not a must-have for your mixer, but if you makes lots of doughs etc, it is well worth the $15.

Worth it when little ones help add ingredients - Review written on November 08, 2005

I got the shield b/c I had a little extra money after credits and specials were applied to my mixer price.

I find it very helpful when my 3 yr old wants to help me add ingredients. The ingredients don't have to be added perfectly and they still manage to make it into the bowl. But when I make something with dry ingredients being added to wet ones, the dry ones still poof out. I am a little disappointed about that b/c I still have to wipe down the mixer when I'm done.

All in all, tho, I think this is worth having, but I wouldn't go out of my way to get it, you can have a successful mixing experience without it. :-)

The pouring shield came free with my KitchenAid mixer, and I use it very often to get flour and other ingredients easily into my mixer without spills. Without this attachment, using the mixer would be much messier. On the other hand, it is a hassle to take the pouring shield off every time I want to scrape the bowl down and $20 is expensive for such a simple attachment. All in all, though, the pouring shield is very good.

This `splash guard' has been appropriately named "Pouring Shield." Flour will still pouf up a bit when added while the beater is running but the mess is greatly lessened and kept off of you. I wouldn't run the mixer without it. You'll have to toss a bit of flour onto your face yourself so your family will know all the `hard work' you've been up to in the kitchen.
The pouring shield provides an easy way to add ingredients. What a bonus. When incorporating dry ingredients into a mixture, I put about a cup or so at a time on the ramp of the pouring shield and then 'dump' it in. The pouring shild is hinged to make it easy to pour the ingredients in the mixer this way.
Clean up is very simple. Most of the time it just needs a good wipe or rinse it well under running water and then wipe.
I store mine right in it's place on the rim of the bowl set upon the mixer when my KitchenAid is not in use.
This accessory is often included free as a 'bonus' item with the purchase of a KitchenAid mixer. If you haven't purchased the mixer yet, check back frequently to the mixer page and wait till it's offered free with purchase.

I can't actually say how well this product works, because I didn't get to use it. The information above states that it fits all 4 1/2 and 5 quart KitchenAid stand mixers, but in fact it does not, and this is Amazon's mistake, not KitchenAid's When I recieved it, I found that it is much too small for my KV25GOX model mixer. When I looked at the box to see if I had made a mistake, I found that it clearly states that this accessory fits all 4 1/2 and 5 quart stand mixers *except* model KV. So if you're still interested in this product, make sure it's compatible before you spend your money.

The fit isn't perfect, and things can still get out on occaision. The biggest benefit for me is the chute. I can measure each ingredient and dump it into a 1C cup and let my little girl pour each ingredient into the chute. I'd rather not hand her a teaspoon full of some spice and have it go all over the counter, but with an oversized thing to pour from and the chute to pour into even her 2 1/2 year old motor skills can get a real feeling of being helpful.

Don't waste your money. The pour shield is engineered with openings along the edge which allow the flour or liquids to still gush all over. (I got one for my 4 1/2 qt. Kitchen Aid stand mixer)
Good Idea, but not worth the trouble - Review written on April 04, 2003

I found this up on the shelf over the refrigerator yesterday, took me a while to remember what it was. It was up there with the 50 pounds of paprika I couldn't live without. I love my KA mixer, I think maybe I used this thing twice. It does work if you remember to drag out the step stool and deal with all the dross on top of the fridge, but I really think it's not worth the effort. I never had any trouble using it, but if you are like me, the counter gets flour on it anyway when you do the final kneading, so what's the problem. It's just one more thing to wash. Other than dry ingrediants, I can't think of what else you would use it for. It's cute, I'm trying to teach the cats to jump through it until I put it back up in the cupboard...that means I'd have to clear off the step stool again and climb up...maybe it belongs down cellar, that's easier. Not an essential item in my kitchen.
Handy but not exactly a Must Have - Review written on February 05, 2003

Got this item for my mixer but it doesn't work as well as I thought it would. Of course, as my husband says, I can't boil water without destroying the kitchen so it could be just me...

I like that the shield comes apart in two pieces; I can store it inside the mixer bowls when not in use, I sometimes forget the shield before I start but can hook it on without having to remove the beater and, in two pieces, it fits in the dishwasher better for clean up.

However, it is tricky to hook it together if don't put it on 'before' you start mixing -- taking it off is a breeze though. For me, the opening is still on the narrow side so that I usually spill down at least one side (especially flour) although not nearly as much as before. And often you have to push the ingredients off the spout into the bowl with a spatula.

If you are a super messy cook like me then this item may be good for you. If you're not then I wouldn't bother with it at all.

Our newly purchased pouring shield does not fit our 1973 K45 model mixer & bowl. It's slightly too small to fit over the rim. Our bowl is the original one that came with the mixer. I've contacted Kicthen Aid about this and am awaiting their response.
